Marcus Thompson’s word carries a lot of weight in Warriorsland the way I see it…

Grayson Allen got 70m for four years.

Some team will absolutely offer Klay a lot of money..probably too much.

It’s really just up to him if he wants to go out with his guys or get paid.

  3. Slater a week ago:

    > Thompson wants to win. Don’t expect him to chase the largest possible offer from the Detroit Pistons or Charlotte Hornets, even if that’s the correct financial or leverage move.

  4. If you listen to the rest of the convo, they make it sound a bit more up for debate. Also I think it’s more informed speculation by MT rather than reporting, but I wouldn’t be surprised if klays gone at this point

If money is the #1 driving factor for Klay, he should pursue whomever is willing to pay him the most. He’s been blessed with a gift and he should feel free to maximize it to the fullest extent.

I am personally a fan of Klay and the Dubs. I want to see both do well. That doesn’t necessarily mean he has to remain in Golden State.

I’ll be sad for a split second but it’s the nature of NBA-ball. Next man up.

That’s honestly probably best for all parties and I’m ok with it. My personal priority is getting Steph in a position to win his 5th ring. Paying Klay 40 million means that’s not happening.

He turned down a two year, $48M extension. Wonder how much he’s looking for, or if he cares more about the number of years.

Had definite rough spots throughout the season, but he honestly wasn’t that bad. Something around that 24M/yr deal is honestly reasonable, but I don’t know if the Dubs would go much higher. If some team actually waives $30M/yr around, gotta think he’s gone.

Could see the Dubs matching up to maybe $27M/yr… but even that’s questionable. Is he really more valuable than Dray? Maybe if Dray keeps doing dumb shit and isn’t actually available, but when both were on the court last year, Draymond was by far the better player, and he’s in year two of a 4/100. Guess Klay’s game should realistically age better, just need him to stop taking those tough moving 2s and 3s (the fall-away jumpers, over the backboard when he’s fading out of bounds… those hurt my soul).

Is it the bench role? If some team like the Magic says “hey, you’ll be the starting SG, and here’s a bunch of money” that may be hard for him to turn down. OKC and Philly also have a good bit of cap available, if they strike out on other moves maybe they just kick him a bunch of short term money?

Could he just be seeking more years? 3yrs to tie his contract to Draymond? Could do a 2+1 with an option in year 3 (preferably team), so he’s tied to all of Steph/Dray/Kerr? Idk.

It’d suck to see Klay go, but if he isn’t budging on the money (…don’t blame him, but he’s also been well compensated by the org), a breakup seems likely.

I think the Spurs are a sleeper destination. Defense won’t be much of an issue with Wemby and they legit could make the playoff next season depending on the other pieces they acquire. He would easily be their best shooter and there’s the Pop-Kerr ties.

How much is Marcus Thompson really correct in his assessments? I genuinely would like to know…

There’s alot good shooters in the league. Can’t overpay for nostalgia for a dude who is a “does one thing well” player at this point and is a 34 yrs old in clear decline.

I’ll thank Klay for everything and applaud MDJ if he doesn’t bend to the will of a fanbase that is more interested in idealism than realism.

If Klay returns his presence on the roster will be the most complex issue the team has to deal with. They already delt with it this year and it didn’t go well.

Yup the Dubs will have to find more shooting… but they will. The time for change is now and Klay is the first domino of a few we’ll see this year imo.

  11. I was talking with my friend from my pick-up game that is a Spurs fan about which free-agents they might target to put around Wemby, or if they should go all-in with their two top 10 draft picks. Klay could be a good addition, and they have the cap room probably.

  12. People are also overlooking personal income tax 24m in cali is a lot less than 30m in Orlando or Texas

  13. Seems like he’s speculating about what he thinks might happen… basically just a guess

Any cap specialists know if we can pull a S&T like we did with KD? Would we need to waive CP3 first?

Could be Klay’s parting gift to the franchise.

  15. LooneyTunes-

Klay is so petty. Draymond too. Lacob too. Kerr in his own ways… Steph is really the one who held this whole thing together and nobody feels like they owe it to him to help him win more championships. It’s a joke

  16. imminentjogger5

what? It’ll look really good to the fans if he comes back on a team friendly deal and retires as a Warrior

  17. warriors2021

Why the hell was Klay pissed with the org at the end when he literally turned down $48 million and played like trash 2 postseasons in a row?! GTFO.
