[Krell] Think “max contract” can sometimes falsely be equated to 4-year deal or more. Here’s how max deals for Jimmy Butler and Paul George would project out. Basically same age, so the questions should be fit and how much acquiring either limits assets for building rest of roster.

    Paul George is a free agent, only comes at the cost of his contract. Paul George will also try hard for the entire year. Have we forgotten how passive Jimmy was the entire season? If we’re really trying to lessen the load on Embiid to get to the playoffs don’t we want the guy who will play most games and not take off for whatever reason he has this time. Do we also forget Jimmy refused to shoot? We need spacing for the big man and for Maxey. If PG is off the table and Jimmy is the next best option sure do it, but if it’s a choice then take the FA who will compete, shoot, and leave us with assets.

    Another question: How supremely annoying are they?

    Jimmy = Very.

  3. These posts are funny to me because they act like we have the choice between these two (or 3 if you include LeBron) when the most realistic option is that we’re not able to get either of them no matter what we offer.

  4. If we could guarantee playoff Jimmy, I would pay him in a heartbeat. But there’s no guarantee he’ll get back to that level at his age, and he is pretty much a non factor in the regular season.

    I’m fine with both, but at the end of the day PG just costs money which lets us squeeze out another move in addition.

    So Jimmy would be declining his 2025-2026 player option to sign the extension and it becomes a three year deal then?

    That’s a lot more palatable than a four year deal with two years after his PO.

    Only one of the two is a proven winner. Ideally, I’d want both.
