“LA infatuated with JJ Redick’s potential” – Shams Charania updates on Lakers head coaching search

they put Katie in there just to get what it was worth it for the Anthony Edwards part I’m not going to lie to you congratulations to I don’t know who I’m proud of us I’m proud of us proud of us we are growing as a show this is run it back FanDuel TV sham Shania Stadium Insider my name is Michelle Beetle we have Chandler Parsons and Lou Will and we’ve got a an interesting way to start a show today with Scoops right off the top of the show some sham uh Lakers coaching search sir the Lakers have formerly begun their coaching interview process I’m told they’ve had meetings with JJ reick James brao Sam Cassell those are the three leading targets right now obviously we’ve talked about JJ reick at length he’s LeBron James podcast partner but the Lakers as an organization they’ve have had an infatuation with him as a potential candidate what he could what his future could look like as head coach uh in the NBA really you think about Pat Riley making the jump from media to coaching was it three decades ago two decades ago like they view JJ reic potentially similar to that as Pat Riley this has been perceived say that again obviously as a LeBron James hire but in talking to people around the Lakers um around the locker room it should be more of an Anthony Davis hire that’s someone who obviously at 31 years old he’s in the prime of his career he’s someone that’s going to have a Runway here as a Laker longer than LeBron James and so um how do they handle the coaching hire how do they decide you know do we do we take Anthony Davis’s input where does that stand I am told this is interesting uh Anthony Davis and James bgo have developed a recent Rapport they they kind of had a little bit of time in New Orleans in the summer when ad was drafted with the Pelin in 2012 um but right now the Lakers uh they’ve begun their formal process I think this will still be a methodical process I love everything about it that little last part you told me makes me think it’s him it feels better than well the James B I mean the the again if we’re going to higher for Anthony Davis because he’s going to be there longer than LeBron who knows what’s happened with bronnie and the whole draft is he going to follow him it seems like this is that Anthony Davis hires the fact that he’s now developed a relationship and trust with BGA I feel like automatically would give him the nudge there I love Sam casselle I think he’s I think he’s a great coach so for that reason you don’t want him to have the job I yeah so I don’t want him to take this job no but I just feel like if if they were G to if they’re going to really take care of Anthony Davis and what he wants and needs and they’re already talking and he’s not doing that with JJ and Sam Cassell it just seems writing’s on the wall the JJ reic thing won’t die it is everywhere it is it it’s like those three names are talked about but then it’s the picture on the article is JJ reic do you like to fit with JJ and La how we feeling about that no I I don’t like I said I I think he and Sam Cassel should steer clear at his job you know if they want to have careers in the NBA as head coaches this isn’t the job for you to start your career and want to grow and learn and become a better Coach you got to win now you got to make an immediate impact when you’re the Los Angeles Lakers head coach and it’s going to be a difficult thing they’re going to come into that job being being criticized before they even step out on the sideline to coach this basketball team the minute one of these guys are going to get higher there’s going to be criticism from that moment on and so for those reasons I don’t want these two former players personally to to for this it is the Lakers they’re always going to be in the thick of things to sign free agents to get better they’re always going to want guys to guys are going to always want to go there so what if what if it happens and he has a really good first we just watched this movie with with Darwin ham Darwin ham didn’t do a bad job he was he took them guys to the Western Conference Finals his first year his second year they were they were a consistent N9 10 seed they were able to get to a seven seed loss to a team that they probably was supposed to lose to and you still lose your job so when you when you set a standard like that what is the Silling for JJ or a s high risk High reward it is crazy the Lakers well what you think about also the their last hire Darin ham firsttime head coach and that was someone they felt was a leader in the locker room a guy that could lead a LeBron James Anthony Davis LED roster and we saw how that ended two years and so do you go the experience route with a guy like James brao we know Sam Cassell he’s been a part of multiple staffs that have won at high levels do you go that route um or do you go the route of first time another first-time head coach in JJ reic where there is a lot of potential you know there’s upside but then you also it’s just sounds like a silly concept to me to get another firsttime coach you’re getting another rookie coach as firing a rookie coach after firing a coach they got the job what is this new rookie coach do the old R coach didn’t just do yeah I mean does it just feel like it’s a temporary job no matter who they hire it feels like the Lakers job is temporary they go and get Donan Mitchell they go and get a star player like that then all of a sudden now they got action now and when have you ever managed these type of talents as a head coach you’re you’re barely removed from it in the first place so I don’t really I don’t get again I think J reic is more of a rebuilding situation coach where he can get the respect of the locker room young guys that looked up to him when you’re looking at an older team that’s built to win right now I don’t know if JJ re is the guy that they would want or need or that the players are going to respect right away I get that ego would would tell you like oh no I want this job like if you’re JJ reic I would think you’d be like no I want the Lakers job but again if you’re being true to yourself yeah sure is that how you want to start I mean he’s a competitive person he’s a former he’s a former player I’m sure he he wants new challenges and you know obviously him being in this conversation he thinks he’s fit for the job and I’m sure he would want it on the outside looking in we’ve seen scenario after scenario this is not his name seems to be attached to those quite a few times however looks like he’s got a lot left in the tank unrestricted free agent so we’ll start with out here in Los Angeles the Lakers Chandler how would dear fit there I don’t love the fit personnel-wise I think he’s a great player he’s the master of the mid-range game I think they need shooting they need spacing the floor with Anthony Davis with LeBron James going downhill clogging the paint I’d rather see a Klay Thompson I’d rather see someone like that here dear is a perfect fit in Chicago there’s other teams I think he can do I I I just can’t see him in La it doesn’t make sense to me I think it’s I think it’s a bad fit but you know this is a deal that’s two years too late I think they should should have done this the first time that it came up a couple of years ago so I like him either staying in Chicago or or you know maybe come on down to ATL oh yeah maybe come on down to ATL we pair him up with Trey and deante and let’s see what we can do with that I don’t see that here on my I don’t see my hypothet um we do have other big Market teams though New York Knicks is that’s I I mean I’m looking dear like is he going to love the tibs way of life no no no he’s too old right now to going to that riff ra I ain’t asking RI there’s that word ain’t going to the next no I don’t think okay okay how about Miami n again really yeah but they got some shooting this foot put around him hero yeah no but hero Duncan Robinson I like to shoot around them they’re not going to pay Martin to he’s going to bring in a hall this summer right so I could see Miami more so than the Lakers I’m sticking with the Hawks they’re not on here it’s not an option yes it is they’re in the NBA barely I Ain doing this with you I can’t I ain’t doing this you say barely I’m not doing it I got to go home this week I ain’t doing this don’t be so sensitive all you IDI I got to go back to the crib this week you idiots uh James Harden okay we’re he just finished out that two-year deal right he’s got an unrestricted free agent moment here and uh before we dive into what we think he may or may not do the question marks are this do we see him willing to take less money if it’s to a legit Contender he should he’s so rich he’s made so much money like all he needs to solidify his resume as a Hall of Fame player which he already is is a championship you talk about he’s never won in the big game he’s always kind of Fizzles out in the playoffs yeah I think he should take that he makes so much money off the court he makes so much money on the court like what’s another deal to him at this age of at this point of his life like I think he could really go and fit somewhere N I can’t I can’t see this one but I don’t want to jump ahead here to a couple of the other option I speak for everyone in San Antonio when I say I don’t see James Harden and Greg papovich and the kind of him being executed executed every eventually dies when will this mess end boring our base is under attack an enemy has been defeated double kill I walk across the world who am I does that matter your team has destroyed a tower R the bur it all right them up cor for my fire ultimate I walk across the world in th execution who am I an ally has been defeated fizzled out onslot one bloodb for fore for violence always good first blun you have been defeated a enemy double kill
