but I believe James Jones runs the Suns former teammate of LeBron James not to be uh confused with the James Jones at the desk GM of the sons is James Jones a former teammate of LeBron James there are ties there obviously got the better James we got the better James no doubt about it no doubt about it Joy this was complex so add the Nuance to it but do you have an issue with brony’s draft approach saying no to the 10 teams and only accepting an offer from two to three two to three the Lakers and Suns being two of those teams I’m conflicted on this because who am I to question the team that he has around him right good team they are good they are good the best of the best the best there is so I’m not going to question that because that’s not that’s not my lane and if if someone was in in my world was trying to get advice on this business they’d be coming to me and I’d be giving them really good advice and they would do it go to the best of the best but I can relate to Paving my own way and my resume is beond approach so can nobody tell me nothing about how I got here or what we’re doing today it would take you too long for me to run through all the things I’ve done so there is something to that so I think that you can do things a certain way but you can’t control the narrative right you can’t you can’t move all of those strings at the same time and that’s sort of my my what’s conflicting for me the strategy obviously makes sense because he’s going to play with his father and his father is not going to to go to any of these other teams but when you’re coming into the draft obviously there’s different elements of it how do you want to display yourself do are are you here to play in the NBA are you here to play with your father because from the interviews he he said he wanted to separate from his father well this is not separating so I I am very conflicted about the strategy again it’s hard for me to say he’s not doing the right thing because the people giving him advice are the best people in the business to give him advice but from the outside looking in you can’t control who and how your story is told right we all want that we all want to be able to to end our careers and say this is how I’d like it to be told about me but your decisions are received by people very differently sometimes than you want them to be received so I I’m just I’m just conflicted about what the narrative is going to be what people are going to feel and are they wrong for feeling that way if you are only going to work out for the teams that you would play with your father you you you use the word often right it’s subjective I think they’re using I think the Lakers not the Lakers bronnie is trying to do the right thing for LeBron but are we doing the right thing for bronnie bronnie just wants to play basketball y’all heard his quote it was last week he was at the combine and he said I’m not even worried about playing with my dad I just want to get into the league but if you were just trying to get into the league you would work out for as many teams as possible three of us have sat at this desk and we’ve all been drafted shady I don’t know how many workouts you had to do I know this much though Eagles called me Juan Castillo defensive coordinator for the Eagles hey we want to work you out I said bet Andy Reid hey we want to work I said bet oh Browns you want to work me out I said bet I wasn’t going to sit here and I only want to play with the Arizona Cardinals because my brother plays for the Arizona Cardinal so I’m only going to work out for the Cardinal and it’s Cardinals or bus no whoever is going to work me out I will work out for you because I just want to be drafted bronnie said he just wants to be drafted but LeBron don’t just want to play everywhere LeBron would probably only want to play with the Lakers or stay on the west coast he has so many businesses over here obviously the Arizona James Jones you know it’s a 45h hour minute flight hourong flight and braon probably only wants to play with KD or keep playing with ad braon don’t want to go play in Charlotte with Lon o andm so is it the best thing for bronnie appears no is it the best thing for Bron appears yes and that’s where my turmoil is because Bron has already lived his life and he has lived it to the highest degree billionaire from nothing he’s lived his life straight from akan Ohio I just want to see bronnie live his let me let me ask you guys this right because I’ve been thinking about it and it’s tough on both sides it’s tough it’s tough it’s tough would you guys say that the best way for bronny James to get into the pros is going through his father yeah yeah okay so if I want to live on my dream and I’m blessed to have this type of insurance having my father who loves me dearly is gonna help me get into the league right I’m G do that and another thing is and the NBA is so weird because it’s different from our our game where when guys get drafted especially first round we expect these dudes to play now MH it’s not like the NBA these go go to these guys go to the G leagues all the different things and then eventually they show up ready to play so what if if he goes to the league let’s say he doesn’t work out for them other teams or let’s say he does work for other teams and he gets drafted I don’t know about a 30th or the 28th team whoever that is and he has to go to the G league is that really the league is that really that you really want to do right so when I when I think about this whole scenario maybe because I I do think he has the best um agent in basketball with clut sports right I think that one of the the biggest icons we’ve ever seen in sports not just basketball in sports his father right so getting advice I have to call you or call you I’m calling my Dad and I I think that the best way for him to make it in in NBA right now because I’m not I don’t know he’s so young and I think with basketball more than football is that you can really develop yourself in basketball you can notot be that good and I’m not saying I’m not saying he’s not good I’m just saying you can not be you could be average and get a lot better and better and better where in our sport we’re in college for three years we’re a little bit stronger right we’re a little bit ready to go and then you could be really good as a rookie and second here already because we’re already developed where in basketball there’s there more potential so say all that to say this maybe he goes to LeBron James’s dad’s way right either work out for these two teams where his father will play at if it’s if it’s um the Arizona Suns or if it’s the Lakers right he gets into the league and he develops his game and he has enough impact where they keep him when his dad retires yeah it go either way I just think that if it’s me I’m going the best way possible for myself and it looks like the best way is going through my father there’s nothing wrong with that does that not make y’all feel talking to you Shady talking to you James specifically in this moment I didn’t like I didn’t like what you said because Joy you brought this up in the pre-show and it was it was a very it was a very well set point Joe you brought up in the pre show meeting that in sports at least on the field sports is supposed to be the ultimate meritocracy you eat what you kill if you work hard you make it that’s it life is not about meritocracy life is about nepotism and cronyism your friends hire you your family hire you but in sports all that is removed the ultimate meritocracy Shady you had to get the offer from pit cuz then nobody else off you after you hurt your ankle and then you balded it pit then you went to the league then you the Eagles alltime rushing leader you did all of that all of it all of it you did it you did it all that’s crazy you saying like this cuz you know good and well some coaches out there that don’t know nothing about football right but they but they dad course hold on hold on there’s guys that get jumped over people because they know yes a th% in coaching all the time and sometimes it works all the time K sh him it worked for him I I can keep going down the line and some players that how he make this team cuz he can’t play he know somebody or it’s times how he make this team because he know Dam he could play though so I hear what you saying but it’s it’s it’s both sides in football and in basketball and all that stuff especially in basketball and all that St all that stuff is true but a lot of these coaches even though they got dads and stuff they started off as G and all that type stuff to work their way up to the top on this show this is tough because I have two boys right and they both play football they both really good football players hopefully one day they let adriam right if they first round picks like Jamar Chase what we working out for ain’t no need to go work out for none of these teams right you like that you about to be a Bonafide first round pick because it’s on the tape your stuff ain’t on the tape we don’t know where you going in this draft the more opportunities you get to show yourself to other teams should be better because you are trying to get yourself drafted right now they got you going in the second round the fourth round fifth round whatever it may be you know what I’m saying in football terms go show these dudes what you got so when you hear bronnie say I’m trying to even though it’s not going to happen I’m trying to make my own way and separate myself from my father get this how I’m supposed to get it earn it how I want to earn it show these people you’re not doing that because it’s 13 plus teams that want to work you out and you saying no just two and for me if you’re not a Bonafide first round pick you should be wanting to show every team what you are and what you have to get into the NBA to let them know I’m that type player and it’s not just because my dad right now when you say it’s just these two teams it’s strictly just because of your dad at one point you got to have that dog in you to say nah man I’m going to go show these teams what I have I don’t see that from bronnie and I understand this is a totally different situation because your dad is LeBron James but that Competitive Edge to be like man let me go show these teams what I got what if his dad get him there and he keep himself there though cuz get that’s that’s totally I’m saying so let’s say my question is if he gets in the door from his dad right he gets his dad gets him through the door right his dad leave eventually if he’s good to keep to stay there he gets better he works on his game I’m cool with that so what’s the argument I ain’t working for them other teams and I’m good I’m going to my dad and once I get up in the door it’s my show let’s revisit this other side of the bik got there’s more he I hating cuz it was de if I’m a coach for my son’s team I’m put
