  1. If they do trade for the no1 pick. They can still draft Castle’s teammate Tristan Newton in the second round a true PG who wasn’t too shabby himself. And Ryan Dunn. The Spurs would have the best defensive team on the planet with Wemby, Sarr, and Dunn, add Vassell and Newton to that and you have a beast of a team

  2. Yeah, I was thinking if the Spurs are tanking again take Topic and stash him away like the Thunder did Holmgren, but if reports are even close to accurate the Spurs are not thinking that way. Sucks for the young man, but seems unlikely he is going to be drafted in the lottery. I wonder if he will back out if possible and try again next year. Curious thought though, what if he is still on the board in the second round? Would you take a flier on him being able to recover and play in '26 or late '25?

  3. I think optimally the Spurs can move Sochan to the 3 once his shots are falling better. If we do that and get a Risacher or Salaun around for shooting off the PF position there will be a ton of balance in the offense. I expect a Tre/Devin/Castle/Sochan/Wemby starting five, but hopefully Sochan becomes more of a SF this year than a PF. That would make the Spurs much better, and would allow Mamu to share the floor with Wemby/Sochan further as our main backup PF (he just needs 20 minutes a game not much)

Granted I am still upset we didn't go after Naz Reid before he signed his small deal in Wolves

  4. I see zero reason for the Spurs to go for Topic, who seems like a Giddey copy in my mind, over Castle who will help improve our defense dramatically. The plan needs to be get defenders around wemby that can be big and cause turnovers. We already have Devin/Sochan as long defenders, adding Castle to those two and Wemby would make the Spurs a top defensive team within 2 years. Castle is versatile enough to move positions from 1-3, so if he doesn't develop enough playmaking or shooting you can still use him. If Topic shot doesn't develop he's literally Giddey. At worst Castle can be Herb Jones, at best he's Jrue Holiday. That's much better than betting on Topic to suddenly be Luka

  5. Regarding Rob vs Topic at 8 : I'd take Rob if we drafted a PG at 4, Topic otherwise, because in my mind Rob will never be our starting PG long term, more of an explosive combo guard from the bench. But anyway if we drafted a PG at 4 then there is so much choice at 8 that it will never be between those two only.

  6. If I were the Spurs manager, I would trade the 4th and 8th pick to get Sarr as the first pick. Why? Because you don't often find a 7'1" athletic big man available in the draft. Risascher is just a wing, and there are already many elite stretch forwards in the league.
