Also, re Giddey: His value has a great chance to increase where it should in regards to his abilities as a lead guard with this summer being an international hoops summer and the Olympics being front and center. Based on the way Josh plays in that format, even just as far as stuffing the box score, plus being a great leader and pretty much the best player on his team, and that it gives him a chance to showcase how he would look OFF of the thunder and on a team where he gets to play the way he could play on another team being used to do what he does best… this is THE perfect opportunity to move on from the off court the BS and ppl trolling and using it to diminish his market value, by playing the great way he can as the teams lead ball handler and looking great on the court which always makes ppl forget their preconceived notions…. His trade value can totally go back to that of a successful, still young high potential number 6 level pick
I think we're over thinking the question about Giddey. Presti has a vision of this team with Giddey and if Giddey wants to stay in OKC he will have to convince Presti that he is fully committed, not marginally, to that vision. If Giddey commits, Presti will make him something special, if not, he's gone. This draft is unique. It lacks obvious stars, but it is deep in role players. I like Tristan da Silva, he checks a lot of boxes, but I trust that if anyone can find the best fit for this team, it's Presti.
Is prime draymond the prototype we should be looking for? Has the passing skills that would lessen the need for pg, could move Shai to point and jdub to sg/sf. I know Andrew said he was looking more for a 3/4 than a 4/5 but Mark Jackson was playing him at the 3 when he was first drafted😂
When talking Giddey we always mention age but leave out the most important part, he stinks, he’s not good. Idc that he’s young and has potential. We talk about Giddey like he earned the starting job. Other than being the 6th pick, what has he done that says he deserves to start in this league?
I think the best fir for josh on okc is for him running the 2nd unit, when shai is off the court. We saw him at his best when he had the ball when shai was out. We saw in the playoffs that shai was the only good playmaker and once he went off the offense died. Let josh run the bench unit + chet or jdub next season and he can be a good playmaker and 6th man
Giddey was unplayable when it mattered most this season. Unless he becomes a much better three point shooter or drive threat, both parties are probably better off going their separate ways. I like JWill personally, but he should be an end of the bench guy. Chet and the rest of the team need some real help in the frontcourt. Lopez would be a good fit, if he is actually available. If they are going to try to find someone like that through the draft, then maybe Kyle Filipowski, DaRon Holmes, or Kel'el Ware could contribute relatively early.
My main thought on Giddey, assuming he continues to be here: is he in the starting five when the season starts? Is he there when the playoffs start?
Barring drastic improvements from him on both ends of the floor, I will be somewhat frustrated if the latter is the case. "No expectations" basketball is over for this group. It's now time to start chasing a title, and I don't want to be in a situation where we're waiting for Josh to get benched again when the serious games start. If he continues to not be a good fit with the rest of the core, the organization needs to move on as soon as possible.
EDIT: Just finished the pod. The Thunder may not need a big splash move to win as Andrew says, but they have an unprecedented opportunity as a 57-win team with cap space and a stockpile of assets to make a significant addition to this roster now before SGA/Dub/Chet's contracts get expensive. I would hope the organization at least considers making a bigger move, even if they don't find the right deal.
Although I don't think Sam will trade Josh this year, we shall see which direction he will go in a few months. In order to win the championship, the Thunder needs guys like Giddey and Lu. Guys who have unique skill sets but are not max guys. Giddey said in the exit interview that he's really like to play with this team. I think he would work in the off-season to improve his game, in which he can help his team in critical moments.
I don’t care how, they have to address the second chance points teams are getting on them. There’s nothing more momentum killing to me than getting a much needed stop and then being outhustled/sized for a put back
Here is why people have the Giddey narrative wrong. The Thunder already have 4 players they want to close games on any given nights in SGA, Jdud, Chet, and Lu. That leaves to only 1 player you can sub out if Thunder is not playing well. Thunder currently have 3 guys they can sub in every night based on match up, players' performances, and game plans in Josh, Cason, and Isaiah. The only thing they are lacking right now is a strong backup center who can hold off opponents big on rebounding or give Chet some breather when he go to the bench. Its not all about Josh is unplayable or playing bad or that nature. It's just you have to make change when your players are not making plays. And Josh is that easy guy you can sub out if the coach feel like he needs to make a change on the court.
Josh’s numbers last year – 16-8-6 show he’s a good player & he played quite well the last 6 weeks of this season & against the Pels. Being only 21 he will continue getting stronger ; has elite passing skills, is very competitive & loves being part of this team. Also, is a great insurance policy if Shai or Jdub get hurt. His value should continue to increase over next few years so sign him to reasonable extension and let the future unfold. These “ instant gratification “ folks drive me crazy with their short sighted “win now” at all costs attitude.
Nobody worth moving up for in the draft this year to me all of them from 6 to 12 are interchangeable so best bet is to package the picks and get an established Big that can shoot and space the floor I would throw everything at Utah to come off Markueen he's the dream guy for this team and that missing piece ain't nobody in this draft worthy of trading up for
I’m looking at signing Aaron Wiggins more than I am moving Josh. I think Giddey will be a great player but the fit on this team isn’t great. His potential is too big to be put into a smaller role. I’d love Giddey to stay a Thunder tho
