[Josh Hart] “Derrick White is more impactful than Jayson Tatum. Look at every main play in the last 6 minutes of the 4th to OT — every big play, he made. He’s one of the most impactful players because he does everything on the court at a high level.”

Item #512311221 on the list of NBA players saying dumb shit

  2. Ohanrahans

The Buffalo is my favorite player on the Celtics, but this ain’t it chief.

  3. MattyIce1635

ESPN just offered Hart a job after basketball

  4. nowhathappenedwas

Best playoff EPM for remaining players:

    1. Edwards, +5.3
    2. Doncic, +5.0
    3. White, +4.4
    4. Tatum, +2.7
    5. Kyrie, +2.4

  5. SoSmartCs

Damn I didn’t know Josh Hart was Perkins’ nephew.

  6. I_Set_3_Alarms

Where was this when the Celtics were campaigning that he should be an All Star, Josh Hart? Smh

  7. PomfAndCircvmstance

NBA players, pro athletes in general, are mostly dumb as hell and have dumb opinions about most things.

White is more impactful than Tatum is the dumbest basketball related opinion I’ve seen from a player in a minute. Good work Josh Hart.

  8. KingNephew

This is the type of narrative people will claim was never said in as little as a week.

  9. Did he get CTE from playing 48 minutes game after game?

  10. mattbrianjess

Josh I love you but are you more impactful than Brunson too?

  11. campoon12

There is something mentally wrong with your ability to assess basketball if you watch a Celtics game of basketball and think the White is more impactful than Tatum. This shit has become so obscenely stupid

  12. Statistically, Derrick White has been the most impactful Celtics player through this playoff run so far. Efficient scoring, good facilitating, great defense, basically no turnovers. He’s basically the model glue guy and we’re blessed to have him.

That said, Tatum playing up to his usual standards basically guarantees a victory for the Celtics, and the team goes as he does.

  13. Brad-Stevens

This is a sneaky way of saying I am more impactful than Brunson

  14. thepeachgod

I appreciate Derrick for almost never making mistakes but that’s usually because he’s the 4-5th option on offense and guarding the 4-5th option on defense. Like going 3/3 on the plays they need him to is great but that’s still not better than the others going 13/15 on the plays they need to come through on

  15. New_Essay_4869

White is so good but people acting like Tatum aint a top 5 player in the league lol

  16. TIL Josh Hart is a Pat Bev/Gilbert Arenas level nephew

  17. SultanRaikage

For a player as great as Tatum is I find it so weird how the discourse is constantly around his shortcomings or negatives. He’s universally considered a top 10 player but no one talks about that positively, the conversation is always about why he’s not top 5. He is the ultimate “glass half empty” player

  18. rumblegod

Lmao the Jayson Tatum shade doesn’t make logical sense. Look at his numbers!!!!
Guy is obviously taking a back seat to win. He can easily put up 30+ a game and be a ball hog but he wants to win. 😭😭

  19. PayterLobo

Thats crazy..lol so if you take JT off the team Derrick White is still more impactful? Come on man

  20. I don’t understand how people think an admittedly elite role player who does everything well has more impact than the literal #1 option that your offense revolves around, who ALSO does pretty much everything well.

Like do people not know what the word “more” even means? If you think that Derrick White is MORE impactful to a game than Jayson Tatum, you are beyond help. Is he more efficient in his role? Maybe, sure, but that’s not what more impactful means. The Tatum takes lately have been so wild

  21. TheLeoMessiah

This is just a classic case of someone using vague terminology to dodge a question. I.E, a way to say DWhite is better than Tatum without outright saying he is better. It’s like when we have MVP discussions where we talk about who has been the best player in any given season and somebody chimes in with “yeah Luka, Jokic, and Shai were better but Brunson is my MVP because he was more valuable to his team”, and now the discussion goes around defining “value” vs just outright best player.

Not saying Hart is necessarily wrong, but it just feels like a bit of a cop out for having a controversial opinion lol. Now we’re discussing what exactly “impact” means and it’s a more convoluted/subjective discussion that doesn’t really mean much imo

  22. CrissCrossAppleSos

I don’t care how crazy this is, as a spurs fan this rocks to see Derrick get such praise

  23. Can some explain to me why there is so much discourse about Tatum. I only follow wolves so I understand the Rudy-French, Ant-MJ comparisons stuff. But so many posts about Tatum and I don’t get it. Are people against the idea of him being good or for it?

  24. Tatum, the guy they pretty much built in a lab that does everything well on the court. Ok :/

  25. considertheoctopus

Day 3 of no Celtics basketball and we’re now debating whether Derrick White is better than Jayson Tatum smh.

  26. TheDadLyfe

That’s a little excessive… but White is such a perfect cog in a championship-level team

  27. Far-Asparagus6416

Try to compliment a celtics player without shitting on JT challenge [[[IMPOSSIBLE]]]

  28. ElPanandero

Derrick White should have been an all star, I don’t even take this as Tatum slander because White genuinely is so valuable to this team

  29. at_least_u_tried

Love to see dwhite get appreciation, just wish it was said in literally any other way lol.

    i still love josh hart.

  30. LurkyOtoul

I love D white and he’s crucial to our success but this take is terrible and needs to be deleted

  31. The funny part is that for their list of top 5 players left, after Luka, Kyrie, Ant and JT – nobody said Kat or Rudy – you could practically see them skipping them in their heads!

  32. childish_jalapenos

People really getting creative with these Tatum disses

  33. GhostOfJiriWelsch

I love D-White but you can make this same argument *for* Tatum.

Everyone focuses on the scoring when he’s down but no one ever highlights the little things he does outside of that.

He’s playmaking at the highest level of his career and he’s an important cog in the defense—how many teams in the league can trust their first option to switch 1-4 defensively?

He’s had some really good games so far in the playoffs that kind of fit Hart’s description of White, but instead of praising him for those little things national media just piled on because he’s not averaging 35+ a night.

  34. bettywhiteslabia

Would white be able to make the plays he does if Tatum wasn’t on the floor pulling a double or triple team?

  35. Carrying an offense as a number 1 option is the hardest thing to do on the court. People sometimes see a guy who plays his role perfectly and start to overrate them. I get that Hart plays a similar role to White so he’s probably just biased

  36. guccimane333

So fucking stupid the Celtics hot takes have been extra wild this season

  37. ClappedCheek

One of the reasons Derek does all that, in addition to his own talent, is that Tatum is drawing double and triple teams. What a moronic take.

  38. Click_My_Username

If you wanna see who’s more impactful bring them to a team like the wizards and ask them to drag the team as far as they can as a number one option.

Roleplayers are only as impactful as they are because of superstars and vice versa. But the difference is ceiling vs floor.

IMO a superstar is a floor raiser while a roleplayer is a ceiling raiser if that makes sense. The roleplayers are the difference makers at the highest level but without the stars you aren’t even getting there. That’s not to say a great player can’t singlehandedly change a series but usually the stars equal out and the roleplayers are the ones who make the difference.

That isn’t to say a roleplayer is more impactful because the star is the reason they’re able to play so good and the reason they got to where they are usually.

  39. redmostofit

Give White Tatum’s role and see if he remains that impactful. He’s a great player, but he’s got a lot of room to operate in that team.
