GET UP | Jayson Tatum unhappy for Jaylen Brown on his ECF MVP – Brian Windhorst concerned on Celtics

that they say that kid embodies and he’s going to become he is showing on the good nights and the bad nights and last night was a really good night meanwhile Jay the late game execution as we just oppose it to something that we saw just a week ago was critical last night take us through it all right let’s talk through literally the last couple possessions here uh well the last possession for the Dallas Mavericks but first off griny let’s remind people what happened with the Indiana Pac right game one we spent all morning long talking about one of the worst run big plays of all time so you’re going to see right they didn’t call a timeout you’re seeing that with the sit they could have advanced the ball Rick car chose not to and pasak is actually running back towards the Boston Celtics Rim that’s obviously when they got the inbound plays Jaylen Brown makes a huge three in the corner sends the game in over time they win right here it is one more time that literally this was when the Pacers threw the series away in game one and that’s what you’re seeing right the inbound pass why are you making an inbound pass why are you not calling a timeout why are you not advancing the ball it’s everything that you saw Chris Finch and his team do differently for the Minnesota Timberwolves so late game execution you see one side of it now let’s see the other side okay so they get the re round they call a timeout they Advance the ball down the floor first thing Rick Carlile should have done with the Pacers right also advancing the ball down the floor a couple things that UD and I are going to point out here that just first off I don’t know what’s going on what the hell is you Luca looking at where is he his back is to the ball and can I move it to somebody else UD yes yes here PJ Washington here on the high side with his back to the basketball you should not be on the high side you should be protecting the rim pushing everything to half court and also have your eye on the basket with with your legs bent and and be in The Stance these two guys are in The Stance you see Kyrie in The Stance he’s been here before you see Luca not in the stands you see PJ Washington not in the stands all right so you got one guy who’s not on the ball who’s not pushing the ball into the back court and Luca you have another guy in PJ Washington that’s standing up with his back towards the ball right basketball IQ that’s not what you do so watch as the ball goes into the back you’re going to see Luca go backwards I don’t know why he’s going that way I don’t know why Luca’s going this way here I don’t know what the hell’s going on there and as the play develops you’re going to see a cross screen greeny you’re going to see a screen here and you’re going to see him come off that screen now PJ Washington and Kyrie PJ Washington is already on the high side already out of position already out of position if n re wants to he can just slip this to the basket automatically he doesn’t even have to set the screen because PJ Washington’s already out of position all right so he’s out of position but Kyrie this should be an easy switch Kyrie on the low side Kyrie take the man rolling and then that could be PJ Washington taking him over to top they don’t switch and when they don’t switch look that’s an easy slip and also I go back to my point about Luca Luca not being on the ball here they turn your Rim look at the vision this gives him he can see the whole core yeah also he can see I don’t know what what is Luka even doing the play that’s old school 1 1000 2 1000 jump to the inside jump to the inside easy he sees the whole court and it leaves Naas Reed for easy slip I mean anyone can notice you’ve got three Mavericks who are behind the play you have two Timberwolves who are literally ahead of any of the defenders in in other sports this would be offside right because you you you can’t there’s all of them are back here and these two guys and give him a lot of credit McDaniel’s in the corner opens up the floor Nazar sees it but Kyle Anderson made so many plays down the stretch and him being 68 69 he can see over the top of things but there’s no ball pressure on him and that’s similar to the pass we saw nimart try to make the pass gyakum but this is actually towards their own basket and look at the accuracy of the pass look at the right hand here right here right at the top nobody’s getting that Kyrie 61 62 he’s not getting that ball to NZ re 610 611 those are kind of plays in execution down the stretch which is different and also yeah you got to credit Finch for using Ant-Man as a diversion that time running him to half court the play was never for him he had nothing to do with the play at all but everybody in the focus took Luca to half court and everybody focused on that that that’s the kind of thing you know it’s so interesting a coach makes a decision like that because if they wind up if it winds up going the other way and you didn’t have the ball in the hands of your best player people are going to say well why the hell didn’t a have the ball so they make late games decisions sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t Minnesota’s late game uh execution in the series had been bad the first three games last night they make the biggest play of the night and they get back in or at least stay alive in the series meanwhile waiting in the wings of course the Celtics who are to say well rested is going to be the understatement of the century they clinched on Monday there were were led by Jaylen Brown who hoisted the Larry Bird trophy after being named the Conference Finals MVP here he was on winning that award I wasn’t expecting that at all you know I’ll never win so U I was just happy that we won um and give credit to Indiana you know they they played us tough I know like people think that Indiana wasn’t a good team or whatever the case mean I mean I thought they was tough as anybody we’ve played all season um they were physical they were fast they put a lot of pressure on us so shout out to them and respect to them okay so it certainly looked as though Jaylen Brown was surprised to win that award and he said it’s because I never win anything and I think a lot of people were surprised and there was a lot of chatter online yesterday to whatever degree this is important and relevant about Jason Tatum’s reaction when Jaylen Brown wins that award in the moment that it happens the the rest of the team just goes crazy and you were you were talking about it in our meeting earlier this morning they all were so genuinely look at them they were all so genuinely excited for him and you did what you did not seem to think that it was mirrored in Jason tat I think Jason was just shock I think he played well down the stretch he led them in rebounding it was something that you wouldn’t expect him to do you think that a big man would take care of that but I think Jason tat was shocked I think the last couple games he was the best player but the series was turned around with that shot that Jaylen Brown made make no mistake about it and if we go back to everything that has happened he has been the most consistent Celtics in the playoffs so far yeah look I mean the Wendy Jaylen Brown was not on any of the all NBA teams this year and Jason Tatum finished on First Team all NBA which is an interesting Dynamic among two players who are a lot more equal than your traditional Batman and Robin usually are and so that Dynamic is always going to be an interesting one to follow yeah and two of his teammates Derek uh Derk white and uh and Drew holiday made the all defensive team and Jaylen thought he should have been on all defensive team so while things were going well in this series he was a little bit hurting that he wasn’t recognized by the awards from the media and look this was an extremely close vote it was nine there’s nine voters who decide the MVPs of these series it went five4 uh to Brown to potum so it wasn’t a huge difference there but obviously you could tell that there’s a that there’s a little bit of a thing that I think Jaylen felt a little bit of a chips on his shoulder not with animous to his teammate but with animous towards the voters who didn’t give him proper credit and look I’ll give him this if you look at their statistics from the allstar game on they arguably have been just equally as effective in fact Jaylen has shot the ball a little better than Tatum Tatum’s going to rebound the ball a little bit more and Brown’s going to handle the ball a little bit more that’s the way they play but I will say that Tatum is an incredible position he averaged 30 points 10 rebounds and five assists in this series that is nothing to sneeze at he is going to have a great opportunity with home Corin advantage in the finals to make his Mark and really recover from what was a a bit of a let down at the end of the 22 uh finals which he’s still in some ways recovering from from a reputation standpoint yeah you’ve talked about the summer of Tatum which he could easily have he could win a championship he could be named the finals MVP he’s going to get the biggest contract in NBA history and know by the way he may add a gold medal to that over the course of this summer as well but that dynamic between the two look they’ve done it great no one here was suggesting there was a problem between the two of them but it is not an easy Dynamic to walk but we’ve we’ve seen it historically and just look at the relationship between Michael Jordan and Scotty Pippen today and there are a lot of other dynamics that have gone into that over the decades but it is not an easy thing to keep together well it’s not an easy thing to keep together because I think when the media looks into every single detail which we do which people naturally do like we were talking about this other other the first thing you look at is when Jaylen Brown holds his trophy up my eyes go to where is Jason Tatum these are the two Bonafide leaders of this team are they together on the same page but when you feel that pressure from the outside I don’t care what anybody says you that naturally trickles into relationships and you have to deal with that one e one like if you do and I have an issue like not an issue it’s being a manufactured issue then all a sudden you and I have to deal with it and that takes constant communication that’s challenging you live through a good illustration of this when when LeBron James first came to Miami you were there that was Dwayne Wade’s team it was Dwayne Wade’s City he had won a championship he had been a Finals MVP there what did you witness between the two of them many many mo ago greeny many many mo ago but but I witnessed Dwayne way who was the best player on our team and the best player in history at that time go to LeBron James and say hey this your team you need to be your best version I will figure it out and immediately you can see a weight just lifted off LeBron James shoulders his mind was clear he was able to play free and everybody else was able to figured out and D Wayne’s a hell of a basketball player so for him to go to LeBron and say that let talks about sacrifice and we talk about that when Luca had Kyrie come in and those guys bring in another guy you got to be willing to sacrifice and step to the side and understand that he’s there for betterment of you and that team it’s a great example and I think these two players who first of all from what I’ve heard from people in Boston they’ve actually gotten along a lot better this year than they have in the past they almost know the two of them know we’ve got to win a championship like we got to figure this out they’re under two different pressures I think for Jason Tatum it’s the pressure to prove that he’s a winner yes and that’s been the question for Jaylen Brown It’s the pressure to prove that he is an equal that he belongs among the elite mentioned among them like he said I don’t win thing I never win anything like I think for him he believes I belong up there with all these other names everybody’s talking about so there’s two different pressures that they’re feeling it’s not against each other it’s just separate well it’s just what out of all the superstars that we’ve seen together and you do you gave that great example of LeBron James and and dwade like that’s dwade acknowledging that LeBron James like you are that right I don’t think we’ve ever seen two superstars so close and so similar and skill set yes ever right where it’s like you don’t sometimes you don’t know who’s 1A like you start questioning really who’s 1A and that’s natural tension exists between people I don’t care Tatum’s like a singular Talent Brown is the force multiplier behind the scenes whereas Tatum is not that and I think that’s the difference in the two of them well and and to your point UD D like that that was LeBron coming to Dwayne Wade’s team I remember A-Rod coming to Derek cheer’s team and A-Rod moved to Third Base when candidly he was the best shortstop that had ever lived a million years ago I remember Moses Malone coming to Philadelphia in ‘ 83 and saying this is still Doc’s team even though clearly and Moses with the MVP that year and they won the championship these things are not always easy but look they figured out to the tune of 64 wins this year and and now they’re four wins quick they kind of reminds me of the KD Stephen Curry Klay Thompson everybody made it such a thing about whose team it is how many MVPs like they have to learn how to navigate that world in order for them to be successful they win championships guess what win and cures everything win and cures everything well it didn’t cure it in the case of Golden State what saying became even more up together KD Russell Westbrook down there making City before call your team has destroyed a tower an ally has been defeated your tower has been destroyed an ally has been defeated our base is under attack you have defeated an enemy e an ally has been defeated enemy double kill enemy triple kill get over here take our base is under attack lock you have defeated an enemy for V forign stronger opponents bring them on First Blood humans are me an enemy has been defeated double kill cannot be those who don’t kill end up death your team has destroyed a tower an enemy has en double kill

  1. 😂 they soo mad we're in the finals that they trying to break up 🔥 and 🧊 😂😂😂😂 pathetic Celtics in 6 🍀

  2. Media has reached a concerning low point, exemplified by the laziness of ESPN journalists opting for the path of least resistance. The essential role of media is undeniable, however, the lack of effort displayed by ESPN does not align with this necessity. A pair of individuals working together as a cohesive unit have made significant contributions leading them to the finals. Rather than commending and utilizing them as a model for the younger generation, ESPN seemingly chooses to fabricate conflicts between them. This approach is not journalism; it is a display of apathy and irresponsibility on the part of these journalists who seem unwilling to venture beyond their comfort zones to present authentic stories. The issue at hand extends beyond Boston and transcends personal biases. When Tatum scores 36 points in a game and secures a victory, the criticism from Perk suggesting he should have scored 50 illustrates a misplaced focus on personal attention. It is imperative to hold these individuals accountable for their actions. How can one not recognize and celebrate the achievements of individuals demonstrating teamwork and advancing to the finals?

  3. Y’all so full of it. Stop speaking for players cause you look like idiots. Tatum was just as excited for Jay as the rest of the team smdh

  4. This is the most pathetic line of hate I have ever seen.

Neither Tatum nor Brown GAF about the Larry Bird Eastern Conference Finals MVP trophy (sorry Larry Legend).

They both have one thing on their mind and that is to win a championship. Nothing else matters despite the media needing to create hate and division for clicks.

  5. LMAO it was nothing to do with Moses going to Philly or LeBron coming to Miami.

Both Jaylen and Jayson were DRAFTED BY THE CELTICS

My God, the stupidity of this conversation is next level.

  6. To say Tatum isn't happy for Brown is ridiculous. He had a genuine smile on his face when Brown won that MVP. It's just trying to create drama for no reason. It feels like nobody wants the Celtics to win and are trying to do whatever they can to put any kind of pressure they can on them. The Celtics and Tatum hate I've seen this playoff run is weird as hell. And Udonis Haslem is just a Celtics hater, period.

  7. This is dumbest thing ever first you got a former Miami heat player who hates them saying this makes it even more crazy smh do better ESPN

  8. Aye y'all need to stop this narrative of the Jays don't like each other…Jayson is super excited about jaylen winning but the job isn't finished so it doesn't matter who won what ! PERIOD

  9. This reporting is becoming scary what the fuck are we doing…. Fr this feels like it’s AI made the shit coming out of these “journalists” mouths is pathetic and ruining basketball

  10. The shit the media tries to come up with is wild. I will say that if they do win this year then maybe, MAYBE, after a few years Brown might want to try and be a #1 on his own team. We have to win first though.

  11. Tatum seems happy for his boy. I don’t think he’s upset he didn’t get it he just wants that chip and prove these talking heads wrong. Even though they’ll still have some excuse to talk sh!t. Like “oh JB was the reason they won” no they won as a TEAM. It’s not one player who wins a championship

  12. Tatum is def happy for brown, hell even in the allstar game tatum told the coach to give brown his minutes so he could try and get the MVP of that game. media is forcing to much shit on the C's that doesnt need to be there.

  13. People needs to stop hating and enjoy great hoops foreal. And stopp putting doris to comentate during games i have to mute it gosh.

  14. If Jason wasn't happy..He is a freaking selfish player..When Jason got any award Brown always congrats him..
