YEAR ONE: Taylor Hendricks reviews his 1st NBA season π | UTAH JAZZ
my name is Taylor Hendricks I’m 20 years old this my first year in NBA I play for the Utah [Music] Jack with the ninth pick in the 2023 NBA draft the Utah Jazz Select Taylor Hendrick from UCF I would say um to start it was it kind of started slow for me cuz I had got injured during one of my pre-draft workouts so um during you know time I should be playing summer league I was you know nursing up at hamstring and so I start off a little bit slow and then uh I started off the season in the g- league so you know I kind of took it as a learning experience and you know made the most out of it um ended up being called up and you know played pretty well for for six games and then went back to the g- league and then um after the trade deadline uh started my first game and then since then I’ve been getting pretty good minutes during my time in the g- league uh I learned to be more patient with myself um just knowing that you know nothing’s going to be perfect um you know I’m going to make mistakes and still a learning process so just take everything everything as it is and you know don’t get too caught up on you know the the Downs of this of the journey me and Bryce really connected um because you know I’ve known Bryce pretty much a lot of my life since middle school pretty much you know coming from around the same area playing each other in high school championships um playing with each other during travel basketball so you know for us to kind of go through that little setback um during the beginning of the season was you know it’s kind of cool to have somebody you know to you know to go through it with uh the moment I block KD it was like a I don’t know it it was a crazy experience cuz you know I always watched the Miami Heat and you know watching them going against the Oklahoma City Thunder when they had Kevin Duran Russell Westbrook and you know to actually have him in front of me me guarding him uh it was kind of crazy that me going up to block a shot like in the moment I was like I was like hyped but I was trying to get back on offense but looking back on it was a big highlight of the season for me against the rookie drivve blocked oh that’s should boost the confidence of Taylor Henry uh having my career high against Sacramento uh it was definitely a big thing for me cuz you know most of the season I was really focused on you know how well I’m defending so you know to have a offensive game like that was you know pretty huge for me experienced a career night and having Bryce experienced it as well it was like you know it was a great experience you know um I’ve been rooting for him you know since forever so you know to see him do well and then me do well as well um it’s great uh so playing in Orlando for the first time um since since College it was it was great cuz I had a lot of fans from UCF over there and family um so you know just a player on that Court was it was great playing in Miami it was like a whole different experience cuz I grew up in that area and I watched a lot of Heat games and I’ve been that in that Arena a few times so you know to actually be playing on that Court it was it was like a full circle moment having a veteran presence is huge you know um guys you can look up to like Role Models really um you know when you get a little bit down on yourself you can see how they carry themselves when they’re you know in a little bit of a slump or things aren’t going the right way so um you know just having guys you can look at who’ve done this plenty of years um it’s definitely helpful uh what excites me most about going into my second year um I feel like I’m going to be a a bigger part um to start off with so um you know I’m definitely going to try to help lead the team to play more than 82 games next year
