Personally I don’t like this trade specifically because the Nets would have to consider signing him to a long term extension, compared to Mikal who is already on good money for a year more than Giddey.
The Nets will be removed from Ben Simmons at the end of the year and I think they’d want that money reserved for someone who is worth swinging for rather than having to include Giddey in the equation.

Cason Wallace has to be in the deal. I’ve been thinking Wallace, Giddey and a couple of other pieces (picks or players). Giddey value is in the tunes at this point.

I actually really like the idea of making a bet on Giddey, similar to what we did with DLo. We desperately need a facilitator on this team. The problem is that we have no incentive to tank and Mikal is a good player on an excellent contract. Anything we do will likely be adding to the core of Mikal/Cam Thomas/Claxton (who I expect we resign), not subtracting. I highly doubt any of those guys are getting moved. So you’d need to be okay with getting some of our rotation guys. Given that that’s kind of what OKC needs anyway and we would need to pay Giddey, I do wonder if there is still a trade here that makes sense. Depends on whether other teams would be in on Giddey or not. It’s unclear how other teams around the league feel about him.

don’t hate taking a shot on Giddey but this trade is an L. If the picks end up being late firsts then it’s potentially a disaster.

Mikal didnt improve like we thought he would but he is not a negative asset and is on one of the best contracts in the league. No reason to trade him
