‘GREAT TO SEE’ 👏 Kyrie Irving winning another title could impact how he’s viewed! – Greeny | Get Up

we are back on get up our next game is called what if here we go Austin what if Jason Tatum wins the championship this here oh I think he goes into Paris with his chest out we’re talking about the face of the NBA uh to be this young have this many Conference Finals appearances going back to the uh to the finals for a second time I think if he wins this year he can now be the guy when we talk about new faces of the league Tatum can now walk around saying that that’s a really good point we’ve talked a lot about what’s at stake if he loses there is a lot at stake for him if he wins wins Drea what if Anthony Edwards wins the title this year we’re already talking about Anthony Edwards as possibly the face of the league if he wins it he is immediately in that conversation even more so I think than Jason Tatum would be if Tatum won it and Anthony Edwards is ahead of schedule if he wins it this year it is only the beginning I see him winning multiple championships in his career and then here’s an interesting one Allan what if Kyrie Irving wins a championship this year and plays great and does it of course without LeBron James well this is what happens LeBron James looks at Rob pink and goes I told you we should have traded for him I think Shawn marks in Brooklyn is hate watching the series going where was this guy where was the guy we needed this yeah Kevin Durant the same thing but it just shows you though that he might become you could put him in the conversation is one of the greatest 1B players in NBA history if he can win another title next to lop and and the comment that you had there below your the on the screen there I think is interesting too it’s more notable that he wins one without Durant than he wins one without LeBron well I mean it’s all interesting it all goes into it Kyrie is such a complicated person to talk about like we spent this morning Draymond sort of brought it up in an indirect way we’ve talked a lot about Legacy and how things happen you’ve known Kyrie forever right you I you and he were a Duke at similar times and you you played international basketball together he is his is one of the most complicated legacies of players to talk about but it is also a script still being written he’s only 32 years old what are you seeing in him right now what it’s a great question on the screen what is at state these weeks this is huge it would cement him I think when we talk about first off he should already be a Hall of Famer I think we all know that he’s first B Hall of Famer he’s Hall of um and in my opinion he should have been a top 75 guy the reason he wasn’t is because all things that aren’t related to basketball it’s the stuff that happen outside of it the distractions the time off that he took in Brooklyn um you know listen Kyrie’s a free spirit he’s actually a great guy but he’s a free spirit and with that comes his emotions and feelings out raw and sometimes people can take that for what it is regardless of which when we talk about his basketball Legacy uh we saw him go to Boston and want to be a 1A guy and it didn’t really work out as well wasn’t fit at that time to be the leader of that team it got weird when he got hurt and they played like really well without him um he’s found himself in a situation where I think it is similar to when he played with LeBron he’s accepted being that b guy uh it’s a great Point by Allan he is probably going to go down as one of the best 1B guys of all time in terms from a talent standpoint Kyrie’s every favorite player’s favorite player to to go win a championship with this team I mean my my God man we we Kyrie would be looked at totally different this is a guy who just got left off a Team USA when we all know he should probably be on that team yeah but he’s not on that team for reasons outside of basketball right they questioned his leadership they questioned all that I’m seeing Kyrie play defense I’m seeing him have good energy good High Spirit I’ve never seen this from Kyrie uh so this is this has been uh great to see well this came up and it’s a great job by our staff because the they they put this idea you know out there yesterday as we were going through ideas for today’s show and it made me think about this I don’t know that this any player in the NBA who’s still playing right now whose Legacy could be more impacted by winning a championship this year I mean Jason Tatum has a lot more chances for all the talk we’ve had about him Anthony Edwards is just getting started even Luca Kyrie Irving is one much of his story has already been written winning a championship at this stage of his career if he plays great and he is a huge part of doing it I think it goes I think it has a lot it makes a lot of impact on the way we view him now and probably forever we seeing him as a basketball player again and a great one at that and he has had special moments and it’s that reminder of that talent that we really have fallen in love with before all the things that you’re talking about Austin which is all the off the court stuff and the things that happened in Brooklyn that turned a lot of people off but when you watch him and it looks like honestly and you know him well it looks like he found a place in Dallas with Nico Harrison with Jason kid as his coach where he’s just happy again playing basketball and next to Luca he has found found sort of that comfort zone that place where it’s all about basketball and he loves it again what was what the start of that last thing is that you just said with Luka next to Luca like we’ve you you just mentioned Kyrie being a great 1B player so as far as his basketball Legacy goes sure maybe it’s a reminder for people that got distracted by some of his off thec court stuff but this is who Kyrie Irving is wasn’t with Kevin Durant it’s a reminder of of who he is but is still there like to me it doesn’t change his legacy because still playing alongside Luca Luka couldn’t do it if he didn’t have a guy like Kyrie with him they’ve been they’ve been looking for someone in Dallas for years who could fit next to him and make it work like this but I don’t think that changes Kyrie’s Legacy no but this is we haven’t seen him be a part of a winning culture like just in terms of him bringing guys in early to practice he’s doing stuff that like I I’m hearing like the leadership aspect I have never seen I haven’t heard of this from Kyrie since like Cleveland stuff and even then he didn’t have that opportunity just due to LeBron James being in the locker room so I agree with Drea in terms of like for me who this guy is was pretty much cemented you add a championship yes that takes you over the top but I do think that he is a fact and a contributor in this run that we’re just not talking about enough period right the the dimensions that he’s added to his game the way he’s defending it has not been a part of the conversation the conversation has been about Lucas CF and how he looks and the additions that this team has made at the trade deadline so some kind of way it has gone a little bit under the radar can can I disagree a little bit with what you’re saying I’ll push back this way I think if you said the name you just just say the name Kyrie Irving to most people their first response is not about basketball they don’t talk about his game they talk about all the other things and that’s what I mean he can bring it all back for whatever reason I think when you say car to me I think basketball first person I I I think a lot of people based on all the things that happened in Brooklyn a lot of things that happened away from the court a lot of people remember a lot of that stuff more than they remember the shot it’s changed this year it’s changed this year he is changing I’m saying and he takes it over the top Legacy thing look I mean LeBron James won his championships with Dwayne Wade with Anthony Davis and with this guy I mean he’s that literally that level of good you made an interesting point as well why it didn’t work out in Brooklyn is another thing that we’re going to have to dive into at some point if he wins a championship with Luca so we’ll see [Music]

On Get Up, Austin Rivers, Alan Hahn, Monica McNutt and Andraya Carter join Mike Greenberg to discuss what winning a championship with Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks would mean for Kyrie Irving’s legacy.

  1. ESPN KEEP KYRIE OUT Y'ALL F MOUTH. IF U HAVE TO SPEAK ABOUT ANYTHING OTHER THAN BASKETBALL WITH KYRIE DON'T SPEAK AT ALL. WE DONT WANNA HEAR YOUR YOUNGER VERSION BRAIN SPEAK IN CURRENT 2024 WE DONT SPEAK YOUR LANGUAGES IN DALLAS TEXAS, A STATE OF ITS OWN. LETS GO MAVS.

  2. If he’s starts winning again it’s like when Kobe swapped jersey numbers like a second chapter in his career

  3. Compared to Anthony Edwards, this Jayson Tatum guy has little to ZERO chance of being the face of the NBA. I'm a 5 minutes away from S. Philadelphia native and resident. I'm a home team fan in all 4 major sports so I don't have a dog in this BUT in terms of, " I barely have heard of this guy, " TATUM REAKS OF THAT, we while Anthony Edwards.. I'VE HEARD OF.

Now I'm a hard 🏀 guy so yes I KNOW who TATUM is but I ALSO know ANT MAN, his personality, style of play and the, " oh yeah I've heard of that guy," factor is ALL in Ant-Man favor. As a matter of fact, IF TATUM & Celtics WIN THE 🏆 I'd STILL SAY it'll be ANT-MAN OVER Tatum for the league face title. THIS ISN'T an evaluation of who I think is the better player. That's NOT the topic. It's really who's MORE or can be MORE recognized, marketable and exciting. Eye ball 🧲 FOR CASUAL OR EVEN NON FANS. That's ALL ANT-MAN.

  4. For Kyrie to do all the things he has and what he did to Brooklyn and then say it’s only espn who hates them is ridiculous. It’s just Kyrie fans in these comments, I’d say liking him and hating him is pretty close to 50/50 or 60/40. African Americans can be misled about a lot. Like getting paid a ton but still not wanting to work lol

  5. Worst take I've seen in awhile from that guy. When people think of Kyrie we think of the most skilled basketball player ever first, second and third. And then his 2015 injury (the big what if).

  6. Dude in the middle is bringing up old stuff that everyone has moved on from. All we're trying to talk about now is Twolves vs Mavs and Celtics vs Pacers. Leave that old stuff at home! 🏀🐺🎉

  7. These guys despise Aaron Rodgers and Kyrie because of their stance on the vac. Big Corp always try to destroy ones reputation if they go against the grain.

  8. Greeny said it correctly though, the average person outside of basketball fans, only know Kyrie for his off the court complications and some on court. But if they win and he even remotely plays like he did when he won the title with the CAVS, it changes his overall appearance within the basketball fandom and outside. And to be clear, no one has ever questioned his skills, its been his commitment to the sport as a dependable player. And this as someone said would pull him out of the shadows of LBJ and KD as well.

  9. Honestly whether the Timberwolves and Ant wins his first ring, or if the Mavs and kyrie and Luka win a ring together and kyrie gets his second, as long as the west wins im satisfied bruh

  10. Here's the media again spinning their bs narratives! We the fans have always loved Kyrie! Greeny, and Stephen A shut up!!!

  11. You guys are the only ones that look at Kyrie like that. The fans think that he's one of the greatest ball handlers and basketball players of all time. Simple as that.

  12. I hate how they say “off court issues” as if he had issues. It was always the media fault. He didn’t get a vaccine and they treated him like a criminal.

  13. Dallas matches up better than any other team Minnesota has played so far. They could do it. A lot more has to go right for the Mavs to win than Minnesota though, but I believe in them

  14. Y’all are clowns for hating on Kyrie and I hope the Mavs make you hold the L by going to the finals this year and winning it all

  15. lol all espn golden goose’s bit the dust. Now they’re trying to milk Kyrie. Speaking of milk why give Whitey no love

  16. I dont know why they are saying 1B As If He just A SideKick To Everyone He Plays With.. He Literally The Most Skilled Player In NBA History And That Has Now Grown Into Leadership And Defense Which is Always Had Just Didnt Get Notice Til This Year

  17. It wouldn't change anything. He was a Robin then and if he wins he's a Robin now. That only proves the same narrative that's always existed.
