Biggest Non-Malik Monk Storylines For the Kings – June 4: The Insiders + D-Lo & KC

Ramsey gets the belt it feels like it’s the way thing should be not really I’m just messing with you H let’s see oh I have to do here quote tweet join us um oh Jesus the Sixers could sign Joel andb to a three-year $1 193.5 million extension the summer embiid 193 for three years 31 a year 61 a year 61 a year 139 or one 193 3 year 193 that’s even more than that Jesus crimey that’s 64 and a half 6433 Jesus morning David what up Miss Mac Stephen my man Katrina good morning great Point great Point by octo ear here yep bro they had these at the Coliseum a couple seasons ago and I was just like why are they selling that I need one right now after taxes and stuff was like $50 what was it a Jason J be shy oh an insane amount oh here we go game time ah good morning and a very happy Tuesday to everybody out there whether you listening on the radio on 1320 a.m. maybe you’re on the free Odyssey app or maybe you’re hanging out with us in the chatty house at youtube.com ESPN 1320 or twitch.tv ESPN 1320 we appreciate you hanging out with us that guy right there that’s James ham I’m Kyle Madson and we’ve got uh we’ve got a we’re going to do some NBA draft stuff today yeah I also saw a thing on the internet last night that I want to present to you uh to to discuss as well but before we do any of that uh Facebook has a very interesting place in my social media rotation okay it’s a it’s a it’s not a it’s not a dormant social media for me but it I’ve pretty rarely go there and when I do it’s to see what friends are up to I don’t go get news and I’m not going to Facebook for like entertainment just checking in on people seeing what’s up so when I had a kid yeah I’m gonna go like that post or whatever whatever it is people got going on um but one of my favorite features is the Facebook memories feature uh because it it shows you past posts on this particular day and one year ago today one of the greatest sporting achievements of my life happened and is not high I was golfing at TPC Harding for Chris beerman’s birthday okay so Harding Park beautiful course out in San Francisco if you ever get a chance to play it do that it’s really really great course and I am not a good golfer I am actively terrible I don’t practice a lot but I like to go hang out with my friends I don’t keep my score if I’m trying to chip onto the P onto the green and I skull it 100 yards over the green I just go grabb my beer and stand on the green while my friends Putt and then I go pick up my ball I’m just there for the vibes okay I’m The Vibes guy okay I’m not trying to shoot a low score I’m I’m trying and I’m trying to like work on things and put but I don’t practice enough to be any good at golf okay I’m with you but but I like it I have a good time but there’s zero expectation that I’m going to do anything good if I par a hole it’s like yes that’s big time I take three or four good shots with me and that’s my day like yes good work so we’re out at Harding Park and uh we’re on a par five and didn’t hit my drive great didn’t hit my iron great as as one does and I’m like a buck 90 out a buck 80 a buck 90 out and I did not realize how far out I was so I had parked my cart it was cart path only way up there I grab my nine iron and I go walking up to a ball and beerman’s like yo that’s not that’s not you you’re back oh all right my bad so I go traes him back I’m look at I’m like I am way too deep for this nine like not even close to where I need to be swinging a nineiron from like that’s like a for me that’s like a 130 club like I 190 is insane yeah so I’m like the cart path is so far away though I am so far from the cart I’m not going to walk all and I’m away I’m up I’m not going to walk all the way back to the cart to grab a different club and come all the way back like that just holds up the whole thing I’m just going to hit a nine iron try and lay it up and then I’ll just go from there again I’m not keeping my score it doesn’t matter so I line up I’m sitting there I’m looking and I blade this thing just skullet just a line drive that two hops the green whacks the pin and falls in so your boy eagled I think it was 12 at uh at TPC Harding on this day today one year ago today uh the greatest sporting accomplishment of my life and the and it’s funny because I wasn’t trying to do it if I was good at golf and I did that I’d be like oh nice that’s a good shot but it’s it was a total accident okay and one of the greatest things I ever accomplished that’s that’s a good one thank you that’s a good one yeah I don’t know I I I like ranking my sports accomplishments in my life I don’t know where I would go yeah no I don’t like I said there’s not there’s not like a ton for me that are that are way there that stand out like oh my God that thing I did uh that’s just one in my post particularly in my post high school life that’s that’s been one of the very few non-s slow pitch softball related oh yeah slow pitch softball I got a few yeah I remember I was I was running back on a ball I look up and I’m like huh why is there a tree limb sticking out just as I extended fully and the ball touches the end of my glove my stomach hits the fence oh three foot tall fence wrapped over the fence look down ball still in the glove guy center fielders What A Catch and I’m like hey bro how about next time you tell me the fence is coming yeah just a little warning a little warning how about you say anything yeah let me know hey heads up fence coming big cut all the way across my stomach that’s brutal what what Happ in Arizona I had the opposite happen uh with the other outfielder telling me what was happening ball gets crushed I’m playing Left center field ball crushed over my head so I turn back and I run and it we’re at the the Big League Dreams field so it looks like a big league Stadium it’s warning track and is really cool right and ball gets smoked I immediately start going back and my left fielder goes hey fence fence fence fence and I didn’t I just so I stop and I look up and the ball drops three feet behind me on the warning track like I would have caught it h yeah anyways so sometimes that can go wrong they can all right anyways uh if if you have any uh post High School sporting accomplishments you want to brag about on on the radio 91699 132 91699 1320 Draft Express reported something that I don’t like the the newsworthy the newsworthiness of this is not what matters to me uh I W to I want to tie in the the Kings to this so Draft Express uh reported that every free agent every veteran guard they all want to play with Victor wanyama every one of them every single one the Spurs are going to have every player in the league you have a 97 man 97 man roster they will have at least 13 13 guards all of which want to play with Victor wom pick and roll pick and roll pick and roll but I do think this is interesting from the standpoint of we’ve been talking so much about the magic as a Malik monk suor we have talked a lot about the 76ers as a Malik monk Suitor the Toronto Raptors getting into that mix but given the Spurs salary cap situation and the fact that they are uh potentially looking for a point guard to pair with vikor wanyama for the foreseeable future I think you have to now put the Spurs in the Malik monk mix and I think if you’re Malik monk of all the options like that might be the that might be the most enticing particularly since every single guard and the NBA wants to play there yeah I mean like look if everybody else wants to play there why not you um I I looked it up there at uh $117 million in in guaranteed contracts for this year uh as far as the Spurs go and they have that’s not very many people in the roster um we’re looking at maybe 10 11 players so they’re going to have a couple of cap holds there um on top of that we’ve talked about this like in different ways for the last couple of weeks but the Spurs also have the fourth pick and the eighth pick in the 202 24 NBA draft mhm so their $24 million is more like I don’t know8 million maybe six yeah assuming they use both the picks yeah so I don’t know that they have the money to compete to go get now they could offer him a mid-level exception but but why would he take that as opposed to what the kings are offering no chance so I’m G to say that like there’s a zero I don’t want to say a point a bunch of zero 1% chance that he takes that just to go there he’s gonna yeah I don’t think I think the want to play with Victor wanyama is like a yeah hey Trey young would love to get traded to the Spurs or Deonte Murray would love to get traded to the Spurs yeah I don’t think it’s so much so that Malik Monk’s going to go take a mid-level to go to San Antonio no but I could also like if I’m the if I’m the Atlanta Hawks and I’m in full rebuild mode I’m like oh forget this scrap the whole thing and I’m going would they take you know you’re G to have to stack some players just to eat uh to match salary for Trey young but would they take the the fourth pick and the eighth pick and like have a a really big reboot although this isn’t a great draft to do it in yeah um maybe maybe they would consider like those types of picks uh like and you’re G to have to throw in like a Kellin Johnson you might have to throw in a Zach Collins to match salary um but yeah maybe I just don’t know what I I’m so interested in what the Spurs are going to look like because do they go hey Victor wanyama is really freaking good right now and might be an all NBA guy next year let’s jettison these picks and let’s get veterans in here to try and build a contender now maybe or are they like yeah Victor wanyama is 17 years old or however old he is what is he 19 20 yeah he’s 20 has he turned 20 yet yep so he’s 20 years old we’re going to get the fourth pick and the eighth pick and we’re going to try and build some continuity here with him and build some some infrastructure around him that allows him to be on a good team and not just producing on a bad team I have no I have genuinely no idea but if you told me if you told me that the Spurs just made a run and made the playoffs next year I wouldn’t be that shocked well I mean he’s an incredible talent and still think we’ll see like give him like year three he’s going to be like so off the charts good but year foure five is when he’s going to be like a like a huge winner and that’s what you kind of need to set yourself up for if I’m if I’m the Spurs so like a a cautious approach here is probably smarter like use one of the the two picks but maybe trade the other one uh or just go fully Young and see if you can find a couple more high-end pieces that possibly could work with him down the road yeah um but yeah I think this is really intriguing but I also I’m not sure that every guard in the league is like oh I got to get there like two years from now they’ll be like oh yeah that’s where I want to be but right now yeah I don’t know I don’t know yeah I have no I have no idea but it makes sense you could be the pick and roll guy with Victor wanyama oh heck yeah you a Hall of Fame career like that oh yeah like seriously if you’re just going to run pick and rolls with with wanyama you don’t have to play a ton of Defense because he’s going to clean up everything uh on the backside there’s a little pick and pop stuff you can do you’re gonna average nine assists a game that’s right man you can average nine without even trying yeah I without being good boy that sounds that sounds like a really good time no the Spurs are going to be are going to be fascinating as are a handful of other teams in the west uh let’s on the on the Malik monk front so if we’re removing the Spurs then from the equation yep just for financial reasons the magic the Sixers and the Raptors are the other are the other teams the kings are competing with realistically probably I’m gonna take the Raptors out too that okay I I or or rather if we’re putting these in order I’m putting the Raptors way at the bottom because I think there’s part a part of Malik that wants to compete and the money is gonna matter for sure like don’t get it twisted if there was if there was some team that was going to offer him a Max contract I think he would go there and that would be the right thing to do but I don’t think that’s going to be on the table so for what’s realistically going to be on the table I don’t know that the Raptors are going to come in with some offer that’s so much higher that makes it worth going to a team that’s in the midst of a of a pretty significant rebuild yeah I mean Toronto was very interested in acquiring monk uh at the trade deadlines so I think that they’re going to be part of it I think maybe of the biggest thing for Monk Is that do you want to go all the way to Canada do you want to go all the way across the border and do you want to lose half your salary uh which is only slightly more than he would lose in California anyways sure but are you are you okay with that and you know is that team gonna be very good and I don’t think you know the answer to any of those they do have a lot of nice pieces it’s just whether or not you can be a Difference Maker yeah I’m putting the Raptors at the bottom of the list the Sixers intrigue me more than the magic do yeah as a monk option I I would agree but they’ve got a lot of work to do yeah I don’t what did you say Jo embiid got he said you said he an extension no they said that he uh there’s he’s eligible for a threeyear $193 million extension thought that sound weird this summer which is like over 64 million are you giving him that no I don’t think I would either I mean you have to but what do you I don’t know like Doc can you stay on the court that’s a big question right no like this is I I oh my God we are super late uh we got a Jesus um sorry I got locked in we will continue this conversation we got some NBA draft stuff we’ll keep talking about Malik monin apparently Joel embiid is GNA make $200 billion dollars over the next few years plenty of plent plenty more coming up on the inside are sponsored by Jeffy lub here on ESPN 1320 Sacramento sports here that’s what my look was just next time be like hey dog we gotta go I’m going to go fill up my coffee cup uh Ryan AP unpopular take but is sabonis defense good enough or does the offense make up for that look his defense is fine you just have to have the players around that can do what he that that can support in the right way in my opinion what up gang uh John I will not be burning this shirt a because this is my favorite A’s uniform ever and B um uh it’s Jason gomi which is dope uh and see I’m not GNA be buying any more a stuff sometime very soon so I gotta hang on to the stuff I do got yeah Ryan I like I I I uh just from a pure take standpoint uh I think you need to formulate that into a firm sentence unless you’re workshopping it uh then you know I might say workshopping this take yeah I agree Ramsey I had a uh I had the Jersey version of this black and green which I think they wor in 2000 uh I had the Jersey it might have been 01 but I had the Jersey version it was Johnny Damon and I have no idea what I’m so sad that I got rid of that yeah when they brought these back a couple years ago uh hat club sold them and I immediately immediately went in and got one the Kelly Green is one of the best uniforms in sports in my opinion I had the one with the uh with the white so you’re talking about the other black one that had the white a with the gold uh outline I think there was a green in there too I let my friend borrow that in college my freshman year of college I had it uh I let my buddy borrow it for some like sports themed party he was going to and never got it back that’s my bad yeah their home whites their home whites are very very clean but that Kelly Green is just is just nuts though especially when the guys wear the stirrups with them that’s a good ass uniform yeah Wheezy hey they came back with these the few years back too and I snagged one of those uh all right hey we’re coming back here we go now back to the Insiders with James ham and Kyle Madson brought to you by Jiffy Lube on ESPN 1320 that’s James I’m Kyle we were late to a break but that’s fine you don’t need to worry about that uh what were we what were we talking about when we suddenly had to break uh I think we were talking about everyone in the world wanting to go to San Antonio Spurs oh no Joan beid Jo oh yes so joelan beid is eligible for threeyear $193 million extension this offseason and you said the the thing that I find so interesting with these type of deals is I said are you giving that to him three years 193 and you said I wouldn’t but you have to yeah and my qu I don’t think you do though okay so you’re you’re looking at a 30 year old dude who won the MVP last year correct I still think and it’s not even like it’s an extension so he still has years left correct right so you’re still looking at he’s owed 51 this year and 55 the next so that’s 31 and 32 and then he has a player option at 59 million for the 2026 27 season which is what that three-year deal would supersede so yeah that’s pretty that’s a lot of money so we’re talking about wow so he has a player option for 2627 yeah so if we add in the 106 million that he’s going to make in the next two years to that 193 you’re looking at $299 million just a little bit under $300 million I can’t do it for five I can’t get there yeah I I but to to what we talk about with team building all the time you how do you not I know how do you justify yeah hey so what we’re going to do is we’re gon to let let this guy play out his contract because you said he has that player option for 26 27 yeah so here’s here’s here’s the deal you let him play out the next two years and if he’s playing 40 games a year he played 39 this year he plays 40 games a year or can’t get through a playoff series which I mean all credit to Joel embiid he was incredible in the playoffs a warrior just ridiculous well he’s a sixer but yeah and I’m sorry that was so dumb um but he drags himself and drags that team along and they just had no business being in that Series so I get I get I get that aspect of it but dude even if they had figured out a way to beat the Knicks they weren’t winning another round much less two more rounds and I just can’t I I don’t know that I would be willing to tie myself up financially for the next three years that starting this summer so for the next five years I don’t want to tie myself financially to a guy who a hasn’t even gotten to the Conference Finals yet FYI who can’t stay healthy and I get he’s an MVP candidate and he was probably going to win an MVP again this year but dude that’s the that’s the problem he played 39 games yeah and he’s been un I I would I would let him play out the Stream and if he’s great and he wins an MVP next year and he’s in the running for the MVP the year after that he probably declines that player option and he’s all mad and he wants to leave or he declines the player option but resigns on a Max at that point fine but if he’s bad at least then he’s picking up the player option for 59 million or not bad but if he’s hurt at least then he’s picking up the player option for 59 million and you’re not on the hook beyond that no that’s true I mean this is It’s it’s really difficult because you know the kings are going to face the same exact thing here with with Fox like they can extend Fox this summer they can extend Fox next summer and you’re going to have to judge like what is it worth and I I’m not sure that there’s an easy answer I don’t know that there’s an easy answer for for any of these players and and fox is relatively healthy but we’re looking at uh this next season he’s at 34.8 million the season after that 37 million but he’s going to be super max eligible or well he might not be super max eligible but he’ll be like Max eligible uh you can sign him again this summer you can sign him next summer but either way you’re gonna have to really think long and hard about do you want to give him the full Max or are are you more comfortable is he more is he worth the full max if he’s not a an all-nba player and I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve an all NBA player but is he a 30 % max player is he a 25% max player so these are T difficult decisions when you’re trying to build out a roster long term and the other thing is like this is what puts the little asteris on it for me you haven’t won you haven’t won anything so it it’s difficult to say hey we’re going to give you all of this money but with the hope that we might win something someday yeah and it’s not like you’re you know again even the Boston Celtics at least they’re making it to the finals you know the last couple years and so they have these big contracts coming up that are like obscene what what brown is getting is what is it 300 million over over five years it’s it’s wild I think the final year he’s making over 70 million but the same thing will go for Fox Fox is going to get to a point where at some point he’s making it’s even higher it’s gonna be 80 to 90 million and that’s crazy money and you got to make sure that you’re winning and this is but this is the this is the thing dearn Fox Joel embiid whoever and we’ve talked about the this similar thing with several other players but somebody somebody in the in the chatty house and and forgive me I I lost it uh but they said what’s the alternative and that’s the pro that’s the hard part about this yeah is let’s let’s let’s get away from Philly for a second let’s let’s talk about the Kings if dearen Fox if the if the kings are in the playoffs and first round exit when’s his he’s eligible he’s got two more years left but this he’s eligible now yeah so next summer for sure if he’s going to sign an extension next summer would be the year and he might hold out one more year before signing an extension they offered him an extension last year um and he said no I’m okay because if you make all MBA I think it’s two years in a row or a certain amount of times then you’re eligible for a full 30% of the salary cap not just 25 so like I I think that it would he would probably wait around again and say okay well what if I put myself back in that conversation and then at least he’s going to get paid more um but these are these are tough decisions I mean if you’re a team who’s who’s on the way to the that’s a second round team in the playoffs this next year then yeah I mean I don’t think there’s any question about it but if you’re a team that can’t get over the hump for some reason then yeah maybe you are thinking about it um got a little bit of breaking news here speaking of contracts according to Mike Florio a pro football talk Christian mcaffrey has a new contract with the 49ers he reported to mandatory mini camp today that gave some indication that he was uh that he was trending that direction after skipping OTAs and now Adam shefer reporting it’s a two-year extension with the 49ers averaging $19 million per year he will receive an additional 8 million over what he was scheduled to make in the first uh in the first two years while adding 24 million in guarantees good for the 49ers and good for Christian mcaffrey for cashing out on a offensive player of the year season yeah love that love that for him um and this the right thing for the for the 49ers to do as well like they’re sitting now this year with $25 million in cap space I think when you traded for Christian mcaffrey and you looked at the structure of his deal you knew that if he was going to be productive you were going to have to be paying him anyway so this was a uh good job for the 49ers good move uh good move by them that keeps Christian MCA Jey with the team and happy and when when your entire offense is going to revolve around that guy and when you’re about to pay a quarterback who relies heavily on that guy uh it’s probably best to to keep that guy in the room yeah probably is and you need to put him in bubble wrap and make sure that he’s healthy and and ready to roll facts like he’s that’s going to be the biggest thing for him not to say it’s totally like embiid but like look McCaffrey’s had plenty of years in his career where he fought injuries and you know it’s tough when you get to a certain age with some of these guys and they do have injury histories you have to put like so many eggs in that basket right you’re just like going okay like what are we supposed to do there there really isn’t an alternative and I think with mcaffrey the interesting thing is he’s just like such an outlier with all other running back contracts that’s it like he’s broken broken the the mold but he’s also an outlier with running backs of course like that’s that’s the thing is you can you can the the guys who are a quote unquote dime a dozen in the modern NFL are the guys where yep you’re going to hand it to them and they’re going to run and they’re going to be good but the the whole don’t pay running backs thing comes from well you can build an entire running back room that can be just as productive as one guy when it’s just handing him the ball and letting him run but with mcaffrey everything the 49ers do is predicated on his ability to line up in the backfield line up in the slot line up out wide pass block swing out in the flat be I I mean how many videos have you have have have you seen of hey watch this play where Christian mcaffry is just lined up in the backfield and just floats out to the to the to the flat linebacker goes cornerback stays safety flies down foron auk wide open yep like that’s that is that that’s why you have to pay that guy he just makes life so much easier for for Kyle Shanahan for Brock pie Shirley uh and the rest of the Niners offense that’s just the right move um I I would agree we got to hit a break let’s get back on the uh on the king’s topic because I want to get to the drn fox contract thing uh that that you brought up I think that’s really interesting and then we’ll dive into some NBA draft as well for you on the Insiders coming up on ESPN 1320 s Sports later what’s going on everybody uh huh DeMarcus Cousins uh Finals MVP and Taiwan yeah dude Jesus yeah 24 guaranteed I believe yeah in the final in the final year yeah it’s not my favorite uh Mike Florio is not my favorite person on Twitter um but he is um he is uh really good at the contract stuff very very good H here um new money average of 19 million a year um oh he said we’ll have a full breakdown of the deal soon cool thanks Mike what’s up Michigan Wolverines yeah so it’s two more years added on to this season sorry I’ve got a million things happening here yep Kyle’s got to work uh Brandon auk did not report for camp or for mini camp subject to $14,290 that’s the real question right there that is the real question Dave fantastic Q very good question we should talk about that on the next [Laughter] segment uh I do like to see that uh David Adelman is getting an interview with the Cleveland Cavaliers he’s receive permission from the Denver Nuggets come back now back to the Insiders with James ham and Kyle Madson brought to you by Jiffy Lube on ESPN 1320 he’s James I’m Kyle you can join the show at 91699 1320 91699 1320 uh if you call I’ve got somebody on hold right now hang in there caller uh we will get to you shortly if you do call and it just rings and rings and Rings just have patience okay just hang out and then once as soon as we can we will hit that line so it’s not ringing anymore I’m calling Kyle no no you’re on the air you don’t have to call oh are you kidding me just here what you get to no you just get to talk feel feel like that ripped off just leave M like I gotta go do something call in um Christian mcaffrey extension with the 49ers uh 2 years uh $19 million a year 24 million guaranteed um still awaiting a full breakdown from Mike Florio pro football talk but he originally reported that a deal was done Adam schfer was first with the with the details uh Christian mcaffry awarded for his offensive player of the year season Brandon auk meanwhile according to Matt mayoko has not reported for mandatory mini camp Christian mcaffrey did which was a sign that if he was awaiting a new contract that there was something in the works Brandon iuk is still apparently a ways off he is not there for mandatory mini camp he is subject to like $105,000 or just over $104,000 in fines over the next three days I believe with those the 49ers have an option to resend the fines I don’t think you can resend training camp fines though for missing Camp I I I believe is the case um so no Brandon IU contract yet he is not in the building for the 49ers Christ mcaffry doeses have a new deal though uh and we were talking about dearn Fox as well because you brought up a really interesting thing in regards to Joel embiid being extension eligible it was kind of what do you do in that scenario and then you brought up dearen Fox who’s also extension eligible and I think with guys like embiid and and with guys like Fox and and they’re different scenarios for sure but yeah we’re talking about second third contract third and fourth contract a 27y old versus a 30y old there’s and one guy who’s been healthy in his career and one guy who is not like this is not Apples to Apples I’m not this is not to make that comparison um but you brought up with Fox you know it the kings are gonna have to decide is he a Max Max guy is he a 30% of the max what you know whatever whatever it is and to me when you have when you have the player that you have decided that is going to be your guy like to me you have to Max that player out every time because I just don’t think that sends a great message if you’re like yeah hey you’ve been really good but so let’s say uh the Kings go to the first round and losing the first round again it’s like hey you know and and win 48 games and they try and go yeah hey how about Darren how about on that extension you take this much less than the Max uh because that’s just kind of where where you know we haven’t won anything yet and that’s just kind of where we think you land you can’t do that you can’t and you’ve got to pay him and I mean that’s what it’s going to be they offered him Max money last year and they’ll offer a Max money again this summer that’s it the maximum that they can offer not the maximum that he can make it because that’s based off of a completely different like equation but yeah they’re I they they have to be all in at this point and if yeah go ahead again it’s it’s the cost of doing business in the NBA it is you you got a guy who’s who’s averaging over 25 points a game who is your number one guy it’s the cost of doing business and so you hope you’re putting a lot of Hope and and prayers that you can get over the uh get to the next level and and take this team where you you want to go but at the same time like I just don’t think you can back away from it no and I don’t think he should come in and say hey I’ll take like five five million less a year because 5 million less a year doesn’t really matter no and that’s not his job that is not dear’s job job he’s he he is trying to make as much money as humanly possible as he should now if he does if he does go in and say hey I want to be able to build around then then cool yeah No One’s Gonna Knock him for that but that’s not the expectation that shouldn’t be the expectation and if you and this is not a king specific thing if you are concerned about that player your current 1A if you were concerned about his viability as a 1A moving forward then you should be looking to cut bait ASAP well that’s a much bigger problem right much much bigger problem right so that’s why when that’s where the the the two roads diverge for me is even if the Kings have questions with Fox you’re paying you that’s that’s you’ve picked this path you you are so far down this Fox sabonis Road now yep that you don’t get to do something different without blowing the whole thing up so that’s you gota with in the fox scenario it’s way less of a question to me than in the embiid scenario yeah oh no I totally agree and and I think embiid’s contract because he’s you know again this is a third contract for him or fourth contract um like the money just keeps going up and up and up it it’s it just gets crazy and we’re talking about fox and his prime the three of those years short do look like for embiid are going to be non-prime years MH CU you’re talking 27 28 29 30 Fox maybe maybe 28 31 32 for Fox that’s his prime the entire way yeah we’re not talking 33 34 and then you got to worry about those other years down the road when the NBA salary cap is even more Bonkers and and players are getting paid even crazier dollar figures yeah so yeah it’s interesting and don’t don’t get it I I don’t want this to get twisted we’re both in the dearn foxes a max player yeah yeah Camp I’m just saying though I’m just saying like being realistic it’s still as as a person who’s who’s going into negotiations it’s still got to be in the back of your mind like you’re putting all this money in and and you made the playoffs one season and got bounced in the first round and and if he doesn’t break his finger they’re in I agree they at least go to the second round and and possibly further than that right um so so yeah you’re paying him there’s no question but I’m just bringing it up as like hey like every franchise faces these dilemmas and you almost have no other recourse but to just push your chips in yeah like somebody somebody i’ had mentioned this the in the chatty house said what’s the alternative what in regards to embiid and it’s like there’s not one no how do you sell your fan base like yeah hey we’re not gonna pay this MVP candidate we’re just we’re gonna let him go because look hey guys we haven’t done we haven’t really done that much like that just doesn’t fly yeah I just you can’t and then and now you’re the team that doesn’t pay a superstar and that’s not a place anybody wants to be yeah it’s it’s totally bizarre so the the ners did sign Logan Thomas oh they did yeah they did do that yeah so it’s a minor move but their best backup tight end that they’ve had in the Kyle Shanahan era right there yeah okay they’ve needed another pass catcher he’s not a great blocker but it gives him a little bit of flexibility in two tight end sets I guess maybe that’ll be the next evolution of their offense I don’t know um we’ll see okay it’s kind of interesting uh don you’re on the Insiders with James ham and K Madson what’s going on Don hey yeah man it’s done AKA TC what’s up H what’s up TC what’s up TC hey just VI aam so quick question am I wrong or is this right is this correct so say just for instance say if a trade was done for like a kma or something right with Monty mcir so the deals can’t be an announced right like say if it was like breaking news today they can’t announce it it would be another Milwaukee bug situation right if the trade was announced now like it could be deal done behind doors like Hey we’re agreeing now but you can’t announce it right or am I wrong no you’re actually you’re wrong the reason why the Milwaukee Buck situation with bogdon bogdanovich was shot down was because bogie was a restricted free agent and technically no one was allowed to to negotiate with him at that time now the NBA has since tweaked that rule where once your season ends as I mean once the the NBA Finals end the next day teams can start negotiating with their own free agents but it there are allow trades are allowed right now if I’m not mistaken we saw this a couple of years ago where a team made a trade like during the NBA finals and everyone was like huh I didn’t know you could do that but what it would have to be is for players under contract like what the Kings could not do today is do a sign in trade with Malik monk going somewhere else for some other player so it does that I hope that makes sense no it I get it now here thank you bro thanks right is over it down n or take I feel bad thanks Don thanks any thanks Don sltc um let’s talk NBA draft I don’t have any more I don’t have anything else on Joel embiid’s contract no it’s fine yeah that’s all I got um so I think there’s an interesting thing with the draft because I bottom line is the Kings currently have their pick they have not traded it yet they might trade it but they also might not okay so the responsible thing to do is to look at the draft whether whether we think they’re going to they’re going to make her pick I did this at Niners wire the last couple of years where they didn’t have a first round pick because of the Tre Lance trade they didn’t have first- round picks in 22 and 23 yep and I would still like look at the back end of the first round early second round and do like hey here’s some guys they could trade up for so I don’t think we’re going to see the Kings Trade Up necessarily yeah maybe they trade back I don’t know uh but I think there’s a discussion to be had about the 13th pick and we can get into players and we can do all that uh another time but right now when the kings are on the clock for for for me I think when they’re picking at 13 if they pick at 13 I don’t think there can be this Heming and hawing over need a big need uh Malik monk replacement need this or that I just don’t think there can be any of that because whoever you’re picking is probably not going to play a major role in year one you’re just hoping they can contribute a little bit and the only way you’re going to get that is if you just take the best player on the board I don’t care if it’s a big if it’s a point guard if it’s a shooting guard I just I I care so much less about position and skill set than I do hey can this guy play basketball and can this guy contribute 12 minutes a night right now that’s the only that that matters to me more than anything no I totally get that like if you’re the Kings and you’re looking at that spot I think you’re still looking at best player available as opposed to best fit but I I think you also if you’re the Kings and you you have a specific need you can also like sort of morph that into best player available Within These two or three positions right so I don’t think that there’s a lot of difference between um the number 10 pick in this year’s draft and the number 20 pick in this year’s draft sure there’s going to be some variant there’s going to be some players that jump up and are much better than you think and some players who aren’t good at all and are taken way too high but I also think that if you’re the Kings your focus might shift to not just like I don’t care what position I need long I need athletic sure you know I also long athletic and I’m not investing in a 19yearold or an 18-year-old I I prefer two to three years of college like so you can within the same sort of idea you can still have nuances to it and that’s where I think the Kings live the Kings definitely have like this front office definitely has a policy that they want to know what they know about a player that they’re not out here prospecting they’re not looking at like like a a mountain in the Foothills and saying I wonder if that has gold in it no they’re already they want to know that that like they eight core samples that show gold in the mountain mhm and so sure they might go and get in on that project sure they they do like to know and and like this isn’t anything new just look at the only guy that they’ve ever taken a flyer on is jamas Ramsey no one else every every other player that they’ve taken second third year you know a sophomore a junior a senior uh college player and that goes for like Robert Woodard that goes for nus kada it goes for dve Mitchell and Tyrese halberton and higan Murray they they haven’t taken a super young prospect outside of jamas so I would assume that they’ll do the same thing in this draft and we have to be hon it like so people understand they can’t trade the 13th pick today but on draft night what they can do is select a player for another team have a deal worked out that doesn’t go into effect until the moratorium ends yeah which is like I I don’t know if it’s right around like July 5th or 6th can I complain about that real quick okay that’s stupid that they can’t the way the NBA does this is dumb the fact that the Atlanta Hawks drafted Luca donic is silly yeah the fact that we have so many photos of guys in their draft hats of a team that they never played for is so so dumb and I hate it so so much Kyle on draft night in 200 11 it’s a mess we waited and waited and waited for Jimmer foret to come talk to the media MH and we never did because the trade didn’t go through on time and by the time it did it was like 11:30 and he was already back you know at his hotel room like celebrating with his family how was that helpful who who is this for who is this for yeah move the draft I get that part of the reason they do that is because you’ve got two teams in the finals and they can’t really be doing anything until the finals are over I understand that then move things yeah change your calendar it it I it’s it is the silliest most avoidable thing that happens in sports or let draft trades let trades make open a window where trades can happen during the draft where hey when the Hawks trade the Luca donic pick to the Mavs then Trey young goes up there for the Hawks and Luca goes up there for the Mavs yeah like that that it’s just so easy do that it does seem strange that they they refus to do that and I mean it’s it’s been decades right and I get I get why right because the trade isn’t technically official and something could fall through and now all of a sudden you got to go backwards and everything’s weird I to I I get that yeah but I I don’t like it I don’t like it one bit yeah I’m with you I I understand it so and and then the steppan rule like I get the steppan rule too is like in in the late 80s or early 90s like dude just traded all their picks like years and years worth of picks and it’s like all right you’ve hum hamstrung the franchise forever like what are you doing so I get I actually like the claws that you can’t trade multiple picks in a row uh but this is it’s a little it’s a little weird like they’re going to walk into this draft and we’re not going to know we’re going to spend some time right so when I look at a draft and I’m looking at the 13th pick um I usually I’ll look at a few uh other mocks I’ll look at a few other consensus boards um our our friend friend of the show Brett Huff he y does an incredible consensus board where he compiles all of the other incredible mock drafts and you’re sitting there looking so I’ll usually again at the 13th pick I’ll usually go up like five picks uh like who’s around number eight but then I’ll draw back 10 and I’ll look at a range from about 15 picks that could go into that and then maybe if there’s an outlier if there’s somebody who’s climbing boards if there’s somebody who’s really got a good buzz after the combine or something then I might dive into that player as well but that’s kind of how I look at and then I just dive into film like non-stop I’m watching every YouTube clip I can watch but I’m also going in seeing game footage I’m going to see some of their good games but also like who are you up against yeah and then for me a lot of it is I want to watch a Player move I want to see what their jump shot looks like you can always you know sort of the NBA rule is if a guy’s three-point shot is is a little suspect but you go look at his free throw percentage there’s a possibility that you can work with a guy but then when you watch him on film you’re like oh no that’s not going to work with this guy because every single jump every single three-pointer he takes he’s two and a half feet off the ground he’s he’s a he’s skying for every you know he’s a jump shooting three-point shooter and so I’m not going to use my free throw percentage to look at someone who does that because there’s too many variables so again I like to look at player movement and like even when I do comps I know people get angry with me because my sort of player comp for Keegan Murray he moves a lot like Marvin Williams and people are like oh you’re saying he’s Marvin I’m not saying he’s Marvin Williams I’m saying he moves like him sure his hips move like him his upper body he’s built like Marvin Williams he’s a lot of his game is predicated on some of the things that Marvin does he might be a better player he yeah he can be a way better player he can also be a better shooter but also Marvin Williams average 14 points per game for his career like he’s considered like people considered him a bust when he was a player like when he was a like second pick or whatever but he ended up being a really solid NBA player for for like 14 years but that’s not my point is that he’s going to be Marvin Williams it’s the way he moves the way he his body performs looks like a Marvin Williams and that’s where I think I I like to get into like you can see the way that a player Glides or the way that like he he attacks a rim that reminds you of other players and that’s how I kind of do player comps you have to because trying to comp that player from a production standpoint is impossible oh yeah because so much is predicated on situation and teammates and uh just development doing it that way is the right is the right way to do a comp and not do I cannot stand this is the an NFL draft thing that happens every year with three or four prospects like Marvin Harrison Jr were the guys this year it’s like he’s the mix of Calvin Johnson and Jerry Rice and Terell Owens it’s like what who that’s crazy what are you talking about like oh man you watch Caleb Williams God it’s like Patrick Mahomes mixed with Tom Brady like stop yeah that is nuts even the highs and lows for basketball and sometimes the low you’re like wait that’s a really good player that’s a really really good player the low that you put out there might be better than the high confused there were so many guys we’ll actually go through the uh ESP ESPN just Rel release their NBA player comps High high-end comp and low-end comps for the top I think four top 14 players in fact jacobe Walter yeah the guy they have to the Kings that’s who’s mocked to the Kings number 13 his highend comp is cavius Caldwell Pope his low-end comp is Gary Trent Jr and let me tell you if the floor for jacobe Walter is a Gary Trent Jr type of player pick him now yeah or give him a guarantee that he’s being picked now and in this draft that’s probably the the six pick in this draft really who he is yeah like okay look man that’s that’s a really decent ceiling but really high floor guy yeah like okay yeah that makes sense like sign me up yeah a thousand perc so I always the the I feel like the NFL is way more is way more prone to the just dramatic over player comp every single time and this is there you can find and let me let me rewind on this there are sites like uh I I think the ringer does a great job Ben solak and and Danny Kelly do do a really great job doing doing draft stuff for the ringer and when they do comps they do like shades of is what they say yeah yeah so that’s shades of Marvin Williams for Keegan Murray it’s like oh okay I see that instead of hey he is Marvin Williams it’s like yeah got and then they have fun with it they do they do you know just they’ll do like silly like movie references or something with these player comps it’s fun but you’ll see it when if you watch any ESPN Draft coverage whether it’s and again they do they do a great job Mel Kyper is a legend Matt Miller all those guys do a great job LS rck love Lewis rck but when they talk player comps it’s always this ridiculous like All Pro Caliber guy and you’re just like yo you have of the first 15 picks 10 are getting All Pro Caliber player comps it’s like three of those guys might be good yeah or or all pros and you’re just like that’s just it feels I don’t want to say lazy but it it’s just the nature of instead of trying to get down to the bottom of like hey I’m trying to give you a legitimate you’re talking about Keegan Murray and you’re like yo this guy reminds me of Marvin Williams and the way he moves and the way he does these things setting that expectation for like yeah hey he might be a better player might be a worse player have no idea I haven’t seen him lace up basketball shoes in an NBA court yet yep but here’s kind of the vibe I get here’s kind of the way this guy how he looks when when you’re going in with like yeah hey uh so Caleb Williams is Patrick Mahomes and Marvin Harrison Jr is uh is Calvin Johnson and romad dun is Anquan baldon I don’t know I’m just Pi I’m just picking players when you start it just it sets this ridiculous expectation I don’t think it helps anybody I don’t think it does anything I I think also the NBA the combine actually means more than it does in the NFL most of the time like guys can can really really like sh up like their 40 time they can get their 40 time within a very small window they can also their shuttle time whatever I think that they like you can’t hide from the fact that you you as a quarterback you have a small hand you have small hands you can’t hide from the fact as an offensive lineman you have short arms you can’t hide from those things right but I think at the NBA level it’s like okay you know a guy from Dayton has is 6’6 or He’s listed at 6’9 and then you get to the combine and he’s really like I don’t know six six and a half and you’re like okay that’s not even close yeah you know all of a sudden he’s not a power forward he’s a small forward right but he doesn’t move like a power forward I mean moves like a power forward not a small forward yeah so now I have this problem that I’ve got to deal with and you know you look at a guy and you can usually see a guy’s wingspan that’s one thing but I think being able to see like Max vert and and vert you can actually look at those and then go watch their game footage and go okay look it it doesn’t matter if he’s got a 42in vert he never once used that vert at all yeah so that’s fine like you want to say even like look at Fox and monk right I think if you really had them both jump monks probably got his ver is probably a little bit higher than fox fox doesn’t use his vert hardly at all uh where so fun when he does though yeah and then is like like no holds bar like I’m going to go over the top of you I don’t care I’m punching on somebody today exactly and you’re looking at two similar players but yeah like it like what is functional what’s not and I think you can even use sort of some of these stats and some of the these things that we learned from the combine and use them against players where it’s like okay like you might be a workout Warrior and you just showed me something at the combine but I’ve watched so much footage of you none of that makes sense so so it doesn’t translate so I think that helps you in your in your like evaluation and I think so much of what what matters too is just how you attack the drills how hard do you work how much do you get after it I think that matters to teams to on a more intangible level yeah where hey it looked like you were super quick on the court and now you’re just kind of half-assing it through this drill like what this is your opportunity like what’s do you not like basketball yeah that’s but I think that that that probably goes for for both the NFL and the NBA combin I want to keep talking about this because I think there’s an NBA and NFL draft comparison uh that I that I want to pull from that that you just reminded me of we’ll do that next we’ll keep talking about this and we’ll have uh Pro comps highend and lowend on some NBA draft prospects that the Kings Mary may not be looking at we’ll do that next on ESPN 1320 Sacramento sport now I want to look this up now that we talked about it Fox of the combine did not do BT Monk on the other hand oh was it monk not at the combine at all that’s wild he I’m going to label the markers mid roll okay just where the mid roll is going to go okay cool to the stra kid me here’s crazy uh Kyle kma at the combine his standing vert was 27 in which is not good and his max vert was 34 in and I would think most of the time we think of Kyle kusma as more of a high flyer a little bit I don’t and that’s kind of surprising h the other thing that I think is kind of weird um which it’s so difficult is like you want to compare every European player to every European player and then at the NBA level like every single time there’s a white player he’s he’s compared mostly to White players and it’s it’s it’s difficult cuz do kind of like you try to get out of oh yeah let me let me look at Marvin Marvin Williams 20 seconds yeah it’s like in the NFL every white receiver is West Walker yeah yeah here we go the most up toate sports news and talk with the ESPN 1320 [Music] insiders how number two that’s James ham I am Kyle Madson we are sponsored by Jiffy Lube and we are hanging out with you until noon on Sacramento sports leader DLo and KC no KC today just DLo will take over at noon and he’ll hang out with you until four o’clock um you talked about the NBA Combine mattering more than the NB NFL combine and I think that’s I think that’s kind of interesting I think part of it too is I think teams kind of learn a lot of the same things at both at both places because you’re looking at uh like you said functional athleticism you’re looking at does the tape match the workouts or vice versa um you know maybe you watch a guy on film and you’re like man okay a good athlete checks all the boxes athletically and then you watch him work out and you’re like oh that guy just ran a 481 and what was that so you go and you go back to the tape and see uh and kind of try and cross check is he running away from people because the opponent is slow are they taking bad angles uh is he just do is his play speed faster so now you’re going back and checking the GPS tracking data to see how fast he anyways um I think though that the NBA Combine might matter more because the opportunity is so much lower like you have a 15-man roster and you have two rounds yeah the in the NFL it is so much you have seven rounds you might walk out with 12 draft picks totally totally where after day two it’s like just Dart throw dart throw dart throw whereas in the NBA it’s a lot I I second round is is more Dart throw and maybe even after what 15 but in in the NBA that it you have two rounds to get it right and in a lot of instances you’re going to have one pick to get it right and so there’s maybe more Precision that goes into it than in the NFL where yeah hey we just we’ve done a ton of work on these top 50 guys and everybody else is going to be Vibes I I also think the NBA because you know they only invite a certain number of players to the to the combine you’re also you’re able to like get to know kids better right so the NFL combine like you can’t interview like 600 players and so the the NBA you know there’s there’s people around your range like we we heard the list I think our friend Sean Cunningham from Fox 40 put out the list of players that um that the king spoke to right uh at the combine and like Donovan kinghan and and Alex SAR like they talked to a couple of top end guys but they also talk to guys around their range like those are really really really valuable players like conversations to have right because now you get to know who these guys are a little bit and and the league is so small the NFL is so massive like there’s so many players that you can’t like you could see like 15 20 different defensive linemen in one day like during the draft process where you’re trying to interview them as quickly as possible and get on to the next one and you can get lost in that and like who you liked and who you didn’t and you’re going to take meticulous notes but same time like all of those things are going to blur into to one person yeah and so I think it’s it’s just an interesting way uh that like the two they’re very different but I I do think that like the NBA you can learn a lot you do need to know the the wingspan of a guy you need to know like the height to like that’s the hidden Heights are are always like such a big deal um but also like the height to wingspan like differential is huge um max vert versus you know standing two- foot vert all of these things I I do think matter and you can cheat the system but only to a certain degree you can go in there and do nothing but work on three4 Court and shuttle and and all these things you know even for the NB uh the NFL uh the bench press number and all that stuff you can work on those specific things to try to get to bolster your numbers but in the end the tape has to match what what the measurements are yeah yeah uh let’s do a thing we’re going to produce this live on a right now oh uh over the next two weeks so Monday the 10th through Friday the 21st uh we are going to pick a draft prospect today and really dive in on that Prospect okay I’ve never done an NBA Draft before at least not to an extent of looking at more than one or two or three players so I’m gonna I want to Deep dive this year in a way I haven’t before yeah I’ve ridden so many mock drafts throughout the years that’s yeah that’s easy yeah it’s absolutely well not easy but for you you’ve done it before that yeah well that and I kind of have a system for like going through and trying to figure out you know what think of a player and you know I read a lot there’s a couple of guys out there that are just absolutely tremendous at this and and I would like aim people that way and we’ll kind of dive into that too like sure um still waiting for uh Sam ves’s uh like his draft Bible to come out which is always the best it’s incredible yeah so so there are all these things that I like we’re going to dive into but um for me again it’s it’s a lot of like watching film um and I was corrected Marvin Williams only average 10 points a game for his career and you compared him to Keegan Murray you lunatic my bad ridiculous so um yeah so but again I’m gonna try and come up with the most obscure player comps I can for each Prospect so it gives us 10 we have 10 days to do this that gives us 10 Prospects okay does that sound is that a is that a good number yeah I think it’s a good number specifically in this draft because I I think that there’s a very good chance that Kings try to move on you want to do here like I said we’re going to produce this live on air and if you want to participate 91699 1320 91699 1320 or you can hit us up in the chatty house do we want to do top 10 or 10 that like the Kings could realistically that’s a better way to go or do we want to look at like top three and then do kings stuff or I think we go like I think we do all Kings I don’t give a damn about who’s going in the top three no I don’t either I don’t either I I would say consensus like number nine through number 19 because they the 13th pick maybe number eight through through it would have to be 17 17 yeah eight counts yeah yeah yeah got it got it so like in that range because I I think that there’s a lot of guys that may or may not be available certain spots so yeah that makes that makes way more sense yeah and then I don’t want to watch Alex SAR tape I’m sorry no I’ve watched some like it’s interesting but I I think I told you like right away the the player that he really looks like is James Weissman like sort of some of the movement and like of athleticism well no but Weissman that’s that’s where you have to like like just because he moves like a player doesn’t mean he’s going to be like bu like a player but when that name when a bust comes up yeah and you know what let me take that back James weisman’s career is not over so far he hasn’t been what the Warriors hoped they were getting when they picked a number two overall but maybe he a light bulb comes on he turns around as a great player for the Pistons that’s on the table still he’s like 22 years old anyways um no that’s the other thing with wisman specifically you could see the talent like you see the movement skills it’s ridiculous and then you you see that he can step out and shoot it a little bit and like man but when it comes to timing defensively knowing where to be on the court just general feel not it and that’s that’s in in the college game specifically that’s a hard thing to sus out yeah you’re that dominant because it’s like yeah give that guy the ball and he’s going to cook there’s not like a there’s not a ton of nuance to uh to the game at that point yeah no I’m with you and I think we also we were going to talk about this last week but the NBA is such a copycat League that like I think players will move up and down boards based on player comps that you know again everybody is looking for the next NS Reed right now they are like everyone’s like we got to get a Noz re you know what’s funny about that is like yeah a big guy who can step out and shoot threes at a high clip mhm and then can get to the basket by putting the ball on the floor can block some shots maybe rebound a little bit 69 or 610 or whatever Nas re is yeah like yep every team would sure love to have that yeah I get that but I think that like during playoffs you always have a couple of players who step up in a different way that become meaningful very meaningful yeah and then those are players that are like really hunted in the draft they become like the guys in the draft where and you know like nobody is NZ Reed nased is very very specific and we can talk about a whole list of players that you would like to get that might be able to do some of the things that Nas Reed does but none of them are as good at at what he does as he is so it’s it’s hard to find players like that and you know we we’ve talked about this but like how do you find um why am I draw oh herb Jones like you got to find another herb Jones those players seem like they should be easier to find than the but they but they aren’t because you can really difficult six of them and one of them is is good at basketball and the other three like flame out relatively quick and look hey if there was a clearcut uh herb Jones in this draft he would be going in the top four is maybe before if there was just a clearcut like yeah hey we’re going to get an all a first team all NBA all defense guy who’s going to knock down threes yeah well that even like the Malik monk thing like you’ll see a lot of people oh they they comp some like Dillingham like they’ll oh he comps a little bit like Malik Monk and it’s like okay but how many guys have come through that UK comp that are kind of like Malik monk so many but so many like it the personality plays into it the way they play the way they attack the game again the way that you know dearn Fox and and Malik monk both go the rim they’re both around the same size but one of them does it one way and one of them does it a completely different way and so that’s the problem that you have trying to comp players that you have to comp more than just like body style and everything else yeah it’s you know are they a better shooter than the guy you’re comping them to and everything else so yeah it should be intriguing the other one the the NFL version of this has been Debo Samuel teams have been on the hunt for the next Debo Samuel yeah since the 2019 season of course Lisa Chanel was be that guy and then it was uh was a trayon Burks for the titans this year it’s Malachi Corley although I think Malachi Corley for the Jets might actually might actually be that dude but but it’s just like th those players are unique for that reason like unique yeah that’s it’s really really hard to find uh n impossible to find if they are truly unique uh guys who are like that so yeah and even look at the Kansas City Chiefs just keep trying to draft the next Tyreek Hill they thought they could just make another one they they just thought hey we’ll just make another one we’re fine yeah wide receiver go fast yeah put them out there doesn’t work that way no not quite no not quite um anyways uh let’s hit a break we got good idea or bad idea coming up next we got to make a little bit of a change to that though after Christian McCaffrey’s new contract we have good idea or bad idea coming up and then we’ll roll through ESPN’s Pro comps for the top 14 prospects in this year’s draft that’s James ham I’m Kyle Madson we are the Insiders and we’re sponsored by Jiffy Lon SPN 1320 Sacramento sports leader in fact that’s what the little voice guy is about to tell you right now you’re listening to the Insiders with James ham and Kyle Madson sponsored by Jiffy Lop on ESPN 1320 and 98.5 HD2 Sacramento sports leader h yeah see Ryan AP this is a a good you know how many players like Jade McDaniels have gone have been drafted and even Jade McDaniels when he was drafted he tumbled down draft boards he was a much much higher Prospect but um lots of red flags with him at Washington and and he he tumbled oh interesting yeah see doton connect is the one that always question it always makes me laugh uh lezy uh question do you think Lively impacts game more than K Murray no I mean I get what your question is um like he certainly looks like he impacts the game more but like I don’t want to say Rim Runners uh like drik Lively are like a dime a dozen um because they’re not but like having an elite skill like shooting uh that keam Murray has is like the way it spaces the floor everything else I don’t know like I really like Dereck Lively and the Kings maybe could use a Derrik Lively but it’s also a situational type player right and he works a lot because of the the two stars that they have there way before trade be right back um okay okay a sign and trade is different than like when a player gets traded to an extension there are waiting periods so even like this year um when Jared vanderbelt got his deal he wasn’t eligible to be traded until March for whatever reason uh I think his extension came later or something uh um anyway um yeah I’d have to look it up like how long it sign and trades are are very specific and they’re almost like they don’t exist anymore maybe maybe but again there’s a little bit I’m not I’m not sold on jayen Johnson like his his athleticism his body all that stuff has been like since he was young now back to the Insiders with James ham and Kyle Madson brought to you by Jiffy Lube on ESPN 1320 good ideas and bad ideas that’s where about three headlines we do this every single day still got to make an intro I’m doing a bad job you’re doing just fine Kyle no didn’t know but that you know it’s a subpar subpar for sure if I was a real producer I would email somebody and be like hey here’s what I want this intro to sound like can you make it like it’s a it’s a it’s a two-minute task okay I just got to I just got to write it and send it over it’s fine fine I might record it myself I don’t know we’ll see uh good idea or bad idea we do this every single day if you would like to sponsor the segment let us know uh we pick three stories that are going on in the news typically sports related sometimes not three stories going on in the news and we say whether those things that are happening are good or bad ideas number one Padres Tu capita Marana was banned for gambling on baseball while with the Pittsburgh Pirates over the last couple of Seasons he placed 231 bets on baseball he won just 4.3% of them including going 0 for25 when placing Wagers involving his own team uh good idea or bad idea to bet on baseball while playing baseball uh I’m gonna say it’s a bad idea he’s never going to play again he’s been banned for life and he didn’t even win while doing it yeah it’s he’s like yeah I banned but I got this nice little Nest Egg here I just want a bunch of money again nope that’s shocking that he’s that bad has so many El he’s as bad at it as I am at prize picks and he’s on the field that doesn’t that makes me feel so much better there are so many times where I make a bet I’m like that’s so dumb I just lost and like God how could I even think that like go of course the game went this way like God you dummy that is absolutely crazy and in the clubhouse catching L’s you’re like a I think he’s 24 24 year old shortstop yeah he’s he’s a starter for the Padre’s and like like he’s over 200 bats on the year and last that was last year oh okay yeah yeah yeah and then all of a sudden it’s like man what are you doing you just threw away everything I get I get some of the guys who juice because you know like we’ve seen this throughout time the guys juice they come in they hit a bunch of home runs they get this monster contract and then they don’t live up to the contract but at least they got their money right but this is like totally different what are you doing you’re messing with the in I mean either way you’re messing with the Integrity of the game but at the same time at least there’s a like cause and effect that you get out of like we’ve seen historically out of some of these guys at juice and this is this is this is a guy who tore his ACL last July he was getting ready he was like on track to be returning relatively soon so he got Tes ACL last year with the Pirates got waved by Pittsburgh got claimed off waivers by the Padres who were his original team got it he’s like working his way back and now he’s done with the sport forever yeah that’s wild and he was one of I think five players today they got uh they got suspended he’s the only one that I think got a lifetime ban yeah including an Oakland A’s relieve pitcher who uh has been banned for a year did we we had a name I looked it up earlier Michael Smith or something something along those Lin very generic name uh for for a middle reliever in Major League Baseball um yeah so apparently there’s less of a penalty Michael Kelly Michael Kelly yeah there it is uh Michael Kelly Green and there’s less of a punishment if you don’t bet on your team yeah which is I think is is kind of odd given baseball’s history with this but um but this is a sport all the sports world now I mean we’ve seen it now players from every single like how many players from the NFL got suspended last year and then eight or something yeah and then we had the jonte porter situation in the NBA where he’s done for he’s been banned for life like this is I know it’s difficult but the these it’s so in our society right now like all of my my son’s friends play these games they’re they’re on their phones playing and and making insane uh like what I bets or or whatever you want to call them entries entries entries into daily fantasy sports but they’re doing it every day it’s wild I just that is mindboggling to me my son sent me a one of his buddies had had done like a four pick his four pick was like a uh Western Conference Finals player okay a WNBA player okay a PL player that needed 60 passes why would you not pick that and a dart player oh yeah no you got to pick a darts I’m like bro that’s the most random like at that point you’re just guessing I guess I get maybe what you’re looking is like the the hottest things yo for everything and then you’re like okay I’ll take that one I’ll take the hot hot hot hot I guess yeah because on prize picks they indicate there’s a little flame Emoji if a lot of people are taking yeah that particular Square uh maybe this is an opportunity for schools if high schoolers are legit going to be on prize picks doing the daily fantasy thing or if they’re going to be in legal betting States going to be on betting sites utilize it have a class talk about odds you could teach statistics in a way that would make it so much more interesting than anything any of those kids has ever done in a math class like hey you want to learn and then you can have a follow-up course you know you get like you get like English one and then English two and English and so on you could start with like basic gambling basic Sports wagering but then go into like financial management and all that and tie all of those things that aren’t currently taught in schools into things you’re teaching responsible betting at that point you’re teaching um if you do start winning at some kind of clip you’re teaching uh financial management good money management and what you do with that money how you invest it in a different way right U um right a more stable way uhhuh uh a less volatile way uh and and you’re teaching just B like math statistics yeah I think that I think that’s brilliant hey I took stats I took stats in college and it was an old school stats uh Professor who refused to use calculators and so there weren’t we weren’t sitting there and doing like crazy calculator calculations all the time oh my God but it’s like hey let’s figure out but he was a baseball guy he’s like okay we’re going to figure out how to do batting average we’re going to figure out how to build the formula for uh for an erra or on base percentage you know because they’re they’re functionally you can figure that figure it out and so um yeah that’s what we did we did all the time right so basic same basic kind of concept yeah like using Sports and things people like to only this wouldn’t be a random class that everybody has to take it would be like an elective yeah like hey instead of taking stats you can take gambling one instead of doing art yeah or building a a a bench a stool or a bench yeah you can build a parlay yeah you can figure out how to how to work a parlay what a parlay is uh basic betting vocabulary uh number two the A’s have requested as part of an agreement with the city of Los Angeles they basically have to have this agreement that they’re not going to leave um and within this agreement is a stipulation that the a are allowed to play up to eight games per year at a neutral site that is home games per year at a neutral site that is more than up to or more than double almost every other team who has such an agreement um Dave caval DA’s president has said that it would most Years be way less than that but they want to have that flexibility to go expand their brand and their footprint and show off their team and this and that and da d d da good idea or bad idea to while trying to get into Las Vegas saying that you’re going to play as many as eight games sometimes outside of Las Vegas well first of all I don’t think anyone wants to highlight the Oakland Athletics or the Las Vegas Athletics sure so I don’t think you’re going to have uh like foreign countries banging on your door for you to be the the team that they’re trying to bring not anymore and in play right the teams that went there San Diego and La played in Soul in in South Korea yep and the um Mets and Phillies two very big brands are playing in England okay they I just don’t think that the A’s are going to be somebody that someone is clamoring for number one number two from what I can tell that if you take away those eight games they don’t make enough money to pay back their part of the the financials at the new stadium which were required for there to for them to get the 380 million and so now they could come up short on that and you know like we talked about this you and I did the other day the the the talk of like like just doing away with the A’s just Contracting contract yeah and that there’s somebody who had put that out out there that there’s a possibility of contraction here yeah if there because I don’t think Major League Baseball wants them to be in a minor league ballpark for more than a couple of years yeah and if it looks like it’s G to there there’s going to be a hangup and now they’re looking at 2031 2032 where they might just be like all right pack up shop until this is done yeah absolutely wild that’s insane that is so insane yeah uh bad idea by the a by the way to go into Vegas with one foot out the door bad that’s terrible last one we got to go here but the last one it’s very very easy Christian mcaffrey has gotten a new contract from the 49ers it is a two-year contract it’s $24 million guaranteed over the next couple of years good idea or bad idea for the 49ers to lock up Christian mcaffrey yeah I’m gonna say that’s a good idea yeah it’s an easy easier everything yeah Easy Choice uh all right that’s it for good idea or bad idea thanks for playing along uh we got to hit a break we will talk what we going to get to oh Pro comps ESPN has some really fun player comps for the top 14 prospects in this year’s draft we are going to go through them we will have fun with that discussion uh that’s coming up next on ESPN 1320 Sacramento Sports Center Clear [Music] uh this mizuhara pleads guilty uh and it’s and it’s wild how much he’s pled guilty he is the former interpreter for baseball Superstar sh Otani um he is facing a maximum 33 years in prison yeah I read that before the show yeah um 43 years but now Major League Baseball is saying that uh that this is concluded that they’re they announced they’re closing the in investigation into the matter based on the thoroughness of the federal investigation that was made the information MLB collected and the criminal proceeding being resolved without being contested MLB considers shoh atani a victim of fraud and this matter has been closed good it’s over um Aldren J uh you did ask this before I would fire ten hog uh Eric ten hog um like the problem that I have with him is number one like they have a huge issue there with keeping people healthy which I don’t think is fully his fault but they do need to figure all that stuff uh uh anyway I I also think that um his inability to get along with people is really weird his his decisions to bench people and leave them out of the conversation forever the Jaden Sancho situation is as Jaden Sanchez uh well is is outlandish for me like you just can’t you can’t keep losing talented players and a lot of the guys that they’ve brought in and they’ve paid big money to or because he asked them to and if you didn’t know that Anthony has no right foot at all and that’s really difficult I don’t know I don’t know that’s tough uh Zack Kings Rock I’ve seen your your thing that you’re they call you NBA Guru Zach like three times maybe four you can check and oh wait there it is again you can tell me how many times so we can stat check me how many times I’ve seen it come through it might be four is it four or five just saying well I think shohi just has so much money that he doesn’t care oh hey we’re coming back everything you were saying just now by the way on what oh yeah I had no idea now back to the Insiders with James ham and Kyle Madson brought to you by Jiffy Lube on ESPN 1320 I assumed you were talking footy I was talking uh Manchester United stock specifically yeah Manchester United so Manchester United has been deciding for the last seven to 10 days since they won a cup uh whether to fire their manager Eric tin hog or not they have a new Investment Group that came in and is bought 25% from the glazers uh and yes the same glazers that owned the Tampa Bay uh Buccaneers forever um and and they’re trying to decide whether or not to fire their manager he’s made his case that look I had so many injuries um you know I think they started like 18 different back lines and that’s the problem that’s like starting 18 different back courts uh front front courts more like 18 different offensive lines oh my God during a season Jesus yeah so like the four guys on the backline everyone was always hurt like all season long and I mean they they had brought in a guy named Johnny Evans who’s like 35 and play there when he was young just to be like a locker room guy during training camp by guy yeah just during training camp though and then he ended up playing like like 25 matches during the season because they didn’t have have enough yeah it got that bad had to start yeah exactly exactly so um but there’s also some of the things that I I don’t like about him personally as a manager where he didn’t get along with a couple of players and then they get jettison and also in European soccer if you’re part of if you’re running the program you do have quite a a say in in what players you go out and get and he brought in a lot of players from his previous stop uh which I think was ax and the a few of those players that he brought in just weren’t good enough to play at the at the eepl level it’s just a different level of of soccer and you have now you have guys that were paid like $80 million and transfer fees to be brought in and you know you got a guy who who only has a left foot and like what do you do with a guy who only has a left foot when the level of soccer is so heavy sure that you know you have to be able to at least do something with your right foot yeah no so you’re ready to pack this guy into a rocket and launch him into the sun yeah I mean it it was a bad season for Manu and yeah you know and yeah they’re gonna play in the Euro league because they won the I think the FA Cup at the end of the season but outside of that like they they had a very very disappointing season bummer yeah so there’s our soccer talk for the year no not for the year we got uh don’t we have World Cup this year uh no that’s 26 26 what’s this year Euro Euro Euro C this year man I I told you I was in Europe well we started to tell that story oh Olympics or this year I’m dumb sorry go ahead yeah yeah yeah um I was in Europe for Euro Cup one year my goodness it was so much fun I bet yeah that’s incredible so we were in I was going to tell the story when we got interrupted I was in Frankfurt with uh my buddy and our wives were with us and we had to do laundry it had to be a laundry day so we said hey we’re going to walk down the street there’s a little Pub and we’re g to go see uh watch a little bit of the soccer match we’ll be back walk down the street we walk in and this is like full-on local bar nobody speaks any English at all we don’t speak any German it’s very awkward but they’re excited to have uh Americans in the building and they start bringing out the good liquor from behind the bar for us to take shots and next thing you know we can’t we can’t hardly see the TVs let alone find our way back down the street to the laundry mat the wives were not happy with us at all but we got to watch soccer and they sat in a laundry mat for an hour and a half worth it yeah we had a good time so yeah love watching European soccer uh especially when you’re in Europe my God I can’t even imagine yeah it’s like you go sick to a town square and everybody is dressed up everybody’s decked out everybody’s watching matches yeah it’s it’s good stuff that’s so fun I can’t wait I I I can’t wait to watch a World Cup game publicly here even I can’t even imagine I just I can’t wait for World World Cup here it’s gonna be amazing gonna be a great time y uh want to remind you before the World Cup are the NBA Finals begin which begin on Thursday we’re gonna carry the NBA finals for you right here on ESPN 1320 so if you can’t be in front of your TV no talk NBA draft comps unless you have WWE takes you want to lay on quick I have no W I don’t even know what you said there K I didn’t same it was like when I started talking soccer totally the football totally Jesse any wrestling takes is that a good card I got a thumbs up yeah all right my man uh all right let’s do that ESPN they released their top uh 14 their player comps Jeremy woood ESPN released his player comps the top 14 team prospects in this year’s draft I love player comps they’re always fun because whether they are useful or not I like seeing how people view players so the number one player on the board is Zachary reaker re rasare oh yeah he’s French okay um the high-end comp I’m I’m only going to do the number one and then I’ll go down to to guys who are more in the Kings range the highend comp here is Chris Middleton with more defense and the low-end comp is Trey Murphy I third like sure man guess okay his floor is Trey Murphy that’s nutty I think that means he’s really really really good yeah and that’s what we said about this draft is there’s no like clear-cut number one player yeah but that’s if you have a guy who might be Trey Murphy III is his low-end comp okay yeah go get that guy or a multi-time Allstar in Chris Middleton yeah but with better defense with more defense so not Chris Middleton I don’t know I don’t know let’s start at Dalton connect he’s a player we’ve talked about quite a bit for the Kings he is number eight on ESPN’s top 100 Big Board the high-end comp boang bogdanovich okay and the low-end comp is Max struce I think I’m out for the Kings this is one of those things I I I always like why don’t they say his high-end comp is Cory kissper his lowend comp I no his lowend comp is cor Corey kissper as high in comp as Kyle corver like I have no idea because I mean like I I actually want you to comp him to somebody like the NBA is a broad area I would like to see you find some other name that just isn’t a white guy who shoots the ball although hey you know what with dton connect specifically I said it was out if the kings of valuated him and he gets to them at 13 and they say this guy can give us 12 minutes A Night in the playoffs series or we think he can get there in year one okay I would take him if they thought his highend comp is Kevin herder and his so that’s where I’m like like what are we doing here gimmer for death that’s right that’s I think I’m in that’s right okay yeah I think I’m there I think I’m there uh Nicola topic is number nine he plays for uh Mega Mis in the Adriatic League he is currently projected to go number 10 to the Utah Jazz the high-end comp is joshh giddy the low-end comp is Tomas satoransky I am out I am out on this player based on those comps yeah I mean again you’re talking about relatively slow bigger point guards yeah um you know like decent game managing point guards but like relatively slow uh big yeah now if they would have thrown in Alex Caruso as one of his comps I would have been now it’s interesting now I’m interested seriously I I would have been but I just don’t if you’re taking these comps at face value I I’m out I don’t want them uh the next one is the number 10 player projected to go number eight to the Spurs TJ ton Salon oh Saloon yeah I I like I like his game like highend comp Jeremy Grant and Kyle kozma I’m in if he can be both of them at the same time the low end comp is moark oh okay look I I I would be hey if he was if he was 20 I’d be in how old is he oh yeah yeah see that’s really tough and like how are we supposed to judge an 18-year-old and know who he might be especially like that range that range of player like I I might get stat checked on this but mooh harkless averages like six or seven points a game first career oh boy you better be right where the other guys you’re talking about average you know have hit the 20 point mark multiple times in their career so that’s a really broad range Mo harkas what number did you say I said between six and seven I think more like7 Mo Harless for his career averages 6.9 points per game James ham you’ve done it you redeemed yourself moh harkless no and this is look this is this is the thing and I think this is a good example of why when we’re talking about these prospects an 18 year-old probably just kind of goes by the wayside because the Jeremy woo who wrote this for ESPN writes this at the end uh his flashes on both ends of the floor portend upside in the mold of a grant or kusma but there’s a ways to go here and while he seems to be on a positive developmental trajectory without leaps in the skill and field departments Saloon could end up as more of a backend rotation player rather than a starter and the Kings aren’t going to offer an opportunity for those for that development in the field and skill departments no that is a player who just needs to get out on the court and play as much as humanly possible I totally age that opportunity is not there he’s a player that’s gonna spend a lot of time in the G League early in his career and the Kings have taken Leaps and Bounds with their player player development right I think Dutch gayy has done a great job of of bringing along a lot of young players the Keon Ellis development the Keegan Murray development like changing Keegan Murray’s body style like that quick where he doesn’t look at all like Marvin Williams anymore like his body looks very different he’s narrower through the hips he’s bigger uh like up like his he’s um like yolked like he’s added a bunch of muscle mass upper body so yeah I mean I think that like player comps change all the time I I just don’t know that I’ve seen a player take such a huge like physical transformation so quickly like I I’ve said this before Jason Thompson I thought was a one player that every single year he looked like a different player like he worked so hard on his body and you know o over the course of time he worked so hard on his body to change who he was when he came into the league bulky 250 pounds and his feet face the wrong way when he shot a jump shot and then by the end of his career he’s again yolked 6’1 235b like like Beast yeah so yeah but you don’t usually see it from year one to year two where a guy just completely changes his body like okay doesn’t usually happen yeah um Ron Holland is the number 11 ranked player and now we’re getting into the range of of guys who could really get I like Ron Holland but uh the high-end comp here is RJ Barrett the low-end comp is Josh Jackson he spent last season with the g-league ignite um I I don’t if RJ Barrett is the high-end comp maybe RJ Barrett is gonna be a great player in the NBA someday but I just don’t I don’t I don’t I don’t like it okay I get that and I would say like RJ has always been a guy that you kind of are slightly concerned about as motor and I don’t know you see it so much on the court as much as you see it in his body like he’s still still after a couple of years in the league too loose too like non-refined as a player but look at the window there I I’ve looked at him a little bit because I like him as a prospect uh and I would even say he’s got some like kaminga game in him sure where he needs to play yeah but he needs to play and he was able to like show up and drop like 18 points a game for the G League I mean he was really really good as like a young kid right right right but what does he do efficiency wise what does he do as a shooter can he consistently play defense again these are questions that he will only be able to answer by playing yes and this is just a really these are really good examples of why when we talk about prospects why the kings are going to go with more of what they know rather than a if they had a more complete roster if they were looking at yeah hey you know what we got 10 guys locked in with an 11th guy we feel pretty good about out if if he needs to play a few minutes and you can just stash these guys and let them go play in the G league and that’s it but if you’re the Kings and you’re making this pick you have to add Talent every everything everything comes back to that I would I would say the kings are not in the point of their build where they can go select Gerald Wallace which is what they did back in the day they selected Gerald Wallace they kept him on their bench and unfortunately they had the expansion Draft when the Bobcats were created and he was selected they had to choose between putting him or I think Doug Christie up H and like they didn’t want to lose Doug um but they were it was like a game they were playing with is a contract high enough that the Bobcats won’t select him and they decided jald Wallace um and they lost him and and Gerald went on to be a very good player I think he made an All-Star team yeah he was good really fun but that’s the type of player we’re talking about with Ron Holland like can he develop and how much time do you have and the Kings aren’t in their build where they can just spend a number 13 pick and have him go develop for two years and not play uh last one here before we get to the handoff with Damen Barling Cody Williams from Colorado shooting guard small forward type high-end comp Auto pter Jr low-end comp Troy Brown Jr yeah this one’s weird because I think Troy Brown Jr to me I think he’s 6’5 and auto porter is like 67 68 yeah like that in itself is very different also their body styles are very different auto porter is is built like I Tori uh not torum prints uh ton Prince you know he’s like long he’s like wiry where I never thought that of Troy Brown I always thought Troy Brown is is pretty wellb built for so like even the body and that’s where I I talk about like body styles like if we start looking at like what’s it tid Jane Saloon like his body you watch him he looks more like a Kyle Anderson body frame wise so like I’m not going to compare him like directly but that’s where I start sort of my look like what does he look like on the court how does he move all that stuff and then where do I build my player comp so that to me is a really weird player comp like if you were to say auto porter and then again use like Tony Snell or or maybe not even that like someone else who’s really really like long and and like wiry built sure and that’s without me even looking at the player that we’re comping him to like I’d want to look at him first before I look at auto porter cuz that’s where my brain instantly goes you’re GNA compare him auto porter I’m gonna see that he looks like like he’s built like auto porter it’s time for the handoff Daman Barling dowlo and KC coming up well just dowlo today coming up at noon what’s going on man love this time of year why is that James talking about player bodies and comps always swivel on the hip swiveling the hips what was the other one junk in the it wasn’t junk in the trunk what was it sand in his pants oh no no um no um you have a particular phrasing for a player with a big ass and I can’t remember who what what the phrasing is yeah I’m trying it’s not junk in the trunk something thick something in the shorts heavy in the shorts heavy in the shorts that’s what it is heavy in the shorts draft time with James ham baby that’s a I think that’s a Bob Thorton yeah I think it is too yeah Bob I love Bob he’s fantastic did not realize that there was NBA draft terminology the same way there is NFL draft terminology I had no idea oh yeah of course there is I know it I feel like the NFL draft analysis Community it’s just a race to see who can come up with the most wild things to say about a player yeah that that happens you know I mean people got to fire off their takes and their comps and no but I mean like like like heavy in the shorts which is insane it’s actually it’s light in the shorts we were corrected that’s what I miss Ma who well what then What’s the phrase light in the shorts is what they would say about guys who like scal or or uh Willie KY Stein who has big tall long skinny guys yeah that or even Marvin baggley that you have a tough time like building them up and they can’t swing their booty to go get in the post and you know push somebody around so it’s a little ass versus a big ass like I I don’t know but light in the shorts implies heavy in the shorts also exists yes it would make sense like I don’t know yeah it makes sense to me yeah but then we’d have to determine what have maybe maybe they can’t move because they’re too big yeah oh I don’t know this is out of control this is a badane very bad Edition hey do you want to talk about literally anything else what you have for dinner last night pretty much um we we’ve been so we decided that whether the Kings pick or not we we have to probably talk some about the NBA draft yeah for sure um are you of the mind that when they pick at that spot there should be a specific type of player they are going for or should they just go regardless of position if the number one player on their board is a point guard and they’re like yeah this guy is a dog we love this guy uh do are you going and getting that guy are you going yeah hey there’s a worst player but he’s 68 and he’s athletic but yeah my feelings on this is always the same like how do you grade the players out so if the point guard that you’re talking about there is graded at a if we’re just talking on a scale from 10 and I’m just going to make up numbers here so play along if you have that player graded as a nine and the um position fit guy or whatever is graded at like a 6.5 then you then you take the guy who’s graded at a nine yeah like you take the point guard like you can’t like in in in your analysis and your scout work and all of the work that you guys put into evaluating these players if there’s that steep of a drop off you have to go with the player that’s better if the drop off is like nine to eight to me yeah then then you can then you can go with the position fit because obviously you still think very very highly of that individual you have been graded relatively close uh to a player at a position maybe that you don’t have a great need for so there’s there’s that there’s that you know thinking that you can work with but once you get into a falloff and how you’ve ated this work you’ve got to you’ve got to trust your your Scouts you got to trust your evaluators you got to trust all of the work that you put into this process and know that you’ll be able to find space for uh for that player at at at at the point guard position in the scenario you’re presented yeah and I was telling Kyle like I I think with the rubric the kings use there are other things that they add in that change like what we would look at a player so let’s say we are looking at Ron Holland who you know again 18 years old and then we’re looking at like a 21 22y old like the kid from Colorado that you just brought up yeah like the Kings we know what they’re they wait more towards mature prospects someone that they’re not going to wait for and so it’s part of the rubric that they that they build that they aren’t going to wait for guys that they’re going to go with more mature players and you can be really mature at 181 19 and it shows up on the court and you see it you’re like oh look that guy’s got it but there all most of those players need way more time than somebody who’s 21 22 23 and you’re you’re going to give up a little bit you’re going to give up ceiling to to raise floor and and I think that that’s where the Kings kind of Live And so when when I’m looking at players for the Kings I add that into my my understanding so yeah like a lot of people are really high on Dalton connect he could be a guy that if they do draft a 13 that they would select because he’s a more mature player same kid the same thing with the kid from Colorado older Prospect so I’m GNA right up Mon’s alley it feels like yeah I’m almost going to take out a couple of these young prospects and just say like look I think they’re better players but I also don’t think that the Kings would draft them at all like the Kings need now like now matters so much more than what that player is goingon to be in five years yeah yeah it does you just might not get now in the draft like I don’t I don’t know how much you’re like and maybe you will which would be amazing especially at 13 but well and you’re not you’re not looking for a for a starter you’re looking for can this guy give us can this guy be Christian Brown and you’re one be Derrick Lively be Derrick Lively and you’re one where he just he’s on the court and contributing I don’t I don’t no I don’t think so either I don’t think so either uh what are you flying solo again today I am yeah unless of course you want to stick around for a few minutes and talk ay yeah I was just trying to go over the particulars of the deal and I’ve I’ve got I got questions uh I have questions I I’ve I have questions particularly about the second year the second year was a little confusing to me because only eight million of it is like guaranteed at signing so like what triggers the other roughly eight million to be his sure so uh I’ll give you 15 minutes to go research all of that and then come back with your findings okay can’t wait I look forward not that I’m sure you don’t have a massive amount of writing to do for Niners wire dude I was you should have seen me midow I was delegating like crazy I love it can hey can you do this can you do that I was oh it was great I got other people working for me I love it get let’s go uh Damen Barling dowlo and KC coming up next on ESPN 1320 just DLo today on ESPN 1320 Sacramento sports later all right we’re clear guys thank you so much chat mover in God B himself acknowledge me casy out again today man um I don’t know when Casey GNA be back maybe tomorrow maybe the next day maybe the day after that maybe next week maybe maybe never who knows who knows place your bets I don’t know canny down for the count thought he was going to kick out at two and a half we always thought you’d hop in the brown truck maybe it was him maybe he did maybe he did I saw he was firing off Caitlyn Clark tweets maybe he hit me today was like hey can I join when you do the Kaylin Clark segment I was like I didn’t plan on doing that again yeah brother we did 45 minutes check the podcast like And subscribe please and he was like oh I saw it in the rundown and I thought was he looking at yesterdays or maybe he saw that I put some notes in for TK and Jason Jones obviously they have thoughts on it so uh I’m not sure man Casey might join the show today I have no idea um it’s a shoot when we’re not together we don’t talk to each other um other than hey man not going to make it in today that’s pretty much the extent uh of our conversations over the last few days so uh I don’t know maybe Casey will be with us maybe he won’t I have no idea I’m not sure when he’ll return though um he’s been a little under weather family been a little under the weather so uh hopefully our our brother gets uh healthy quick and Jesse can go back to beating him in Stellar games of uh pocket watching and now zabo’s going through the videos the truth is this is all a cover up this is a lot like the uh the David Stern gambling suspension of Michael Jordan Casey’s actually been suspended after further uh investigations by Zabo into into old videos and recent uh video evidence that has emerged um yeah Casey’s been sent home you know what like you bring that up and all that like he needs to hand in all his technology too who’s to say he’s not been on Spa track the last few days it’s it’s very possible memorizing stat yeah it’s already been two days where we haven’t even thought about it it’s very possible uh he just he just text me he’s one the Casey is probably a top three worst texter of all time like you could text Casey something Monday and get like an a laughing emoji on Thursday yeah I can’t do that like bro I’m not sure what talk I don’t even remember what I sent you last time but he just text said he’s gonna jump on when trista’s here so uh I guess instead of Casey helping me fill some more time he’ll just join us when trist’s here shout out sh shout out to shout out to casy he is just oblivious to all of this just no clue what it’s like in here uh but my man will be with this coming up iess I guess at 2 o’clock when TK he just ready for game day I guess I guess man I guess that’s all it is I mean and that’s what H like it oh he just happened to not be feeling well when there’s no NBA Finals being played there wasn’t a single WNBA game sight last night there was no baseball that I was interested like there was nothing last night yeah yesterday was tough oh it was brutal fired up the PS4 yesterday and then I saw and if I had been paying attention to this quick enough clipped clipped is on the first two episodes of clipped are on Hulu now was it out there today or was it out there yesterday so I don’t so the debut day is today it’s June 4th they’re available now but a lot of times those things like they’re like June 4th as in 9900 p.m. Pacific Standard time they’ll hit the platform yeah yeah that used to happen a lot with power like the Power episode would drop all Fridays Fridays Fridays but it would drop on Thursdays at nine o’clock so I I I didn’t even realize it till this morning so no NBA finals tonight no I’ll watch that Casey’s not back tomorrow I’ll watch that we’ll do a segment oh good first two episodes of clipped are out on uh FX on Hulu uh so I’m I’m all about that and this is this is where we’re at like so many people are discussing the the Caitlyn Clark situation and what’s going on in the wmba and how maybe this is being made into something bigger than it really is and when you realize yo we’ve had six or seven days between the end of the Conference Finals and the start of the NBA Finals we’re still not there we’ve got three weeks to go into the NBA draft we got three weeks and some change to go before the start of uh NBA free agency we’re we’re pocket watching in the NFL with contracts coming out we’ve got the Christian mcaffrey deal coming out today we got the Justin Jefferson deal coming out yesterday we’re watching for Brandon auk we’re watching to see what happens with Tyreek Hill you got mandatory mini camps going on basically you’ve got a whole bunch of nothing happening right now and it’s forcing people to create conversations that maybe aren’t exactly there if this Caitlyn Clark situation unrolls the same exact way but it’s like in the middle of September instead of at the beginning of July or beginning of June excuse me it’s a whole different conversation you think First Take is spending 40 minutes on a on a on a on a on a shove or a perceived hard foul or not while the Dallas Cowboys are playing football games no chance not while Dak Prescott has a microphone in front of him absolutely not with the Los Angeles Lakers getting ready to report to training camp you think they’re gonna do that no man and that that’s funny because I think that was Monica mcnutt’s overall point yesterday that Stephen a completely missed that I think most people completely missed is you’ve had the opportunity to talk about this why other stuff was going on but you chose not to you’re talking about it right now because there’s literally nothing else to talk about what Dak Prescott story can you manufacturer and this is for a national talk show that has like a cycle of five topics you’ve got the NBA Finals like how much more can you spend on the Jason Tatum Jaylen Brown situation y’all have destroyed that storyline how much more can you talk about Luca’s greatness because you got to fill time again tomorrow not to mention you’re gonna have a show on Thursday a pregame show on Thursday a post show on Thursday you’re gonna have a multitude of podcasts to do you’ve got nothing right now well let’s talk about Caitlyn Clark because it covers it covers basis for a long potentially compell conversation of gender race bullying all of these different things when in reality it’s just like all right all right man we keep it moving we keep it moving and it’s just it is very very very literally the absolute worst time of the year and I can’t remember a time where we had this much time between the Conference Finals and the start of the NBA finals like this is an eternity this borderline feels like a college football national championship where you’re waiting for a month for this game to be played you’re handing out Heisman Trophies and uh Fiesta bowls and Chick-fil-A bowls and all of these other bowls are happening and meanwhile you’re just waiting for the big game to get here yeah they need to fix that I think well I don’t really know what they could do though maybe instead of seven day break five days or something well I I I I I think because of the because of the multitude of TV Partners involved in this you have to set a day like you have to set a day for the NBA Finals to start yeah that’s true because I was going to say like maybe you’re just flexible about oh Conference Finals ended early let’s just bump it up a little bit but more that goes into that then right and the issue with that is like you know TNT is in play there’s so many different entities uh at play that I think it’s difficult to create a flexible start plus you’ve got to you’ve got to sell those ads man and you want that Thursday night you want that Thursday night because you want to make sure you have the weekend you don’t want to start on a Tuesday because the Tuesday make it a you want that game two right there in the prime time spot of the weekend and so here we are left to search for conversations today we’re going to be searching for conversations tomorrow and then we’ll be headed into the NBA Finals finally all while these mandatory mini camps are going on which is really nothing more mandatory mini camps in the NFL are essentially just what sort of contract drama is going to unfold we know Tyreek Hill wants to renegotiate his contract he said today I want to make sure that I’m a dolphin for life we know that Brandon auk wants a new contract Tyreek Hill is at practice he’s talking to Media obviously there’s a very big difference Tyreek Hill is under contract he signed a deal he just wants to restructure it because now his deal looks awful given the light of the only receiver in the League who is in the category of Justin Jefferson is probably Tyreek Hill and he’s just he signed a deal that right now could be anywhere from8 to10 million below what his market value should be he certainly should be making more than AJ Brown in my opinion he should be making more than just about anybody and he should be on the same tier as Justin Jefferson then you got situation with Brandon auk Brandon auk who is not at practice sticking with wide receivers we learned CD lamb is not at mandatory mini camp and that’s really all mandatory mini camp is it’s a way to tell the dramatic stories of whatever contract disputes are unfolding and that’s where we’re at there was questions of whether Christian mcaffrey was going to show up Christian mcaffrey showed up got paid now what’s going to happen with Brandon auk what’s going to happen with CD lamb there were reports yesterday immediately following the Justin Jefferson deal that well Cowboys are they’re they’re motivated now they got a number to work with now they see what the market is now that the the top has been set you can work with that if you’re CD lamb if you’re CD Lamb’s people if you’re the Dallas Cowboys you can work with that the very very top of the pyramid has been set now you have numbers to work with and you’re not operating so blindly if you’re the Dallas Cowboys I think the San Francisco 49ers were ever operating blindly as it pertains to Brandon auk but now you have a greater sample size you know you got a Jamar Chase situation sitting out there you got a there’s a there there are two situations going on in Cincinnati and that you’ve got the Jamar Chase situation you got the T Higgin situation those are very very different situations everybody on the planet knows Jamar Chase is about to get paid T Higgins though T Higgins may be on the outside looking into this thing not that he’s not a very good ball player not that he doesn’t deserve a contract but he’s he’s got a more difficult battle to fight than Jamar Chase does he’s almost too good for his own good on that team because you have to pay Jamar and T Higgins is good enough to where he commands a certain amount of money and it’s just we don’t have that for you right now yeah he just might not get it and that’s man that’s a perfect way of explaining it he just could be stuck because of his teammates but we did see and maybe that’s where that’s where Jamar Chase’s contract becomes so important because Jaylen W’s deal looks really really different because of what Tyreek Hill got and now Tyreek Hill is looking at it like yo oops Drew rosenhouse sitting there like that’s my bad that stupid look on his face on Miami radio just stuck but there’s a situation where T Higgins can absolutely get paid he just can’t get paid first Jamar got to get paid first we’ll come back we’ll talk about the uh Christian mcaffry deal with the San Francisco 49ers I had mentioned to Kyle Matson during the handoff I’ve got some questions about it there are some things I’ve onshore out I got the floral breakdown uh there’s obviously a lot of legit money uh coming Christian McCaffrey’s way the second uh his pen touches paper but I do have a question about that second year and don’t be fooled too much by the numbers that are out there uh this deal can end really really quickly uh for San Francisco and that’s probably not surprising given the fact Christian mcaffry is what 28 years old 28 29 years old you get two more years out of them you’re talking 30 31 years old yeah that’s kind of how it works in the running back world but we’ll dive into the weeds with this Christian mcaffrey contract when we return and Jesse and I think James both brought up something yesterday as it pertains to the Dallas Mavericks and the Sacramento Kings how close are the Kings to being the Dallas Mavericks we’ll explain what sparked that conver ation and we’ll try to dive into what all of that could mean for Sacramento headed into next season appreciate you so much for being with us we’re just getting started it’s Ste M Casey brought to you by Sky River Casino here on Sacramento sports leader ESPN 1320 will Z what’s happening baby C and Pete what’s happening man uh man I hope so I have I have been procrastinating on really really diving into the draft like I I keep like this weekend I started to read some stuff and I honestly was like I don’t want to [ __ ] do this right now close the computer was looking at stuff last night cuz Lord there was nothing else to do I don’t feel like doing this right now closed it again um just do us all a favor and trade the pick already right at some point I I gotta stop doing that like I have to I have to read up on these different players and I don’t know what I’m gonna find out to be honest with you uh Carlos appreciate you man I’m doing good dog appreciate you being here doing good doing good still laughing that uh at a four hours Casey decided he was going to join when tristal was on that’s just [ __ ] hilarious won’t even go to 243 either oh 228 just spectacular uh scooter wife and I are hitting up best oh let’s go man hey y’all are in for a treat and if you uh partake in adult beverages the smoked old fashioned is very very very much worth it uh that’s a good dinner man you’re going to you’re going to have a nice time out there at Sr Prime that’s a good good dinner I don’t know if there’s anything many things better than like a solid steak or anything like that yeah a good dinner man a good dinner for sure n lazy I told you I was off that stuff gotta be man can’t can’t can’t can’t can’t have those I was doing that stuff daily too I need to bring in some BCAAs though I should have should have had that oh that’s that’s kind of a different take T says don’t trade the pick all right all right all right all right we’ll talk more about that well mushrooms look good Dr David they they look they look good well I didn’t say I was trying to quit caffeine I see I’m not I’m not quitting caffeine I’m just not taking so damn much my my my caffeine intake was was too high I used to drink when I was at the peak of my coffee drinking Powers mhm when I lived in Arizona I would do two venty cold Brews a day venty is the the well Trenta is the biggest one but vent is a normal large okay it’s an obene amount of coffee and how many was it again two yeah get one in the morning one in the afternoon okay just insane I think companies just so casually put a ton of caffeine in their drinks now that’s really what I like I was looking at those sales oh it’s 140 M grams of caffeine like that’s a lot like that’s my pre-workout drink like levels what’s the is it Logan Paul Logan Paul yeah that is like illegal now or not illegal but the FDA is evaluating it because it’s insane oh I didn’t I I didn’t know that or like kids aren’t supposed to be drinking it or something like that that stuff does not taste good yeah that’s is it bad it’s like sugar water with some blueberry two oh 200 milligrams of caffeine that’s a lot that’s so much caffeine that is a t and yes kids should not be taking in 200 milligrams of caffeine adult absolutely not absolutely not unless you’re about to go run a marathon or lift a couple thousand pounds that I don’t know that you need that 200 milligrams in a 12 ounce can that is six times the amount of caffeine in a comparable can of cocacola I feel like that would make me like sweat yeah people talk about soup good maret no I want soup was okay that’s a wild I want soup I don’t think I’ve ever uttered that phrase before like Ramen or F or this Mexican restaurant and does manulo kind of soup oh no that’s more of a stew to me okay yeah we’re definitely in a weird place today Kyle wants soup I just find you know it’s also 100 degrees outside it’s it’s nice and cool in here though and I see people I see people in the chatty how sponsored by Matthew’s mattress talking about F and ramen and things of that nature and it’s like man I do love those things never really been super big into that stuff that tracks salute um Kyle Matson kind enough to uh spend a couple of minutes with us as we’ve got some uh news regarding the San Francisco 49ers Christian mcaffrey had a couple of years left on his deal though you never really know what’s real and what’s not uh with NFL contracts but he has signed a contract extension and Christian mcaffry 28 question mark or 29 28 turning 29 before the season 27 turning 28 well there’s that all right basically we don’t know when we’re going to have to Google it so that’s yeah no I got it right now he’s obviously 27 he turns 28 in three days okay okay so he’s about to turn 28 years old so he’s he’s getting to that number where um franchises throw running backs into the garbage and so the so so the so the details of this contract like the particulars really track he gets a signing bonus right out the gate of 14.2 million uh his base salary for the upcoming season is $1.2 million obviously that doesn’t matter he’s got a per game roster bonus uh of $500,000 that’s you know he’ll He he’ll be able to accumulate some decent dollars there but the thing that really got my attention because I figured this was you know probably a a a shortterm deal was his 2025 year where there’s $14 million there which is you know everyone was really focused on you know scratching you know about you know 30 potentially $40 million that’s that’s that’s a big deal for a running back but only 8.5 million is fully guaranteed at signing have you been able to like dive through this contract at all and figure out what what some of this stuff means and how does it get to 14 million uh if 8.5 is guaranteed um no I I guess it’s maybe an additional 8.5 guaranteed on top of what he was going to get maybe but it’s basic this isn’t like a monster it basically just guarantees money he was very likely to get anyway right that’s that’s all this is at least that’s that’s from what I understand this isn’t some Monumental reset of the market this isn’t like the Niners are upending their their future Financial plans for Christian mcaffrey I think they just they gave him a little bit more money well he had no guarant right like he had no guarantees on the upcoming deal which is why like this is but he was gonna be with the team like he was going to play he was going to get that money he they weren’t going to cut him right you know but now he just has that security where if he does get hurt or if something if something bad happens to him or if he suddenly forgets how to play football that he has that that guaranteed dollars he has a base salary in 2027 of $16.8 million I just find that humorous because there’s always a point when you well there’s just always a point when you look at contracts and you go oh that’s going to be the year he’s not with the team anymore or he will have re structured a contract which restructuring a a contract for a player at that time who would be 31 years old at the running back position would be pretty extraordinary yeah gon probably do that right but once you look into the year toe of all of these deals you can always get to the point like we did this with Tyreek Hill the other day you always get to the point where all right it’s either uh restructure or cut that’s it because he’s not getting $6.8 million in no three seasons no I doubt it and if he is the ners will be thrilled if is maybe the ners won a couple of Super Bowls by exactly Christian mcaffry is still that productive they’re fine giving him whatever he wants yeah no it’s is just something like it’s this was such a layup type of move uh he just won offensive player of the year you’re trying to bring Brock py along and you’re still trying to win Super Bowls and Christian mcaffry is a huge reason that Brock P has had his much success as he’s had so you have to keep that guy around and it didn’t cost him a lot to do it and it’s one of those things where it’s good to front it’s good to get all of this money to Christian mcaffrey now because Brock P’s still very cheap for another two seasons now you can work on Brock P’s deal this off season but it’s not really gonna have much of an effect on your books until 26 the following following year right because he has two cheap years left right yeah correct this year so this year so his third year you’re eligible for an extension after year three m and then you’re a free agent after year four on a on a rookie deal like he’s on so he can sign an extension this off season and but and so what will happen in that extension is next football season after this one the the following football season he’ll still make 50 bucks but he will have already signed a contract that uh probably threw him somewhere in the vicinity of $90 million the second his pen touched paper and his contract that that his base salary the next year is still 50 bucks right then the following season that’s when it kicks in is when it when it changes for the salary cap his cap hit next year so 2025 this year it’s 1,425 this is Brock this his cap hit yeah for Brock prie the year after that it is $1,192 153 his pro-rated signing bonus in all four of his Seasons $119,000 hey salute man it’s a good that’s a good dollar figure 19,000 there’s going to be a significantly more amount of zeros on that signing bonus number oh my God it’s going to be insane in a year if he comes out and plays because look he it was easy to forget that he had major elbow surgery last off season so not only did he have to come back and and play after that but be he didn’t get it was his first full offseason as an NFL player didn’t get to do anything and he came out and performed as well as he did so there’s a there’s a world I don’t know if we’re in it but there’s a world where Brock pie comes out next year and is like significantly better sure and if that’s the case then I I I he’s he’s gonna make 5560 million a year and it I I I it’s it’s one thing that I do love about sports and I I I love about like athletes in these moments for these guys because there was a time where Steph your boy was the best player on the planet like unquestionably the best player on the planet and in the midst of all of that NBA wise he was working for a very reasonable contract and in the midst of being like you think of like Steph Curry and and and under arour and all of these different things and again he’s he’s a two-time MVP he’s all of these different things and you realize in the midst of all of this he’s about to change a con he’s about to sign a contract that is legitimately life-changing like he’s going from what was like a 40 some odd million dollar contract million four years 44 million and then to a $200 million contract five years 20 million it’s like even even a dude who’s eaten yeah who is set is a about to experience this massive influx of dollars that is such a Far Cry from what’s about to happen to Brock pie imagine imagine what would happen if you went from $44,000 to $200,000 like that would change people’s lives incredibly then you talk about Steph going from 44 to 200 that’s like oh my God but then you talk about Brock pie who’s in the Bay area by the way so Brock’s contract let me pull it back up here Brock’s contract was four years $3.6 million so there’s four years three there’s a about four about4 million there’s a reasonable scenario for California agent there’s a reasonable scenario where Brock P’s barely a millionaire at this point BR he’s got roommates right and not because he’s like yeah my buddies we’re like no man he’s got and he’s probably bet he’s got endorsements now like I’m sure he’s he’s doing fine we’re not crying for Brock pie right but to your point he goes from making his first contract $4 million like you said less agent fees less taxes where he’s like not even buying a house in San Francisco so he’s gonna make 5560 million a year on his next deal he’s gonna sign he’s probably gonna sign the richest contract in history oh because that’s how it works yeah typically I think I think it really so Beerman and I got into this on on Candlestick Chronicles subscribe wherever you get Podcast and we got into this the other day where he was like well he’s going to make 50 plus million and I was like no he’s not $50 million annually is Jaylen Herz Lamar Jackson Justin Herbert and Joe burrow at the time and then Jared gof got 53 I went oh oh that’s just so that is that is kind of the going right now but I am interested to see if he doesn’t take a a pretty significant leap as a just individual playmaker this year where he is doing more things he does a lot of stuff out of structure right now but there’s still he gets away with a lot of like bad throws and bad decisions so he’s got he got pretty lucky you can go to the the playoff game against Green Bay he threw an interception into is it Darnell Savage I think just right between the two and a six on his jersey just dropped it so he’s gotten away with with a lot of mistakes as a as a quarterback so far and if that continues into next year where they’re looking at his tape and going man there’s still a lot of mistakes I do wonder if they’d try and keep it under 50 but on the other hand but on the other hand way but on there’s no way to like right because if he throws for 4, 4500 yards and 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and they go to the NFC title game in the Super Bowl again his agent’s going to walk in with Joe bur’s contract and go we’ll start here like that yeah I think that’s what you’re doing anyways maybe I think I I don’t think there there aren’t very when you’re in a when you’re in a certain tier of that quarterback class or the quarterback position I should say there’s not really uh it’s like it it’s very literally I’m next I’m I’m the next contract up so I’m for a year or two years or three years I’m gonna be the highest paid player at this position yeah which because you’re a quarterback not only are you the highest paid player in that position you’re the highest paid player in the league and there’s I don’t think there’s anything we’ve seen because you talked about uh you used comps of like jayen Jaylen was like 51 million or something like that right yeah 51 a year 110 guaranteed okay yeah you you talk about taking leaps I don’t think like like Brock don’t need to take no leaps what leaps did Jaylen take Jaylen was good and and I’m I’m one that actually thinks Jaylen still is good but I don’t think Jaylen had this like massive leap it’s like no he’s he’s good well I don’t even think Joe bur he took he took a pretty massive leap the year he got paid okay he got paid last offseason so there was 2022 he was an MVP candidate last year and then got paid okay so I get I I get it and I I’m I’m on board I I think that Brock’s going to annually get 55 is in that range um the only and that only puts Joe burrow above him yeah in in annual average annual value but then you but then you talk guarantees Deshawn Watson’s up there at 230 which is wild he’s the Monty Williams but you have Joe burrow at 146 and a half million guaranteed I know it’s a lot of numbers and it’s you’re probably going to see Brock p in that Lamar and Justin Herbert guaranteed range of 140 150 million and that’s just kind of what it’s going to be unless uh he regresses pretty significantly and some of those uh lucky plays quote unquote start not going his way and now all of a sudden his production’s a little different now all of a sudden they’re losing in the first round of the playoffs or missing the Playoffs that’s when I think the conversation changes but still don’t think it does because what’s the alternative would you You’re Gonna Go a different direction maybe I don’t think that I don’t think that’s a he was the last pick in the draft no that’s that’s I don’t know if you’d heard that no I did I’ve I’ve I’ve heard that a time or two how did the thing go where you moved up to get the guy at the top of the draft poorly yeah exceedingly poorly okay so the most poorly actually I’m sorry are we going Brandon Allen like who’s still there Josh dos it’s Josh do season baby no I no I I I get what you’re saying but if if he I this is s if he regresses in some significant way then I don’t think he’s getting 50 plus million dollars a year because I think the ners are going to look and go uh you just got significantly worse and now all of a sudden the optimism that you’re going to be able to carry this team post Debo Samuel post Christian mcaffrey Post George KD did my mic just go out or did my headphones just go out your headphones just go okay great perfect uh we’re back um the the the idea that all of a sudden we’re going to be able to carry this offense without those guys now we got doubts cool my client still better than Jaylen Herz Jared Goff and Justin okay then go get it on the open market oh I bet he could I bet he wouldn’t I bet he could I bet he could but again I think he’s gonna be fine I think he’s gonna produce like crazy I think he’s gonna get 55 plus million annually and he’s gonna get 150 million guaranteed and unless they sabotage him like they did with Lamar oh good point which maybe maybe run a bunch of QB Powers with him see if he can bust up his ankle the difference is Brock has an agent Lamar did didn’t and I felt like Lamar probably pissed a lot of people off in that process yeah Lamar signed a massive contract with an agent I think that bothers some people yeah good for him though yeah let’s stay in the contract conversations though because Justin Jefferson just signed a needle moving deal at the wide receiver position now this is interesting because no shade but Brandon auk’s not that but now we have like a we have a barometer right we have we have the guy who’s clearly the best wide receiver in the NFL MH with a contract and we know what those numbers are now we’re starting to see like AJ Brown numbers shake out J you know we we we saw Jaylen wad you know we’re waiting for Jamar Chase we’re waiting for you know a handful of other guys you know does Tyreek Hill wind up getting a new deal so you kind of have a you kind of have a high and you kind of to have a low how does Brandon iuk fit in in in the wide receiver markets specifically I think man it’s going to be it’s going to be fascinating because I don’t think Justin Jefferson I don’t think he’s realistically going to go uh I need something north of that Justin Jefferson can’t you can’t he’s the Jefferson’s the best receiver in the league you had a thousand yards last year he played 10 games I think there’s only two guys who can use that conversation who and it’s Tyreek uhuh and don’t say CD he’s he’s the only one like he’s the like I don’t like he can’t to me to me no he’s not north of 35 but you can use that as a barometer like you can fit cidi between AJ Brown and Justin Jefferson yeah and I think that’s where I think that’s where Brandon auk’s gonna land really yeah but yeah I do between Justin Jefferson and AJ Brown yeah north of 30 wait hang on I was looking at the wrong thing okay um that seems really high to me no so I was I was I had I had it sorted by the wrong by the wrong thing here I have AJ Brown at 32 million a year annually 51 guaranteed and the guarantee is what I’m interested to to look at because Calvin Ridley with the Titans got 469 AJ Brown got 51 Tyreek Hill got 525 and then Justin Jefferson got 88.7 million guaranteed m so what that Justin Jefferson contract did for to to me is it set that new bar of like hey wide receivers get this much guaranteed money when they’re really really good and that’s where I think if you’re Brandon auk you’re starting at that contract now and working down instead of starting at Calvin Ridley is and working up from there and I think he’s gonna get something like Tyreek Hills at 525 I think he’s probably see Brandon auk in the 5455 guaranteed range okay for for four years so that probably so that probably puts him in the 25 per year the 20 that’ll probably put him at an annual they could actually up the annual and make it fake like they did tyreeks yeah I think the other the other the other super fake one was alond RA St Brown Alan Ross St Brown is making average average annual value they a on that contract it’s $30 million north of just just a tick north of 30 million and he’s got 34.6 gu as four years $120 million but 34.6 is guaranteed and my guess is there’s a bunch of that that’s guaranteed like first day of the league year or something like that where but that’s also probably two years that are completely out the door right right so that’s the the annual value stuff like you said you can crank that up really as high as high as you want um but I I think he probably lands in the if they if they did a four-year h100 million of 55 guaranteed that wouldn’t that wouldn’t shock me at all so that and and that’ll put him in the top five of top two in total guarantees uh he’d be a commencer with Devonte Smith and just behind Cooper Cup in aav annual value yeah yeah so how many players will the San Francisco 49ers have when all is said and done that are like top five four three two and one won in terms of like their contracts because Nick bosa’s Nick Bosa just got eclipsed by the highest paid non-quarterback by Justin Jefferson yes but prior to yesterday that that was that was Nick B’s honor he is at like 34 and a half yes and George KD like even you know George KD’s still top five Fred Warner is the second highest paid linebacker George KD is the fourth highest paid this is just by average annual value fourth highest paid tight end trun Williams is the third highest paid left tackle Christian mcaffry highest paid running back Kyle use cheek highest paid fullback if Brandon auk gets that kind of deal he will be a top five uh what what wait what did I say for auk 25 yeah a year yeah he would be not in the top five just outside of it right yeah yeah there’s is juice gone is juice did they resign KY he back he took a p okay yeah um and then I think J J oh never mind Javon hard Grave’s way down there never mind uh yeah they’re uh that’s fascinating they have a very very loaded expensive roster so Super Bowl huh Super Bowl’s to show for it unbelievable that’s brutal and I saw I no I didn’t see I heard it was you thanks you’re welcome insiders 10 to 12 uh ESPN’s football something something index football power index yeah FBI the 49ers were number one again yes I guess they don’t take into account the mental toll the psychological Factor yeah because not to brag but we talked to Fred Warner on Candlestick Chronicles and we asked him like like is the Super Bowl hangover real he’s like yeah like it’s hard but then he said like we’ve gone through it we know what we need to do there’s a bunch of guys here who have gone through it so that’s like dude that’s terrible that’s the killer well we got we’ve gone through it already we’ve been here yo you’re gonna do not new to this hey and salute like they did it yeah he said he said one of the things that that I don’t want to say draw inspiration from but that the the way he looks at it is it’s harder to do what the Chiefs did it is so much harder to win the thing and then amp yourself back up to go out there next year and repeat and he’s like if they can do that then we know like that fire is there we want to try and go get it we know what we got to do etc etc but winning the Super Bowl’s hard bro very very hard put it on a shirt yeah that’s that that is interesting more difficult going back to the Super Bowl after winning or after losing that’s fascinating because I feel like you could make strong Arguments for either one yeah yeah I’ll Trust the guy who’s done it rather than trying to make my own but I I think I think it’s it’s different on a I think it’s on a little bit of a case-by casee basis though if you’re the New York Giants and you went from the wild card and you went a bunch of road games and then you went to the Super Bowl and you beat Tom Brady is probably not in the cards next year to be like yeah we’re going to get amped up sure but if you’ve got if you have Tom Brady or you have Patrick Mahomes like you’re just gonna be there yeah I don’t think there’s this like emotional toll or this emotional like yeah we got this fight like no you just got Patrick Mahomes dog you’re gonna win a lot you’re just gonna you’re gonna be a threat no matter what with zero wide receivers like it just that’s that’s what it’s going to be so uh the 49ers have Patrick Mahomes so I think the climb is going to be really steep yeah but they have Brock py boy do they they’re going to announce a half billion dollar for Brock py that’s gonna be amazing and then L him every year when he restructures it yeah every single year Patrick Mahomes has done it again wow what a what a team player what a team just making sure he gets his guaranteed money later Patrick Mahomes signed the most team-friendly contract I think in NFL history and that’s why he got covered the way he did it’s insane it’s like okay yeah he’s gonna make in like I think it I think it was like 26 or 27 the contract called for like $68 million guaranteed and it’s like get out of here yeah please stop treating us like we’re stupid this is not real bro hey hang on Patrick Mahomes uh let’s see where is it his guaranteed salary runs out after 2025 at least right now they’ll restructure that again and guarantee more in the future uh 2032 and 2033 are void years he has no signing bonus in 2930 or 31 and no guaranteed salary after 2025 okay all right Kyle Matson uh Niners wire uh and more importantly the Insiders uh here 10 to 12 Monday through Friday uh thanks for carving out a few minutes to come in and break down this uh uh Christian mcaffrey deal I’m sure we will rehash it all in full if Kenny decides to join us on Friday uh Kyle Matson we’ll come back uh we’ll dive into Sacramento Kings whene return here on Sacramento sports leader ESPN 1320 thanks man yeah no problem I’m G to go eat my food now there you go soup you said what soup no chicken and rice that’s a shame no that’s good too that’s a winner wait really someone says the first time they see me in a backwards hat all right are you the Jordan Meeks I went to high school with hm that’d be wild anyways goodbye everybody okay there oh man thank you thank you enjoy your chicken and rice I cannot wait I’ve been looking forward to poor porzingis miss last 10 games and porzingis is 10 he got to be ready to play Man kristos porzingis missed last 10 games Celtics nine and one in those games it’ll be a real issue though man goodness gracious yeah Aldren that Dom and live Morgan storyline is fun I like the uh the pick that Liv posted on uh oh I think it was Twitter where she’s kissing the truck with dom on it like that’s pretty funny they’re doing a great job with that storyline this Kyrie story is Awesome with his dad yeah yeah that’s cool that is an awesome story I’ll say that for the air if you guys haven’t seen them the uh the the replies are kind of funny but still T I think it’s Celtics and five h thanks again to Kyle Matson for being with us should mention uh trist cek will be with us right around the top of the 2:00 hour in our man Jason Jones will be with us uh coming up about 320 or so Jason Jones at the athletic will be with us I absolutely love uh this Kyrie Irving story that sham shirani had just broke not that long ago while we were talking to Kyle says Kyrie Irving is signing the first signature athlete for his Sho line and it’s his father Shams goes out to lay out uh his father’s accomplishments in the world of basketball and so on and so forth but I absolutely I just love this story tremendous Shams tweets about his how his dad played at Boston University and he played in Australia and that Kyrie signed him to an endorsement deal and he’s gonna have his own signature shoe that hits Foot Locker uh in September now some of the replies are funny I’m not gonna lie some of the replies are kind of funny but shout out to Kyrie Kyrie’s he’s certainly a unique personality uh um he’s always going to be someone who has something else attached to him but I love Kyrie’s game and I’ve really enjoyed uh watching Kyrie Irving over the last few weeks watching him it man this this is probably a giant overstatement on my part but forgive me it feels like he fell back in love with basketball it feels like like there was a while where he didn’t love basketball anymore and I don’t know why that was or maybe it wasn’t he didn’t love basketball maybe he just didn’t love the situations he was in he he obviously you know the you know whatever caused him to want to be out of Cleveland and I’ve never really held that against him because if I was Kyrie Irving and I saw the direction that franchise was going and I saw LeBron James uh who said on his podcast with JJ reick that he misses you know playing with Kyrie Irving he went on to talk about how proud he is of him but he absolutely misses playing with him and and and and and I can’t fault Kyrie for seeing the writing on the wall and going yeah man I’m out of here I’m not waiting I’m not waiting for LeBron James to leave I’m getting out of here first and then going to Boston and of course you have that storyline as a part of this upcoming NBA final Series where Kyrie Irving is going back to to to to Boston uh for game one as we know Boston fans are just terrific I’m sure they’re going to welcome welcome him uh with open arms but that was a weird relationship that Kyrie was asked about yesterday that he spoke openly and I feel honestly about it was the relationship that Jason Tatum uh was asked about that I feel like he spoke openly and honestly about and Kyrie was willing to put a lot of the blame on him while Jason Tatum was willing to put the blame on virtually everybody saying this isn’t a Kyrie problem this is something that we just weren’t able to do and we weren’t able to get right and you saw this this thing happening in Boston where it’s like all right it became pretty clear at the end of his tenure there he wasn’t going to be back he winds up in Brooklyn you feel like the situation with Brooklyn could have the potential to be magical you’ve got Kevin Durant coming in of course he’s coming off the Achilles stair that’s always you know had people a little freaked out what that’s going to wind up looking like I feel they had a really really good young team they had the building blocks to be something special and then Shawn Marx got greedy and said I’m gonna go get James Harden and you know what James Harden is to a locker room James Harden in reality is to a locker room what everyone thinks that Kyrie Irving is to a locker room Jason Tatum nor nor like would he in this setting but you get Jason Tatum in other settings where he’s not talking about playing a particular player heading into the NBA Finals where he’s just sitting and talking basketball he’s talking past relationships and the same is true with Jaylen Brown and a number of other individuals in the Boston Celtics they don’t have a bad word to say about Kyrie Irving now will some of the front office sure maybe some of the former coaching staff sure do the players no I don’t know that the players in Brooklyn had anything bad to say about Kyrie Irving because he wasn’t the one who destroyed that locker room he wasn’t the and I don’t know that anybody destroyed the locker room let me walk that back a minute he was the one who destroyed that he wasn’t the one who destroyed that team that was James Harden check that I’ll take that all back it was Shawn marks that destroyed the team by the acquisition of James Harden because you had something that would have worked you had a lot of young Talent there you had a lot of pieces in place that would have worked got greedy and you tried to make that acquisition for James Harden you thought that was going to put you over the top now there are people to this day who’d argue your Kevin Durant shoe size away from going to the NBA finals potentially winning some whatever could very well be true but it didn’t feel like he loved basketball and of course you had that situation you know with the tweet that I my my opinion on that will never change because I don’t think that Kyrie would ever openly talk about what led to that I don’t think he knew what he was tweeting I think someone referenced something to him he agreed with it and then tweeted about it I don’t think he knew the full context of what he was tweeting I really really don’t but here in Dallas man when you’re wondering what is this what is this pairing of him and Luca donic going to look like I don’t think anyone thought it was going to succeed I really don’t because it like it was on paper it like looked incredible but we all know the way that Luca plays like how is this going to work we even wondered at the end end of last year like this y’all going to run this back y’all going to try this again and to their credit they did and it didn’t work and they realized yo we’ve gotta we’ve got to find the right guys to to to to to to surround these two with and that’s where Nico Harrison who just got a contract extension today from the Dallas Mavericks deserves a lot of credit because this pairing has worked out because of everything else that Nico Harrison and the Dallas Mavericks have have done and now when Kyrie does these interviews you see him smiling you see him talking more introspectively everything that Kyrie is doing right now comes across 100% genuine you know win or lose his tone hasn’t changed his demeanor hasn’t changed and the the the genuiness in which he speaks has not changed and I love that for him because he is almost inarguably certainly one of the most talented players in the league like he is bordering on a one-of a kind shot Creator and that’s one of the great things about the Dallas Mavericks that I think poses the question about the Sacramento Kings when you look at pears when you look at Duos when you look at you know teammates across the NBA and you look at the ones who are who are the most effective and the one thing that really stands out about Luca and Kyrie is that you have and we’ve seen this a ton throughout this series or excuse me throughout these playoffs you have two guys who can create you have two guys who can create shots for themselves and you have two guys who can create shots for others and that’s one of the boldest distinctions between the pairing in Dallas and the pairing in Sacramento Damon sabonis is a phenomenal playmaker for others but he’s very very rarely if ever a playmaker for himself and that’s probably that’s not his that’s not his specialty like when you talk about like superpowers he’s far far more versed to create plays for others and he’s phenomenal at it it’s why you know he he led the league in triple doubles this year it’s why he finished you know upwards I think of like seven or eight assists that’s why dearon a playmaker man dear can do it all it’s why Malik signing is so important we talk about Malik we love to talk about Vibes here in Sacramento we love to talk about Malik and The Vibes and hey that’s a shoot I’m with it but in terms of winning and losing while those vibes are very important man his playmaking ability the fact that it feels like you were able to survive the loss of Kevin herder at that position because Kevin hder had a specific skill set that is more easily matchable not to not to take away from the fact Kevin herder can be at times a great great shooter but speaking more of like if you could get someone cooking like you can you can feel the role of a great shooter hell you had nights where Keon like you know was shooting 50 60% from three yeah you take that that’s a little more easily replaceable when you lost Malik you lost a Creator not just a creator for other people which is something that was absolutely focused on but you lost a creator for others and for himself and there are times when certain guys have the ball you know they’re not they’re ultimately in the end no matter what they do with the ball right now ultimately they’re going to look to pass they’re not going to look to do something else with Malik you had to be on your toes for everything cuz Malik will throw a a little baby left-handed you know hook he’ll throw a a you know scoop up under the arm type finger roll from from you know waist down flick the ball up like he’ll do that and hit it at a decent percentage but you lost that and it’s why dear and Malik were so Dynamic when they were on the floor together two shot creators it’s why Luca and Kyrie are so spectacular when they’re on the floor together because you have two shot creators and there’s so much that you have to guard against when you have multiple guys who can create create for themselves and create for others it’s why PJ Washington is so important to that team because PJ you could create for outside Daniel Gafford Derek Lively all of these different individuals that you have you know seen kind of come up in these playoffs the guys you could create for on the inside Kyrie creates a little bit of space finds room at the basket what’s he do just floats the ball in the air lets Gafford go get it let Derek Lively go get it let someone else just get up at the rim and go get it how many times do we see that Luca how many times did we see that with uh Malik and javel and the Killer is Luca can do the same thing multiple shot creators creates a scarier offense Kyle matson’s been talking all off season when we talking like King’s needs about like a shot Creator like you you you you need someone who can create whether Malik is here or not you need another player who can create because you need another person who can create for themselves in addition to for others you’re a significantly more Dynamic threat when you could do both but I think that’s one of the Hang-Ups on the damont sabonis detractors is they know he’s probably not going to create for himself and in the league where creating shots for yourselves is kind of first and foremost creating shots for yourselves is generally what hits House of highlights in sports center top 10 in NBA today in all of the uh the the social media algorithms domas don’t do that like domas doesn’t own the Highlight Reel this is not how he plays like Malik owns it more than he does certainly dearon does but that’s not Dom’s game and that that doesn’t mean that this pairing with domas and dear doesn’t work it means you need one other piece you need one more player who’s a threat on both now you don’t have to be the threat on the offensive end you don’t have to be the the the the threat the scoring threat in the same way that Dar fight is but when you get the ball in your hands you need to create doubt in the defender’s mind as to what you’re going to do it’s why what Keegan was doing rewind yourself 11 months where Keegan played at the California classic and it was clear Keegan was there for one reason and one reason only get out there and run against opposing uh defenses and create for yourself basically go out there with this California classic summer league team and be the guy be the one be the one on this team and Keegan went out there and did it and we would see at different times hell the second to last game of the year we saw it against the Golden State Warriors it’s essentially what people were begging for when Malik went out is well Keegan’s going to have to be the Creator and Keegan has shown he’s going to have to be the other Creator and Keegan has shown glimpses of being able to be that guy and when we talk about steps or leaps or whatever terminology you want to use to describe a player’s growth that was the number one thing where we were looking for can Keegan create his own shot the same way he can create for others and I don’t know what’s more maddening for Kings fans not knowing if a player can do it like genuinely genuinely wondering headed into next season man Keegan can Keegan do this can Keegan do what we’re asking him to do can Kegan do what we think the Sacramento Kings need him to do or is it more maddening to know yeah Keegan can do it like we know he can do it we’ve seen him do it we just saw him do it in the postseason the question is because this is the one that hasn’t been answered the can he or can’t he has been answered the question that hasn’t is can he do it on a regular basis can he do it for the better part of 82 games you think it’s just a matter of him just getting more shots up and the production will come like why do you think he hasn’t been able to more shots up in the flow of the game yeah taking 13 12 shots a game you’re taking 16 17 18 or something like that I don’t know like I I don’t know what for a player of his caliber on a team that he’s so important to right like it’s not like he’s a player who kind of came out of nowhere it’s not like he’s a player who’s still trying to find his footing in the league like he was the fourth pick in the draft he had super high expectations the second he stepped on the floor he had a phenomenal rookie season where he had the green light to shoot that three set the record for most made threes by a rookie I don’t know what allows him to I don’t know if it’s simply a feel of the game or a feel of the moment I don’t know what it is that allows him to do what he did against the Golden State Warriors in the first playing game and then you know take 10 shots the next game or in any other game because we saw him at various times s be really really aggressive we saw him be and that’s the you know that’s the thing where I really fight you and KC a little bit is we saw growth in his game we saw changes in his game we saw a far more aggressive version of Keegan Murray this year than we did the year prior but I’m comparing Keegan to Keegan I’m comparing Keegan year 2 to Keegan year one and that version was aggressive more aggressive than he was the year prior I can’t compare Keegan to what I think he should be in my head I can’t compare Keegan to what I want him to be in my Utopia version of the Sacramento Kings but I can compare him year over-year and he was more aggressive he got more shots up and I think that if to answer your question if if it if it just boils down to does he just need to take more shots I don’t know what gets him to do that because we see that with dear sometimes we see dearen there are times where dear is really really passive in the first quarter sometimes in the first half but you you’ll see times in the first quarter where dearn is really really passive and you know we’ll we’ll use the line he’s kind of letting the game come to him and he’s he’s he’s feeling this out and they be times where that’s what he’s doing but it’s not what anyone wants him to do it’s like hey man go out and do that you’re dearon Fox top tier scorer in the league by every metric when you look at the top tier scorers in the League last year dearon Fox was right there go do that go be aggressive go be a top tier scorer in the league and I don’t know if it’s just something that runs around the Kings Locker room because dearen does it that’s how domas is and Keegan does it the only one who doesn’t which again it’s virtually and I and and I realize this it is essentially impossible to have a conversation about the Sacramento Kings off season and what their uh what they need to be in the best position next year without talking about Malik there there’s no you you basically have to preface every single conversation you’re having with if Malik is back or if Malik isn’t back because he’s so important to everything that the Sacramento Kings do because if Malik monk isn’t here not only do you desperately need another playmaker you you need one now like if if Malik is back you need another playmaker if Malik monk isn’t back you desperately need another playmaker and you probably need another one after that but now you’re now you’re measuring at levels well how close can we how close can we get to finding a guy to replace what Malik Monk Is is going to do or or or would have done for us and how do we get that third playmaker on our roster and maybe more importantly for a lot of Kings fans two of them in this building how do you get Keegan to take the role of being that aggressive playmaker that’s question I don’t have the answer to well I feel like if if if Malik were to leave like go to Orlando whatever it is like Keegan almost has no choice kind of like when M got hurt at the end of last season and Keegan he’s um he’s he got way more aggressive like Keegan almost just has to be that guy no matter what no you’re 100 yeah that’s that’s that’s a great Point yeah you’re 100% right um because expecting to be able to find somebody on the market be it the free agent Market or the trade market to replace Malik Monk Is is probably a bit foolish your best bet at least in terms of playmaking and scoring is for it to potentially be Keegan Murray but it still means you’ve got to go find the other guy so if Keegan is taking the place of Malik you need somebody to take the place of what you want Keegan to be because you need another playmaker and I don’t think domas is his game two all NB in a row multiple All-Star appearances however many years what seven eight years in the league whatever it’s been at this point I I don’t expect it to like his game isn’t going to change this is who domas is and he’s very very good feel like that’s where the Zack lvan comes in I think I mentioned it yesterday if Zack LaVine is here I feel like everything kind of went wrong I think it’s kind of like this scenario if Malik is gone you can’t really you don’t really have any other options because M’s like their assets not deep or anything like that so you do have things to work with but I mean so do other teams I think I think that’s where like a Zack LaVine kind of comes in so the way you phrase that is funny to me so if Zack LaVine is here like everything went bad for the Kings well it’s just like Malik’s not here like we couldn’t get Brandon Ingram or whatever kma didn’t work out it’s just there’s options and stuff and it’s just like like Zack LaVine he’s he’s the one with the most warts too talking about the guys with warts I think Zack LaVine has the most warts he’s making 50 mil per year and all that it’s kind of like you yeah you fit you fit what we need and all that but it’s like you weren’t our first choice I think I have an opinion on the Ingram thing too like a like a definitive opinion what’s that he’s not they’re not trading for him the Kings no like there’s no like I I I don’t we can and like I’m at the point with I’m like thinking about this last night I’m at the point with Ingram where and it and it’s not uh it’s not a situation of wanting it’s a situation of being realistic to what we’re looking at and I feel like we’re looking at the seum situation all over again and I don’t know why SE I don’t whatever conversations the kings were having with Toronto I don’t know why they seem to have ended so abruptly but I feel like that’s the exact situation you’re facing with Brandon Ingram and I can’t Envision a scenario where a deal is realistically reached with the New Orleans Pelicans to acquire Brandon Ingram yeah I think I agree with you to because I don’t think the Kings have what the Pelicans are going to be looking for unless you get a third team in and they’re sending something good to the Pelicans because the Pelicans are going to be trying to win still I think and that yeah right and that’s what are the Pelicans looking for like what what what are you going to get if you’re the New Orleans Pelicans what are you g to get that’s going to make you better than what you were last year because you traded Brandon Ingram like I I I don’t know what that like what we talked about Dallas and I’m not going to criticize David Griffin for trying to like go out there and make a change I’m not going to criticize him for that but Dallas knew that they had to surround Luca and Kyrie with a stronger Supporting Cast okay so you’re looking to surround Zion do you look at maybe Deontay Murray type or I’m just throwing names out there right now maybe does jonay Murray from Atlanta yeah yeah maybe you need a point guard Deontay Murray is a good player and all that stuff maybe you go that route rather than having a solid guy who plays the four right next to Zion because at this point you’re probably looking for fit rather than like guys who fit the roles rather than like another star because like that’s a that’s a scenario that might work for New Orleans because regardless of what winds up happening with bi and Atlanta they probably don’t care because they want to move on from deante anyways yeah and if you’re Atlanta it’s like all right we Max you out whatever just leave sping deal or whatever they want to do I’m not sure what their plans are Atlanta’s a weird team the way they run Ingram and Trey real chill on the um chat throws in Darius Garland I think that’s another solid name or whatever he’s a guy who could probably be on his way out if Donan yeah for New Orleans makes sense for to to me in New Orleans that makes sense so we’re leaning towards a point guard I think so you’re going to look for someone who you’re not going to lose out on wins but so what’s interesting though is you those two examples those those were great examples by you and real chill so you mentioned uh you real chill by the way in the um uh chatty house brought to you by Matthews mattress those are two interesting examples because of the status of the two players that you referenced with their current teams meaning Atlanta by by all appearances is willing to move on from Deonte Murray so if Brandon Ingram comes and goes all right we tried by all appearances either the Cavs are willing to move on from Darius Garland or Darius garland would like to move on from the Cleveland Cavaliers either way you’re off of that we tried with Brandon Ingram it didn’t work oh well all right you keep it moving in the end it’s a net of zero like you lost nothing you gained nothing and you’re probably just willing to move on because the market for the two other players the dejonte Murray and Darius Garland probably isn’t particularly High yeah you like like kind it back to the Kings like if we can get Ingram to the Kings is maybe Deontay goes to um New Orleans engam comes here and then Atlanta gets whatever pick New Orleans has in the 14 and stuff like that that the Kings have we’ll come back uh we’ll talk more Kings basketball you can get in on these phone lines we’d love to hear from you as well 91690 91320 Trista cric’s going to join us at the top of the 2:00 hour uh I guess Kenny you know coming in with the hot tag at the top of the two o’clock hour as well or somewhere in the two o’clock hour uh he’ll be with us um so that’s all ahead it’s Ste Casey brought to you by Sky River Cino here on Sacramento sports the feater ESPN 1320 sain Garland was about the Pelicans not the Kings you should be able to just log in but who knows I don’t know you send him the link just in case oh come on when trist is on bro it would have been even better if it was Wednesday y’all come on when James jumps on right oh man Tony Harvey tapping in for TK love that love that oh yeah RP loves him some Zack LaVine that’s all right I think Casey does too I don’t but Zack I could learn to love him I think Zach would have to prove or be something that he hasn’t been yet in his career well let me see what the deal is too like yeah let me see what the deal is if it’s not an outrageous deal I don’t cool like I don’t I don’t care because if the deal works and it doesn’t work out okay fine but if it’s like a multiple D if if the deal gets a little wonky that’s where it’s like all right man well I don’t think it’ll cost much either I don’t think so Zack line I think I think if Zack LaVine comes to Sacramento it’s like oh well like yeah his contract’s not great but we give up much at least L I love the Celtics but if the Dolphins ever win it like I don’t even know how I would react I don’t even have an exclanation for that like that’s the one I’d pick really how is it how come probably because like that that’s the first team I started watching and stuff like that CU like my ear memories like around 2002 like I was watching the Celtics around then too but like me and my dad would go watch the Dolphins and stuff at restaurants and stuff like that they’ve been watching it since watching with my family members and stuff too I got you there’s a lot of logos on this screen I need to drop the ksfm logo that’s probably what I should do I thought having the chatty House logo in there would be fun that’s a lot of logos though need someone to buy that space between Sky River and the 1025 I guess so I guess so I asked for the West Coast audio uh uh logo but they didn’t couldn’t get rich to send it to me so I’m and C cash you’re you’re 100% right I’m 100% sure that’s what he’s doing this is the thing and I’m I I hope he’s watching so he hears this that pisses me off when he does this we did 45 minutes on this yesterday and there’s no way I can recreate like anything I said oh it was good stuff too I think you said what had to be said and you know what the best part about it is to at least to me did you see Angel yesterday her comments about like she wants them to remember like it was her yeah yeah that’s exactly what we said yesterday like bar for bar what we said but I’ll I’ll let him get his [ __ ] he’s probably bored I Mr Ranch I’m from Modesto but I got different reasons I guess for why I like my teams he’s from all of I95 Boston Miami I don’t know if Miami is off 95 let me think about it Florida Miami South yeah it should be right I don’t know Ramsey would know I’m sure you ever been to Miami yeah fun place once yeah I’ve been there once too once very expensive very very expens I was there it was it was one of the most bizarre it was bizarre I think for a variety of reasons I was there right after our way back well I got to get my stuff off man because we’re talking about it we were talking during the chat Jesse obviously a do dolphins fan we’re talking about if Jesse would be more excited if the Dolphins won or if the Celtics win and then the conversation shifts to Miami I was in Miami once but the circumstances were really unique I went there I was traveling to Miami as Hurricane Katrina was passing through the east coast and headed towards the Gulf so my original flight to Miami that day was cancelled and we had to work really really hard it was for the MTV Video Music Awards and we had to work really really hard just to get to Miami so we wound up adjusting our entire flight in itinerary and I remember getting on the plane and my co-host tro at ksfm was with me and and I remember getting on the plane and we’re we we sat down and we both had like I seats but we’re not next to each other and I remember asking him I was like hey where are we going like I had no clue where we were flying to absolutely no clue and I just knew the end destination was going to get us I think to like Fort Lauderdale or something so we we get on the plane find out we’re headed to Atlanta all right we’re headed to Atlanta well able to get from Atlanta I think it was to Fort Lauderdale and then we found the one crazy ass cab driver that would get us from I think it was Fort Lauderdale to Miami and the hurricane had passed but the the um streets were a mess this guy was older we were driving through the Everglades I was confident I was going to die and be eaten by an alligator everad I took a bot to um in the Everglades when we were there yeah we saw the alligators of crocodiles I ate some fried alligator it it it’s pretty crazy my man didn’t see the trees in the road until like the last second and we finally get to I think it was The Standard Hotel on South Beach and you know it’s it’s a you know the this it’s a mess like the hurricane is literally just passed through it was a me we didn’t have no luggage we had to go back to the airport uh the Miami Airport the next day to get our luggage because it was on our original flight and the next day it’s like scorching hot it is like crazy hot I remember going into the Atlantic Ocean for the first time and it’s just bathwater warm like it’s incredible standing out there for five minutes a massive downpour hits and I mean the Skies open up and it it feels like you’re standing in the middle of a shower we go running back to the hotel and Shout out and it was like me and like a crew from Portland and some other people shout out to the to the to the kitchen staff that saw us and let us in through the kitchen so we didn’t have to run all the way around the beach back into the front of the hotel still completely soaked an absolute mess and again the next day sun out scorching hot just humid and nasty Casey would have loved it it’s the one thing I’ll never be able to live in places like that just because of the like the humidity and the Heat and because the and and and I I don’t know if it was because the MTV Awards were there or if it was just because this is Miami it was so expensive like everything was insanely expensive Miami is still expensive never went back not not because like I avoid I just don’t have a desire to go back it was beautiful but again that weather was vicious this was my one trip to Miami um we were talking before the break about the different needs of the Sacramento Kings and and you know ultimately it ends um back up on shot creation trade proposals Zack LaVine Brandon Ingram and I’m completely out on the idea of Brandon Ingram not because I don’t like the idea of Brandon Ingram I just don’t think a trade is realistic for a player going into the last year of their contract like if if it didn’t work with Pascal SE yakum why was it going to work for Brandon why would it work for Brandon Ingram because the circumstance essentially are exactly the same you can sit down with the New Orleans Pelicans and Brandon Ingram’s representation and you can ultimately wind up in the same exact scenario are you and and I don’t know that this is what happened with Sacramento but I’m I I feel like I can put you know pieces of the puzzle together um if Brandon Ingram stays here this is the dollar figure he wants and the dollar figure is very easy he wants a Max contract which I believe is exact actly what seaks people said I don’t know if the kings were willing to offer that or even able to offer it at the time but it could have just been uh look you guys can make this trade if you want to but siakam’s going to make his decision this offseason in the likelihood especially because there’s no cameras or reporters around the likelihood of resigning here are next to N I just don’t feel like the situation would be any different with Brandon Ingram and if it is any different I don’t feel like it would be very different with in Ingram and what would the Kings even be capable of offering would they be able to offer him the contracts that he looking for because I’m certain that he’s going to be looking for a max deal hell I think we already saw that coming out of New Orleans that New Orleans didn’t want to offer him a max deal I’m sure they didn’t just volunteer that information that’s what Brandon Ingram’s people are asking for and so you know when these trade discussions fall apart like I feel like that’s the conversation that you have to start with or at least that’s the question that you have to ask first to start the conversation we can use seak as the example because we lived it if the idea was if he were to stay here in Sacramento long term that the Kings would have to sign him to a long-term contract extension a Max contract extension would it be worth it for you to sign Pascal SE yakum to a Max contract extension because the definitive answer in New Orleans was yes in in a matter of time it will be announced that Pascal cakam is signing a Max contract with the Indiana Pacers everybody knew that then everybody knows that now will that pay off for the Indiana Pacers I’m of the belief it will next year the question is will it the year after that and the year after that and the year after that and to what degree will it pay off for the Indiana Pacers I think they’re going to be I think they’re going to be significantly better next year I’ve already told you I think they could be a two seed next year what I don’t think is I don’t think they’re going to be better than Boston what I don’t think is that they’re going to be a championship team so now you have this player who could potentially decline for you in maybe not year two but year three or four or maybe in year two three and four then you have to ask yourself is it worth it it’s worth it if they’re even better than I think and it Nets them a title then it’s worth it because you deal with the three years of a declining player because you already got ultimately what you wanted at him you don’t sign a player for four years at a Max contract thinking you’re going to win four NBA championships if we’re all being completely honest with yourself ourselves you’re doing it in the hopes of you get one the goal is to win a championship if you can win another one well that’s spectacular if you can win a series of them well that’s just you’re you’re entering a different tier of teams but in the end you make all of these moves you line all of these things up you do all of these different things you want to do and it’s to win a championship a singular Championship so if everything goes Max with that if everything goes south with that Max contract after the Championship all right man whatever don’t care doesn’t matter because you got what you came for you came you got you got that title well y’all think somebody is going to pay Brandon Ingram what is it four years20 something million doll somebody going to pay him that y’all want it to be the Kings or you want it to be someone else does Brandon Ingram is Brandon Ingram the difference between the Sacramento Kings winning a title or not is Brandon Ingram or a pascal cakam the type of player that the Sacramento Kings need do they need that level two star there with de or to go back to where this entire conversation originated from do they need the PJ Washington type do they need the Daniel gaffer type both players by the way that many in the Kings Universe were clamoring for last trade deadline looking at the 13th pick referenc this with the Insiders earlier can you get a player like Derek Lively at the 13 spot in this draft I know we talk about trading the pick and all of these different things the fact is right now the Kings have the 13th pick Kings have the 13th pick until they don’t and so can they find that player like drick Lively who makes the difference Dereck Lively is not Brandon Ingram he’s not Pascal cakam but he’s a player who you he’s a player who when you watch the Dallas Mavericks you see him and I think that’s an important that’s a that’s a a a component to like a successful Rookie of course you could see them in a bad way but you look at him and you realize yo this dude’s got positive contributions to this team you don’t want a player who’s just like living on the bench and got the old clipboard in the iPad and he’s learning and all these different things no you want a player who can contribute you want a player who can help and help immediately that doesn’t mean replace Malik monk if he’s not here that doesn’t mean take the leak that Keegan Murray hasn’t taken that’s not what any of that means it means when you’re out there can you play the defense uh the way that Mike Brown wants it to be played can you run the offense the way that the Sacramento Kings run the offense can you keep up with the pace can you get rebounds can you score when you have the opportunity you can make an impact on the team that way and finding a player at 13 who can make an impact on the team that way could go a long way for this Sacramento Kings coming up this year I feel like Kyle kosma is closer to figure out how to phrase this I think Kyle koosman’s closer to a PJ was Washington impact type player than a pascal cakam type impact player does that make sense like I don’t like like cakam is Tyrese’s running mate like it’s it’s those two and that’s who you’re building around you’re building around the the pairing of Tyrese halberton and Pascal seak it’s just like you’re building around the pairing of dearen fox and Damonte sabonis Kyle kosma to me is the PJ Washington Edition like he’s that player you don’t in my estimation you don’t need the Brandon Ingram type Brandon Ingram you probably want with the right one as the running mate you you want him there as the pairing you want Brandon Ingram and maybe it’s Brandon Ingram and Donovan Mitchell okay I can I can get behind that I I I can see why you know Kobe Alman and that group by the way their interview requests are baffling like I do not we get new names I do well newer names man this it’s not a it’s not a shot it it just David Adelman was added to to to the to the list which David adaman is long thought to be you know he he he should be in the current cycle of of of new Young coaches but it’s just the thing that just didn’t think this was the route that Cleveland was going I’m not sure what they’re doing right now what the hell is taking the Lakers so long JJ’s got to finish out um the finals gotta finish the Pod honestly they’re probably just waiting for him to finish out the finals that’s crazy that’s crazy they’re gonna announce like with the Celtics up 20 in game five or six or whatever you think it’s going five so I’ll play along yeah like oh the Celtics are about to close it out oh JJ you’re going to go coach the Lakers I’m should to burst out tears of joy at that moment do JJ break his own news hey guys it’s been fun just wanted to let you know I’m going to scoop Shams and W here and let you know I’m headed to the Los Angeles Lakers or see they wouldn’t do that they would never allow that to happen so what they would do is they would feed it to wge and with five minutes left in the game WJ would tweet it that way Mike brain and Doris Burke could congratulate him I don’t know who JJ’s representation is I’ll have to look into that but I I like if you think that bi and Donovan is the parent like great it feels like Brandon Ingram is the guy to go with another guy he doesn’t feel like the piece here he doesn’t feel like the piece that you add here to get over the hump it feels like there could be too many like complications with that and obviously the biggest compil uh uh the biggest issue is the contract that’s the biggest complication is what if he’s not here you use the move that you had left to go get a guy who’s ultimately leaving the more and more we talk about this the more and more I think about this the more and more I work through these different ideas different scenarios the more and more I look around the league the more and more I look at the reality or at least what I think the reality is of the Sacramento Kings I keep Landing back on Kyle kosman if we’re talking about a PJ Washington type player that’s Kyle kosma to me that’s not Brandon Ingram that’s not where Brandon Ingram is it sure as hell isn’t what Zack LaVine is now do you feel like you can aim higher oh may maybe you go a level above what PJ Washington is okay how you gonna work that player in with dearen Fox and Damonte sabonis with Keegan Murray and you hope with Malik Monk especially if Malik Monk Is back can you imagine I’m thinking about right now um if you a to bring back monk you trade for kosma let’s say monk is fine coming off the bench or whatever you got him and Harrison coming off the bench like the Kings get a lot better I feel like two in that situation absolutely yeah absolutely Harrison probably not fit to be a starter on the Kings right now but coming off the bench I think he’d be very productive still and then in in this scenario the trade for keev it’s Kevin herder who’s gone yeah Kevin herder’s gone Keon let’s could start the two or Malik that’s or if he wants if he wants yeah that’s the that’s the other thing like I feel like we never talk about Keon and obviously we’re we’re so hung up on Malik which is completely understandable and we talk about Keegan because he’s the former number four overall pick and he’s got some years behind him and we all kind of have this feeling and in in and it’s fair given what he’s he’s done in his time in the league that yeah Keegan’s really good and it’s like what what’s he gonna do next we don’t really talk about Keon and I think it’s it’s got to be tough for Keon because he had a you know a really impactful final stretch of the season and he was kind of the talk of the team for a while he was the talk of the media he was hell he was the talk of his teammates for a while players openly talking about the difference that he makes to what they do defensively and we just don’t really talk about him we just don’t really talk about what his impact on the team can be next year and I think part of that is because we don’t even know what he’s going to be doing next year we’re you know working through we’re fantasy booking all of these trades we’re trying to figure out what’s happening with Malik we’ve we’ve formed the conclusion that if Malik is back he’s probably starting that’s literally based on nothing that’s based on Vibes that’s based on our opinion we know like every player in the league wants to start no matter how well they handle their situation of being a a second team player they want to start and everybody handles those situations differently you couldn’t have asked Malik to handle the situation he was put in put in any better than he did but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to start so now that he’s got all of the control this is the time for that this would be a time where he could say I love it here I want to be here but I really would like to to you know start with dearon and domas and Keegan and if the king KS felt it was really really important he remained in the second unit he could explain they could explain why they feel it’s best he remains with that second unit and continue to be a a near 30 minute per game guy but if push came to shove and it’s like I want to start and if you can’t offer me that I’m gonna go somewhere I can well then the king say hey Welcome to our new St to uh two guard Malik Monk and you hold true to your word and you place him as your starter and then you figure out what it looks like and by the way I got to imagine that Mike Brown and mighty McNair and Wes Wilcox and everybody involved and Doug Christie and that entire coaching staff J Triano Lindsay everybody has thought about what it would look like if Malik monk is the starting to they have formulated a plan to if that’s a part of this contract negotiation here’s what we’ll do with ke Keon here’s how we’ll stagger minutes here’s what our new rotation might look like here is what it will look like when we enter training camp here’s what it’ll look like when we enter our first preseason game and you have that idea and you work from there you have the blueprint of what you want to do if Malik Monk Is your starter and you start tinkering with that in the you know five or whatever it is uh preseason games but it’s the the conversations that we have had here uh on this show the conversations that we have you know when we’re hanging out at Sky River wherever we may be Kings have had those same conversations the Kings aren’t going to get into a conversation with Malik’s representation you know Malik would like to start and be floored by it they’ll have a plan for that the question is what is the plan and how does it benefit everybody how does it benefit dearon Fox Keon Ellis hegan domas and how does it benefit this team winning games because they’ve proved to be successful with Malik coming off the bench but given the way that last year went and they’re being so many issues at the two guard pot with Kevin herder and Chris dorte before finally landing on Keon Ellis it’s perfectly fair for someone to make the argument yeah they could have been two games better if if Malik was starting of course we have nothing to base that off of but it’s a perfectly fair question to ask or a perfectly Fair statement to make and if you want change if you want well there’s change right there Keon’s not the Sixth Man or excuse me Malik’s not the Sixth Man anymore he’s a starter and perhaps in this situation Keon is and then that creates the domino effect of what happens next with Donovan Mitchell and what’s our rotation look like with our guards from there let’s get our man TC in here 91690 91320 TC what’s going on baby what’s up with my brother dowlo man my two brothers KC under the weather man no we good man we good always good to hear from you my man what’s happening no man just tapping in with the homie well the homies Jesse in the back um hey that’ be nasty bro if we was able to pull off that KO like I I mean I truly believe that’s the deal I know we people talking about bi and all that but de I’m with you though like I believe though that’s that’s the move and even if we able to bring Malik back that’s kind of nasty though with Malik Fox CO’s at the three and arus can play the stretch four either one because you can play with Keegan and then you decide who you want at the stretch four and who you want at the three and then domas at the five but even if monk don’t come back Keon can slide into that spot bro and that still would be nice if we pull off the C Smo so I think it’s a win-win for the Kings in this situation I know he want to bring monk back bro but if he leave I’m trying to tell everybody we not g to be in a bad spot y’all appreciate you TC um yeah I mean TC easing the nerves in case Malik monk comes or leaves with every call he is he’s bringing it up wants a wants a call now yeah and I’m all for it but I do I I I get where he’s coming from he’s he’s he what what what TC is saying is you know this whole thing doesn’t fall apart if Malik isn’t here uh obviously we want him here one because he’s very very good at what he does uh also Vibes are Immaculate with with uh with Malik but yeah the ship doesn’t sink without him though if you were going to point to the ultimate downfall of last season you go to the point of Malik getting hurt now there are circumstances there that are really important it’s not just Malik that was hurt it was that Kevin hder was hurt too so the depth of that position was completely eliminated in The span of a couple of days and we can feel however want we want to about the way that Kevin herder played last year but you didn’t even have the bad version of you did you had nothing to fill the void of Malik being being out would things have been different if Kevin herder was there I have no idea but I’d put my money on that scenario versus the scenario of both of them being out so it’s hard to it’s hard to you know take that to you know it’s not off falling apart if man if we’re just not able to keep him if the money is out there and and and Malik Minds up leaving you know it’s it’s not it’s not the end and like yeah you’re right TC it’s not the end goodness it sure felt like the end of the season last year when he got hurt the way that they played in those nine 10 games without him but of course those nine 10 games also include that postseason game against the Golden State Warriors which they won handed we’ll come back we’re talking the Kings getting better are there any teams in the conference that fall off we’ll talk about it plus Trista cek at the top of the hour and I guess KC at some point he’s got some takes he wants to fire off uh so we’ll talk to them when D and Casey return here on Sacramento sports leader ESPN 1320 Auden I don’t really have a choice when that’s uh when that happens um like I said it’s hard to it’s hard to Sidetrack yourself oh we got a run in Brian wior oh man oh yeah we got the Brian Windhurst camp but I think that’s only on the I think that’s only on the the the the small view there he is oh he’s in his oh they made they’re making him stay in his closet Windor why do I hear y’all on the uh why do I hear y on here not in my ears I gotta fix that you probably not connected to your earbuds I am but not on the not on the uh oh there you are yeah yeah not in streamyard there we go there yeah man I’m out here I was GNA go in the back patio but they got this man the water heater hey man it’s crazy out here look I I’ll tell everybody it’s funny I know we’re on commerci well we’re on Commercial right yeah yeah yeah okay it’s funny uh I I got the vid y’all I got the vid um and I was talking to Aaron and and and Kim yesterday and they were doing a thing where they’re like well we can keep it uh confidential and just say somebody got in there and then we got to thinking about it and they’re like there’s only like five of us that are there every day if one of us aren’t there every day and an email goes out that somebody has C and then I got to come back wear a mask but no it’s confidential who has yeah it’s tinny okay so yeah go ahead and put my name out there it’s fine what what’s the thing above the water heater what what is that coming out of the ceiling oh don’t know I don’t know what it is it’s uh hold on I can’t find I don’t know what that is it’s fascinating yeah it helps the house run that’s that’s all I can say it helps the house run that’s all that matters man but yeah hopefully uh hopefully get back uh aiming for tomorrow man aiming for tomorrow stay your ass at home you sound like [ __ ] you think I sound bad no you don’t sound good really I I don’t know like no no like no that’s not true like you don’t you don’t sound bad no no no you don’t sound bad but you I could tell you’re sick I feel I feel I feel better I mean there’s there’s some congestion I guess but I don’t I don’t I haven’t felt bad since Saturday Saturday was Saturday was nasty Saturday I said oh coming to see you Harriet we’re we’re gonna come back here in like 30 seconds but you not to break kayf but uh we only have one show tomorrow because it’s Wednesday I I gotta work to today for that so uh just keep keep keep that in your you know back of your mind um okay okay because I have to do the stuff for complex today b b yeah um yeah you holding down though brother I appreciate you man I’m I’m watching I’m tapped in I’m that’s why I came in a little earlier I was tapped in earlier when y’all was talking crazy I heard it yeah we that’s all we doing is talking uh we’re coming back right here Casey hang on well it’s it’s it’s it’s funny Charlie was asking man like uh you how’s how’s Casey feeling I was like I I don’t know like we don’t talk to each other like that’s a shoot like when we’re when we’re not working together we don’t we don’t talk to each other when he feeling better he’ll be here like yeah like and so like I think he might do some stuff from home but he you know I I think he wants to you know get the system connected to the ethernet cable because we’ve had some Rocky television appearances no he’s in this garage like Casey’s here with us like he’s by the water heater like Jasmine won’t even allow him in the house like he’s at least I think he’s in I don’t know he’s I don’t maybe he’s not in the garage he’s by water I’m in the garage I’m the corner of the garage yeah he’s by Jazz’s motorcycle like that’s that’s a shoot that’s a shoot the motorcycle right there right there so so our our man casy you know he’s he’s he’s he’s under the weather he was telling the chat what’s going on so he’s uh he’s trying to work his way back to full health he’s not allowed in the house he’s not allowed in the studio Michael Scott paper company’s in his corner right now he’s just in his his Corner he’s just in his corner and uh Jasmine and and reys are slipping trays of food through the doggy door so he I got a TV in here though so that’s I’m good that’s all I I mean Kyle brings up a great Point It’s gotta be hot in there right not yet not yet it’s gonna it’s it’s hot as hell outside well I had to go earlier to the to the doctors uh Ryan at a doctor’s appointment this was like 9:30 man and it was it was hot it was hot at 9:30 so yeah I ain’t gonna be in this garage too much longer I know that much well I know you had some you had some takes you wanted to fire off like k i i was convinced Kenny was looking at the wrong rundown when he text me this morning but he was like Hey I want to join when you talk about Caitlyn I was like yesterday I realized I had written some stuff in for Trista because I know Trista has some thoughts we know Jason Jones has some thoughts because he was uh texting us about it over the weekend and and and the chat brought it to my attention that you had been firing off tweets about uh the Caitlyn Angel situation over the weekend or it wasn’t really Angel yeah but um so I I was listening yesterday when when you when you talked about it and of everybody that’s had something to say over the last 72 hours to me you’re one of the guys that are verified and certified you’ve been watching this league for for 10 plus years you know what I mean you you’ve seen how all this stuff goes on so when you speak uh I take heed to that because you’ve seen all the interactions with other rookies in the past and and just the way the way these ladies play in their league like it’s a it’s a it’s a physical brand of basketball um just in general you know what I mean not like targeting anybody it’s a it’s a physical brand of basketball there’s a a buddy of mine who has a daughter who plays basketball and I think she’s like probably a junior or sophomore at this point and when you’re younger the the girls they can play with the guys and stuff like that and he used to always tell me he’s like man I can’t wait till she’s not playing with the guys no more because when she plays with the girls it’s gonna be like real it’s gonna be real physical it’s not like that with the guys because there’s still a sense of the guys take it easy on them they’re not as physical with the girls and stuff like that he said when when she plays with the girls they don’t care about none of that like they getting after it you know what I mean and he he was like I I look forward to that um that type of physicality you know in her growth as a basketball player but for the most part I agree with everything that you had to say yesterday and your understanding and bringing in Skyler and Candice and and their experiences too but I do disagree with the notion that it’s hate out there for Caitlyn and jealousy I I don’t I don’t necessarily agree with that now are there people who are jealous and who have hate sure absolutely but I don’t I don’t number one I don’t think that’s any different than when LeBron James came into the league or when Lonzo ball came into the league or when Victor went like there there’s there’s always gonna be that right I don’t think it’s at an extra level with Caitlyn Clark that’s just that’s just my opinion and also like when people talk about like um maybe I’m I’m too much when they talk about oh yeah man it’s just a bunch of hate and jealousy and that’s why uh you know all this stuff is going on number one that’s almost disrespectful to those to those athletes to think to say that they can’t get over their emotions enough to stay professional with what they do and and try to stay locked in and what they’re trying to do and winning games and and being the best player that they can be no they they can handle their emotions there there could be hate and jealousy there but they can still handle their emotions without going and trying to hurt somebody or deviating from trying to win a basketball game just to uh put a hard foul on Caitlyn Clark I don’t think I don’t think a lot of that is going on at all are they being competitive are they being aggressive and physical with her absolutely absolutely they are and to me that’s no different than any Walk of Life in sports and I I’ll use the example if there’s a a a high Prospect eighth grader that’s supposed to go to the high school and play Varsity what you think he going to happen the first time they he go to varsity practice them Juniors and seniors is about to get after him they about to they about to be physical they gonna test them and see what it is freshman in uh in in college a high-profile High School recruit first time they go to uh practice at their at their new College them Juniors and seniors are going to get after them that’s and rookie uh rookie into a profession league is no different and I I don’t think there’s been any heightened or different um level of competitiveness from with Caitlyn Clark or I shouldn’t say that I don’t think anything’s been out of bounds with Caitlyn Clark since she’s been in here I think they they just trying to get after her and I think that’s no different than anything that goes on in any walk of uh of of professional sports and anything so I I I push back on the whole notion of there’s a bunch of jealousy and hate and she’s getting getting unfairly uh played against or or unnecessary physicality that comes into a game with her I I think all of that is false um okay I I disag obviously uh I disagree with that and it’s not necessarily I think what we’re doing is we’re taking everything that’s happening on the basketball floor and kind of lumping it into one thing which isn’t accurate what the New York Liberty are doing to Caitlyn Clark isn’t hazing it isn’t uh uh hating it isn’t jealousy it is the best defense in the league taking out the lone offensive weapon on a god aul basketball team that’s what the New York Liberty are doing that’s what the Connecticut Sun are doing um picking up Caitlyn 90 feet from the basket like Phoenix did that’s probably a little less about defense and like let’s just see how miserable we can make her tonight it’s still a defensive game plan it’s not hating it’s not jealousy it’s nothing we’re lumping basketball in with the stuff from Kennedy Carter and it and and maybe maybe as we further break this down a little bit more and if we’re willing to not lump all of this stuff together we might recognize that all right New York is this is a championship caliber team they’re not going to risk anything um oh let’s bring in let’s bring in uh cool cool Trista cuz I know she’s gonna want to talk about this oh look at her oh you know it’s warm in DC uh TK with us uh yeah uh KC’s in the garage it’s covid Kenny uh for for for right now he’s he’s in the garage he don’t even know he’s he’s in full James Hand mode right now where his his circle is spinning I don’t know whether he can even hear me or not but where where he’s so he’s at home he’s at home yeah cuse he’s co Kenny he’s covid Kenny yeah so he caught he caught it in 2024 he caught Co he did for the first time oh wow that just tells you that’s scary could catch anyone yeah it’s it’s it’s it’s amazing so we’ll we’ll see if we can get Kenny uh reconnected but he wanted to he wanted to join because there we go there we go we got oh he was allowed inside oh my goodness oh NOK what up what up TK shout out Jasmine she let Kenny back in the house that’s very nice that’s good so TK with us we were uh Casey wasn’t with us yesterday he wanted to talk about the Caitlyn stuff and um I I think we’re lumping everything that’s happening in in into one and what New York is doing what Connecticut is doing there’s a lot of basketball that’s being played where you’re eliminating the best player on a god- awul basketball team and it’s resulting in you winning by 30 that’s happening a lot and I think if we isolate this a little bit further we can realize a lot of what we’re talking about is isolated for some reason to Angel Reese in the Chicago guy I don’t know what Kennedy Carter was attempting to prove yesterday or or over the weekend I should say but when you look at Kennedy Carter’s history that’s Kennedy Carter right there like that’s what she does it’s why she was out of the League last year it’s why she’s squandering so much talent of being an elite scorer the best scorer to ever come out of the Texas A&M program she’s just kind of thrown it away because of stuff like that you talk about the inability to control your emotions like it’s an insult to them Kennedy Carter cannot control her emotions and part of the reason I feel that way one her history but two she goes to the press conference I’m not asking answering any questions about Caitlyn Clark all right man salute then you run to Social Media to talk about Caitlyn Clark and then the next day you got the nerve to say oh now that I’m removed today I I can talk about Caitlyn all right dog like that’s an inability to control your emotions that means you’re feeling some way about this particular player in front of you the play She made was not a basketball play again it’s not indicative to everything that is happening within the league right now some teams are just defending her some teams are defending her really tough some teams are fouling her hard fouling hard is part of basketball but we talked about TK will bring you into this we talked all of Caitlyn’s final year she is going to have a rough rookie season because the women’s B the women’s game the WNBA specifically but the women’s game overall is growing it’s growing with her as a part of it just like I said yesterday that angel Reese said yesterday the game is growing because of a number of individuals but it looks like we’re focusing on one and there are people in the league that resent that I think that’s right and I think though it’s like you have to look at what percentage roles people are playing and like there are there this has been a ground swell for years like I was on Buffalo wgr earlier today and I’ve been talking about the W from like a betting perspective and a Content perspective since 2020 and you could tell then that the um that the interest just there was vitriol from male sports fans like why are you bringing this up I don’t want this in my face like I don’t want you writing about this nobody cares these women stink blah blah blah and I was fighting the good fight saying well why does why does Kobe love this game like why does demard de rosan go to these games like why do NBA players like KD uh invest in this game so I’ve been you know appreciative and aware that there was going to be some growth over time but I I think like in terms of attendance in terms of Rights fees in terms of the revenue like Caitlyn Clark has the Lion Share uh responsibility of that like and a angel Reese as the antagonist to Caitlyn Clark um is her role right like I don’t think Angel Reese is as huge without being the you know Larry Bird to the Michael or to the Magic Johnson so that’s part of it um I think there’s a lot of intersectionality here there’s obviously with the women’s game a sexuality component to it there’s a a racial component there’s a colorism component um there’s like a middle of the country Urban versus Rural and suburbia component it’s extremely nuanced um and I think you’re right there’s a resentment component because these there’s players that are better and more skilled than Caitlyn Clark in the W right now and they deserve to be covered and they deserve to get their flowers and they have for many years I I have been a huge arque fan for until like when she was at Notre Dame and she never gets the type of coverage and shine that she deserves and I know that I was on shockingly outkick today uh doing a hit sorry yeah I did a hit with today about uh basketball just about basketball about betting and I was listening to it earlier than that we’ll talk about that down I do hits with everybody and we keep it we keep it a buck always but he said something so weird uh well before I got on which was like nobody cares that Caitlyn Clark is white nobody cares that caylin Clark is straight nobody cares about this and and to that my my perspective that because I didn’t get asked about it my perspective is if kayln Clark was a darkskinned uh lesbian woman how would we uh America the general pop how would they view her right I wouldn’t view her any different but how would people in Iowa view her and so because white is the default that’s the status quo it’s not about race to them but it is about race because if she was something else and looked a different way how she would be covered might be different and now her skill set and how she plays the game is very unique it’s very Steph Curry esque but let’s not act like you know there’s not other really highly skilled players out as well but then there’s another contingency people who want to downplay how Caitlyn Clark is being treated and they only Gaslight us to say this is completely normal which it is not so Monica mcnut has had a very nuanced take I think she she says both things can be true right resentment can be true and also the the W is very physical on its own and there’s a competitive aspect and that these things can both all exist at once and I feel like each Camp wants to pretend like the other side does not exist at all yeah and so a couple things like with with Kennedy Carter when you when you lay out what she’s gone through and what she’s done her in in career to me that lends more to Kennedy Carter just being who she is as opposed to she hates Caitlyn Clark that’s why she did what she did like I I I believe Kennedy Carter if if Chelsea Gray was talking crazy Kennedy Carter she’s a hotthead a proven hot head no matter who is there she may react the same way she didn’t do that because then here’s the other thing about that too Daman that you talk about I remember when you talk about like what Kyrie when he posted whatever he said he said he read the watch the movie or read the book I don’t think a lot of people were watching that game now it had great ratings I’m not saying that but I think a lot of people don’t don’t they weren’t watching the game they saw the clip and was like oh look what they’re doing to her that was like late in the third quarter like if they if they wanted to like beat up Caitlyn Clark don’t you think it would have happened before then or whatever it was a normal game it was a highly contested game they were going back and forth for whatever the case may be as basketball players and then Caitlyn started talking to uh to to Kennedy and Kennedy responded in a in a wrong way like that’s not how you handle that or whatever the case may be but that’s more so in my opinion how Kenny how do you then where are you at on Angel Reese on the sideline cheering Kennedy Carter for making that dirty play was that about her and Caitlyn oh Angel got Heap for uh Caitlyn yeah angel angel don’t angel I don’t know if she doesn’t like Caitlyn the person I think Angel doesn’t like everything that comes around her and to be honest with you to a certain degree she’s I don’t want to say she’s proven right but this is the example of it like when something happens to Caitlyn the world stops for 72 hours Angel got choke slammed to Hell a week ago and nobody really said anything about that uh og girl from Connecticut was thrown out of the game or whatever the case may be it was handled there but it went no think pieces about you know his Angel being uh rough roughed up in the league and all this other stuff but it happens to Caitlyn and her and at are actually like friends Angel and at and angel came out was like that’s the big homie like I should be treated like this rookie hazing is a part of it which by the way I think is garbage I think rookie hazing in general is like absolutely why are we just saying like this is just a part of it like I don’t I don’t think that being extra physical with rookies to welcome them to the league is particularly healthy Behavior but I’ll leave it there I think it’s the energy around the the physicality that sometimes occurs not Kennedy Carter just doing that and having the hip check it’s the as as someone who was the in in my in League Play at my low ass level that was like one of the few white kids playing there’s a certain like [ __ ] energy that is that you feel and I think Kennedy feels that for Caitlyn that’s that’s just the way that the [ __ ] came off like he she bull rushed her with the [ __ ] and I don’t know that it’s just there was a lot in there you know but and and like I said I’m not gonna act like there isn’t hate or jealousy in there in in the league at all I’m sure absolutely I’m sure there is but I think there was hate and jealousy when LeBron came into the NBA totally for for wmy for all this other stuff and the example I used is I don’t I don’t I don’t have a problem with this analogy but this is how it is on every level of sports I just said if you’re a a high profile eighth grader that’s about to be a freshman playing varsity what you think them seniors going to do the first day of practice they gonna see if you really got it they gonna see if you B it if you a a prize High School recruit your first day as a freshman on the campus of USC what them seniors gonna do they gonna see a you about it that’s basketball ex exactly exact that’s that’s the one that came into my mind right but that’s that’s what it is in men’s uh in a men’s game and women game and all football basketball all this other stuff the the Elder statement Elder Statesmen are going to they going to check your heart a little bit and see if you are worthy of all the praise that you’re getting just if you tough it out or anything else like that and I don’t think what’s happening in my opinion I don’t think what’s happening is any I don’t want to say different because the picking up 94 feet maybe that is a little different but I don’t think she like I was talking up 30 up 30 and like not not shooting the second free throw it’s like they they not giving her they not giving her an inch they’re not giving her an inch not at all but at the same time because I got into uh back and forth with my man Dr David and that’s my guy I know he’s in the chat but he was talking about all these cheap shots on Caitlyn Clark man there ain’t no cheap shots on Caitlyn Clark there the the one from Kennedy was a cheap shot everything else is they being physical it’s a physical game there is some flopping going on with Caitlyn nobody wants to talk about that but I’m not even gonna bring that up because I like Kaitlin like I rock people are talking about it those people that are in their own silos they have their own like company party line it feels very like everybody’s got the party line and both things are sort of true at the same time yeah I and I I like Caitlyn I write Daman we’ve been talking about this for almost two years now what the first thing I said about Caitlyn after she respond how she responded when Angel did that you can’t see me I like Kaylin a baller she a Hooper you know what I mean she ain’t she not tripping off this stuff as much as as everybody else is she ready to just get out there and hoop and that’s the way I look at Caitlyn but everything around her to get back to your original point I believe Angel and others in the league look at Caitlyn if something happens to Caitlyn the world’s got to stop and we gota we should bow down to her and you should be appreciative of all the money she’s giving to you like she’s not one of them you know what I mean like and and I think that builds resentment with those other players but don’t you think really quickly like if if if Caitlyn Clark was getting the same treatment I’m not saying that she should but if if Ticky Tac fouls were getting called like they do for Steph Curry and I know that that would create its own level of like the leagues protecting Caitlyn but like that’s that’s how star star players get star calls and I know she hasn’t earned the star player uh moniker yet but in terms of how much money she’s generating her endorsements in terms of attendance like she is she came into the league like LeBron as a star like wmy as a star and she is definitely not um getting those star calls at this point I I heard I heard something yesterday and I could do a little more research that she’s got like the third most fouls called against her in the league like she’s drawing the third most foul calls in the league so far as a rookie so I I don’t I don’t know if people want him to call everything or if they just don’t like like like the first game we watched d d was being physical she was I’m gon see what you got I don’t think it was anything out of the the or or like anything out of out of bounds or illegal or if she was fou or anything she was just like I’mma Be phys that’s like that’s what it is I I forget what game it was it was maybe two or three games ago because they’re playing so many games in a short span so I can’t remember who it was it might have been the Sparks and she went up I think it was the Sparks cuz they played them back to back games are like real close together one in Indie one in LA and Caitlyn went up for a layup got slapped on the arm recovered the ball got hit in the face zero foul calls and and Christy sides was she almost got ejected she ran up to the ref like how are you not calling any of this so I think the there’s it’s a lot there’s a lot to it and Damien from your perspective because you obviously have been intimately familiar with the women’s game does energetically how do you describe the extracurriculars when there’s an animosity and and how that is different between the women and the men men’s game oh well I so I think I think the number one I think the most important subject matter like every discussion about this has to start with One Singular word and the word is growth the league is experiencing an unprecedented growth in their 20 plus year history and 25 plus year history now at this point and because it’s happening at the same time as this one particular player seems to be taking over the you know imagination of of of sports writers Sports casters and maybe uh less regular W WNBA fans it’s it’s it’s it’s creating this animosity that Casey was talking about where he says this perception of the world needs to stop every time Caitlyn does something or or every time Caitlyn is fouled or every time you know Caitlyn scores 30 or hits a couple of Threes where whereas everyone else you’ve got Asia Wilson averaging like 20s something 27 points per game and they’re not really talking about Asia you mentioned arque agumba who hit one of the greatest shots in the history of women’s college basketball that’s not really discussed you you you know as much you’ve got teams like the the Connecticut sun and in in the New York Liberty looking to challenge the the building of a dynasty in Las Vegas those are all great storylines right those are all great story lines Cheryl Reeves arguably one of the best coaches in the game getting ready to coach the Olympic Squad those are all great storylines that many feel like are being casually overshadowed by Caitlyn Clark and I think when you have this moment because Casey you brought up something that got my attention a minute ago when you talked about you know the the jealousy and and the attention that Caitlyn is getting like that’s probably something a lot of players in the league felt with wmy that’s probably something a lot of players in in in in the NBA felt with LeBron but the difference with LeBron and wmy is the league was established let’s rewind a little bit further and talk about Michael Jordan let’s talk about the reaction to Michael Jordan let’s talk about your boy reaction to Michael Jordan and the most famous story involving Michael Jordan and Isaiah Thomas is what the allstar game freezing him out of the allstar game the league as we know it the W the excuse me the NBA as we know it yeah yeah yeah I see you yeah I see Tom sweets the Los Angeles Lakers are zeroing in on J reck as the front runner for the franchises head coach we’ll get to that just a second we’ll get to that we knew that was the case oh y we we were just talking about when are they going to announce this um but the league the NBA as we know it wasn’t established during that Jordan time Jordan was Caitlyn Clark Jordan was the one now magic and Larry built so much of what we know the NBA to be today Jordan captured the imagination of a different group of individuals that’s what Caitlyn Clark is doing it doesn’t mean magic and Larry didn’t establish it doesn’t mean magic and Larry didn’t put the league in a better place during their time together in 8081 82 83 84 85 so on and so on until Jordan really started to Captivate everybody’s imagination in ‘ 87 ’89 ‘ 88 ’89 and then you know just out of this world into the 990s they went hand inand together that’s easier to see in hindsight now where you have everyone being able to have an opinion you have you know there was no e there was you have 247 news Cycles you have 247 access to share your opinion the Caitlyn Clark stuff is manifested it doesn’t mean what Asia is doing now and what the Los Angeles aces are doing now or the New York Liberty and Brianna Stewart what they’re doing now it doesn’t mean that it’s not impactful it doesn’t mean that what Candace Parker and mayam Moore helped build in those Minnesota links teams and Lisa Lesley and Teresa Witherspoon and all those it doesn’t mean all of what they built is irrelevant it means that Caitlyn Clark is bringing a new audience in to look at that and I think everybody is having a tough time understanding that these two things go hand in hand the history of the W and the growth of the W we’ve been begging for the WNBA to grow for years we’ve been begging people to hey look at this league I promise you if you love basketball you will love this league we laughed at the amount of times Caitlyn Clark was on National Television or is on National Television well guess what every time Caitlyn is on National Television she’s playing another WNBA team so these people who own only know Caitlyn Clark they’re going to know Asia Wilson now they’re going to know djan they’re going to know uh uh Brianna Stewart they’re going to know all of these different players from around the league because they’re tuning in to see Caitlyn putting Caitlyn on National Television virtually every game is one of the smartest things the league has ever done to create a greater level of exposure and while it may be difficult for these athletes to deal with the fact that there’s a player who might not even be as good as them right now bringing in a different level of attention in the end it is exactly what the game needs well and especially considering that like Cowboys LeBron like these are topics on first take and on uh Undisputed and on all of the different morning shows that they continuously go back to because these These are topics that drive and and move the needle and Caitlyn Clark from the the time that she really blew up at Iowa has driven and and moved the needle and so they’re going to keep coming back and playing the hits and eventually the sport will become hopefully talked about in a more nuanced and smart way I I said this to to Damian via text but I think it’s it’s worth saying on a larger platform because I I was just talking about it earlier on a different hit it’s like smaller platform what was it yeah it was definitely a smaller platform yeah it was were you on were you on Newsmax earlier also no I was talking about Buffalo I was on WG okay I was just making sure you You’ D I thought you were talking about Memphis I thought you were saying Memphis Memphis I mean you know the I just I just hold myself out pause to do hits and just get my message out you know I don’t I out there hitting everything just you know just whatever they can all get it um but like it’s like it’s a pause um it think about it like a party and and like Caitlyn Clark has invited all these people to this this like really cool like hip underground party that like all the cool kids have known about and then she’s invited all these like more like vanilla like very new people to the part and so the party is now at capacity but there’s all these like little nuanced uh Traditions at the party like it’s a themed it’s a white party uh we play pin the tail on the donkey or you got to like bring this food or this drink to the party and like people don’t know that and they come to the party because Caitlyn invited them and they want to see what it’s all about they’re open to coming back every week or whatever it is um because it’s been happening and then they get there and people are like oh you don’t know that this is a white party like why you even here who brought you here if you don’t know like you should have been known like you like you should leave if you don’t know and that’s only going to keep uh turning people off who are just starting to get excited about this Sport and I think gatekeeping by former athletes current athletes current media is a mistake because people have bad takes about all things watch NBA Twitter watch all these NFL Twitter like people say dumb stuff all the time like Stephen A can barely remember who on the Dallas Mavericks right now you think he’s going to be able to have like a a nuanced take about the W absolutely not and so I think it’s like it’s a it’s a little unfortunate that people who have been around this league are wanting the Purity to remain when that’s not how commercialization and and mainstream goes and and to an agree it’s also a little like you know you have an artist who’s an awesome underground artist and you love their demo tape and now they’re a multiplatinum recording star and you’re hoping that they keep that inner it’s not going to happen it’s not so yeah no I hear you what I would say they’re probably thinking and a lot of you see Chan and Rebecca Lobo and these people who um went through their own tough times as rookies and and get in elbows and do all this other stuff it’s it’s like and like Daman said it’s different because the league is in as established but they might be looking at it as why why shouldn’t she have to go through the same things that we went through like what makes her different or better where she should be absolved of hard-nosed competition because like I said I push back all oned of it though I don’t I don’t think the idea but the people but the people that are attending the party are are routine and I think this is more of the issue some are and I think that it’s getting overblow I don’t think anyone the reasonable people really are like we should stop like we should let Caitlyn Clark Cook like that Jeff teag thing was outrageous and he’s the only person I’ve heard really say that you think they’re giving her cheap shots I think got shots I think there’s been some I ain’t I ain’t seen no cheap shots the the Kennedy Carter was the only one I saw I I think I don’t know about cheap I would say extra physical and I would say that there’s a Target on her which is fair because she’s been tabbed as Transcendent and then I think you have to add in the pig Beckers uh comparison and I think this is very real and not being talked about I think people maybe don’t dislike Caitlyn Clark but they believe Caitlyn Clark fans are largely racist I think they believe Caitlyn Clark fans are centering everything about her and and and then they don’t like that and if you look at what Paige Beckers has done she’s very willing to say I’m I’m I have white privilege I know that the reason I’m as popular as I am is because of how I look and I want to embrace all my you know black and brown sisters in in the W and show light to them and like I know we have to do this all together and she’s done an amazing job authentically authentically because she’s immersed in the culture I don’t think Caitlyn Clark has been immersed in the culture and I think she’s incredibly shy so I think there’s like this why can’t she do that too I think I think that’s more the case more than just like the culture like even outside of the culture talk like I think Paige is more of a outgoing personality than Caitlyn Caitlyn is a little reserved she’s a little um what’s the word I’m looking for she’s like not like on edge but she’s kind of like she she’s very she kind of closed off she don’t really say a whole lot she’s kind of quiet but when when something doesn’t go her way on the court she gets frustrated she you know she does she you’ve seen her get a couple of technicals and all this other stuff and she’s not um I don’t think she’s like for like hey this is how it’s supposed to be I’mma embrace it I’m gonna persevere through it she seems maybe a little annoyed by it and like why is this happening to me a little bit more and I think that is something that people don’t uh gravitate to as much as like a Paige like if the same thing happens to Paige next year I think Paige would be like well this just what it is I’m I’m going go hoop I’m going to do what I do like there’s not going to be any like ain’t no think pieces for me like let’s play like I’m not really worried about that I don’t know if Caitlyn has shown that as of yet but the same thing probably won’t happen to her yes because I I think it’s different when you’re from like I I laid this out the like it’s you you’ve got Yukon right like you you have the Yukon Prestige with you that makes it different that’s like the enforcer that’s like the that brand is the enforcer there’s a Sisterhood there you can’t do that to your sisters yeah and and and like you can you can run through this list and like all right so you you’ve got Sabrina Sabrina was another one who had she had the Kobe rub you disrespect Sabrina you’re essentially disrespecting Kobe Bryant you’re not going to do that you had this you had this young lady from Iowa like she doesn’t have the backing of Don Staley or gin Orma or hell like like even Candice from Tennessee you know took a beating from from like you go back and you find videos of you talk about enforcers planet Pearson was an enforcer like that Detroit shock team was the Detroit Pistons like that’s who they were like they’ll take you out and they weren’t scared they they weren’t impressed with Candace Parker at all that that’s that that there’s a there’s an insulation that comes with some of these programs that Caitlyn just didn’t have Paige does Caitlyn doesn’t mhm and I think on top of that people are like well why why is aiyah Boston you know not not like protecting her as the big on the team and it’s like well to me Aaliyah Boston was a rival of of Caitlin clarks’s Caitlin Clark sent Aaliyah Boston home when they beat South Carolina that undefeated team two years ago and Aaliyah Boston was supposed to be the franchise player of the Indiana Fever she wins rookie of the year and then she comes in and now if I’m her I may think at 20-some years old what am I like just scrap liver now like Caitlyn Clark comes into town and all the things that I’ve done just like doesn’t really matter anymore and now I got to delete my Twitter because everybody’s basically saying that I’m making Caitlyn Clark look worse um I don’t really know if I want to protect or stand up for her for that way like these these young women are also some of them are are not exactly grown adults yeah in in concludes my thought I appreciate you guys let me come on your show and and talk about this a little bit but uh but I think I think this is the the the picking up full court 94 feet that’s a little different but I don’t think it’s drastically different than anything that any athlete has to go through as a high-profile person moving to another level like I I I really don’t I think the the lights are brighter there’s more eyes on it but I think in any walk aot like I said the eighth grader going to play Varsity in high school them Juniors and seniors is going to rough him up until he shows I’m here to stay I’m not going back down and and and so on and so on and I think that’s what’s going on with Caitlyn and I think Caitlyn is Tough Enough where she gonna get through all this Caitlin will be just fine Caitlin will be you think that’s true do you think that the defense that we’re seeing on Caitlyn Clark is something that every uh like highly touted player goes through yeah I don’t remember seeing anything like this um yeah I I don’t remember I I often bring up Skyler Diggins in the way she was treated in the league she was a fraction of the player her rookie year that Caitlyn Clark is now like she wasn’t even very good her rookie year like she busted her ass to become a lot better but like the league had feelings about Skyler and the attention she got and you would see and this is where I think things got really magnified perhaps unfairly casy this this weekend because you talk about the U uh you know cheap shots and and these different things picking up 94 feet all all of this stuff the Kennedy Carter played allowed a a light to be shined on what was happening that wasn’t related to the Kennedy Clark play like the the the the thing that stands or Kennedy Carter excuse me the Kennedy Carter play wasn’t a basketball play right so it looked lame it’s like yo what are you doing that’s why it looks like hate it looks like jealousy it looks like stupidity it looks like the inability to control your emotions in reality it wasn’t even that harmful the screen that she took from the Liberty which was just the basketball play that took her out of the game the next night that was significantly harder than what Kennedy Carter did but it was a basketball play that was the difference you take a hard foul it’s basketball you take a hard screen hell I think it was game one where we were debating who’s at fault I is is is uh Caitlyn at Clark is Caitlyn at fault for being unaware of where she was on the court and taking that hard screen or is her team at fault for not calling out the fact she was about to get leveled still no matter whose fault it is it was a basketball play the Kennedy Carter play the other day allowed a light to be shined on all of this and it lumped all of this into one thing when in reality this was entirely something different she’s taking hard basketball plays she’s getting picked up 90 feet because there’s no one else to guard on that team that’s that’s the thing you’re defending in the paint that’s what I was gonna say no but that’s what that’s what I was gonna say like for with all due respect like no for a point of reference um scoot Henderson isn’t going to have to deal with Marcus Smart all the time because because ant Simons is on there or maybe Shaden sharp like there is no Shaden sharp there is no Anthony Simons on Indiana like you’re getting the best perimeter defender on Caitlyn Clark because there’s no other people on the perimeter that you really got to deal with but it’s also like why why when you know this team is ass and there’s no one else do you double and triple team her in the fourth quarter like in your up 20 it’s it’s like it’s laying it on thick you know what I mean like it’s it’s one thing to Play Def defense and like shut her down it’s another thing to be like I we we want you to do nothing like zero even in garbage time nothing nothing easy nothing easy nothing nothing easy that did not occur for Sabrina that did not occur for Sabrina I watched every Sabrina game no yeah I mean like I said and that Liberty team was ass that was a Terri there’s a there’s absolutely a level of um oh here comes the new girl we we going to show her she got all you know she got all this hype and all this we going to show her with the with the with the w 28 M 28 M for that Nike n Nike Wilson ball deal all right she gonna have to she gonna have to work through that that to me to me personally it’s completely understandable like maybe that’s why I’m not as taking a back by like it makes perfect sense it’s completely understandable Caitlyn’s goingon to have to figure it out and Caitlyn will figure it out out and she’s already it’s not like she’s playing bad she’s averaging like 17 and a half like she’s she’s got to like work on some things and learn some stuff but Kaitlin is she’s figuring it out on the fly as it is as many points rebounds and assists total as as Sabrina and no one else is in that category she’s obviously doing great um I don’t I don’t think I care as much about what I’m seeing on the floor as just what I’m seeing on Twitter and it’s like the same people running through the same tired rhetoric and you already know what they’re going to say like every time like every time Stephen A says something or Charles Barkley says something or Lebron says something it’s like you know this Uncle this you know and it’s like black folks in in media these very small sector that are like pushing different agendas that I I particularly think is is adding fuel to the fire where it’s like let’s just focus back back on basketball I am curious though what you guys think and they’re obviously tanking they’re not gonna win I mean they’re not intentionally tanking they’re not tanking they stink not tanking they stink like the mystics are tanking what they are are just a bad team um if Caitlyn Clark and Paige Beckers are in the back court together next year uh how how does that how does that change things they G they’re gonna be good pretty maybe not the first year but they’re gonna be good eventually they’ll be real they won’t be able to do those things to Caitlyn that they neither one of them because you got probably won’t either like that that’s the other thing like like they they probably won’t like at some point they’re all going to realize you talk about the 28 million from Nike like these players are eaten you know what I mean and and and it and it feels like and it I I I know I I have my opinion on on Angel and I’ve also tried to be fair to her and thinking that I see signs of her being better than I thought but you mention the the you know uh the Larry Bird magic thing and I think that was a popular sentiment and all of that she’s not magic to her Larry like or her Larry to her magic yeah like there’s Angel’s not that like she has a moment in history that’s tied to Caitlyn and the world tuned in the Sports World tuned in for the for the for for the for the rematch like it was a heavyweight fight but that’s kind of where it ends these are two very very different tiered players and I’m fearful Angel’s going to lose this rookie season by being caught up in some of that stuff instead of you know working on the things that could truly make her a special player in this league she’s still talking about Caitlyn Clark it’s like why are you still talking about her you you have something there your team has an identity focus on that when you play the Indiana Fever y you do what you do but like I feel like in some way shape or form she’s constantly bringing Caitlyn clay when she’s talking about uh charter flights or or winning games not because of one player different it’s like yo like why are you doing this like let that go and I think she got a little caught up in the angel and Caitlyn are going to change the league conversation where that was not true then it’s not true today and it was never true and it feels like a lot of the the chatter about Caitlyn comes from there and there is a a a culture defining split when it comes to Caitlyn and and and Angel yes and given what we’re all about to experience from now till October it’s heightened and it’s it’s two players at the right or wrong depending on how you want to look at it time in American history that is creating this conversation and it’s all taking place why a league that’s 27 years old now is experiencing its biggest growth spurt yeah I I agree I agree 100% um Angel y want to make fun of JJ for a few minutes or yeah oh man go ahead no no everybody got there I mean do we do we feel good about where we’re at I know you wanted to talk about this is everybody feel good about I feel good I just I just wanted to I don’t think I don’t think it’s as excessive as people are making it out to be I do think she’s uh they’re competing super hard against her for sure they’re getting after it for sure I I agree with that but like I said my man Dr David he’s in the chat that’s my guy you know the the whole talks of cheap shots there ain’t no cheap shots going on with Caitlyn they’re they’re not like people got to stop saying that there ain’t no cheap shots going on they they talked about one of the ones he said was a cheap shot was the one in Seattle when the girl blocked her shot blocked her shot and then hit her in the head it was a cheap shot on Caitlyn no we got to stop that she got hit in the head for sure but it was a play on the ball being being made so I don’t think cheap shots are going on I think they they they testing her I think Caitlin will pass the test and she she’s a true she’s a true baller she a Hooper for real and and hopefully at some point we just get get to to look at her just playing basketball and not worried about all the other stuff sources have described Lakers and officials as infatuated with JJ reick and his potential oh man uh for those just tuning in the Los Angeles Lakers are quote zeroing in on JJ reck as the front runner for the franchises next head coach uh League sources tell sham chirania reck is serving as an analyst during the NBA finals and a move is not expected to be announced until after I mean it’s it’s a they really did it we joked about it for weeks but they really did it JJ wow does he give the podcast like does it does it still like the mind the game and the old man hope not yeah I I would think I expect to yeah I would think you in that like it’s done now just end it like Fe keep it going keep it going every Sunday night we hear from coach JJ just give me the numbers just give me the numbers and let me know what they’re paying JJ because we’ve been speculating uh Trista Casey and I have that he’s gonna reset the market a little bit as coaching salaries are are on the rise a little bit we think he might reset the market a little bit no for first year head coaches higher oh yeah I don’t think JJ’s taking this job for four and a half five million dollars you think he’s getting like Mike Brown money not that I think he I think he’s gonna get seven or eight yeah yep I do do it at that point to do it at that point and and it’s like I think he gets 7 million that’s the number I’ll settle on I think he’s going to get $7 million a year wow I don’t even know what I’m speechless well think about it what do you think he makes podcasting maybe a million maybe more two yeah and ESPN he can’t do that anymore so maybe that’s that’s gotta be I mean that’s got to be at at at the very least two million yeah you’re at 4 million right now yeah and you’re not going to do it for anything close to that hey you ain’t gonna pay me what you pay Darin ham I’m JJ reick yeah he gonna get paid what that mean I’m JJ reck like I’m a JJ reic you’re infatuated with me and and LeBron loves him so that’s there you know that’s a thing are you being told to hang up you keep no the the baby the baby’s crying I’m pulling a Trista here they tell me to they tell me oh we did this hit at the same time this is incredible this this is fantastic good go ahead go take care of the baby man feel better all right man I appreciate y’all man much all man all right co co co Kenny right there going to Daddy dud good good thing the entire house has covid um but yeah so it looks like uh JJ reick is the next Lakers head coach I just incredible that’s just incredible to me I can’t wait to see how this flies off the immediately I really am intrigued I’m also intrigued by like Rob pinka and what moves he’s gonna make in this off season yeah jeie bus is a she’s an interesting she’s an interesting individual for she doesn’t know what she’s doing what well that’s one way of of descri that feels harsh it feels like she’s just really protective loyal and like she gets man she just gets wrapped up like she doesn’t want to venture outside of her Circle and like she wants LeBron to kind of be part of this circle so bad that if LeBron wants JJ reick to be his head coach that’s what they have to recognize the Optics of this are absolutely bananas we think that they’re like balloony Tunes you know like we look at the Lakers like the the Lakers make decisions that no well-run franchise would ever make your best friend was a former Laker girl and is making basketball operations decisions from what I hear and I’ve heard it for years Linda rambus is like like Genie’s first yep like Confidant decision maker ear sounding board and that’s crazy Kurt Rambis obviously still in the mix too because why not like why you’ve got uh one of jeie bus’s Brothers I think I forget which one it is he’s in the mix still there like finagling Kobe Bryant’s former agent is the GM yeah and he’s clearly making so many mistakes and you will not let him go because of the Kobe connection and the Loyalty that you have now you got you think she’s still talking to Irvin like she say and Magic still somewhere who knows just sneak thissing and tweeting yep and now you got the next magic and LeBron and his wishes and she’s just like managing them all and nobody really knows how to do this they should hire Tim Connelly they should hire Tim Connelly well that’s where we’ll end this because we literally can’t push the commercial break anywhere else we love you TJ I love you back all right Trista cck um and Ki Kenny so it’s out there that’s why Casey’s not here we’ll come back man what a great day for Jason Jones to be with us he’ll join us in about 30 minutes um lot there steo and KC brought to you by Sky River Casino and Sacramento sports leader ESPN 1320 already got it season 3 winning time starts with the Celtics raising Banner 18 JJ Reddit getting hired we’re back let’s do it baby that’s perfect a joke oh that’s amazing absolutely amazing I can’t believe that they did it um guys let me grab my juice and oranges real quick I’ll I’ll uh I’ll be back in 20 seconds don’t go Dr David entertain him all right my bad infatuated I love that they dropped this just as we were talking about it too happens a lot on this show oh man man we speak we speak [ __ ] into an ex existence here I’m all for it oranges has literally become my favorite thing I just can’t get over how much I’ve grown to love those things oh I appreciate you Kyle Kyle said he enjoyed that conversation that was mostly uh trist and Kenny though I just kind of sat back and shut the hell up I didn’t even bother texting like hey are we going to break I was like no let’s just take the whole 43 minutes we just go yeah [ __ ] Trista didn’t look like she was done I we could have kept going I don’t think we can push this commercial anywhere else yeah Aldren I think the Clipper show is available the first two episodes are on uh Hulu now um so I I I think you could watch it you know of course you don’t want to watch it right now now you watch it four but yeah I know I’m I’m watching them tonight oh I like Granny Smith apples St Ramsey I’ve never had this juice before so let’s cross our fingers Granny Smith apples are the best ones the other ones are pretty average for the most part I think yeah I don’t like them when they’re like the ones that you make pie with with it Fuji Fiji Fuji I don’t like that I don’t like soft apples yeah thing yeah need a crisp need a need a crunch to it yeah everyone watch clip it’s a homework assignment for tonight oh yeah we spending two hours on that if it’s good tomorrow God Justine shoes are loud my goodness I can even hear him on the carpet it’s pretty active today out here it it is like there was just like 20 people in the like everyone who was here was just in the like did I miss a meeting the hell is going on in here David I’m trying this new Urban remedy green juice this one’s called glow it’s got cucumber celery lemon spinach kale E3 Live I don’t know what that is and parsley and it’s all organic that’s a little different than um pressed pressed isn’t organic this is organic so just trying something different man it was a great conversation with uh KC and and TK um hopefully KY will be back with us um even remotely um I can’t Envision I I was thinking about that earlier I don’t see how Kenny can do the show from home not with like James HR a couple times well yeah his connection was ass but but he also has a family at home yeah well more specifically Ryan yeah like if if Ryan wants to scream and cry she’s going to scream and cry and there’s nothing you can do about it bring her on the show it’s content and Jasmine don’t want to hear him talk for four hours we do on KC the um earli years the early years that’s right yeah that’s right that was pre-c baby um yeah there’s a boy there’s a lot went on those early early years those two hour years for D and KC crazy stuff man what’s as crazy as JJ Reddit going to the Lakers huh the funny the best part about this is we had all convinced ourselves this was going to happen like we’ve talked about it for it’s got to be over a month at this point I feel like we were like lowkey joking about it at first like hey wouldn’t that be pretty funny if that happened like it probably won’t but the fact that it’s actually happening is like wow they really did and I guess it’s hey no like JJ I’m sure is brilliant like I’m sure JJ has all of the I’m sure JJ has the ability to be a head coach it’s one of those things where it’s like oh really your first gig is the Los Angeles Lakers with LeBron James and Anthony Davis and there’s people who are absolutely GNA feel a certain way about this given the fact that Steve Nash got to get his first job as the coach of a super team in Brookland but the Optics are just in incredible it’s either insane or the greatest move of all time man the idea that LeBron James starts a podcast where it’s not your hey let’s just kick back and Talk podcast like it’s a let’s break down the game in a way that maybe hasn’t been done on a podcast before and that’s that’s what we get people to tune in for and all of a sudden your co-host is your head coach hey Co which would you think we’re wrong out there today not to mention also welcome welcome to episode three all of this is happening while LeBron James is allegedly the you know debating on whether he’s gonna become a free agent and then there’s questions of whether he’s gonna sign back with the Los Angeles Lakers his son is in the draft you’ve got the Knicks out there with the ability acquire him you’ve got the Cleveland Cavaliers out there with the ability to acquire him you think of all of the different scenarios the Los Angeles Lakers in terms of winning an NBA championship might be the worst and then you throw this JJ reic thing on top of it so does this mean LeBron is staying it has to right it has to you there’s no chance that LeBron James hasn’t been involved in this process no matter what the report was earlier there’s no chance that he hasn’t weighed in on this with Rob panker or probably let’s keep it a bu this is this is this is like we all joke about legm and all that stuff like this is full-fledged legm or at least as much power as he’s ever had maybe two things could be true LeBron could have said he liked the idea of JJ reck the followup tweet here from the athletic Lakers officials could also be infatuated with JJ reick right both of those things can be true but when you see Lakers officials you just have to assume that’s the ramus’s genie in Rob that like like who else are they talking about hell it might even be LeBron well I mean not LeBron but like the people you name that’s who makes decisions those are the decision makers it’s like as easy as hey LeBron are you say I don’t know I’d live to play for JJ reck one day though oh man man that’s not LeBron saying hire JJ reck but it’s LeBron saying hire JJ reic that’s right that’s right yep hey salute man you got to get your first job somewhere I’m not a post like JJ red becoming a head coach and all that but for a team like the Lakers who like Championship expectations and it’s just like it’s his first job you’re coaching LeBron James as well and everything that comes with that it’s it’s it’s pretty crazy the obss are wild no final decision has been made yet and the Lakers still have steps remaining in their head coaching search process imagine being a guy who has an interview with the Lakers today like what a jerk that guy is I don’t even know who imagine being James BGA like hey uh do y’all still want me to come in or no they guys just landed at LAX should I at that point I’m like hey can I maybe be an assistant the Lakers search has been seriously focused on two candidates reic and Pelicans associate head coach James BGA uh reic was the first candidate to have a face-to-face meeting uh with the Lakers three weeks ago BGA did an inperson interview with the Lakers for a second time last week and the franchise has been impressed with him during the process according to sources Anthony Davis and BGA uh overlapped in New Orleans have built a rapport recently um Lakers interviewed boy it’s never happening for Sam Cassell man man Chris Quinn uh Mike Nori and David adaman good to see David Adam has gotten a couple interviews on this run uh coaches speak extremely highly of them particularly Michael Malone uh multiple sources briefed on the manner said one person who has become a respected unofficial resource for the Lakers please say magic John I’m sorry I’m sorry no it’s Coach K oh yeah I remember yeah yeah he was the consultant or whatever they or brought along whose deep knowledge of candidates such as reic and others provides a lens into the culture the organization wants with the characteristics of a potential staff around the next head coach coach K’s in the meeting like yeah he’s really good spotted up from three he’s kind of old don’t you think no what do you think about him coaching us the idea the idea a that Coach K is a part of the Lakers coaching search is just incredible to me it’s absolutely incredible all right real quick who plays Coach K winning time oh Woody harelson there we’re set right there get woody haralson’s hair parted real nice I mean it is it is crazy to me I cannot wait to watch this tonight Lawrence Fishburn is playing Doc Rivers like Ed O’Neal is playing Donald Sterling like these are names yeah I was going to say like these are real actors and like real people like just like do like people we cover and we talk about all the time I have never been more excited for the ksfm show to end tonight like I’m gonna race on I might even make popcorn Uncle Looney says maybe Coach K played by Mr Bean there there you go well Steve Carill could play that’s what Bryce threw in there too yeah Steve Carill could absolutely play Coach K Ric has yet th th this article is unintentionally hilarious here’s the line about sources have described Lakers officials as infatuated with reck reck has yet to coach above the Youth Level broh that’s incredible hey I tell you what though that year he took the fifth graders to the to the to the um District title they they’ll never forget that oh man Steve Kerr was a general manager before he was a coach yeah with Phoenix that failed turned out to be a pretty good head coach Jason kid basically walked off the court on to the sideline and I think is enjoying his greatest success right now they tried it with Derek Fischer that was a massive failure Mark Jackson was he an assistant first or was he um coach oh good question good question that I don’t know the answer to they tried it with Steve Nash and that was a massive failure he was not he was just with the Warriors first job only job we’ll come back we’re going to talk a lot more about this with uh Jason Jones when he joins us coming up in about 20 minutes plus we had mentioned this earlier right before KC joined us we were talking about making the Sacramento Kings better maybe the kings taking a step forward well who takes a step back is it the Los Angeles Lakers we’ll talk a little bit about that steela maey brought to you by Sky River Casino here on acal Sports leader ESPN 1320 I didn’t even talk to Trista about all those baseball players being suspended or banned I don’t think it’s as big of a deal as it’s being made either because in England and stuff with the soccer and all that like benning’s legal out that um legal out there and all that they do have players who do get suspended for this stuff and all that so like it happens it’s just something that happens I think rather than oh look at of course or whatever like it’s just I don’t know like guess I guess it’s bad but just a matter of it’s gonna happen I don’t even feel like it’s being made that big of a deal may I think well I think part of it too is the caliber of player that’s true like no Pete Rose has been you know what I mean is coffee boy paper boy brother oh that’s funny uncle yeah Uncle Looney that’s exactly what I was thinking about the about the players being suspended that’s exactly like I was that’s exactly uh what I was going to bring up to Trista before that conversation got yeah shees that might be true um the difference is well much of a difference yeah he might just be one and done who do you think joins reck’s staff I have no clue I I can’t I I mean I would think you probably get a veteran coach you know as your lead assistant was the Rondo stuff real that’s a good question I can’t imagine that it is but Ian I don’t know if they were hiring but as far as them being it wasn’t out there by accident right like that came out around the same time we heard rumors that JJ was trying to put his staff together uh dowlo do you have a favorite WNBA team no not really uh I have a lot of friends still on the mystics uh I love their general manager and their he coach I wish they didn’t stink um so I root for them for sure um I like players I love Asia I enjoy the ases I’ll root for um I’ll enjoy watching the Valkyries hate the name hate the color hate everything but I’ll I’ll enjoy watching them DLo do expansion teams get the number one pick in the WNBA draft no mm-m they generally get like three or I’m sorry they generally get around four or five the weird thing is it’s not a set there’s like discretion for it it’s like almost random I don’t know how they decide do you think JJ got the job like hey if you’re G to take this job you need to draft bronnie H you think that was something that was discussed that’s a was it discussed yeah was it discussed the way you just laid it out I don’t think so but man that’s a wild off season if you hire JJ reck Jesse just proposed I didn’t even think about that if the bronny conversation has happened with JJ reck and I can’t help but that that would just be an absolutely insane off season like maybe not like you have to but hey or no Rich party said we’re not doing two-way contracts right Rich did say that never mind yeah you gotta draft Ronnie then yep yep what an off season if you wind up drafting bronny James and hiring JJ reick to be your head coach LeBron James’s podcast partner wish Kenny was here to talk about it be amazing feel better Kenny yeah we um I’m I’m excited we got Jason Jones today I don’t know if Jason Jones is banging his head against the wall or what but uh we’ll find out coming up uh in a little less than 20 minutes our man from the athletic will be with us um and right now you can head over to ESPN 1320.com got a couple of days left to enter to win tickets to WWE Smackdown at the golden one front row tickets to WWE Smackdown at the golden one Center on September 20th you think JJ Reddit gets a character en clipped yeah Didn’t I think we saw him I think we saw JJ in the trailer gosh we actually wondered is that JJ yeah the means this year if the Lakers don’t work out are gonna be great oh he’s there oh they’re gonna be so good oh they’re going to be so good for those that don’t know clipped the uh the Donald Sterling Los Angeles Clippers series uh is available on Hulu starting today at least the first two episodes are it’s only a total of six episodes so it runs from now until like the first week of July or something like that because they dropped the first two episodes uh today so I will be racing home uh Following the ksfm show at 7 o’clock and and watching both of those episodes uh and we will be talking about it in length I’m sure uh coming up tomorrow uh so here’s what we got today Christian mcaffry signs a contract extension uh with the San Francisco 49ers we discussed that in depth with Kyle Matson uh if you want an in-depth breakdown of that contract make sure you subscribe to the podcast search D1 KC across your favorite podcast platforms whether it’s Odyssey TuneIn or if it’s apple or Spotify just search D1 KC if you have the ability to leave us a rating or a review that would be fantastic but we talked for about 30 some odd minutes about this contract what it means and what this could mean for the San Francisco 49ers moving forward as they are facing a reality of having some of the top played players in the league at every single position um with Brandon auk’s New Deal on the way where he’s likely to be just outside of the top five and then of course the game changing deal that will certainly come for Brock pie this off season so that’s kind of how we started the day we spent a lot of time talking about the Sacramento Kings as we always do here and you know we’ve kind of weaved our way in and out of you know offseason stories and Keon Ellis and the normal Malik monk conversation and all of that different stuff but we’re here talking about the Los Angeles Lakers and JJ reick we spent some time talking about the New Orleans Pelicans obviously there’s the Brandon Ingram tie-in right there and we know that David Griffith said y we’ve got to make changes that’s a team that’s not looking to blow things up that’s a looking that’s a team that’s looking to get better and you start looking at you start looking across the conference and wondering Y what what exactly do we do we have right here you’ve got Mike buen holer stepping in with with with the Phoenix Suns I don’t I’m not the biggest Frank vogle guy I’m not I I don’t I don’t I’m kind of indifferent on Frank vogle I just wouldn’t Point anything that went wrong for Phoenix like at him he didn’t have the resources to make it work it doesn’t feel like it you can’t just I guess you can but like throw together KD Booker and build together be like okay when of you guys play point guard like it’s just professional basketball in the NBA I just don’t think it works that way and so I’m left wondering like all right like okay so Mike buher is gonna be better okay I think Mike Boer is a better Coach than Frank vogle so for sure so Phoenix isn’t going to be facing these same issues that they faced last year I think they’ll learn from their mistakes rog’s going to be the scapegoat but they’ll get the guys that they need to I don’t know how good that point guard will be or anything like that but they’ll get they’ll get the players that they need to at least to fill those roles well how they do it will certainly be an interesting story this offseason because they don’t have a lot of resources to work with um you’ve got the Los Angeles Clippers who are facing you know the the the Paul George reality ahead of them they’ve signed tyo they’ve signed kawh Leonard it it it it seems like that of of that Core Group the guy that they might be out on uh is Paul George either that or they’re just you know hard balled negotiating through the media which is an interesting way to go about things uh you know you’ve got the Lakers they’re always going to be you know a part of this conversation until they’re not the Golden State Warriors are are kind of in the vicinity of where they think they’re going to be the Warriors are a team who I thought would be uh a little bit closer to the 50 win marker last year obviously they finished with 46 uh I thought they’d be a little I actually thought they’d be a little north of 50 um I misjudged that team by a little bit but I don’t know how much better they’re going to be if they’re going to be better at all obviously the moves that they make this offseason could influence that quite a bit two teams that I’m stuck on are Dallas obviously Dallas getting ready to compete for an NBA championship I’m of the belief that they’ll be back in this conversation next year because I I think the fact that they were able to grow together so quickly [Music] that you get them you know an off season together you know and and maybe it’s magnified a little bit if things don’t go well for them against the Boston Celtics to where they’re they’re all together for a a year and you have the chance to take everything that you’ve built and build off of it headed into next season I think that could be a plus especially through the regular season with them I could see them being a 50 to 55 win team the team that I’m really not sure about and man I understand this is a complete change of of tune is the Minnesota Timberwolves the Timberwolves were dismantled so bad in the Western Conference it just left me confused about what they might be and is everyone all in again next year I’m all in on Anthony Edwards I don’t know about the other two guys I don’t know about cat and I don’t know about Rudy go so we’re I don’t know about cat no I don’t want to be too I don’t know I I I if and wasn’t great in the Western Conference Finals either I’ll say that too he kind of skated by on that but it felt like there was no one to help him either well there’s that too yeah and like that’s where your your questions about Carl Anthony towns and Rudy goar coming to play because like yeah cool if if ant-man’s even better you need one of those other guys to be better and Rudy Rudy is just not going to live this narrative about him down because he kind of just keeps proving it right like he I mean that shot that Luca hit on him is tough now would Luca have hit that shot over 50 other guys in the league sure but the 50 guys other the 50 other guys in the league don’t have you know three or four Defensive Player of the Year trophies and they’re not one of the most po Rising players in the entire league there are active discussions about Rudy goar and whether he’s even a good defender or not but when they switched to pull Rudy goar on the outside and the entire NBA Collective started laughing oh that’s tough and Rudy ain’t gonna be able to live that down but at this point like it’s it’s tough to defend like Rudy Gober yeah sure he could be a really solid Defender for 82 games a season but when it’s when you’re in a series where a team makes adjustments from game to game to game to game to game that’s where Rudy goar proves to be is most effective with a team like that you’re talking a championship you’re not talking about just making the playoffs you’re not talking about just getting to the Western Conference Finals you’re talking about winning a championship and that’s a team that’s going to face the reality that the New Orleans Pelicans are facing right now is have we gone as far as we can go now I didn’t think we were even close to that conversation with Minnesota but again looking at the way Dallas picked them apart in the Western Conference Finals it’s left me very curious about what the Minnesota Timberwolves look like moving forward now there’s also the situation with the ownership group now this is Brian winhurst so you could take it for what it’s worth Brian winhurst is a skilled reporter I have a he’s not my favorite and I do have an issue with the way he like covers some things but this was was put out there and I believe it was very strategic by Glenn Taylor’s people the current owner of the Minnesota Timberwolves who said uh you know there was you know one of the big issues with this new ownership team with Alex Rodriguez and and and mark lur was they wanted to cut the they wanted to cut the budget they wanted to cut Sal and they wanted to get rid of players and all of this other stuff of course that happened right after the Minnesota Timberwolves won a playoff series you know Vibes are Immaculate and this story just happens to come out about like look what this ownership group would do well that ownership story isn’t over yet and so winhurst had a line about how if this thing winds up in the hands of Alex Rodriguez and Mar or and I don’t know how it would or I don’t know how this process is going to play out I believe it’s in some form of arbitration or something like that that the guy who could be in the biggest trouble is Carl Anthony towns and I think part of that is because they want to move off the money and two Rudy go might be untradeable and he could be in a position they could be in a position where he is their only asset that they’re actually able to move and so that’s a 56 and 26 team last year does anybody see Minnesota falling back a little bit let us know your thoughts man you can jump in the athletic joins us next here on Sacramento sports leader ESPN 1320 don’t forget the Thunder I don’t think the Thunder are going to fall off to be honest I think the Thunder will be right there next year I think Denver will be right there next year you think Brandon Ingram is the best name to get moved this off season let’s assume he does get moved because they’re not going to Max him I’m going to say yes I’m looking at all these I’m looking at all the other teams you think Donovan Mitchell signs an extension yeah you don’t pass up that money what about Mel Bridges I think there’s starting to be some smoke with the rockets and um the third pick um shout out we for pulling that name in the chat I saw that this morning too man if Mikel winds up in Houston yeah that’ll suck that’ll suck because Houston doesn’t have to be a ton better they got to be a little better and that could help them be a little bit better yeah I’d hate that that would suck y’all think Jimmy Butler stays in Miami you think so I do I feel like it’s more push back to him like not getting a Max there at least from what I’ve seen so you think they trade him I’m not sure yet but I don’t I’m not so sure that he’s like just going to stay maybe they work something out maybe they’re just doing the whole negotiating on Twitter thing or whatever but yeah I’m not sure that seems kind of weird Hassam says heat almost traded for Allan Iverson I missed that I think I think PG ends up with the Sixers for the fact that they’re desperate to max out anybody to play there right now they really are but how do they acquire him to free agency they have cap space PG Ops out is that this year I’m pretty sure that’s this year oh yeah yeah yeah they are desperate to throw anything at somebody they have linked themselves to virtually everyone player option 48.7 he can you go to Philly with uh what Harden went through what Harden go through I guess darl Mory lied to him but I mean was there more wrong though oh have we done pocket watching on Paul George my goodness I think so I’m sure we have but [ __ ] if he doesn’t pick up that option 305 m332 86 salute The Right Move Ley no no issues I repeat ter Mor is a liar oh that’s funny that was an altimer them poor kids they just wanted just wanted their basketball signed I saw I’m talking about it you think Paul George should have his number retired by the Pacers I saw him talking about that too he wants it retired by the Pacers and the Clippers yeah settle down Paul that was both I’d said no to both yeah I think I would too yeah I don’t I don’t I think I would too I don’t yeah yeah I think I would too D roen Demar de R rozan would be an interesting one to follow too talking about where Paul George May land Demar D rozan some of these different players Paul it does man you you bring that up Jesse it does feel like Paul George is on his way to Philadelphia I think so or I mean they’re gonna they more desperate I think I think he’s really desperate he’s probably he’s not talking about much but he’s probably feeling his seat a little hot right now Paul George and Joel Tyrese Maxi too yeah I saw that this morning that Tyrese uh yeah Tyrese Maxi is on the verge of like I mean that that’s kind of a no-brainer to make sure that uh he gets that big money time running out for Joel and B too yeah he’s already 30 right yeah yeah which is crazy to think about um and I was just that’s where do that team compete Joel Paul George Tyrese Maxi it’s it’s a top three team in the East if everyone’s healthy all right I don’t know if it’s getting out of the East but you’re in that conversation I’ll say that okay we don’t to make predictions now you’re in that conversation it’s tough because I still think Boston’s so good that I don’t know that there’s a team that could be put together that can compete with Boston like the way that they that if you just look if you did nothing else but look at rosters like right now today before a single game is played in this NBA Finals the Celtics will be my favorite next year well because you look at the Celtics it’s kind of why I’m so confident in this final series and all that that like yes the Mavs are playing great but Boston was like however many games better than Milwaukee like six games better than uh whoever was first in the west as well like it’s just they’re just on another level yeah I don’t think it’s a 5bm series what do you think six I think it’s close I think it’s six or seven I think Dallas if Dallas’s role players step up I could see that but I think like Derek white Drew holiday has been making plays KP is back Al Horford’s gonna be coming off the bench now I just think Boston’s gonna have too much do you think they lose the first game no I no yeah I don’t think they lose the first game let’s bring in our Jason Jones boy am I happy that my man Jason Jones is with us here today because his publication his employer over at the New York Times athletic just let the world know that his beloved Los Angeles Lakers are zeroing in and infatuated with JJ reick to be the next head coach of your beloved Los Angeles Lakers come on Jay I’ve been waiting like an hour and a half for this conversation I saw that tweet and I was like I should just calling sick today just be like allergies are real bad I don’t know I spray my toe uh I that’s like and I say you know what maybe this is Mark Jackson maybe this is Steve Nash I try to hope it’s Mark Jackson you know but it’s if he wasn’t doing a podcast with LeBron and then LeBron and them going out of their way to say LeBron doesn’t have any say in this it’s just like come on really like just you don’t think they would do that they would be doing this if they thought LeBron would hate this I mean we all know they’re doing everything they’re goingon to in their power to to keep him there even if you know probably including bringing his son on you know whether it be second what whatever I mean it’s almost like don’t insult our intelligence and JJ might be a very fine coach I mean this is what the I think the Lakers are like the third or fourth team to talk to him over the last couple of years so it’s not like it came completely out of thin air but I mean for you to start a podcast with the team’s you know you know top guy and then is it just looks it looks crazy like imagine me and you know I don’t say dear starts a podcast with uh I don’t know you know with Mitch Richmond and then all of a said Mitch Richmond’s a candidate everyone’s gonna go dearon probably likes this I just think it’s crazy for them to try to push out there that LeBron isn’t good with this it’s a 100% the and and and you’re right about you know JJ we tried to run down the guys like like you you used uh Mark Jackson and and Steve Nash as an example there’s also Jason kid Jason kid basically walked off the floor uh and walked onto the sideline and became a head coach then there’s Derek fiser yeah dere fer it could go you know and they threw out the Pat Riley comparison Pat Riley was an assistant coach first he just he didn’t get up from the desk with chick Hearn and start coaching yeah and I just and you know I don’t know what the equivalent would have been he overthrew the head coach his winning time taught us yeah JJ didn’t have to go through that he let you know he let what was GNA happen happen you know yeah it’s it’s just fascinating to even watch the coverage of this like he’s on ESPN and ESPN just like acting like a you know okay yeah the analyst for the NBA Finals is a finalist for one of the most you know high-profile jobs in the league okay JJ let’s talk about yeah doesn’t that put everybody in a difficult spot like come Thursday there’s the three shot of Mike Breen and Doris Burkin are you just not gonna acknowledge that JJ it’s like georis Burke Mike Green and the next coach of the Lakers and like and and and I mean just like other things like this I don’t know who’s a free agent or might be a free agent you know what if I don’t know if Derek Jones Jones Jones Jr’s available and JJ’s just whack ing poetic about all the great I mean there’s just so many things that could go along with it well if if you’re Jason kid and and I’m being 100% serious if you’re Jason kid and you see this story it’s like hey I don’t want him in these meetings like he can’t come to practice like I don’t want him talking to my players like no he’s sitting down with Joe Missoula so now when you run this what are you right come on this is just just weird and you know yeah it’s just but if it wasn’t weird it wouldn’t be the Lakers I guess not yeah I mean if it if it if it was just you know a base you know the dingham thing went way too normal for them so clearly they were like yeah let’s go ahead and just yeah yeah yeah it’s like I I I said publicly and even going back to before the Kings had Mike Brown I’m a big Sam Cassell guy I thought Sam would have been great in Sacramento I like the idea of Sam that’s was even more insulting the reports that JJ could have Sam Cassell on his staff like all the other candidates now come work for JJ yeah I mean it wouldn’t be a bad addition but how do yeah but still it’s like I said but if it wasn’t if it wasn’t weird it wouldn’t you know I don’t know what the next version of winning time or CLI will be but there’ll be there’ll be a you know made for TV series down the road where I don’t know some actors you know someone’s like maybe Justin Bieber’s playing JJ reck or the guy from clip plays JJ reick in this movie oh that’s true I have you have you watched the two episodes yet I’ve seen all I’ve seen all the episodes oh okay of course you have yeah I can’t I cannot wait to go home and watch that show man the idea of Al Bundy becoming Donald Sterling incredible I don’t know what’s more amazing Al Bundy is Donald Sterling or is Lawrence Fishburn is Rivers Furious Styles grew up Trey grew up and Furious became a coach that’s amazing it’s Ike Turner playing it’s Ike Turner or even crazier little murder from P Valley is Chris Paul oh man that is amazing and my man and actually I met Austin Scott the guy who’s playing Blake Griffin he was a kid he was in my fraternity’s talent show years ago but he was on that show sisters where he’s like the boss who shows up and is in like into the freaky stuff that guy is now he’s now Blake Griffin I can’t I can’t Jesse has the next season of winning time booked with the Celtics winning the championship this year and JJ reic being the one to try to pull the Lakers From the Ashes JJ JJ’s just going to keep selling he’s just going he’s going to completely dump on the Celtics the entire series like like he’s going to let La know he’s all in he’s just going to be like Tatum isn’t good jaylen’s overrated he’s just going yeah hell he damn near near did that when he was calling the Pacers game a couple of weeks ago yeah this is this is just this is comedy it’s like the of course the Celtics are in the finals with a Laker well not a presumed Laker coach calling it yeah amazing absolutely which is why like you almost have to acknowledge it like you have to hit that three shot on Thursday and acknowledge the report and then try to keep it moving but yeah Lakers fans are going to be listening to his uh commentary pretty closely yeah then they’ll be saying everything that daring ham wouldn’t Darin wouldn’t have thought about that they’re gonna start convincing themselves this is a great idea I know how I know how my people are in LA but you know by the time the press conference comes they will have convinced themselves that JJ is a combination of Phil Jackson Pat Riley and Greg papovich well that’s rational thinking yeah yeah is any fan I mean we seen a lot of rational talking Sports the last few days so hey I mean that scenario is probably low on the crazy at this point well it centers on something you tweeted a couple of days ago and we’ll we we’ll get you in into this conversation is I I think someone wrote uh will anyone can anyone in sports media ever admit that they’re wrong and you nope and that’s 100% it there’s two things things that people in sports media won’t admit that they’re wrong or that they don’t know and we’re seeing both of those manifest themselves at the same exact time when it comes to Caitlyn Clark and the when you throw in ego on top of that oh my this I some of the stuff I’ve seen in the last three days is just mindblowing Stephen A Smith apparently is responsible for the career of every black woman in sports media ever we never heard of any of them before him never never you know one was like the first overall pick in the WNBA draft and play for played in LA but won a championship never heard of her never nope I mean like I this and what’s crazy is I covered the WNBA when the monarchs were still around and it’s crazy that was like 20 years ago which is even insane but you have a lot of people who have never actually been around the league coming to these Grand conclusions about the league and and it’s not even about basketball anymore it’s really not it’s just I I think about in a few years you’re gonna have college courses and books about this era right now about just some of the wild things that have been said and editorials about assault I’m like we watch Draymond Green choke a man put a put put the Cina clutch on a man during a game and it was not treated like this people uring games it didn’t you know there’s just so many layers to this and I I just feel like people don’t want to have the real discussions about what they’re what they’re really fussing about I mean you had the ma mckae said something he couldn’t say on WWE man and I people are out of control now this just out of control I mean and and my thing is just that I don’t want to see all this take away from the actual games being played it’s like it’s so like stereotypical to try to turn the women’s game into a big soap opera when in actuality the men have more the have had more soap oper stuff going on probably but it’s it’s it’s just it’s been Wild wild I mean some of the stuff I’ve seen people like blatantly lying I’ve seen people say Caitlyn Clark isn’t even a good player like now come on let’s chill like yeah she’s a struggling rookie but I think anyone with sense knew this was gonna happen I think anyone with sense knows that the same way you even say you saw with a young step if you’ve got a shooter who wants to run around you put a little but you know you knock him around a little make him uncomfortable That’s Not Unusual and and the to me the biggest the biggest thing I take from this too was this that the person complaining the least is Caitlyn Clark that’s right she’s not out here saying this is not fair they’re beating me up change the it’s all these people jumping out of nowhere hey hey hey [ __ ] don’t do that you know be nice to her she’s gonna make you guys a lot of money I’m like yes it it’s it the media has not looked very good in the last few days it’s it’s it’s in a lot of way it’s been very it’s been embarrassing the funny thing about what you just mentioned about angel excuse me what you just mentioned about Caitlyn is when you go back to the angel Reese you can’t see me in the national title game a couple of years ago and that became a big think piece yeah the only one who had nothing to say about it was Caitlyn until she finally did and she was like yo that’s trash talkg yeah she’s like I was doing the same thing you know like I said she gets I it’s just it’s this weird thing that some of these men feel the need to run put their cape on and protect her when she didn’t ask for them to do that but they’re just like they run and put their cape on and oh my God you guys got to be nice and you know like I said was it was it was it a flagrant foul yet was it the most egregious thing I’ve ever seen in sports not even close the screen she took the next night was significantly harder than that flr foul was and I think what made some people mad was that there were people who tried to act like the flagrant foul was just the basketball play I’m like that wasn’t a basketball play and I I think her sub subsequent social media post kind of show that she yeah she she lost a lot of her it’s not personal credibility right with some of the stuff so I think and some somebody called her the pat Bev of the WNBA I’m like wow that’s kind of you but and the sad thing about Carter is that she played a really good game on Saturday and no one’s talking about it because well the sad thing about Carter is she’s a really good basketball player like she is a great scorer and she lets this stuff overshadow it doesn’t need to do this and they lost that game like by a point yep like 7170 I think yeah they lost by a point and she gave them a free point yep so yeah I mean I’m like let’s yeah I just hope that you know we can get back to basketball you know and not yeah because some of this stuff is just like think peace and Men thinking that they need to go in there and explain they don’t know what they’re talk it like yeah you’ve been around the W you know it’s a phys we we know it’s a physical game M but you see a lot of people have clearly long Griffith played here we know the game is yeah come on I’m like you know I yeah you know I I I covered demaya and all yeah it’s a physical game yeah it but it it it it just like you you mentioned these stink pieces and and people it encompasses race gender sexuality it en covers like all of these hot button things that in this year in this election season those are the things that are going to be at the Forefront of this country for the next four or five months and oh here it is it’s encompassed in a nice little uh basketball game when uh by the way football what we got otaa is going on we got we got two months before uh two months between the Conference Finals and the NBA Finals actually happening the draft is far away free agency is far away it happened at the perfect time to create a three or four day conversation yeah and the think about it like you got people you got these weird political people who know they don’t give a damn about the WNBA using this as like see Caitlyn Clark is being attacked because of her sexuality and race I’m like y oh I I said it’s she she Angel you know a lot of these players have you know Thomas they’ve all become these symbols in like arguments and discussions that really have nothing to do with that that really aren’t about them but they become these symbols now of I’m pretty sure Caitlyn didn’t sign up to be the symbol of you know the extreme right I don’t think I don’t think Angel signed up to be a symbol for you know the extreme on the other end it’s just hey you know like you said you know was a holiday you know coming off a holiday weekend no no NBA B no one really cares about baseball yet guess what let’s go ahead and turn this into some you know Grand controversy if Dak Prescott had signed a contract Monday morning this would have never happened it all goes back to the Dallas Cowboys messing it up for us somehow always it is Justin Jefferson’s deal enough to get to move people no no because he ain’t a Dallas Cowboy yeah got to be a Dallas Cowboy and you can uh hell even Darren Waller’s uh ridiculous videos didn’t help calm this all down my God he ended up being the best trade that Josh McDaniels made man even though I’d heard Whispers that pretty much like after the trade I was like what’s going on someone was like trust me they got this one right that guy is not gonna play football much longer [Music] and just to kind of I mean who makes a video like that that’s he made a couple of them where it’s like sir somebody I just don’t know how no one talked him out of it like no don’t do this n n d this ain’t it don’t do this don’t post that for people to see it’s cool you made it we saw it like don’t let the world see that yeah don’t don’t don’t don’t put out a video with a fake Kelsey plume stabbing you in the back yeah please don’t and what was that scene at the end where he’s laying on the beach it’s like dude what is this and like yeah this is just yeah I have a friend of the Giants fan he’s like thanks for nothing I’m like hey we we’ll roll with Brock Bowers out in in in Vegas you know there you go were you out in Vegas recently I’m I’m seeing the shirt and I’m wondering if you were at The Residency oh yeah I went out there in April yeah yeah I wasn’t oh I loved it but then again I’m like the biggest Mirage car fan anyone knows and like it’s it’s one of those Revelations that people go you they’re like okay your favorite rapper all time is Ice Cube and then you go to this I’m like I’m like I can’t have versatility in my music how’ she sound we we Kenny Casey and I debate that all of the time I think we we we sent some people on on 1025 to see her in Vegas and I know she extended The Residency so obviously it was going really well they added some more dates but I was like can she still pull it off sounded great like I said I’m also admittedly biased but sounded it was great sounded great it was one of those ones where you go with your girl and I’m like would you hurry up I can’t be late there you I’m like you look fine let’s go like if I miss the first song dealing with you I’m gonna have an attitude tonight if I miss emotions be I’m like if I yeah I’m like I’m like I can’t miss any you know and she’s looking at me like this is crazy I’m like looking at you like sir you’re ridiculous come on she I’m like hey everyone has because she’s like seen me at like we’ve seen like juven like like we’ve seen all I’m a concert junkie so yeah but yeah I I I loved the show Mariah was one of the only PE one of my like my the last of my favorites who were still alive i’ never seen i’ seen pretty much everyone else I I caught Kendrick in Sacramento the last go around I’ve seen Snoop a bunch of times you know I’ve seen Jay I’ve seen Nas at least what three least three times seen Public Enemy you know so I think if people I like maybe Eminem might be the you know might be the might be left but I’ve pretty much seen everyone that I’ve ever like grown up like and listening to what you think of Houdini H it is I mean it’s like I kind of want to see where it fits in the album yeah because I’m just kind of like it reminded me of that era when it when he was like really on that but I’m like that wasn’t my favorite version of him I’m I’m I’m exactly the same way I just feel like that was the point yeah I think especially when you see the video and you realize all right he’s he’s pull okay I I he’s spoofing this version of him you know that’s the version when everyone says his music doesn’t stand the they’re talking about you know kind of that you know and I think at his age now he’s not going to rap about some of the same stuff that he did is that version of Slum Shady when I heard it in the 90s I’m like this stuff is amazing right I was like wow you know but I I really want to see where it fits in the album and kind of whatever this real you know death of Slim Shady is when you first when you said Houdini I was like man they’re great back in the day I love Houdini I was like oh no not that Houdini you know but I I really want to see where it fits in the big scheme of the album you know but you know I think a lot of you know rappers from the 90s were making good music I mean it’s like the whole adult contemporary rap game is cool the dog pounds album the album is great it’s like you know it’s but you know I’m like I’m embracing my you know know middle 40s and the fact that all my rappers who were I loved in the 990s or like now we’re all like they even rap about I’d rather stay home well well Method Man was talking about I ain’t going to Summer Jam no more that was wild then seeing these people these youngers in the comments man when was Method Man ever good like we ain’t never you the dude from power man what are you talking about we didn’t even know you rapped that was a when I saw the lineup for Summer Jam I was like the the problem isn’t the crowd the problem’s the the lineup is there to see like DOA cat like how you going to tie Doak cat and Method Man and Red Man together yeah it’s kind of like I wouldn’t buy a ticket I’m like I don’t want to see anybody but like this right and I wouldn’t pay to get in to watch meth and red like all right cool I’m done yeah yeah and I actually I saw meth with a couple of years ago in Oakland that wuang Nas tour and he wasn’t advertised because he was he wasn’t on tour with him but then he joined him in Oakland so I was like I yo I I I met some of the guys from the wo couple few years ago with Allstar New Orleans that was the highlight of the DeMarcus Cousins trade weekend oh God I was able I was able to work my way into the VIP and and meet met meet rayquan and ghost face oh that’s fire yes so I was like yeah and my man from we weren’t at the athletic together back then Tony Jones was mad because he left and he’s from New York I’m like I’m like Tony I know I I know the man’s right here just stay with me stay with me we gonna get in man I’m leaving then I a picture later on with me in ghost face like I hate you like should told you to kick it with me and the kings were good about that too whenever had a rapper performing they always made sure I met the rapper oh that’s hot they always like hey Jason you know we got Candyman over here I’m like oh what knocking oh yeah we got two short over here I’m mad I missed sugarfree this past season yeah he was here for warriors game yeah so I’m like but yeah they the Kings always good with like hey Jason just so you know I I can’t say nothing but two Short’s going to Walk This Way yyang twins are here tonight knee braces and all yeah need to get J rule out there to apologize I don’t think we do we can we yeah J Rule cursed the Kings and now and then he turned around and he cursed the Knicks this year the moment I saw that picture with the trophy I said oh they’re they’re cooked they’re done nothing why would you let J Rule POS with the trophy I love the idea that J Rule has any sort of power on anything like that but I guess it’s the power for failure so yeah J just 50 Cent goes off he’s like oh man look what y’all did you let him do it oh yeah 50 gonna get his jokes off yeah no matter what yeah yeah 50 50 yeah 50 been on one though I mean well he he stays on one you know he was telling us about Mr comes for a minute well he was and now he’s like all right y’all didn’t believe me y’all believe me now I’m now he’s got a documentary that he’s going to put out he had that whole story that one time puff was like oh he wanted to take him shopping he’s like what do you mean you want to take me shopping right in the story sounded so bizarre it was like he asked he he was gonna take 50 cents shopping likeing like this don’t even make sense and then you start putting all the pieces together where it’s like oh like that Rolling Stone are article was just like that was brutal I was just like this is I mean this is like fascinating but in a bad way it’s just like how did this go on for so long and you know it’s just well we you know why you know as somebody said hey some folks were cool to let whatever happen as long as they got to say they they could post a picture with puff on Instagram yeah that’s that was the that was the the R Kelly stuff like yeah it’s the thing in California I heard about R Kelly from people everybody everybody knew about R Kelly and everyone looked the other way until it wasn’t okay to look the other way anymore like everyone ignored it everyone including us played the records everyone just yeah no we can’t uh We Can’t Fly R Kelly out here because like he’s you know he can’t leave Chicago so we’re gonna send you to him like that that was real like you sent radio listeners to his house in in in Chicago like all of that was real and so when I read the Rolling Stone article my first thing was how many people knew and just let this all happen yeah I mean there one quote where someone’s at the party and they’re like do y’all just let him yell at her like this how come no one’s saying anything like does he just curse her out in public all the time like what’s going on and they just like people like oh yeah this is what he does and like the story of him like hanging people over the balcony and come to a settlement with one of her friends and and and then you got the weirdos coming to his defense like well she I’m like no you can’t defend this like and you’re a sicko for trying to defend it there’s yeah it’s it’s wow that was a that that there are reasons to roll your eyes at journalism in in 2024 but that that Rolling Stone article was a reason to be like man this this this when done right is still beautiful profession yeah I got that was a hell of an article ignore the people who yell at each other for the sake of yelling at each other and we have pl we we have enough of those where they just yell for the sake of yelling and it’s like okay why are you so angry you don’t even know these people and I mean I’m pretty sure your listeners know but a lot of people don’t realize a lot of those folks on TV doing the yelling haven’t been to a game in years don’t talk to these athletes at all but they sit on TV and speak with this Authority like oh I know what they were thinking they don’t know and it’s it’s it’s become one of the biggest hustles because now all these young journalists think the way to get to the top is to imitate that so you got a bunch of young screamers now young you know just let’s find a hot take and go viral it’s transitioning from being a journalist which a lot of these guys once were to being an Entertainer yeah and I think some of them admit they’re entertainers now yeah and you know other ones you know some of them try to walk and then you know you got fine line to walk right there man it’s it’s not easy it’s not easy because you know I think because once you transition to Entertainer your access becomes different so now God even when I changed from being a beat writer to what I do now it’s amazing people people call me back now oh you’re not calling me about the bad game oh yeah we can talk people return my calls all the time now before I couldn’t get I couldn’t get agents to call me back for nothing I’m trying to find out the king I’m like it was like I’ll text you but you can’t say oh yeah we can talk on the record now I like oh wow it’s yeah it’s so I understand Jason like why didn’t I do this earlier yeah I understand the tension of it though because you know the way the business is now the guys on the ground the women on the ground the beat riters get treated like crap they they go to all the games all the practices all that stuff to have these teams and agents and players then go to someone who’s never there that’s right I said it’s and and it’s and I I could speak for a lot of beat it’s the moralizing sure you do all that work you talk I mean there’s guys who will talk to a player at their Locker on a Thursday night and the guy will say hey don’t use it’s happened to me before don’t use it yet I gotta you know and then two minutes later W tweets it and you’re like but but you’re in a tough spot because if you burn the the guy you got to see him every day if W’s burn him it don’t matter because he ain’t he’s not coming to a game any ever or anytime soon so it’s tough it’s tough in sports journalism now and it really and I’ve seen some articles about that too kind of the future of sports journalism what’s going to happen just because this constant tension and the way the business is evolving it’s tough the Kings went through it this past weekend with the Mike Brown stuff we said last week this ain’t this isn’t a big deal it’s May but you would have read social media you would have thought Mike Brown was walking out on them then it gets done it’s like okay none of that ever happened but what it does is it send all the local beat writers into a frenzy trying to figure out what’s going on when they’re just using you know the media’s pawns and negotiations yeah that’s and and you know what the difference in that is and we we talked a little bit about this last week was or earlier this week I should say it was like the difference was WJ and Shams right they’re kind of the definitive markers in conversations like this so if we had said yeah um you know Mike and the kings are negotiating like it it seems to hit a stall though but we’re not really sure what’s going on but we’re confident it’s all going to get worked out there’s no story there no W says the same thing using less words on a tweet and now now it’s bigger now it’s much bigger and it speaks to I mean it it speaks to the level of reporter those guys are but it’s also uh it’s also what makes this all fuzzy because then it immediately became okay wait why is this out there well W do it come from the agents or the players then you get the Shams tweet with numbers attached to it and it’s like oh wait a minute that definitely came from the team and now we’re dissecting who’s backstabbing who here in this process who tweeted it then a day and a half later King mik Brown have reached a deal like deal done why what it’s like you got people you know pulling their hair out trying to figure out what’s going to happen next I’m like chill folks it’s May it’s gonna be it’s GNA be fine Mike’s not leaving and here we are and now I gotta worry about you know Coach K advising Rob Blan that’s another part before that’s another part of the Sham his advisor is Coach K that is so funny Coach Kay who was tight with LeBron and Coach JJ reick is gonna recommend Sam Cassell sure sure the pointless addition of Coach K to this whole thing has by far been my favorite part of the Lakers off season just like and randomly Coach K is advising them like what are we doing here but they’re like oh no not these other outside forces have nothing to do with this nothing at all just because you know yeah I’m pretty sure James Rego when there sat for his interview and was like he’s like I don’t know Coach K like that I’m I’m not getting this job oh man that is wild the man’s college coaches the advi and I thought it was crazy when they were talking about the rampus family being involved gonna ask Coach K should he or should he not hire his player it make it even funnier if Coach K was like nah he’s ass you don’t want to hire him Coach K’s just like he’s a bit an leave him leave him leave him there that would be like Mike Brown want to hire someone need like are you cool with Mike Brown like or like the warrior connection like you know I’m gonna get somebody from the Warriors Mike’s like nah the Warriors don’t know what they’re doing over there I was there they’re they’re dumb go get me someone else it’s yeah they they insult our intelligence daily but hey it’s what we signed up for I guess I I love
