MAJOR Trade Incoming? – Thunder Targeting ELITE Bench Upgrade | Thunder News

the Oklahoma City Thunder are in a win now mode and they’re looking to add players either to their bench and also potentially the starting lineup to help them Reach the end goal of winning the 2025 NBA championship but they have to do that in uh free agency And Trades this off season and there are some big news and big rumors that are coming out that the Thunder could be adding a premier point guard to the bench this off season what up it’s Bry Akens with another Thunder digest video for you guys today before we get into all this though I want to take a moment and say if you guys find yourself coming back on a regular basis and you enjoy the content on this channel you want to stay up to date with Daily okom City Thunder news go ahead hit the Subscribe button it’s the best way to stay up to date when a new video drops on the channel and it’s the best way to support the channel that out of the way we can go ahead and get into the video and talk about this guy when I saw an article just yesterday about how the Thunder could potentially trade with the Utah Jazz and it got me thinking why not knock out two birds with one Stones here I’ll talk about that in a you know l bit of this video however there is saying that the Thunder could explore options to trade for Utah’s point guard Colin ston and I have been high on seon ever since he was drafted I think he can be a top 10 guard in the league if he keeps on putting in the work kind of on par with dearon Fox I feel like they can be very similar to each other and I think it’d be a great addition to this team yes we have a ton of guards already on this team however when I was reading the article it made one jarring point where I was like okay they have a point why we would trade and add another guard on this team and realistically if we trade for ston we’re also giving up a guard on our team as well they’re going to want to guard in for return along with some picks so it just had me thinking a little bit I think this could actually work out and make us better I think we get an upgrade at and on the bench and also for the guard that we might potentially be giving up now the trade package I put together you know it could not it could be something else but I am going to go ahead and bring in the article from Sports Illustrated to talk about what they were saying in here as I went ahead pulled it up here we’re going to go ahead break it down piece by piece here giving my you know two cents on the whole topic but Oklahoma City has a big offseason on the horizon there’s plenty of options and many different directions that Thunder could go the good thing is that there doesn’t seem to be a negative option the team is clearly not far off after a widely successful season and there’s no major make or break moves that need to happen at this point the core feels set Shay GIS Alexander Jaylen Williams and Chad hren have formed a formidable Trio and the group will only get better with time Williams and hogr each have another level to their game and being on a young developmentally focused team like the Thunder should fast trck the progression now it’s all about filling the holes I like how they said that there it’s all about filling the holes and getting the best guy next you know to kind of help this team succeed especially in the long-term endgame that’s what it’s about we’re just trying to find out you know who are these guys that can feel this one little spot that we’re struggling in one or two little spots that we struggle in we’re not great at that can really Propel us to being a championship winning team and this is when they start talking about Colin sex in a little bit this is when they start talking about him and this is the article here this is what we’re really going to focus on in it the obvious addition would be front Court death whether that comes in the form of a starting forward or a backup center but the other option that’s fly under the radar is a self-creating six-man Off the Bench and a backup point guard to handle the ball Utah Jazz guard Colin seon would give Oklahoma City’s bench added Firepower and seems like a good fit on paper after a career year in Utah his price tag could be steep but it might be worth it for this young Thunder Squad Oklahoma City already has a lineup full of guards so it’s easy to assume the position might not be in need but in the playoffs it hurt the Thunder not having another Creator when Williams was struggling against the mavick so much pressure fell on his shoulders a guil Alexander adding a playmaker like seon would give the Thunder another look and be a luxury Off the Bench he going to look at the stats but I already have it pulled up uh and you know in later in the video but this also said he played 26 minutes a game and came off the bench in 27 games so he has experience coming off the bench he has experience with multiple roles in his career so that is a good sign showing if he came here and played on the bench it’s not like you know he’s never come off the bench before in Utah he played about a third of the season coming off the bench for them so clearly he has experience there and I think it would be a great addition to the team I think I think it would be fantastic for us to add ston it does give us a premier six-man it kind of reminds me of when we had Dennis shuder uh on the Thunder a few years back how he was one of the top six men in the league that’s what it reminds me of having shuder back on the bench that’s kind of the comparison I’m gaining from this and I think it really would project uh you know Propel us to another step having three great guards coming Off the Bench in uh Isaiah Joe Colin ston and case walles who is a great defender Aaron Wiggins are forward and then you have Jay will coming off the bench or even if you want to sign a center if we have the cap space still in free agency be a backup center you can CU Jay will might be included in one of those packages but I do know if we do this we are going to be deep no matter what now let’s go ahead and finish the article Le they had to say section would be a good compliment to guil just Alexander and Williams too if the three need to play together and close lineups on some nights until case Wallace can develop into an on ball point guard the Thunder needs another uh ball handling option Off the Bench it would likely take more than a first round pick but it would be worth it for the Thunder stagging a player of se’s caliber for a few Oklahoma City’s treasure chest of draft picks make sense and would make the Thunder better so clearly it will make us better adding ston to your team even if it’s Off the Bench like he’d be coming off the bench for a lot of teams considering the point guard role is already filled with a bunch of teams with either young developing guys or guys that have already proven themselves are that are better than seon at the one having sexon Off the Bench is huge for us it is it talks about that glaring option that we don’t really have a ball handler coming off the bench and we got we have guys that handle the ball well but not to seon’s level and also it helps just to kind of have this floor General coming in off the bench that has played in starting roles that has played for other good squads before it helps to have that experience Off the Bench for us now when you’re looking at the stats too he kind of fills the boxes last year in Utah he had 19 points a game 2.6 rebounds five assists uh you know barely you know like we’re not going to wor about his blocks there he’s not really you know shot blocker uh almost to steal a gain two turnovers a game two fouls a game 48% from the field and almost 40% from behind the arc right there right at 39 he’s 6’3 25 years old so he’s still young he still can grow quite a bit um in experience of course and also just kind of Step Up his game a little bit take it to the next level just because how young he is he’s still developing he hasn’t quite reached his prime here are some things that kind of stood out to me 43% on Corner 3 that is huge that is huge for us we can set screens down low for him with that second Squad where he goes right around our big man down low sets the screen goes out to the corner uh catch and shoot three ball there 80% of his threes are assisted that’s nice to see and then 31 % of all shots are threes so he shoots the three ball really well or at least he did last season he shoots that three ball well and that could definitely help us out quite a bit however just one little thing one little thing I have about it I don’t know if he would be this guy that’d be catching and shooting Off the Bench I don’t know cuz he’s he’s going to be our ball handler now maybe off ball he can move a little bit well it just matters it just comes down to our Aaron Wiggins and Isaiah Joe are top scorers in that second string going to be willing to kick it out there or they going to keep shooting shots that they were told to shoot last season because they’re great Shooters I’m not saying that they aren’t and I don’t want Aaron Wiggins Isaiah Joe to stop shooting the looks that they get stop taking those it’s just a matter of is sexin going to get frustrated with if he comes to this thunder Squad and doesn’t get the touches and shots that he you know was expecting to get that’s the only thing that comes to mind for me when we do if we do trade for ston how well would he mesh into the second string Squad and I think he can mesh well because it’s a young team everyone’s learning everyone’s still trying to you know figure out what their exact role is some have already figured it out more than others I think this second string it’s a bunch of guys that kind of know what they are going to be in the league they’re just trying to refine it or add another skill set to what they are are already capable of Kon Wallace is going to be a great defender in the league Aaron Wiggins Isaiah Joe are going to be top tier scoring options Off the Bench Colin seon is going to be I truly believe this he can be a top 10 point guard in the league if you guys don’t believe he already is however another glaring option at this how how are we even able to get seon how what does a package have to look like well it talks about in the article a little bit how Okay uh it’s going to take more than just a first round pick I think it would take a player uh either a forward or another one of our guards and then also two first round picks in a second round pick for seon cuz he did have a great year this season however I do think we can package him together I think we can pack package him together with Lori marinan I think we can I think we can because look at his contract here first off his contract is not bad it’s it’s not a bad contract at all uh 18 million it’s been going up every single year next year it’ be 18 mil then last year it’ll be 19 million and so his contract expires right as soon as as Chad and Jay finish their rookie contracts so it gives us cap space for them of course which is nice then you look into the second thing here this is a proposed trade I had how we can also get Lorie marinan in this deal so first you’re going to notice Josh giddy is going to be traded uh Kenrick Williams and Gordon Hayward for a sign in trade I feel like Utah would like the veteran leadership there and give me starter to help kind of push their rebuild in the right direction and give them veteran leadership cuz they don’t really have a ton of that right now in Utah so I feel like they’d be willing to do that on a friendly deal of uh threeyear $45 million 15 mil per year then these are the picks that are going we’re going to have to be given up we’re going to have to give up our first round pick this year I feel like because they’re going to be rebuilding for two years so they’re going want to take one of these projects at the 12th overall pick that they can develop either in the g- league or league for about two years and then our 2025 first- round pick 2026 first round pick 2026 second round pick from Golden State and a 2027 first round pick from Denver for Colin ston and Lorie marinin this ended up it said it would work out and that everything lines up and that Utah would take this deal because there’s four first round picks just in that trade and they’re getting three players in return for two um one guy that’s still young Kendrick Williams who’s a solid bench option and Gordon Hayward who can really if he is in the right spot if he’s in on the right you kind of play style he can be very good he can be I think that’s the best option for us to kind to trade for both of them I know I’m going on a little bit now this is a longer video than usual I just think if we’re trading for seon you might as well see if you can package Lori Markin it in that because that fixes both problems that we have right now for next season we need more size at the four Lori solves that and then we need a little bit more playmaking Off the Bench Colin sexon solves that and he can also steps into a starting role if any of our guys go down with injury for some reason cuz he has a good good amount of experience starting I think that like after reading that article and putting together that little trade package there that I had in my mind I feel like that is the best option that is the best thing that we can do this offseason I feel like that instantly makes us the favorites to win the championship I might be OV exaggerating a little bit there little bias because how good the Celtics are and how good they will be for years to come I truly believe if we do that the Celtics could be the only team that could potentially stop us but I’m interest what you guys think do you guys think you to be able to you know be willing to package luran a trade for col section as well or is it going to be one of those things where like you can have one guy but you can’t have the other and who would you prefer us trying to trade for and let me know your packages as well down there for a trade package for both of them but that’s all I got for this video I’ll see you guys in the next one

The OKC Thunder know they need to add size, but they also need a playmaker and floor general off the bench. Bryson Akins covers how a potential Collin Sexton trade could happen, and what that trade would look like.

  1. I think sexton is a need because he is that 6th man we are missing now saying Wallace and Joe aren’t great but they aren’t fit to be a 6th man

  2. Lol OKC aint going for Sexton. You cant play Sexton and Shai on the floor at the same time which means if he was to come off the bench he gets 15 mins and as soon as Shais back on you pull him off. Biggest thing okc was missing was a bigger stronger better rebounder at the 4 who can hit 3s. The Patrick Williams talk makes more sense.

  3. The Jazz aren't moving Lauri. The Jazz are willing to move Sexton, Clarkson and Collins. Honestly Clarkson is a better fit for what OKC needs. A former 6th man of the year that creates his own shot and the Jazz have been trying to move for awhile.
