What’s the reasoning behind this and were there any other rookies that were left off?

Here we go, the girl who averages 6 turnovers and has 38-33 splits on the 2nd worst team in the league wasn’t considered a top 12 player, now we’ll hear “women’s greatest enemy are women” for the next 5 weeks

She’s probably not top 12 in the league yet so not that crazy. Would have made sense to blood her in for future tournaments though.
JoJonesy
are any of the people whining about this actually *looking* at her WNBA stats? she’s obviously talented but she’s a friggin’ rookie, this isn’t that complicated
Gristle__McThornbody
I thought Griner was jailed in Russia. Good for her.

It needs to be noted that Clark and Jones are alternates.
It’s a logical decision. Clark is really good, but isn’t WNBA elite yet. Almost every college superstar has struggled in their rookie WNBA season because of how good the league is.
Clark will replace Taurasi on the team after these Olympics.

I mean duh, the league is stacked lol
yooston
i like how this dropped after she put up 30/8/6 with 7 made threes
xenoz2020
I fact checked just in case we had another Frauds Charania special, but it’s true. this is good for Clark though so she can get some rest and use it for motivation.

I’m sure NBC is thrilled that Caitlin Clark was left off the team because “she wasn’t good enough”…I’m sure whatever 12th woman that was selected on the team is worth the ratings drop…

She could probably use the rest

Why doesn’t this stuff go on the WNBA subreddit? We don’t post eurobasket news here?

I’ve never heard more about the WNBA in my life than I have since Clark got drafted. She deserves a spot on the Olympic squad just for that

Even if she was killing it in the WNBA it seems like she needs a break. I mean she already just played a full college season and jumped straight into the WNBA regular season with basically no break. Now people expect her to go straight into playing Olympic Games too?? Women’s basketball schedule is wild. Give her a break, sheesh.

Taurasi shouldnt be on the team. 6 is ridiculous. I said what I said.
Miss me with the rookie bullshit.

While it feels like a snub(kinda?), the team is still absolutely stacked without her. It’s not that surprising that she’s not on it given that she is a rookie who, while really, really good so far, has had some growing pains still, like pretty much every WNBA rookie deals with since the talent quality on rosters in the WNBA is so much higher than college ball and the NBA even. Fewer teams leads to deeper and better rosters from top to bottom on average.
Edit: Fixed a typo.

This has nothing to do with the NBA

The mean girls won 🤦♂️

This the Olympics. The world stage where they ain’t lost in ages. You think they wanna risk that for Caitlin Clark? Yea she’s incredibly special but what Olympic coach has the confidence in her rn to compete over the other girls
Overall_Implement326
Why are there people in here talking about how popular she is when this is the Olympics team? It’s not a meaningless all-star game that is only there to make a league money.
Twenty_Seven
I mean… she needs a fucking break. All of those rookies do. They went from tourney to draft to WNBA in the span of a month.

I think the fact she hasnt had time off since the start of her senior year at Iowa, she is going to be dead tired by the olympics.

I don’t think this is the hit/snub that people think it is.

I had no clue Women even had Basketball Tournaments at the Olympics.

Perhaps when nobody is really reporting is that she’s not a very likable person in a league where mostly there’s a bunch of black girls when you’re the one white girl that everybody hates you’re not gonna be on the team like that’s just common sense
