where you’re just ranting about Micah Parson yeah the so-called dog yeah today Mel Parsons gets the Dak Prescott treatment from one Joe reinagle and dak’s so happy you know he gets a day off yeah maybe you know who might get a permanent day off from this here facility Alex from our sales department ah this guy’s a freaking idiot pledge will you look down the hall and make sure Alex is listening right now real quick before I get into this story because Alex who is a single guy yeah is making life miserable for a lot of people did he leave the building well just for one person actually well I I mean look I feel bad for her husband but the rest of us in the building have heard about it all day because Alex tells our boss today that she looks puffy puffy puffy what kind of idiot what tell a lady that she looks puffy um I I I just wish I would have seen the look on Morgan’s face when she was told she looks puffy now Morgan is far from puffy no Morgan is um Very ptite Yes uh I’m thinking of BW that aren’t puffy um but you look puffy today puffy who in the hell says that how ises that come across anybody’s mind let alone a dude a single dude to a female who happens to be your boss I I I don’t know and now if you you say you look puffy does that mean you look fat does that mean you’re little I don’t are you bloated like do you just need to go fart somewhere I mean what does that mean what puffy is Puffy but puffy puffy was that Alex walking by no it wasn’t couple of puffy dudes though walking by well see and again puffy is not who says that nobody right like Joe you’re looking puffy today well and and I would probably agree with you well but I would never even come up with you look puffy what kind of what kind of idiot not to a lady now I can say it to you you look like crap today um what happened and I’d be okay with that Fred is asking if he is Puffy um maybe puffy is good in his world I’m not fat I’m puffy puffy puffy I I don’t know it’s not a compliment or an insult that I think I’ve ever heard before and maybe that’s why Morgan is taken aback by it she still upset she’s still upset uh hours later she was she was just going to get uh something out of the uh kitchen here and decided that she’s just going to chew on ice because you know God forbid should she eat her kids got a birthday party this weekend and her husband was like whose ass do I need to kick because you know I got nothing but hot dogs and hamburgers and cupcakes and stuff for a kids party and you’re not going to eat a thing now because some dude called you puffy you better get a salad no dressing you can you imagine if if Morgan would have gone down to the uh vending machine there and Alex walks by and sees her getting a I don’t know a granola bar ohh a granola bar when there’s a Reese’s cup available Reese’s cup there’s La potato chips make you puffy apparently too much salt well and again Alex is single he doesn’t understand the ramifications I mean he is old enough to know better you know it’s like when your wife says do I look fat in this the answer’s always no no you look no no fantastic Huffy can you imagine telling your wife she looks puffy I like sex no I would never ever never are you kidding I mean I mean puffy honey you look a little puffy today yeah a little puffy I mean you’re a single guy have you ever called a woman puffy no right even if you didn’t like the woman you wouldn’t say puppy but Alex he’s a nice guy he was probably meant it by are you okay you’re looking a little puffy no no no I don’t think that’s his boss for how do you defend that how do you I I I mean and Alex is not at his desk that he’ leave the building he must have I would have after that I well see here’s the thing he still has a job here’s the I I would love to know if you’re watching on YouTube or driving around or or on Twitter or whatever the case may be just what would your reaction be to be calling if somebody called you puffy puffy wow puffy I I’m just um and I don’t know if I’m more stunned because most things don’t get to Morgan I mean she’s a very happy person well and and and I say this in in a way and you get this she’s one of the dudes right I mean she gives it she takes it you know um puffy puffy puffy that bothered her um and it still bothers her I don’t know when that happened what time of day that happened but at two o’ a little before two I walked in with some brisket sandwiches from the barbecue station and I was hearing about it she she didn’t eat one I oh no are you kidding she’s having ice for lunch ice ice see now I do I feel bad for her husband because you know what he’s going to hear all night tonight oh he’s me he’s done yeah apparently he called about something completely off subject as she was in her uh puffy rage yeah and oh that’s not that rage is not going away anytime soon oh no so I feel bad for that dude on a Friday night uh that that’s gonna be the conversation yeah I I mean this this will impact Cole in more ways AB than Alex will ever understand puffy um that’s interesting the fact and the comments on YouTube turned into Puffy Tacos uh um yeah you’re we do need to hear from ladies today absolutely I want to hear from ladies if you were called puffy a what would your reaction be and um I’m not even sure what’s safe to ask I I just want to know I just know you just stay away you ju you just stay away no I would I would like to know this is a a safe place so um yes it is and and and and we’re two puffy dudes we’re good with that well I’m fine I you know I get I puffy eyes I I the older I get the puffier they get I somebody said hey you’re a little puffy I wouldn’t take that but I’m not a woman either well I think there’s a difference I I I I know but you’re a vain television dude but that spent 25 years and spend thousands of dollars on your hair every month well I’m puffy and I’ve gotten puffier in the two and a half years I’ve been here welcome to radio my friend where we’re all puffy exactly yes all right but but again you look at it and you sit there I mean you know especially if you’re feeling good about yourself and somebody drops in you’re looking puffy I mean you know if you haven’t slept and you’re dealing with allergies that’s one thing right but somebody walks in and you look puffy it’s Friday you’re in a good mood feeling okay I mean you might want to mix in a sit up and a salad because you’re starting to look puffy I you you see what I mean there there’s a difference D I tell you what that’s uh boy that’s a r oh and he has no idea no clue no idea that’s probably why he ran out of the building that he uh that every guy and I say every guy I know Morgan has talked to you and I about it uh Lance I mean I you know I don’t know what other guys pledge apparently didn’t get caught up in in any of the puffy talk with Morgan but we get to go home though and it’s the last we’re gonna hear about it yeah Cole’s a guy I feel bad for and her kids too will probably hear all about it that that that uh yeah Cole if you were going to have marshmallows um what other kind of puppy candies are out there that you might have at a at a kid at a kid’s birthday party sure there’s going to be a big chocolate cake yeah you know I mean it’s a birthday party it’s a birthday party but anything that’s kind of puffy like you get rid of all that this weekend now uh Myra Lopez on our YouTube channel says she decked the guy Myra is a smart woman yeah but I think Morgan was I mean it’s you don’t ever hear something or somebody says something to you and you’re like wait a minute did did you what and you’re kind of stunned for a minute so you might it might take a few seconds before you actually realize you want to Deck the dude she’s in management he is not I I don’t know I mean there there’s all kinds of things here now Joey Fernandez says on our YouTube channel puppy isn’t a compliment it’s when you look fat within your skin it’s like when you eat like garbage for a few days and you look at yourself and realize you need to go to the gym so is Alex telling Morgan she needs to go to the gym apparently that’s according to Joey Fernandez that’s exactly what he’s telling her Fred wants to know would fluffy be better than puffy I don’t think fluffy no it’s the same yeah think about the comedian if he were a a fluffy or puffy either way it’s the same thing and you look at that guy and yeah yeah it wouldn’t be a compliment yeah we’ve got some jet puffed pictures over here of marshmallows dude I think we should all come in here Monday morning with a bag of marshmallows for Morgan I I think that’s a really bad idea Jim I think that’s a great idea Jim you know what we need to do we need to text that to AJ Hoffman and Rob Thompson and let them have a s’mores party and and I think that they maybe are are completely unaware of what’s going on and they would think it’s funny and a part of some office bonding thing with the new guy and they would just be set up for failure you know because we’re playing golf tomorrow you know that that little solo s uh stove deal I got from the the Cowboys party perfect for s’mores I’ll I’ll give that to Rob on Saturday indoors right you could yeah sure I mean we you know we’ve got two Courtyards and you know after being called puffy Morgan might want to burn the place down so I mean you you know but we could just have a a smores uh party here I wish I knew somebody that could run out right now and get a bag of marshmallows all right somebody somebody bring us some marshmallows before Morgan leaves for the day if somebody can get some marshmallows to us the the big puffy kind the big puffy ones within the next hour or so because it is Friday and she is in management so I me I can’t believe they’re still already in the building I mean normally Friday you go to lunch and we don’t we’ll see you Tuesday but um I kid um I don’t know you don’t you know random we’ve got some guests coming in studio right yes uh the band at nothing more Mark uh is coming in how random would it be if I just texted Mark and said hey can on your way in can you grab a bag one next Thursday a lot of rest and a lot of talking up game one between now and then I feel bad for Boston oh you feel bad for Boston I feel bad for them why do you feel bad for Boston the best player in the NBA is coming to town you know what he is um Luca right now especially last night his first quarter uh Luca was incredible last night he set the tone uh didn’t he outscore Minnesota by himself in the first quarter yeah I believe well I know he had 20 plus right he had 20 in the first quarter at one time I think he had 10 of the Maverick’s first 12 he he came out on fire um it wasn’t even a game 124 103 was the final and it wasn’t that close close the uh Timberwolves biggest lead in that game was two there was one lead change minut uh the Maverick’s biggest lead was 36 and it felt like it was more than that that it should have been I mean at one point I was like they’re going to win this thing by 50 Luca just couldn’t miss and when that guy’s in a Zone like he was and we talked about it yesterday we knew these guys were gonna come out and play well after they had a subpar game uh in game four and and I just I tell you what I love watching that guy play ball because you know it’s almost like watching a a kid he’s just having fun and it’s and I love watching that and he just throws stuff up it goes in and it’s just it’s it’s awesome you look at a game like that where Luca comes out he’s on fire and Jason kid basically said it man everybody just followed his lead yeah I thought you talk about our lead ERS um Luca uh came out and and set the tone uh offensively and defensively I thought he was going to he let everybody know he was ready ready to play uh I thought we followed his lead I thought again for a half uh we played at a high level and in the in the third quarter I thought we contined to play there and we continue to keep our lead and I thought again uh Luca um was be he was able to be aggressive and then Kai joined the party and when those two are going again for them to U come back after maybe a not a game four those two at a high level and and They carried us tonight there’s no doubt about it again he said it you said it Lucas set the tone last night because he just came out on fire and it it’s almost like you see a guy and and the beauty of sports when you see a guy that’s locked in and you know he’s locked in I mean from the get-go that was Luca last night I mean he was just locked in and nobody was going to tell this guy or shut him down it was just a fantastic performance and and Kyrie getting back to the NBA finals and he is such a different player Y and I know we’ve talked about this a lot during this Mavericks postseason run he is such a different player than he was when he played in Boston yeah such a different player than he was in Brooklyn and last year when the trade was made it didn’t work but those two have figured out how to play together and what you have seen is Kyrie accepting Luca yep is the team leader you know and if they’re going to win the NBA Finals Luca has to be the best player at least four nights out of a seven game series Kyrie needs to contribute but he doesn’t have to be the best player and kind of Jason kid Luca set the tone and Kai joined the party right um did and and even though they both finished with 36 points it kind of felt like if you didn’t have Luca the MAV aren’t going to have a chance and they’re going to have to do that against Boston and then you look at the role players with Boston and we get a whole week to talk about it but I know with what you saw from the Mavericks last night Boston look out between Tatum uh between uh Brown role players like a Derek white or a lively I mean you got to figure out which one is going to set up and I love the kind of new blood Jason Tatum Luca you know you got these young leaders that both have their teams in the NBA finals and they’re both going to have to play well and for Jason Tatum probably more pressure on him than on Luca oh there’s no doubt there’s more pressure on Tatum than there is on Luca I mean Luca this his first trip to the finals Tatum’s been there before and and come up short so I think there’s a lot more pressure on Tatum than there is and a lot more pressure on Boston period yes overall than there is on Dallas but look I and and we’re we talk say this about a hundred times between now and game one on Thursday but the Mavericks are battle tested they are battle tested man and I think that that makes a huge difference and they’re going to get an opportunity to rest regroup uh and and Boston just kind of you know the weak Eastern Conference just kind of you know walk through roses getting to the finals no no problem and the Mavericks are battle tested I think it’s going to make a huge difference when you look at the road to the NBA finals it was such a tougher road for the Mavericks no doubt uh what are they the third team to get to the finals by beating 50 win teams to get there in every round uh underdogs I mean and they’re playing their best basketball right now they are they’re getting better uh to steal a line from my good friend Joe reinagle Boston lucky because everybody they played dealt with some injuries yes um reasons or excuses they’re there although Boston I don’t trust them haven’t trusted them but they were the best team in the Eastern Conference all year and I know you’re going to say the Eastern Conference is weaker and all that kind of stuff they might have been fourth in the west but they’re still a hell of a basketball team and they’ve made it to the finals with a coach that I’m not sure about with a superstar that hasn’t gotten it done in the postseason in the big moments but then they’ve got a guy like Jaylen Brown who can get it done you know guys like Derek white there’s other other players on that Boston team yet despite all that there they are in the NBA finals and they got there by sweeping a very good Indiana team and you could say Indiana gave that series away but they did bottom line though is the Boston Celtics won four straight in that series I think it’s going to be a great finals uh and we get a week to make predictions but it’s hard to bet against the Dallas Mavericks right now the way they’re playing they’re backourt now look they’re gonna need some help Lively coming back yesterday made made a it gives him an extra option for sure look you sit here and look at the lineup Boston overall is a better team they are but are just because it looks better on paper doesn’t mean that they will play better than Dallas once they get on the floor and look they’re going to try and make Luca work they’re going to try to wear him down a little bit um I just don’t think it’s going to matter he’s he’s in a zone right now and everybody’s going to point to the fact that Boston won two games in the regular season who gives a damn it doesn’t matter what happened in the regular season it really doesn’t at this point it does not matter and I heard Steve Levy on the greeny show today with whoever was hosting it and he used an analogy that I thought was perfect while he was talking hockey I think it works for basketball as well and he said the postseason is such a different animal yep and he’s like you know one of the things I don’t like about producers is they want to pull up all these regular season matchup stats that don’t mean a damn thing when you get to the playoffs now he was talking hockey because the New York Rangers are facing elimination after losing to Florida last night and by the way basketball got so bad that was one hell of a hockey game for those of you that tuned over to watch it well you you’re the only one so did pledge um but he’s right I mean the Rangers were the best team in the regular season but now they’re in the postseason matchups and the different things that are in play that’s what matters regular season that was so long ago it doesn’t matter does not it’s what’s happening right now and right now while Boston might have been the best team all regular season Dallas looks like the best team left in the postseason although there’s only two to choose from look when well they certainly have the best player there there’s no question Luca is the best player going into this finals that’s not debatable and if anybody wants to try you’re welcome come on bring it bring it bring it on yeah but it’s it’s going to be fun it should be fun um but man I tell you what when Luca when they just spank Minnesota last night in front of their home crowd that’s a statement I don’t care what you want to say about anything you go into somebody else’s house and just pull their pants down and spank their little heiny like like Dallas did to Minnesota no that’s a statement no minnes to spank Phoenix and they didn’t they beat Denver in an elimination game by a thousand I mean there there was a lot of spanking in that series and then it was it was it was Minnesota’s turn uh to to get that so what are you saying it’s Dallas’s turn to get a Spanky I I’m just saying that yeah they made a statement last night Minnesota made statements until they didn’t and so that’s why I think is going to be fun there’s going to be a lot of time off so one of the things I’m thankful for although I was hoping for more basketball both teams are going to be well rested absolutely yes Boston gets a couple more days it doesn’t matter your NBA players you get a week off you’re going to be fine it’s not like there’s only two or three days between the end of the Conference Finals and the NBA finals for Dallas this is a series of no excuses you know Boston should be healthy um the Mavericks should be healthy when this thing gets started Luca is going to have a week off liely is going to have plenty of bad Bill between now and then he got hit in the head again last night um you know porzingis should be back you get to the finals both teams seemingly healthy that’s all you can ask for as a sports fan let’s go I I don’t know about porzingis I saw ESPN today with a headline his status for game one still up in the air so I don’t know how that’s gamesmanship Joe I guess that’s Boston saying well that’s great who gives just play we’re going to bring that they won’t game plan for him at all because they’re idiots over there they we’re just going to he’s going to jump out of a cake and he’s going to be there and be able to play bring him yeah bring him yeah let’s go just stay away from the cake Luca you don’t need to show up for game one Huffy well and and the beer too apparently yeah Michael Finley take that beer away from him last dad why would you take the beer dad that was hilarious and the fact that if you guys didn’t see the video locker room after the game Luca sitting there holding a beer here and Michael Finley just walks up and grabs it from him there was no fight that wasn’t like a tug like no this is my beer it was like you caught me I’m grounded I don’t understand well they don’t want Luca to get puffy before the NBA Finals you don’t ever want to be puffy although he’s a little puffy as it is he can’t get puffier before the NBA Finals I mean he’s at a at a playing puffiness at this point yeah but he is two beers and a cup take away from being out of playing puffiness I just can’t wait for the Pillsbury Doughboy to area we’ve heard so much about and apparently Graham Weston and and his company under a variety of of of other companies that are all tied in have been buying all kinds of land in that area including Fox Tech I guess in agreement with the SA SD this all from the uh the express news and their sources now uh we reached out to the missions and yeah clearly they’re not talking um but at least there’s progress being made and whether this actually ends up being the site of the New Missions ballpark or not because there’s also been a number of reports that somehow they’ll be tied into to the project where the new Spurs arena is likely going to go which is The Institute for Tex and cultures that that site what I like is we’re seeing progress being made we know with the ownership group that they put together that there will be a new ballpark somewhere downtown yeah I I can’t see it being near the arena where the Spurs are going to play I just don’t think there’s enough room for them to do all put two ballparks in that little space well the only reason why I I wonder and and Grant it knowing the group that is a part of the missions now both sites one of the sites however they’re able to make it happen and I and I’ll disagree with you I do think there is room for two at the Texan cultures well it’s going to be more than just that because there’s going to be the entertainment districts that and two two stadiums and two stadiums you’re dreaming um what are they gonna tear down the Hyatt and then they tear down the convention center and not not the hior the convention center those are there but there’s things around there that could go byebye I I I mean I I could see that now now parking and all that other stuff who who knows who needs parking well I mean they built an Alamo doome and didn’t factor in parking yet they make it work so I I I mean but when you look at the space that they’re putting together knowing the groups that are involved there’s going to be an Entertainment District sure at one or both of them and when I say Entertainment District restaurants bars things to do outside of the games I like seeing the the progress being made and all this money for land at the very least looks private um or land swaps with school districts and different things like that a bunch of stuff that is above most of our pay grades but progress seemingly being made and that Fox Tech site has been talked about for a long time and if you were able to take that like if you go go to Pinkerton and you think about where the frost Tower is yeah and and as you’re leaving that area you could see that being the next part of downtown area getting built up that isn’t Riverwalk stuff uh so I I I I could see this you know in the next several years being The Happening spot you know just kind of down from the Pearl and and all that kind of stuff and making it happen well I hope uh nobody listening is living in the soap Factory Apartments because if you are you I want to start looking around I mean your lease is going to not be renewed probably not but I like this site here it doesn’t have to be next to the Spurs Arena doesn’t have to it’s downtown it’s not that far away you could I mean it’s it’s still downtown which is the main thing and I like this spot I think it would be good then you could really build up the uh where the Spurs new arena is going to go and and you could even build this up a little bit put bars and restaurants around that too I just think this is a great spot don’t try to squeeze things into one little area let’s you there’s plenty of room down there you can get it done well you talk about there’s plenty of room you say there’s no room over there but over here hey if you live in that soap Factory apartment complex you’re screwed they’re going to knock it down they are and things sometimes have to go away to get new they do and and I and I’m fine with that I don’t know what’s better having them in the same area where you could share parking and Facilities you go to certain cities and there are things that are kind of buil all together and they make it work and shared parking and you know it it works here it’s downtown San Antonio parking is still kind of going to be shared I look at this site and my first thought is well if they build it there I am more than likely to go to a lot more missions games without a doubt than I am now yes um I think a lot of people would well and and that that that’s the question if it’s downtown you know because I know there’s people oh build it on the northwest side oh Build It Out by that yeah you know we all want it like within 10 minutes of where we live of course but you know we get off work at six o’clock and it would still be I don’t know that we could get off work and get to a missions game before first pitch at 7even if we tried to go during the week we’d be cutting it close maybe depending on traffic maybe getting to that place be there in 15 minute yeah easy it would be no problem at all I I like that and I like the idea of that and um let’s get it done let’s do it make downtown San Antonio what it should be a sports Mecca idea I’m all I’m all for it I’m also and I know I’ve had various conversations will it be a multiuse facility like would the new ballpark be able to host concerts uh because San Antonio does lack that midsize venue that like the Cynthia Woods Pavilion in in H Houston The Woodlands or you know like last night hoodie and the Blowfish and Collective Soul were playing at The doeki Pavilion up in uh Dallas we don’t have that kind of size venue here you know I know we’ve got techport it’s it’s not quite big enough for a show like what hoody was doing AT&T Center too big you know that that you know we used to have it with the uh Ampitheater but I know they tried doing a couple shows out there like we went and saw um Chicken Fried guy out there but uh what What’s his name um now that you put me on the spot um I’ll think of it back to others that that go to the Super Bowl that are associated with the Super Bowl that you would lose by taking it to London all of that is valid but I’m going to sound like a real arrogant American there you go this is an American thing all right it should not be played anywhere except America I mean it shouldn’t be played in London shouldn’t be played in Germany it shouldn’t be played anywhere else except except some city in the United States of America it’s an American event yep and it should stay here so screw the money I don’t care about it it should stay in the United States it it it should long off season it’s already been a long off season for the Dallas Cowboys but two contracts and then Mike is third getting a lot of talk so and Joel Corey who’s a former agent now writes for CBS Sports always great Insight in his articles had one yesterday about how the Cowboys missed initially with daak so what are they going to do now so we reached out to Joel if he could come on and explain and Joel Cory joining us now on the buyers barricades guest line Joel how’s your Friday how going great how about yours doing well it’s it’s Friday and you know I I and other than my gut feeling knowing how Jerry Jones likes to get deals done I think we be out in Oxnard it will be August training camp right around dak’s birthday and he will get a deal done with Dak Prescott just gut feeling J likes to get deals done at training camp but I think about like reading your article yesterday at CBS sports.com what if they decide to let him play it out uh what are the options that Jerry Jones truly has right now knowing that Dak has all the leverage well if he plays it out he better hope that um Trey Lance is taking a huge step forward or be ready to find a new quarterback in 2025 through the grph or maybe someone is free because you can’t put a franchise tag on Dak Prescott he has no trade cause so if you want to get rid of him this year and youve restructured the contract on multiple occasions so if the those dummy voting years do actually come to fruition you’re going to have a $40.46 million cap hit for Dak Prescott to play elsewhere in 2025 so Joel if you were if you were dak’s agent obviously Dak has all the leverage you just mentioned it right there we’ve been talking about it for a while what would you what would you advise him would you advise him just to hey let’s go take our chances on the free agent Market the heck with this place or or really hold Jerry’s feet to the fire um one hold Jerry’s feet to the fire and whether that means you have to uh test open market next year [Music] that you have to also remember that as an agent you work for the player and it’s your job to execute the client’s wishes um back in one point several weeks ago said that he didn’t necessarily have to be the highest paid player in the league I suspect Todd France talked to him about that and that’s how you kind of got the response last week I don’t play for money which is disingenuous and then the second part is I have business people to handle the contract stuff but um if you had a client like Mike McCartney had uh with Kirk Cousins then basically youd have free reign to do whatever you want because cousins was they didn’t really engage because they didn’t like the direction where things were going the second franchise tag so had a client who said do whatever you want I want my money whether it’s here or there then you could play extreme hard ball tell Jerry this is the number if you can’t do it somebody else will do it next year and that is so true and as we visit with Joel Corey and you understand that you know here in San Antonio and Jerry Jones has said this on this show a couple of times that more Cowboy fans in San Antonio in South Texas per capita than in Dallas right and you know the comments we get you know Dak sucks all this kind of stuff um DX second in MVP voting coming off an incredible season but how much does his playoff record which hasn’t been good the fact that he hasn’t gotten him to an NFC Championship game let alone to a Super Bowl how much does that factor in in negotiations versus he’s next in line and this is what the market is yeah it’s gonna I can see how Dallas is going to bring it up the agent’s going to dismiss it and point back to the regular season um you don’t get become the highest paid player based on what you do in the playoffs unless your name is Joe flacko Joe flacko did not have a body of work years ago to Warrant being the highest paid player but had a play out of his mind for four games Ravens wion a Super Bowl he becomes the highest paid player um cousins he has a worst playoff record in Dak and he at one time was the highest paid player Justin harber hadn’t been in the league that long had won a playoff game he became the highest paid player when he signed last year Lamar Jackson when he became the highest paid player having a hard time winning playoff games that was that preceded her so it doesn’t necessarily factor into the equation whether you have a lot of playoff success well Joel let me ask you this because it seems like the the Cowboys at least coach McCarthy Jerry Jones a bunch of the assistant coaches are really trying to sell Trey Lance I mean Mike McCarthy yesterday said that he’s just about mastered the offense are they doing that for a reason are they trying to get a little leverage back maybe from Dak Prescott by saying those things no um part of it’s PR so in case D leaves something goes wrong they don’t get an extension done he’s maybe he’s waiting in the wings yeah they’re going to try to use it to think they can create leverage but that’s going to go in one year and out the other for Dax Camp um he’s an unknown commodity we don’t know whether he can play or not and he probably would have gotten benched if he stayed healthy the way he was playing in San Francisco because K shanon would have lost a lot room from what I saw before he got hurt if he hadn’t gone back to Jimmy garoo then BR py comes in and the rest his history and he shipped out Joel Cory joining us here on the blitz on 941 at San Antonio sports star former agent contract salary cap expert when you hear Jerry or Stephen and we had will mlay on not long ago right after the draft talk about the they they they’re using an analogy right now about credit cards and and payments due and that explains the Cowboys inactivity this offseason and bringing in free agents um so when you think about from a salary cap perspective and as you study the numbers for the Dallas Cowboys is there truth in what they’re telling us that they’re really that strapped right now with forecasting deals for Dak and Micah Parsons and CD lamb that they really couldn’t do much this off season well Dallas hasn’t been a major player in free agency for about a decade I think the last time they made a Big Splash in free agency was Brandon Carr now was a long time ago so every year free agency starts Dallas is never out there the first couple of days um when it’s a sellers Market when they do sign guys they wait till it’s a buyer’s market so it doesn’t surprise me that they didn’t do anything but the easiest way to have created Capo was the significantly lower Dax cap number which going into the off season was 59.4 five5 Million it’s now 55.4 for5 million because of a small contract restructure I know Stephen Jones said the cap a couple of weeks ago prevented major free agent signings but they kick the can down the road with the best of them so they reject they restructured dax’s contract I think four times now so whenever a front office says the cap is an excuse that’s being disingenuous I’ll give you an example um just this off seon Derrik Henry signed for 16 million over two years he did a two-year deal but um you got a $ 7.79 million signing bonus let’s say you given him same to you deal he got from the Ravens and you stuck three voting dummy years on the contract he can had a first year CH number 2.76 eight million uh Ezekiel ell on the oneye deal has a $2 million cap number so an extra $768 million $768,000 on the cap this year I’m not talking about the cash because the cash is significantly different uh you can add garyk Henry so that type of excuse falls on depth ears when whenever a GM blames the cap for something or or a front office executive and particularly a team that does take a credit card approach mentality to the cap they’re not as Extreme as the Eagles or the Saints but they do restructure a whole lot of contracts in Dallas you know Joel and and and saying that and obviously on this show we talked about Derk Henry and and what the Cowboys should have done and would have solved a lot of their problems quite frankly running game wise and and would would have solved a lot of problems why do you think the Cowboys are in this situation that they’re in right now I know typically they do this they push it down but I don’t think they have as good a team now as they did the team that got beat by Green Bay not too long ago no they don’t um because they had some guys that you naturally were probably going to let go because they got a tremendous deal with Tyron Smith because he signed an eight-year extension with two years left on his rookie contract said he was under the contract for 10 years he ended up playing through the contract they end up giving a pay cut last year but that was a 13 million a year the Tacko Market jumped dramatically so even when he was injured which was basically the latter half of that contract he was still a great value because for some inexplicable reason he did a long deal like that so Dallas has drafted fairly well so if you can get the offensive lineman to uh come in and replace these guys you’re going to be in a pretty pretty decent shape from that regard but that remains to be seen um hopefully you’re gonna have Diggs back and he’s gonna come back and be the player he was coming off the knee injury um I’m not sure about your linebackers right now um Vander um basically had car injury so that’s a concern we’ll see how much Mike Zimmer’s uh change in the defensive scheme um helps things along as well but nobody’s repeated as the NFC East Division winner in forever so if you have to go of History I wouldn’t bet on the Cowboys winning the division yeah I don’t think most people listening to you right now would either the frustration amongst Cowboy fans is there and a lot of it is pointing at the front office now you know I want to give Jerry Jones and Steven Jones credit the 12 regular season wins the last three years you can’t completely disregard that even though they haven’t had playoff success last year I thought they put a team that was a roster together that was capable of of winning a Super Bowl and obviously they come up short I see what they’re doing this off season and I can’t decide all of a sudden did they become a well-run organization that turned bad or they were a poor run organization that tripped into some good luck as a former agent when you used to have to deal with the Cowboys do you look at them and put them in the category of one of those well-run organizations or you know every time you’re dealing with them Jerry’s going to want long deals your players are going to want short deals and you know you’re going to need a bottle of AD Bill to get a deal done yeah they’re kind of frustrating to deal with particularly from leak the contract and that was big sticking point with Dak initially um wanting a fiveyear deal so that’s how he ended up playing on the franchise tag and ended up with the foure deal a four-year deal um where he where you can’t stick a franchise tag on him this time around so yeah they could be exasperating but um the when you did get a deal done it was going to be a fair deal but getting there could be part of the issue Joel Le let’s talk about CD lamb because as Dak has all the leverage uh over the Cowboys CD seemingly doesn’t have as much certainly because he’s got another year left and he can be franchise tagged what do you think the Cowboys are are doing when it comes to CD lamb well I don’t fault them for not getting this deal done earlier um some people said they should have done it last year well on average three first round picks who have their fifth year option exercise get done in a given year so I don’t fault them for not getting it done last year and I won’t fault them for Mah Parson’s not getting done this year for that same reason although we’ve seen um more more guys than usual who just became eligible um for extensions as first round picks get done so far this year now CD Lamb’s no dummy he knows that Justin Jefferson if that deal gets done potentially could make him the highest paid non-quarterback in the NFL currently that’s Nick Bosa at 34 million per year he has no incentive to go before Justin Jefferson gets done if that thing gets done before the start of training camp now what we weren’t expecting which I think is GNA be the big sticking point and it’s not what happened with Jaylen Wadd it was the AJ Brown extension with three years left on his deal in response to them doing Devonte Smith early that’s at 32 million per year that was the deal which makes the CD lamb um contract more complicated to me and also Dak having to no franchise tag clause in his contract means that CD lamb is The Logical candidate to get franchised because Dak didn’t have that they’d have more of a pressure to get CD done because they could always go you know we could s a franchise tag on and and go from there which CD would eight it’s going to be interesting to see if shows up for the for the mandatory mini camp you know and and you you mentioned CD and he hadn’t showed up for the voluntary part Micah didn’t either as an agent when you get a player like Micah Parsons who is a great player wants to be a team leader is it important for him to be at these voluntary workouts how did you use to advise your clients it depended on who the client was um for most players there’s uh two words in parentheses for voluntary and that’s in but the better player you are the more latitude you have not to go to voluntary stuff um I know Mike has done this in the past where he skipped the first part of the workout program doing his own thing um maybe this year because you have a change in coordinator it would have been a little more of a necessity for them to be for him to be there but I’ll say this that um Aaron Donald held out after his third year missed all the training camp didn’t get a contract one defensive player of the year then held out again till the regular season almost the start of the regular season finally got paid one defensive player of the year so obviously if you’re that good of a player you don’t really need training camp and need to be there for the off season true fair enough Joel Cory former agent contract freaking came it was amazing and it did rain and whatnot and we flew Eric from my Prevail down too uh for the the song house on Sand to make it special Hometown show even though we aren’t from Austin Austin’s like I mean you guys know true you’re playing in Texas you’re getting it done now now if I remember right because it was raining I I I’ve got to give you some crap because I saw the video of you taking a pretty good spill in Austin but you had another show where where uh you you hurt yourself falling on stage but I’ve yet to see in a video of a massive fall uh you’re getting to old men balance an issue what’s going on I mean it happens it’s no Dave Gro I didn’t walk off the stage break my leg but hopefully that doesn’t happen um you know Falls happen to the best of us yeah my my hands still healing there’s like uh I really took some chunks out of my skin uh we’re in Raleigh uh North Carolina and I just it was a smaller shallow stage it was really wide but normally I’m not used to watching out for the drum Riser I just took a step back and totally ate it and like fell on my guitar broke the pickup selector and like my my left hand caught caught me but like it skied across the stage Blood on the stage there you go did you miss a beat though did you keep going I was actually playing drums at the time of like there’s this at the end of the set like Dan and I our bass player we both go go and play some drums for a bit so everybody on stage is playing drums it’s like a finale type of thing so um yeah did I miss a beat ah it was it was it was okay I was all right they didn’t really need me I’m just for show I easy drum Parts you know you know Mark I’m I’m curious because you know we see you guys on stage we we listen to your music on however you listen to it what is it like when you guys decide hey we need some new music we’ve got to go write some music how does that come out that’s fascinating to me man because I can’t think of what happened two minutes ago much less figure out how to write songs well I mean a lot of the times it’s inspiration comes when it comes and sometimes that’s the way you know it’s like you’re having a dream you wake up in the middle of night oh that’s a great line I’m gonna write this down you know I actually had that happen to me kind of like when when I found out I was going to be a father and we have a song called fade in fade out and it’s it’s about my son and it’s like a kind the cycle of the phoenix the handing of the torch the Legacy and everything from one generation to another and that was in the middle of the night you know while my wife’s pregnant it’s just like I got this like this Crossfade idea how can I make this into a song and and it it did and then other times it’s just oh let’s just have Jam room time let’s focus on riding some good riffs and see what happens from there sometimes it’s like let’s just do a whole song with a producer and see how that goes for us basically it’s just kind of trying to keep things fresh different interesting so you don’t burn out because a lot of the times if you do start every song the same way it’s just it’s going to get stale and and you won’t you won’t keep that inspiration that excitement happening you know so that’s that’s fascinating to me man mark balunga from the band nothing more here in studio San Antonio base band although Mark you’re the only guy in the band that actually still lives here right everybody else left all right so you know I know you were on tour then not long ago you you guys went off and you were producing the new record how difficult is it now or is it difficult with zoom and Technology to write music and stay in touch with the band when you guys are not out on the road right it it is possible to you know file share a whole record and that’s actually our previous record Spirits that’s what pretty much the whole record was we all going through covid we all depart from each other so it was just sharing riffs sharing drum beats you know I’ll work on this you work on that let’s have a lyric writing session let’s work on Melody um but the thing that’s missing is the Synergy the Magic in the room that happens of like feeding off each other’s ideas it’s like I don’t know when you have this screen here there’s just it doesn’t quite happen in real time and it’s it’s hard to kind of make that stuff happen so with this record um we finally all got back together you know that we could breathe in the same room again and you know make some magic happen and uh it it is tough again we all live apart from each other but we we kind of have like we finally Outsource a producer and do that because we’ve been self-producing for almost our whole career I mean for the last 15 years so it was really cool and fresh to work with a producer again did did you notice and as as you guys have been playing and and and going higher on the ladder so to speak I mean did did it happen progressively or was it something that you you found out your popularity was an overnight thing or how did that work you know our story has been pretty gradual of just like little by little we’ll kind of gain Steam and this will happen we’ll meet this person who opens this door this this guy’s now part of our team the shows get bigger you sell more tickets your song does better oh Grammy nomination you do we do have little spikes but our story has kind of been a gradual one which honestly I’m thankful for because all the overnight success bands that you see it’s like they’re up and then they’re down and then they don’t know how to live with each other or tour or they make some horrible business decision because they’re not used to it or they don’t have the right people in their camp like really understanding what’s best for the band what’s best for them as people so I’m very grateful ours has been pretty gradual because we’ve been touring since 2005 so it’s it’s just about 20 years of touring now wow which is although accommodations on your tours now far better than they were back in the day now I at a out a curiosity because I mean everybody wants to be a headliner right and you’ve got a headlining show coming up but you also have opened for Godsmack and you’ve got some shows coming up with those guys again yeah in a bigger Arenas CU it’s it’s Godsmack do you do you like being the opener on a big big show like that or do you like being the headliner on a a smaller or playing smaller venues however you phrase that in the music industry yeah yeah you know I’m gonna be neutral here and I’m gonna say is good either way right that’s true but sometimes it is great to just like Hometown show head all right you know represent the home team and and all your friends or family there you’re closing the night out it’s a new bigger venue or whatever it is and it feels great and then other times it’s awesome to like man we we can’t sell out you know 15,000 20,000 seats or whatever and everybody’s here and this is a great opportunity for us you know it’s like we’re gonna kind of hit him with all the hits you know in and out and it’s like leave them wanting more type of thing play a shorter set play earlier before everybody’s ears are fatigued you know so it it depends um and but I will say playing a festival at night that’s special because all the lights you’re out outside other than how it affects your vocals which always sucks you always get dried out but it’s still really special to just be at be out at night uh you know playing outside that’s fun what’s it like though opening for a band like God Smack I mean is it that do you guys are you tight on time or you have to start and end at a certain time I mean is it is it tough to do that yes uh you know old school mentality I mean being professional in general is that’s how you should be this is your slot this is in the contract you know you start on time you end on time that’s it you know you there’s no reason you should be anything other than that um and and lots of times yeah we’ve totally gone over we’ve upset you know this stage manager that stage manager they’re yelling at us or you know vice versa I think the biggest thing to learn though is always okay how how has our experience been what do we want to do to the Next Generation and how do we want to treat them you know so we’re a little more lenient on certain things but I mean you should be professional and there’s so much technology these days it’s like you you should be able to time your set and and figure it out you know this this things happen stuff breaks you know technical difficulties this and that sometimes you go over and that’s okay but yeah as long it’s not much although to give you an idea though for if you’re playing nights at festivals yeah you you’ve come a long way as a band you know and I I because you know you go to different music festivals and there’s bands that are on at two or three or four when when your when your name is on the poster and I can read it without without looking you know you you you guys have hit a certain level and you guys are there now the new record uh comes out in what a month yeah yeah June 28th June 28th freaking pumped so a little less than a month yeah and then the tour starts yeah yeah we we have like uh we do a festival at the actually the very end of June capula Fest up in Connecticut then we’ll do another Fest in July over in Nevada plus a few shows with Godsmack and then right the the headline tour um in September along with some festivals that reminder of those years and that promise that we made to each other as well as just kind of pushing the message of don’t hide your scars um you know they really do make you who you are so yeah I just do that cut a sleeve off so you cut so is it you or or or your wife Sarah that has to fix every shirt that you won’t no no I wouldn’t make her do that do something else to support me no I I I cut them all off myself so really yeah absolutely you just get close to the seam and you just just go for it it’s not too hard you know after 10 shirts you get pretty good and I’ve done probably a thousand or more now say these big rock stars minut I figured you had those and and flown in from you know some fancy place somewhere are you kidding you go to this guy’s house it’s like a brewery youve got more you’ve got more beer in your house than most bars have some you brew yourself but you know in including Miller Light but you’ve got every beer out there at your place I mean what can I say I I do like beer I am a connoisseur and uh you know I my favorite thing to do is is have a bottle share everyone brings like a big bomber you know 25 5 O bottle or whatever and you know you have 10 friends that the soap Factory yeah um that whole area might be become part of where the new Mission stadium is according to an article today in the San Antonio Express News perfect spot for it I think and they didn’t buy those 19 Acres or whatever it is uh you know put up at Chili’s Ian so I think well they might now well there might be one around there but you know I think that’s probably the site which is nice and you’re GNA have the Spurs Arena downtown the missions downtown it’s gonna be great it is going to be let’s get it done and you know it’s interesting because what the the thing that I love about seeing this article today because everybody every time you ask about it you get n i mean there there’s lots of discussions but is there movement and this looks like there’s movement and a plan there’s been a lot of discussion will the new baseball stadium be built along kind of with the new Spurs Arena and I a lot of that discussion I think stems from the fact that you you know Peter Holt and Manu and David and a lot of Spurs connections are now involved with the San Antonio mission so could it be a joint progress or joint project uh as they progress through this because both Arena sites are going to have entertainment districts around them so it’s it two stadiums and one Entertainment District or two different areas now you think about the Institute of Tex and culture site and you wonder can you fit all of that there you can’t I imagine they’ll figure out ways man architects Engineers their Geniuses could this also mean is this site that’s being talked about right now purely for the missions could it also be a potential site for a basketball arena as well if they’re having hiccups in conversations about where the current site is for the Institute of Tex and cultures that’s a lot of land um that they’re talking about so could there actually be both on that side of downtown versus the I35 37 area near the Alamo do I hope not I’d prefer the Spurs Arena to be on the side because does it make a difference to you does why why because I just think it would fit better there and it looks better there and you got the Alamo Dome across the street yeah it’s perfect sure they’ll put it there all right put them both there no and put the missions over there on the west side of downtown then you got the whole downtown covered I you could but I I’m it could be both I I but I I have no problem with either if they’re split or together if what they do together makes sense because we all know parking is going to be a [ __ ] no matter what you do of course it downtown yes and it’s a walkable downtown e anywhere you go down there it won’t be ridiculous so I think you’re in good shape either way AG I just hope that this new Mission Stadium isn’t baseball only I also would like to see it be used when when possible for concerts and other types of events what’s going to be a 3A or 3A triaa sir Triple A that’s same thing Triple A Stadium right so it’s it’s going to be bigger than Wolf Stadium obviously so it should be I I would think so and maybe you’ve got your mediumsized place for uh for concerts that hoodie can come play in yes there you go many people that could care less about that than me believe me so Jerry might be upset by it yeah yeah he might be upset by it um I just uh yeah I don’t know I don’t find a lot of interest in in that whole thing I don’t know I guess some some people do uh I Pro I would have been a lot more interested if this was Mike Tyson 20 years ago fighting Jake Paul but right now I just I don’t know I just it’s tough for me to to care about I’m not a big fan of like professional wrestling either so that’s kind of where I sit on that I’m with you we don’t like the fake stuff all right uh Mike McCarthy said all the right things this week but certainly did seem frustrated that Micah Parsons was not at the voluntary workouts this week did you get that feeling sense when you were in the room with Mike McCarthy as I did listening to what he had to say about his absence oh yeah absolutely no question about it um yeah it’s one of those things where you know with CD lamb I think Mike McCarthy understands that it’s a contract thing that um he’s he wants to get you know he’s in the final year of his contract he understands it’s the business side of it that’s not the same deal with with mik Micah has this is the final year of that four year fourth year of his rookie deal but then they still have the fifth year option so technically Micah’s under contract for the next two seasons Micah’s not not going to the star because of contract reasons Micah just wants to do his own thing and and and do his own offseason workouts which she’s done in the past and as many have probably seen it includes a lot of boxing and a lot of you know a little different training than let’s say being around a team doing uh you know NFL things uh that you would you would typically do during OTAs and I think a a factor in this is is certainly that you have a new defensive coordinator implementing a different defense and when you’re the face of that defense you’re you’re one of the top probably two or three defensive players in the entire league this is a time of year where it’s probably best for you to be around the guys um because you are you know one of the faces of it if not the face of the team and so I I just thought Optics aren’t great um but it’s like I wrote for today uh on the athletic it’s just basically also one of those things where yeah Mike should probably be there it’s probably best for the team if he is but this is nothing new you know this is stuff that you know Lawrence Taylor got away with stuff with the Giants and uh there’s other players like the superstars with the Cowboys like you know Aman and em and Irvin that get away with stuff that Jimmy Johnson would never allow uh some of the other players on the team to get away with and so yes when you’re a talented player like that you’re going to get some leeway um but still I think I think the people at the star feel like Micah should probably be there for this OTA that brings up a question John and I’m curious to hear what you think about it because there’s been a little bit of a debate not only here but I’ve seen it in other places about Micah Parson’s being a leader on this ball Club some people say well he doesn’t want to be doesn’t have to be others saying well he should be because of the caliber of football player that he is where do you stand on Micah Parson’s emerging as a leader on this team I mean he’s a leader just by the fact of you know I think we’ve all you know not only in Pro Sports maybe just even playing in sports maybe when you’re younger the better players on the team when when it’s game time and they show up and they’re the better players they’re going to lead by just what they do on the playing surface and that’s where he qualifies in terms of being that vocal leader and saying all the right things and and being there when when the times are tough and and being a face of a franchise guy yeah I don’t think he’s there yet you know I think I think that you know he probably he probably has to grow up a little bit to grow into that and maybe that comes with his next contract but you know it’s just it’s not difficult to see what that looks like because that’s what Dak Prescott is for the Dallas Cowboys and really Dak handles it probably as well as anybody in all sports you know so um yeah I don’t think he’s on the on the leadership level of that and maybe he doesn’t want to be um but I think he he really enjoys you know he enjoys being front at these NBA playoff games he enjoys being in the media he enjoys you know the podcast side and a lot of the stuff that comes with the NFL aot other players would rather not even deal with so I think he he juggles a lot of things that I’m interested to see as his career goes on if he’ll if he’ll still want to do a lot of the other stuff because I I think that you guys have heard this and a lot of people probably have you know as you as you talk to let’s say like a Tom Brady or or somebody that’s been in sports for a long time and very successful you know that saying always comes along at some point you know just make sure you’re keeping the main thing the main thing and and and I and I wonder if maybe Michael will come to a point where he’s like you know what maybe I need to focus a little bit more out out on football um but you know obviously he’s performed very highly over these first three seasons he’s been in Dallas so I mean we’ll see how the season goes but um like I said I think I just don’t think it looks great that he’s that you know for the Optics of it that he’s not at otaa John Mota from the athletic joining us here on the blitz now you’ve gotten to watch Trey Lance throw this week Mike McCarthy and we made a nice little mashup with Master of Puppets because apparently Trey Lance has nearly mastered the offense uh are you seeing a master class level performance and practice from Trey Lance I I wouldn’t say it’s a master class I mean he looks fine he looks he looks confident you know in what he’s doing but I don’t know that you know they’re gonna they’re giving him a lot of opportunities like there’s times where he’ll work in with the ones and things like that I don’t know that they’re really doing a ton out there when with what we get to see that would really be able to say like oh yeah he’s absolutely mastered this I mean he makes some really nice plays and then there’s some other throws that you know he hasn’t made and there’s been some guys that have drop passes and things like that so yeah I wouldn’t I wouldn’t say it’s a master class but I just think that you know he he seems he seems like he’s confident with what Mike McCarthy and that offense is asking of him where he probably didn’t he probably wasn’t on that level when he obviously got traded uh right when the season was starting last year so where I stand on all this is that I don’t see the Cowboys keep being three quarterbacks under 53 and so because of that it’s going to come down to Trey and Cooper rush and obviously the Cowboys are going to give Tre Lance every opportunity to win that backup job and so as long as he looks like he’s progressing and he’s comfortable and he has a future in this league I I see him winning that backup job I think he’d have to play really poorly in the preseason and in uh training camp for them to be like well we got to keep Russia the backup we can’t trust Puttin lance out there so that’s what it ultimately comes down to is will he show enough that he can be the backup to Dak Prescott during the 2024 season well John what I love is and and it even started with your article a week or so ago uh all the assistant coaches just you know it was almost like a love letter and then you hear Mike McCarthy yesterday uh talking about tra it are is it a PR move for these guys just to maybe prepare fans that hey this guy could actually be your backup quarterback yeah I think it’s also one of those things where they don’t want to say anything negative about him like just imagine if if any assistant or let’s say Mike McCarthy yesterday said yeah you know he’s he’s really coming along he’s coming along but there’s still a lot he has to catch up on I mean we’re all writing about that if he says that you know so uh and we’re talking about that you know and so I think that you know McCarthy’s not going to sit there and say like we got to make sure his confidence is where it needs to be because you know we don’t want to be putting stuff like that out there but I I always wonder if that’s part of it when you are a top five pick and uh you know it doesn’t work out with your franchise and and and let’s let’s really be honest here it doesn’t work out with your franchise that I think we all know is one of the top five if not the best run organizations in the NFL right now you know he didn’t get kind of run off by some bottom feeder team where you’re like well they do they really know what they’re doing he got ran off by the San Francisco 49ers and so I I bet that that impacts your confidence to a certain level and so I I just think that everybody involved is being super super careful on saying anything that could potentially be you know in any way Twisted to be negative because I think they want to give him every opportunity to go in training camp have a positive experience and get a ton of work in the preseason to see what they actually have there because let’s be honest until he actually gets into that setting I don’t even think they know for certain because that’s ultimately when everything is decided John Mota from the athletic here on the blitz wide receiver um I want to talk about too Jaylen hbert and D Duce Von uh let let’s start with Duce cuz he had some quotes today uh that he he’s been studying film of Cole Beasley now is that just because he’s going to play some slot could there be movement to the slot or he just wants to study film of short people that have made it in the NFL no it’s it’s because of the they want to see some more slots from him and I think that’s just all I mean he’s going to be a running back first but I think they’re just looking for ways like you know how can we get this guy more involved in the offense and and utilize some of you know his skill set because we obviously saw some flashes during the preseason last year and there were a couple times early in the season but they really got away from even running anything for him as the season went on and so I think they’re trying to give him every opportunity to be able to make the team you know because just being a running back you know that room is pretty crowded right now so it’s like it’s one of those things well can you bring something else to the table too can you be the you know help out at running back and also help out a little bit slot receiver do some other things I think that’s the reason why you know they’re working them a little bit in that role and I think that’s why he’s watching some of some tape of Cole Beasley playing the slot obviously Cole played the slot at a very high level and he and he’s a shorter guy but I think another factor in this is that you know after after you have you know cidd lamb and Brandon Cook there’s still a lot of question marks at the wide receiver position on this Cowboys team like like I mean it’s it’s an interesting debate and and if you know you’re sit here say like okay who’s going to be their fourth receiver because I think everybody knows that CD will probably be one cooks or or Jake Ferguson will be two and the other one will be three but who’s going to be four I mean Jaylen Tolbert maybe maybe yeah that’s the guy maybe it’s kavante Turpin Jaylen Brooks like there’s a lot after that very top group where you’re just there’s a lot of question marks there um and and those guys will all get a lot of time obviously in preseason to so I think that factors in as well well John is it possible that kavante Turpin could step in and play more wide receiver making Duce Von perhaps the kick return guy I think okay so I do think that kavante could it would not surprise me at all if he if he gets a lot more touches as a wide receiver this year I I feel like you know Mike McCarthy’s even talked about this where he wants to get him more involved as a wide receiver but with those new kickoff rules and I and I’ll tell you what I was talking to another writer about this yesterday we were watching practice the way that they’re structured they really haven’t shown us much when they get to the Special Teams period of like working on anything with that new kickoff thing and I think that’s by Design I think I think you’re going to see a lot of NFL teams trying to be kind of secretive and it’s going to kind of make it fun going into the start of the season because I think you’re GNA see some teams try some wild things and some you know just some stuff you haven’t seen before and so because of that I just and and and going off also talking to John fostel recently they want to get they like the way that this rule changes for the opportunities for from SHP and so I think vgh can factor in as well but I don’t think they’re going to do anything to take away kavante turin’s opportunities in that in that return game you know and you think about where the Cowboys are right now and I think we all agree this roster isn’t near as good as the one that got blown out by Green Bay but as you’re there at practice watching talking to the guys talking to the coaches listening to the coaches and and you know Jerry talks about you know this roster has a lot of promise you know those young guys and it’s hard to tell in a may practice I get that but are you seeing them noticeably better than maybe last year about the same time with some of those young guys no not at all I think anybody that would tell you that I I just don’t think one you can take that off of just what we’ve seen up to this point um and and to be honest with you even when they all say it it kind of goes back to what I said about the Tre lance thing it’s not in their best interest to sit there and say yeah we’re real nervous about Mazy we don’t know if we’re gon anything from schoon maker like they need those guys and and there’s some hope you know attached to that so there’s hoping that you know hey we think these guys can take on a bigger role Sam Williams having to step in you know for the you know the loss of dorren Armstrong uh you know some other guys they need to step up on both sides of the ball Demarion overon coming back from the the knee injury like they can say all those things but no there’re I mean when you’re out there it’s it’s very clear they need a lot of guys to step up I mean you you can almost look at every position group need someone to step up that you really don’t know of right now I mean that whole entire running back room you don’t know for sure what you have there at all you know and and heck look at the offensive line I mean just have two rookies that could potentially be starting there you won’t know about them either until you throw them to the wolves and so and yeah they’re going to say the right things about it but I don’t there’s nothing that I’ve seen and and I don’t get the feeling right now with the way this current roster is that there’s anybody that should realistically believe like this is going to be a better roster than it was last year I gotta ask you John any of the guys any of the players or coaches or anybody talking about the Mavericks only when asked about really and and it’s usually been in questions that are uh you know about really what the Rangers Mavericks and stars have all done it’s a lot of our guys first time being in oops sorry but none none of them none of them like anything I mean Dak had the most interesting quote last year you I mean last week obviously with you know he dropped the f bomb about putting more more pressure on them fine Bring it on or whatever like that um but nothing to be honest with you I don’t think it really hits the current players that much because they’re a little bit younger it’s I can’t wait for when Jerry’s you know when we we haven’t he hasn’t been at practice we haven’t got a chance to talk to him it’ll be interesting to hear what he has to say about it because he’s the one that’s been around for this last 28 years when they haven’t even gotten back to a Conference Finals and to see all these other teams in the Metroplex having the success that they are uh he’s got to be very aware of that but it’ll be interesting to see how he handles that question because next time Jerry talks it’s gonna be probably the first question he’s asked yeah probably not problema it will will be out of curiosity and you may not have the answer to this at the athle are more clicks on stories about the Cowboys in in voluntary practices the Mavericks or the Stars so that’s a good question I don’t have I I’m not privy to the other teams um but I’ll just say we’ll take the athletic out of it and we’ll just I’m just go off of my own time covering Sports down here I I would find it hard to believe that anything still Taps the Cowboys right now yeah and it always pretty I’ll tell you this I this is my theory on everything around here um just having been here and and then also getting to look at it kind of from afar not being you know a native of the area uh and being from Detroit which is obviously a pretty hardcore Sports town I I’ll I’ll say this the only way that any of those other teams are going to even scratch at you know taking interest away from the Cowboys is Luca donic would have to go on to be like one of you know the top four or five greatest NBA players and they would have to win like they’d have to go on almost like a Jordan type run where he turned the Chicago into a Bull City in the 90s when it was clearly a bears town and it still is a bears town but in the 90s you know that Jordan hold that that just being so dominant fac the league you know and obviously you guys experienced it with the Spurs that’s the type of run that the Mavs would have to go on because I really don’t even think that there’s something that the Rangers or Stars could do that would impact the Cowboys you know it’s interesting um you know may practices you got you know a team now in the NBA Finals a hockey team that could make the Stanley Cup finals yet interest in the Cowboys is is there you’ve got the greatest beat at the athletic uh no doubt purely just covering the Dallas Cowboys I I just didn’t know like but a lot of that though a lot of that though is too is because that a lot of your readers when it comes to the Cowboys are coming outside of the Metroplex as well where most of the readers when you’re talking about the Maverick stars and Rangers are going to be more likely in in the Metroplex you know that that just their bases aren’t like what the cow Bo bases if you’re talking about just readership in the Metroplex I guarantee you the Cowboys aren’t topping the Mavs or Stars right now but when you you know when you count everybody all across the world then yeah no the Cowboys are Rangers series did at what point last night watching Bad basketball did you flip over and watch hockey uh no point okay yeah there was no point that I did that pledge what at what point last night did a real sports fan flip over and watch hockey I ended up flipping over probably when it was like 19 or 24 in the second quarter yeah yeah it was it was before halftime when I was watching more hockey in basketball was on the uh small television see I was giv Minnesota the benefit of the doubt at what point you thought they were going to come back from down 40 80 I I I thought the Mavericks might win this thing by 60 I’m just saying I thought well you know if I tune away and go to something else and then I wake up or later I look at my phone it’s like you say tun away you mean take a nap well no like watch something else other than hockey uh so and then all of you say oh miraculous comeback by the timberos and I would have missed it uhhuh now about well I watched all the way through the third quarter and by then it was like H there’s no chance did you watch anything after that or just go to bed early uh no I don’t know what we watched after that it was just whatever yeah there was no specific show our time killer flipping around just doing Stu try this yeah watch that it was disappointing I I really thought the way this series is gone I was surprised that that’s how Minnesota went out I’m I’m surprised too quite frankly but I mean you could see it right away Luca just had this focus last night that we all thought he would play better than he did the other night uh but the way he came out the other night and what made his I think he had 10 of the first 12 points for the Mavericks he was knocking everything down and he said this dude’s laser focused and it’s going to be a long night for Minnesota you wonder there’s there’s going to be so many good storylines leading up to game one and I don’t know why in basketball We Care football we always have two weeks before from the conference Championship games to the Super Bowl and you get all these storylines and all this buildup and all this hype and in basketball or you know in hockey if you get it I just like oh man we got to wait this sucks right but I mean it’s just like football right and there are so many good storylines going into the NBA finals Kyrie going back to Boston you know the fact that he didn’t treat a young Jaylen Brown and a young Jason Tatum the right way wasn’t the best of teammates you know porzingis is gonna play his old team you got all these and then you’ve got the the story that I think really kind of developed last night the Abu Luca all right um he he he thrives on that he CHS you he thrives on that Boston fans are well snotty they’re rude they’re you know that but are they going to be quiet are they going to are they going to boo him and talk trash because well again he thrives on that there’s there’s great video of him asking a a fan on the on you know sitting in the expensive seats um if he’s crying and a weird answer like I could sue him for that whatever that was or whatever he said that made no sense but you could clearly hear him on video saying words that we can’t say on radio about who’s crying now um and something M trying to do the crying thing because everybody says Luca is a cry baby sometimes he is but again though you if you try to get under a skin if he thrives on that do you think in Boston they’re saying hey guys don’t talk trash to that guy I mean it seems anti fan and anti Boston they’re gonna talk trash but if you’re Boston you don’t want to you know stir up that Hornet’s Nest do you gonna that’s going to be a storyline though they’re going to stir it’s Boston they can’t help themselves you know I mean they’re going to do it so it look it’s gonna Boston on paper is is the better team I think over from top to bottom on paper yep but they’re not battle tested no and they have a tendency to choke here we go and the Mavericks are coming in battle tested they’ve had to earn their way in there and and um I I just I think it it favors Dallas I really do not to mention the fact pledge that the Celtics are overrated they’re overrated I’ll say it somebody’s got to be truthful on this station yeah they’re overrated overrated yeah they swept a team to get into the NBA Finals look we I don’t want to rehash that they got lucky as hell sure but they’re there and the road for the Dallas Mavericks has been as tough as it gets um they’ve got the best player in the league right now that’s still playing in Luca maybe overall I I I think overall I think Boston has a deeper better bench sure I I agree with that I think Jason kid is a far better Coach uhuh and I I hope we get a good series I I do um I still don’t trust Boston and you look at two young stars that haven’t been there uh well I say haven’t been there haven’t won it before you got Luca and you got Jason Tatum I I think one of the differences is if Luca is not the MVP of the NBA Finals the Dallas Mavericks aren’t going to win Jason Tatum doesn’t have to be the NBA Finals MVP for them to win the championship Boston win with with he won’t be here we go he won’t be Tatum Tatum is a is a good player good huh but it’s he’s he’s Dak Prescott wow here come here come now he at least he gets to the finals that’s that’s us look I it’s gonna be and they’re gonna have to play but Luca is gonna play Boston won’t get the benefit of the Mavericks fumbling the ball all over the place you know with three minutes to go so they can get the ball and and and rally back from a deficit that’s not going to happen also going to have to actually earn their wins the ones that they didn’t earn against the Indiana Pacers so it will be a much tougher challenge for the Boston Celtics than it was in the Eastern Conference Finals well Indiana is good but they’re not Dallas good well and again they were good enough to have the lead late three times only to Fumble it away okay so they were obviously they were good enough to scare the crap out of Boston fans think Minnesota had a couple of late leads um yeah know Minnesota’s better than Indiana Claymore is already saying MBS in five although I think he’s a Die Hard it doesn’t matter Ms fan I think he is too but that’s okay until Spurs are rolling around then he’s a Spurs fan well that’s all right there’s nothing wrong with that no he can hey Pop’s rooting for the Mavs said so so if pop can cheer for the Mavs then Claymore can cheer for the maths I’m pulling for the maths but not cheering well I’ll cheer for them you’re gonna I watching amazement Luca donic knocking down threes from just inside the half court line uhhuh and amazing putting this goofy look on Snoop Dogg’s face yeah but I mean he’s got a weak gol you know how puffy he’s going to be when he shows up for game might be puffy yo that wallberg dude that’s in Boston going to have to bring his brother in for reinforcements it’s possible it’s it’s I I I mean you just look at it I think it’s going to be a fun series and we’ll have a whole whole week to talk about it although I heard this morning on the morning huddle is it six and a half or five and a half that Boston’s favored right now game one I have I don’t know and and I thought it’s way too early for me to look at a line for for a game that’s next week although if it’s six and a half you like that huh for Dallas yeah I mean that that just seems like that’s a that’s a big number for a week out for Boston the I did hear uh today that you can bet on the amount of games and I think the over and under for that is five and a half so you either go over under five and a half for the series it’s the NBA Finals at least give me six yeah well it should be Dallas will winning six at home give me six they’ll win it in Dallas at home I mean six four games five games in the NBA Finals I mean the the Conference Finals quite frankly sucked um as far as we had some good games but we didn’t have good long series I I you know what I mean you you realize that all of us should be rooting in the NBA Finals because after that final game and somebody is is got confetti and hoisting a trophy we don’t really have anything until we get to training camp right I I mean you you know I know the brah was play tomorrow and then there’s going to be a playoff game and maybe a championship game but in reality uh after the NBA season ends you know we’re waiting until August 31st for uh the kickoff college football well yeah you’ll have the NBA draft that’ll be coming up yes July there’s there’s lots of things that happen in the summer but and it’s funny because we get asked all the time especially this time of year what do you guys talking about uh you know with no games doesn’t matter about games off season a lot of times is more fun for talk radio guys you know because everybody listening is a better general manager than the idiot with job title whether they’re talking
