SHOOTAROUND SOUND: MAGIC VS. CAVALIERS | COACH MOSE, PAOLO BANCHERO & JONATHAN ISAAC

Gary Harris and is he likely to play well he went through walk through he’s going to go through a shooting slot so he’ll be he’ll still be more of a game time decision in a situ in a situation like this where some of your younger players haven’t played ex extensively in the first five games would you be reluctant uh to play either Caleb or or um well the beauty of our year has been that guys have been out and that guys have stepped up and stepped in so whoever we decide to put out there if Gary is available to go or not those guys will be ready to play what do you thought of the way that Mar just kind of stepped in espe the last two games find some gaps I thought he’s been great I thought he’s been doing a great job of pushing the pace getting downhill uh finding open shooters for you know for open shots so I think he’s done a really good job and defensively just being able to put pressure on guys uh using his length and his size uh add to to his advantage the day the day has come everybody knows what’s on the line what were your last instructions be more of us be who we’ve been understanding the the what guys are capable of doing knowing we’ve been in these moments before uh like we said before before this series even started we had about three game sevens so our ability to recognize the importance and the magnitude of the game uh and and embrace it and enjoy it and and know exactly how we’re capable of playing down the stretch of that of game five as great as Pao 39 points it’s a lot of points uh could the team have benefited from a little bit more ball movement in the fourth quarter to try and get the defense moving and try and create some additionals well I always think there’s a different balance of how you look at the game and what he’s creating and you talk about some of the body and ball movement they did a great job of denying him if he would have gotten the ball back so I think him having the basketball in his hands and making a play is you know a lot of the directions that we’re going to go if you look at them and you talk about body and ball movement they did the exact same thing they put the ball in Donovan Mitchell’s hands and to go make a play so I think in situations like this is what you’re you’re relying on is that your guys that you you’ve gone to to battle with that they they make the right play at the right time you talk about team being in situations like this before and not giving you I’m curious and what have you think similarities in their approaching the lead up to this game that reminds you kind of how they handle well just there’s no wavering in the way in which they approach the game there’s no wavering of of any doubt I think the guys understand what they’re capable of doing how they know they need to play what they can adjust to from last game and moving forward with that so their beliefs beliefs in what they’ve done and how hard they work to get to this point to put themselves in this position and this great opportunity how never well it’s it’s why the group is so special um we’ve said it over and over again it’s a special group because of what they do believe that they believe in each other they believe in the work that theyve put in and they they believe and they know exactly how capable they are to accomplish how much of today everything going on invol how much today about kind of kind you have to I mean you don’t want to look back and say you didn’t enjoy this moment that you didn’t embrace the moment of of a game six with the opportunity to be push to a game seven but all we’re focused on is game six right now and that’s what that’s what you have to know in these games you you give your best in the moment that you’re in not not last game not the game coming up it’s this game right now your team the game seven if we defend the three point line get back in transition rebound the basketball you know and take care of the basketball in playoff situation particularly potential uh elimination game do you play extra emphasis on yourself to try to be as Loose as you usually are like in a regular season game well I mean there’s obviously the magnitude of the game is is more so but you want to be the same cuz you can’t ask your your guys and your team to be approach the game the same way if I’m not and I think that’s so important that they you know I want them to feel that it is an important game but we got here by being ourselves and that’s what we have to continue to do talk so much about PA about I think his ability to you know sit down and guard some switches understanding where the tags are coming from his weak side low position him understanding those pieces of the game he’s really making a concerted effort effort to make sure he’s in the right position at the right time and then just his ability to contest shots with his length and his size and then again continuing to rebound the basketball been in Cleveland oh yeah I think we just got to come out uh we got to execute think we got to feed off the energy of our fans and um you know I think in terms of game plan I think you know we got to guard the three-point line a little better than we did last game and uh also I think um clean up some of those 50/50 BS and opportunities that we missed in the uh last game speaking of the fans just talk about the energy you get when you’re playing at home and what it does for you your team and the the way you guys play off that yeah uh it means a lot and it helps a lot um just being you know backed up by the fans at home you know every bucket every play you make every stop you get you know the fans are going to let you know and they’re going to show the energy so that just lifts you up as a player um as a team and uh it kind of makes you forget you know if you’re tired or whatever else you think you’re dealing with I think the fans kind of help you forget about all that how when you draw back on the experiences of the season so far gu what giv you the confidence this team can handle and embrace a moment where the stakes are the highest they’ve ever made yeah uh you know it’s it’s the first time for us but I don’t think it’s very surprising I think you know we got a lot of guys that are winners have winning in their DNA uh have won in the past you know whether it was in college high school or with their other teams before this uh I think you know guys are buil for this moment so I think we’re going to go out there and show it mentally how do you work through maybe the pressure that comes along with it to Ure that it’s motivating and not over uh yeah I mean you know uh I don’t think I think if you look at it as being overwhelming you you’re just not ready for it um so I don’t think anyone here is overwhelmed by this I think this is what we all worked for it’s what we all wanted and we’re excited to go out here and compat how much of the message is to for a game to just be yourself uh I think that’s pretty much the whole message right there you know you don’t want to you know just cuz it’s an elimination game or whatever it is you know you don’t want to go out there and do anything that you haven’t been doing or try and you know be someone you’re not I think everyone is just going to go out there and just give your maximum effort and and focus I think that’s the biggest thing you know as far as what you go out there and do you should keep it the same but just make sure you have uh you know maximum effort maximum Focus I know how seriously you take all of this but what have you enjoyed most of about the playoffs so far and your involvement in it um I would just say the the atmosphere um I would say the play style is a lot different in the regular season um it’s more I think to my liking uh more physical uh slower Pace you know you’re not seeing teams go out there and score 150 under 40 points you know I think you’re lucky to score even 110 so I think that’s more uh my style um and I think it fits our team better how much more mindful do you have to be taking care of the basketball tonight you know sometimes some of your turnovers are you might think you have a shot and you find yourself in that air you have to look around throw the ball away or much more mindful be taken care of uh I think yeah you got to take care of the ball for sure uh you know I think for me just being being aggressive and uh when I have a shot just taking it I think there was one or two plays in the last game where I passed up a shot so just you know don’t pass up any looks and take the take what the defense good me how in control of your game are you right now comforable yeah I think I’ve gotten more comfortable the series went on um I think they’ve thrown different looks at me trying to you know throw me off Rhythm and stuff like that but um you know I think I’m pretty comfortable with just getting to my spots and like I said just taking what they give me you know obviously they don’t want me to you know have a presence at The Rim so I’m trying to you know make them pay with mid-range or threes and just keeping them honest from from out there cuz I know those shot those are shots I’m going have to take and make you know to to help us win you mentioned that that winning guys have been a final four j a final four releva championship game I know it’s totally different experiences but can you draw in those types of things like winning at that high stage yeah I mean winning winning travels and winnings Universal so uh whether it’s the NBA or FBA or or back in college you know there’s winning qualities that you have to have to to get to you know you know those points and like I said I think there’s a lot of guys on this team um that have you know been major major parts and major pieces on winning you know high level winning teams um and so like you said Mo and fr World Champs you know final fours and stuff like that um it’s not the playoffs but those are very very high stake environments that we’ve experienced and played in so you just got to translate those same winning qualities over to over to this team what has Gary brought defensively to this series uh what he always brings you know picking up 94 um making it hard on the opposing back court I think he just brings a unique blend of like um strength as a guard but also quickness um hand speed and all that stuff you know he’s a season vet so he’s guarded you know the best of the best and some of the guys that were at the top of their game in their primes you know a couple years ago he’s guarded all of them so he just has that experience and uh he brings it every night I think just really just continue to play our game it was a tough game out there close game I think our defense first and foremost and limit their three-pointers how much fun I know how seriously you take this yeah and your team but what’s been the most fun part of this first round so far uh definitely the battle but just being able to experience it like to be playing at this point in the season is not something that you can take for granted it’s a blessing and uh uh We’ve treated it that way we played really hard tried to focus in as much as we can and so we want to take this thing to seven so we’re ready to play talk about the experience in the battle but you’ve been there and playing at home just describe the feelings that you guys have when you are playing at home and how much you guys feed off of the inter energ of this Arena and what they did for you guys yeah I mean it’s it’s such an emotional game you know just the back and forth going to their place hearing their crowd coming back them here in our crowd uh it’s a huge part of the game it’s it’s probably why each team is one at home a big part of it and so we want to continue to that Trend how much is a game like tonight with all the stakes and how much is it about just being yourself being being yourself as a team being yourself as yeah I think I think all of it you know it’s it’s the team that’s going to you know be relaxed the most and just play their game and uh be able to execute and uh be ready to play many of the team haven’t been in a moment like this where the states are the highest they’ve ever been I guess how do you mentally work through the pressure that comes along so doesn’t overwhelm and motivate yeah I mean take last game you know that that was a high stakes high pressure game for us and to me we showed up and we were right there down the stretch and you know make a few more plays we win the game so I don’t think this game is necessarily any different in terms of pressure or anything I think we’re ready to play we’ve shown that we can compete at a high level in tough games back the season I guess what gives you the confidence that this group will show up we’ve done it time and time again you know we we did it against Milwaukee at home um we’ done it you know to be down 02 and come here and get two games that speaks to us being ready to play and not allowing ourselves to drown in the theatrics and the pressure and what everybody else is saying so I think it’ll be the same same K toight it’s not it’s not usual when someone 610 or 7 ft is guarding Darius Garland or point guard his size his fast what are your greatest assets that enable you to do so so effectively uh I think just just the willing to take the challenge you know just that that mindset of you know if that’s who I’m guarding is who I’m guarding I’m trying my best to limit him as much as possible um try to use my strengths you know and and against his and see what happens so I think just first and foremost the mindset to give it everything that I have and um not allow myself to be a liability on defense is is what I take PR of you’ve obviously kind of played all over for this this series you know playing some Center early on now playing some guard how do you like how do you mentally prepared how do you kind of adjust to the different different types of players that you’re buing are so they’re so different in the series yeah I think the the basic principles are the same um and then it’s just really just their what their game you know calls for if it’s Garland if it’s Mitchell if it’s a big if it’s Moy um just trying to you know play to to their weaknesses really and try my best to use my length to to limit them and and really I just play I’m not I’m not necessarily thinking about like one guy I’m guarding if I switch on to somebody else I’m just going to guard it as best as I can and and see what happens

  1. No matter what happens in this series, the future is bright here in Orlando. The only way is up going forward. GO MAGIC!!!!

  2. I gotta say I'm proud of our guys man!! This young team has exceeded expectations in every way and we have been a tough team to beat this year even without a legit PG and lots of injuries.

  3. Shoot around would sound better with Matt McClung on the floor. It's a shame that this phenom is being black balled from the NBA. I guess ROY and scoring champ isn't good enough. What a bunch of fools on the Magic top brass.
