“Mitchell is getting outscored by Franz Wagner!” – ESPN reacts Magic takes Game 4 over Cavs 112-89

between the Cavs and the magic Orlando coming off their third largest postseason win in franchise history looking to match the series at home the home team by the way is now won each game by double digit in this series we’ll see if this one continues the trend middle of the second Cavs up three that’s Mitchell to Jared Allen who goes up over Jonathan Isaac so it’s a five-point Cavs lead few minutes later Carris Levert feeds Allen again he puts that one away gets the friendly to roll cabs still up five Allen had a team High 21 points 16 of those coming in the first half 20 seconds to go Mitchell driving stops on a dime able to lay that one in Cavs took a ninepoint lead at the break Mitchell had 18 all of those coming in the first half Cavs outscored the magic 40 to 26 in the paint but boy would things look different in the second early third fron Vagner sinking the three then a few minutes later Jaylen Suggs to Vagner again on the inbound magic up one Vagner through three had 23 points 12 rebounds he would keep it going this time giving it off to Wendell Carter Jr who drains the three it’s a four-point magic lead B Caro to Carter who hits another three we’re up to seven that would cap a 172 Run for the magic and it would only get better later in the third in transition Suggs to Marquel folz who lays it in doesn’t get get the foul to fall but he does get two points there the magic outscored the Cavs 37-1 in the third quarter they started down nine they ended up 18 points early fourth it’s a 21-point lead now Fran’s brother Mo getting in on the action throwing that one down the magic absolutely dominating later on in the fourth in transition banero to fron Vagner hoop and the harm Vagner had a game high 34 points 13 boards as Orlando cruises to the [Music] 11289 win they even the series in the first round at 2-2 backto back playoff wins by 20 or more points for Orlando for the first time in franchise history they outscored the Cavs 61-29 in the second half let’s bring in our girl Ashley Nicole Moss to discuss what we just saw a game of two halfes really now before the game you and Vegas were on the same page in terms of who would win but that two and a half point spread wasn’t even close to what the result would look like obviously a big win for the magic what’ you take away from this one Ashley I think the biggest thing I took away is defense creates offense when your offense isn’t clicking that’s one of my favorite sayings and if you look at the tale of two halves if you will one thing that the Orlando Magic did not abandon this entire game is their defense defense and the chart the chart goes ahead and tells that story right if you look at their rebounds 48 to Cleveland’s 33 that created so many Second Chance opportunities I believe the magic had 13 to the Cavs too so they were living on the boards they were getting those opportunities wherever they can get them and also just completely dominating the Cales in the paint which is interesting because if you look at the first half right the Cavs were doing a really good job at being aggressive driving in the paint trying to get those foul calls those other opportunities at the line and just completely abandoned that and also the magic made it a lot harder for them to go ahead and do that they were putting that pressure on them before they could even get into the box so it just shows that adjustments are everything when it comes to the playoffs adjustments are everything when it comes to Sports in general but specifically the playoffs anything can happen from quarter to quarter and the magic showed once again it’s not how you start but it’s how you finish absolutely we can’t talk about the magic without talking about France who had just a huge game his 34 points a playoff game high in this one and when it comes to the magic Ashley we’re used to seeing Palo Caro light it up and sort of carry this team away but it was all Vagner today what was different about today that allowed him to get so open to hit shots to get in the paint whatever it was he was sort of having his way I think it was one that the cabs were really focus on Paulo and trying to make sure that he was locked down and unable to do what he does well and when you do that and you kind of narrow in and zero in rather on one particular player or two particular players that means what that you have a guy or multiple guys that aren’t having that same type of focus which it really has allowed him to cook also he was just playing very physical this Orlando Magic team we talk about this constantly they’re so big at every single position and if you look at the depth chart you have to get to nine on the depth chart before you even reach a negative plus minus which is insane everyone was in the plus whereas if you look at the Cavaliers you start from the top you work your way down you don’t get to A positive plus until you hit Tristan Thomson all right so that just tells you how drastically different these two teams were playing the magic using their physicality was always going to be the thing that took them over the edge in this series the Cavs do not have the size they’re not a team that really likes to play physical like that they’re more of an offensive Powerhouse but when you have the size you use it to your advantage and this is the result of that yeah we talked about that third quarter really being the difference in this game and we were talking before the break about we thought this one was going to be close until that third quarter sort of unraveled the way it did the Magic in the second half outscored the Cavs 61-29 they held the Cavs to just 10 points in the third quarter so good news for the magic Ashley but when you look at these numbers especially for the Cavaliers here they obviously are going to have to go back to the drawing board when they go back to Cleveland on Tuesday but uh what was not working for Cleveland one I think that they relied too much on the three ball I think that what happens is and this is the famous saying you live by the three you die by the three you have to go ahead and be more crafty you have to be more physical you have to go ahead and also not turn the ball over and if you’re going to go ahead and turn the ball over and the other team you’re facing happens to also be turning the ball over you have to capitalize on their opportunities and if you look at this game really the only the magic we’re capitalizing off the turn turns and they had a lot of them but they were capitalizing off of the Cavs turnovers the Cavs weren’t capitalizing off of theirs that’s a huge difference maker I think also I mean Donovan Mitchell has to be better he has to do better at what he does well and I think that ultimately the energy has shifted in the Magic’s Direction I mean if you look at this the Cavs have lost by 61 points total over these last two games that’s an astonishing number for a team that’s usually a offensive Powerhouse when it comes to the duo of Garland and Mitchell and they have been unable to play four quarters of continuity basketball whereas the magic have been flourishing at that if you look at that ball movement if you look at the way they’re playing as a team it’s just a drastic contrast in what the Cavs have been doing the adjustments are there the adjustments are possible but I don’t know it just looks like this Cavs team the life has been sucked out of them I had the Magic in this series when we previewed the series on Beyond The Ark I’m sticking with the magic the Cavs just don’t don’t seem to be on the same page as a team for four quarters you mentioned the two games being over 60 points in terms of losses there for the Cavs to add a little bit more perspective on how poorly they played today that third quarter their 27o differential they’re the worst of any quarter in a playoff game in Cavs history so to your point it just feels like they’re running out of juice here now the series of course shifts back to Cleveland so maybe getting back home sleeping in your bed maybe that wakes them up a little bit there I’m going to put you on the spot and get your way too early prediction here because now that we’ve seen what the magic can do when they play the right way they can put up big results here so what’s your prediction here uh headed back to Cleveland on Tuesday in game five I think Cleveland handles business on their homec Court game five I had magic in seven when we previewed this series on the Pod I’m sticking with that prediction I just think that the Cs are not a consistent team enough of a consistent team to go ahead win the games they need to win to close out this series you get drastically different versions of them night in and night out some days D Darius um Garland is on some days Donovan Mitchell’s on some days they’re on together some days it’s just a quarter some days it’s just a half you can’t win like First Blood first my demon bloodlust is tingling an enemy has been defeated [Music] your team has destroyed a tower [Music] men break too easily not fun at all free an enemy has been defeated an ally has been defeated [Music] [Music] your tower has been destroyed my demon bloodlust is you have been defeated our base is under attack [Music] [Music] an enemy has been defeated a an enemy has been defeated V so for First Blood an enemy has been defeated an enemy has been defeated your team has destroyed a tower ultimate an enemy has been defeated you’re already C an ally has been defeated onl chaste you have defeated an enemy victory [Music] [Music]
