Hour 2: What is Trending | Eddie Sefko talks Mavericks | Question of the Day
it’s time to get your morning started with the news you need to know news update news update this is what’s trending with DJ and PK # NBA T has the re floats it out to Pritchard on the left wing Pritchard shovel back to porzingis Happ a trail three got [Applause] it that’s some good stuff here man 5129 Boston by 22 clean strip of Luka flies in for the right hand slam and the Celtics lead game one by 24 from day one I came here and I said like I’ll do whatever it takes to help this team win right and I think it was um this situation you know it made sense and uh and I didn’t care I didn’t care uh I knew I could prepare to come off the bench which is something different for me um and that’s what I did and stepped into that role and and embraced it and and uh and had a good game I think I said few years ago collective bargaining agreement New Media deals then we would turn to expansion so we got part one done clearly um media deals it’s been a long process it’s ongoing and we hope to wrap it up the relative near term and then we will turn to expansion but by turning to expansion it doesn’t mean that we’re going to announce that now we’re ready to add teams it means that there’ll be a committee of MBA Governors that will focus on it there’s clearly markets out there that are very interested and will run through a process there’s Adam Silver on potential NBA expansion highlights from Finals game one with of course christs porzingis being the biggest Story the second biggest Story the third biggest story Off the Bench into the game to dominate and absolutely the change the flow of everything it was a one two-point game they’re going back and forth 13- 12 17 to 15 and then the 7′ 4 in tall Superman comes in and starts hitting mid-range jumpers old school beating a guy off the dribble for a dunk hitting a deep three that would have made Steph Curry proud and all the momentum in the building went to Boston we were talking earlier this week had a couple people on and pretty much everyone came on agreed there’s a couple ways this goes one the Celtics with Superior depth take advantage of dry spells from Dallas and pull away or Dallas hangs around hangs around and they got the two best closers and if the game’s close late the last 5 minutes Dallas wins Dallas got it down to eight in the third quarter after trailing by 29 but by the time the fourth quarter we got the second half of the fourth quarter there the benches were cleared the stars were sitting down with towels around their shoulders and it was over Boston with the better depth six guys in double finger fingers porzingis having a game is he going to have four games like that probably not but we expect more out of Tatum and brown I thought Tatum really just took a back seat thought it was a wise move I know stars get heat for that but and don’t demand your turn on the ball bingus has it going so he ends up with 16 Points 11 boards five assists did have the six turnovers that wasn’t so good didn’t shoot it great didn’t matter Boston wins comfortably I expect White’s going to have a game I expect holiday will have a game that’s the path for Boston to win and then Tatum and brown do their thing at some point those guys are both going to go for 30 but they only took 28 shots between them last night so there’s no way they were both going for 30 all Celtics almost all the time there was a nice run for Dallas there in the third quarter but man when you’re up by 29 are you really G to be focused and on point the whole time that oiche there’s three runs in an in an NBA game and if you have two of them you win that proved true for Boston because when the league got to eight they pushed it back to 16 in a Flash at the end of that quarter I did love Jason kid in the locker room after the game Talking to the team they always run that hey we won the third quarter we won the fourth quarter hey I heard that from a Jazz coach Once Upon a Time this past season it’s a little deep in the coaching manual but it’s there you got to get back yeah it’s after page 100 you got to get to the back there to find that but uh anything you can do to change you guys’ mentality and if people scoff or if they laugh or things nothing hey if it resonates with uh a couple of guys in the moment yeah we did have a stretch we played with them whatever it takes Michael Jordan lied to himself about somebody we never heard of degrading his basketball ability in some back tunnel in Charlotte what what what that’s more laughable than this that worked uh this could work I wish game two Sunday and see if it works for Dallas yeah we were really good there in the third quarter we can get these guys maybe their shots will go in early shots that we talked about donic and how do you match up with donic they do have the size to match up with Kyrie Irving and he had a bad game shooting the ball don’t expect four straight of that so Dallas got to figure way to turn it around Boston is now 13- two in the postseason this year and the only two they lost were game twos at home so Dallas needs to go get [Music] one and as far as Adam Silver exploring expansion last expansion was 20 years ago Charlotte had moved to New Orleans and they went back in put a team in Charlotte and now you get a lot more money if you’re an owner for raising I’m sorry a governor if you’re a governor for raising your hand and voting yes on expansion there’s 30 teams so if you raise your hand and a team costs 300 million everyone gets 10 million if it costs three billion which is probably now we’re getting a little closer to the neighborhood everybody gets a 100 million I love Adam Silver where the players going to come from I don’t know there’s a 13-year-old in Slovakia or Croatia and they’re going to amuse us all they’re going to entertain us somebody in ltia somebody in Chicago there’s players out there there are and yeah there’s there’s plenty of players you know in the Australian leagues and the European leagues that can come over and not necessarily Australia absolutely can have another austr these stars but come in and be solid players in the NBA I think sure maybe the the star power would get diluted a little bit but I think resources to to have a solid pool of players that’s not going to be a problem and maybe Minnesota is the expansion City because if you saw the stories about A-Rod and his group that wanted to buy the Timberwolves and then they didn’t have the money but they’re saying they did have the money and it was some process thing to make a lawyer’s head spin I don’t understand it nor do I want to understand it but in any case if the mediator rules or whatever that they get the team they want to move to Vegas well and then it’s a Charlotte scenario you go you got to go back into Minnesota that’s too big a market and the fans are just be getting jerked around by the NBA just something awful I mean it’s Pro Sports it happens all the time there’s fan bases all of Baltimore can complain Indianapolis can complain excuse me uh Cleveland can complain not indie Indy stole the team Cleveland can complain Houston can complain Seattle can complain we just got go on De St Louis San Diego Oakland Oakland Oakland man Oakland’s got a lot of complaints yeah so somehow Minnesota Vegas and Seattle is what makes sense but the commissioner was thrown out well we want to go back to to Canada and he didn’t say it but one day Europe I don’t know why the NBA doesn’t just do where the NFL is headed and at start the season every team plays two games against another opponent in some country and Minnesota ought to be playing games in France because of goar right and somebody else is going to Australia and somebody else is going to Spain and on Down the Line [Music] they’re crushing the season ticket holders they can just give them 40 that’ll be fine two 20 game half season packages a 40 game package and if you do it at the start of the Season we’re all watching football then anyway and you can give them a week when they come back come back to acclimate I can’t believe the NBA hasn’t done that yet DJ and PK # NFL for half the off season you know you’re you’re trying to have staff meetings at different times during the day and I had every staff meeting I put like at 7:24 or 3:24 or 524 like the number 24 okay to you guys it means nothing that’s how many years it’s been since the organizations’s won a playoff game we are going to hear about that come playoff time you think to me you do that to empower guys to know what’s coming to understand it to not run from it because if you’re going to achieve success where people are predicting failure you’re going to have have to go above and [Music] beyond that is the Corky coach of the Miami Dolphins Mike McDaniel I do agree with this premise that they are going to hear about it come playoff time it’s been 24 years since they won a playoff game and I do agree with me it head on put it out there make it a goal get guys a little ticked off not that anyone is responsible I mean the whole roster and coaching staff and ownership has changed over how many times in 24 years so that’s not on anybody but certainly they are going to hear it cuz those are the jerseys they’re wearing assuming they get to the playoffs and they have to to run out there and it’s the longest streak in the NFL no fan base has gone longer without a postseason win but I think start meetings in 24 is a little weird but you know what he’s a quirky dude and he’s a head coach so he gets to do it if it motivates you like I don’t that’s my I don’t really care what it is like it can be super quirky but if it if it motivates you as a coach and if it motivates the players it works then by all means I’m a grownup I want to win a playoff game we don’t need meetings at 24 come on man I want to and I appreciate you addressing the issue it’s an issue they’re paid to win and and they’re certainly paid to win in the postseason and it’s not only the longest streak there’s only two teams within even a decade of them nobody goes that long I mean teams that suck don’t go that long I’m looking at you New York Jets we all know the Jets have a tortured history and a tortured fan base but they won a playoff game 13 years ago the Bears won a playoff game 13 years ago the only two fan bases that have struggled anywhere near as long as this with this particular issue winning a single playoff game is the Raiders at 21 and the commanders at 18 years I’m 24 I was born in May of 2000 so their last playoff win was before I was born ouch that’s a big old ouch and I’m sure they have players on the roster who are 24 or younger than 24 right so that streak is older than some of these kids on the roster oh so there’s only four teams that you haven’t quote unquote seen well I guess there’s five in a in a conference Championship game in the NFL I mean Houston’s never gone it’s 22 years so they weren’t playing the Houston Texans didn’t exist when you were born and they should have been the Oilers and the Titans should have given that back it’s stupid that they killed this awesome brand they ought to be singing love you Blue they should have tapped into that Ridiculous by the NFL the commanders 32 years without going to a title game the Browns and the Dolphins 31 years without going to a title game and the Dallas Cowboys ouch ouch 28 years brutal [Music] Ravens kicker Justin Tucker claims to be bulking up with the NFL’s new kickoff rules I’m going to have to get used to this Tucker noticed in the NFL in the XFL kickers are involved in about 25% of the tackles he wants to make sure he’s prepared for the contract okay you don’t want him hurt CU he’s a very reliable field goal kicker and you don’t want him hurt so sure yeah absolutely why not and I’m it’s going to be weird kickoffs have looked one way my whole life I’ve gone to high school games college games pro games and I know what a kickoff looks like okay they they kicked off from the 40 and then they moved it back to the 35 and now they move it back to the 30 and but it’s basically been the same thing and now all the players are going to be all bunched up as long as it’s exciting the NFL is tweaked with so many rules over the years they usually make the game more entertaining they don’t miss in this stuff very often we’ll see what it looks like see if we can all get used to it Chief’s defensive end BJ Thompson is in stable condition in an area hospital after having a seizure and going into card arrest Thompson’s 25 years old he was taken to the hospital by ambulance from the team’s practice facility Thursday morning Chief sent players home instead of holding their regularly scheduled OTA practice the practices are scheduled for today that is a shocking experience I’ve had that happen a couple times in my life both in high school once with a fellow student once with an adult and that was an immedi anything to do with school and man both of those it just shakes you when you see something like that it just rattles I had to drive home because it was a meeting half an hour away and I had to drive home and I was 16 17 I just gotten my license and the adult who’ had the Caesar had driven a bunch of kids to this meeting too so I had him just all packed into my sweet station wagon what a good ride that thing was and that was super quiet everybody was rattled I mean there’s just barely a word said DJ and PK [Music] # Major League Baseball the one0 swing in a fly Ball Deep right field santand racing back at the wall see you later three run home run Vladimir Guerrero Jr and the Blue Jays jump on top that’s off of second base Otani not being held at First has a big lead pitch to Freddy he drills one deep to right field it is back it is gone a three-run shot for Freddy Freeman and the Dodgers jump all over biley falter here on the top of the first there it is here’s one deep to right back goes the right fielder and that ball is gone Trent Grisham takes his frustrations out on the baseball and the Yankees take a two to one lead oh and that’s got to be great for Grisham great for Grisham great for the Yankees they going on to beat Minnesota 8 to6 but they get the bad news Juan stto out a sore forearm tests on a sore forearm what is wrong with the MVP candidate what is going on nobody knows man the Yankees have it going they got they got pitching they got hitting they got it all they’re rolling last thing they need there’s plenty of time to get healthy on the other hand no amount of health is going to fix what’s going on with Chicago White Socks as they lose their 14th straight game worst record in baseball not even on Pace to get 40 wins this season now I don’t know there’s just something F fascinating about just an awful team just and not even competing they just got lit up by the Red Sox 14-2 I mean just let go of the Rope guys just let go of the Rope and sink in the lake and The Boat Boat will come back and get you later yeah horrible record and then to just have an absolute stinker of a game like that like that was awful for white socks fans the longest win streak right now is uh eight in a row with the Yankees They are tearing it up the only team in Major League Baseball playing 700 ball although the Phillies are uh are right behind them all L be’s lost 3 to2 to the Sugarland Space Cowboys Tony Park’s on the Air Tonight 6:35 DJ and PK Ashby so many things about college basketball have changed including the size of the staffs Kevin young continues to build his coaching staff with the addition of John Lin how many coaches are they gonna hire hey it’s a new era staffs have gotten bigger I’ve got to adapt young says he’s an ex exeptional Player Development coach who’s worked with some of the game’s great players considered one of the top defenders in NCA history two-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year spent the last two years at St Joseph’s had a couple years at Georgia worked with Anthony Edwards when he was in Georgia so he comes in with a rep and you know number one money nil but right behind that guys want to know they’re going to get better guys want to know you can get me to the pros so we keep hearing this over and over everybody who comes in development they’re going to help get better and uh he he spoke for about 10 minutes yesterday which is really unusual for college basketball coaches in the off season but man get your name out there get your brand out there you’re never done recruiting over and over and over especially if you’re recruiting new new places and now yes the media takes it and it’s out out there and anyone can Google it and that’s great cuz you never know where in the world you’re going to need a relationship with somebody and when you start to have a relationship with somebody in Florida or New York or somewhere in Europe or Australia and the next big thing they’re going to Google you and they’re going to find out what’s been out there so you just build up that file just Build It Up plus you got your own media and then you send stuff you want directly to people work it work it work it and Kevin young is working it it’s also leading to a lot of hype and I do wonder how they’ll be able to follow through on the hype but we really won’t know until March because everything else is Prelude to that B has done a lot of cool regular season stuff big wins at Kansas a lot of wins did well in the in the Big 12 you know just look at the Big 12 standings pass the eyeball test people want wins and March it’s back to the Miami Dolphins right and that’s the discussion right like all this hype But ultimately can they perform better this March or next march than they did did this March so Utah State hadn’t had a conference excuse me an NCA tournament win in in 20 years and the UTS are sitting about a a decade and BYU’s last trip to the round of 32 would be when they win Swit 16 with Jimmer in 11 now they won game so they have one games but it’s been in Dayton to get to the round of 64 last time they were in the round of 32 was 2011 13 years so it’s been a minute that’s the Jets like 13 that’s the Jets number too looking to snap that DJ and PK # Utah Utah edman basketball coach Craig Smith announced the addition of Josh iser to a staff as an assistant coach he comes to Salt Lake City after spending the last 17 years at West Virginia various capacities most recently inter term head coach but they get a new staff there and now the youths get some big 12 knowledge so you see some of the logic of making that higher somebody who knows the league knows the players knows the teams as well as you can know them but the current youth staff knows the programs that are coming in Colorado Arizona Arizona State so get somebody in there who knows the Kansas schools and Iowa State and yada yada disappointing for the long time you fans who wanted to see one of their own and see Andre Miller back in that spot but uh it’s going to be Josh eard and head coaches can be given advice but ultimately they get to hire their assistance those are the people that they sink or swim with so he’s going to try to swim with Josh eard that’s what’s trending there are the headlines coming up Eddie sefco riter from abs.com is going to join us to talk NBA Finals that’s next David lock at 8:00 and Jason ch from rale Salt Lake at 825 DJ and PK it’s 975 The Zone when it comes to the biggest moments in Utah Sports history say these guys have seen it all this is DJ and PK DJ and PK on 975 the KSL Sports s [Music] [Music] DJ and PK we’re joined right now by Eddie SEO Rider from mavs.com Eddie good morning how you doing and I gotta say I like your intro music nice thank you I don’t have anything to do with that but Christian will take the compliment the song is older than Christian but what the heck he got it right anyway well you know we can respect kids who who have a little uh sense when comes to the to the uh rock and roll uh music the Dallas Mavericks do they need what’s the pump Me Up song they need right now cuz that that had to be a little bit of a downer going in there and getting hit with all that emotion and Chris porzingis out of his mind in the first half that that uh that was less than an ideal start to the NBA finals yeah but if they had a song right now would be don’t worry be happy because uh it’s uh it’s not uh you know this is going to be a long series and uh yeah they had a really uh lousy start uh they didn’t expect KP to come strutting in like Conor McGregor and and and putting on a a show like he did uh but that you know that’s uh that’s what you run into sometimes and uh and you know it was I don’t want to say it was predictable but the Mavericks have started off poorly in series before twice already this year uh when they got hammered pretty good by Oklahoma City and and the Clippers and as I recall they came back and won the next two games you know the next game in both of those series and and the series obviously so uh no need to panic or anything like that it it was a poor showing uh they did a lot of things wrong uh and and I can just guarantee you that it’ll be a much much better Mavericks team on uh on Sunday than it was last night of all the things that uh bug you would it be uh or that should bug Jason kid because you can probably roll with this matter what but uh would it be the fact that Kyrie Irving struggled to get going would it be the lack of assists and the ball just isn’t moving would it be something else what was the the number one red flag for you well when I looked up at the end of the third quarter and they had five assists uh that was that that’s alarming because that’s just a a good quarter for Luca usually uh so they really uh and give the Celtics some credit they did a lot some things to to kind of uh Force the Mavericks into one-on-one play and and that’s why they can do that and they have two really good finishers uh it’s not they’re better when the ball’s popping uh you know they didn’t get any Corner threes I think they had three for the game and that’s one of their bread and but and Luca took one of them and that’s you know that’s not his shot he just that’s he’s supposed to get the ball to guys in the corner not take shots from the corner so uh and they just there was lot of things that that went haywire and you know that’s uh that’s okay that that as Jason K has said uh it’s okay to fail as long as you you uh you know get your get your head up and and realize what you did wrong and learn from it so um and and and let’s be honest can KP come back and and repeat that sort of a of a uh of a of a performance you know maybe he can maybe he can we’ll see but also remember the Celtics didn’t get you would call a Legendary game out of either Tatum or brown so well Brown was was very good let me take that back and defensively especially so uh we’ll see where it goes but but right now uh just they got to fix the offense make sure they conquer a few things with with the Celtics defense and then uh I I think they’ll be fine on the on the defensive end they gave up 108 points but after the first quarter they they weren’t that bad defensively so uh you know let’s uh let’s tap the braks on any Panic talk but it but they do need to uh get going here in a hurry can Chris STS porzingis do it again I’ll take no but I also think that the way the Boston roster is built they don’t necessarily need that to your point we could see Tatum and brown both put up 30-point games they did other things defending rebounding a few shots here and there but couldn’t we also see a game where Drew holiday goes off or a game where Derek white has a quarter where he just fills it up the way porzingis did in the first quarter because it does seem like the Celtics have the roster to Hamond eg it a little bit here and it wouldn’t be that surprising yeah and um and I think I wrote on mavs.com that Derek white is more than just an xfactor he’s a good player and and uh you know easily their third best uh scorer at least he was until porzingis returns so uh you know he’s the guy I think that that that the Mavericks make need to make sure don’t doesn’t get uh get going crazy and and and start filling it up because he can do that and and uh he’s he’s just a good overall player he’s he’s good at finding guys too he he had I think he had five assists last night so um yeah hey the Celtics won 64 games and we’re by far the best team in the regular season for a reason they they they’re good the roster is very diverse they they’ve got lots of talent lots of weapons uh the Mavericks are a little more t tunnel vision with Luca and Kyrie and Kyrie we got to face facts he had a he had a horrible shooting game it was as bad as I’ve seen him shoot it uh in the playoffs really and um I don’t think that’ll happen again he he tends to come back from those sort of things with the with a fire in his eyes so uh we’ll see what happens with him but uh I I agree with you I don’t know if KP can come back and do what he did uh but he has a chip on his shoulder I mean he’s playing his former team and and he and uh the Mavericks did not end uh all that well as evidenced by the trade uh so uh you know he’s gota he’s got to prove that he can come back and do it again and and let’s not forget he is coming off uh five weeks of not playing with the calf injury so I I I was very impressed with the way he came back last night Eddie SEO joining us writer for mavs.com after game one of the NBA finals this is a weird schedule there are so many it’s 72 hours to the next game so often I think there’s one exception in the middle of the series are we GNA see I mean donic played 38 minutes and he didn’t play at the end of the game because everyone got pulled because it was over is this going to be a series where we’re going to see him play low 40s in minutes and if so can he be effective given the NBA Finals with the long TV and timeouts and all that do we have to said not think about the Dallas bench because Don Irving and Washington are going to play these enormous minutes well if he plays low 40s uh you know it’s only because he doesn’t play high 40s okay uh that’s that’s the way it’s going to work I mean he’s going to be on the court uh he’ll he’ll get his three or four minute rest uh late in the first quarter or and or early in the second and that’s about it I mean in a close game he’s going to stay in there he’ll be he’s very likely to pay it the whole 24 in the second half if need be uh they got I guess you can kind of look at it as a break where they didn’t have to over overuse him last night or Kyrie for that matter uh because the game was out of hand but uh he’s got to be on the court and and he did not have a a terrible offensive game you know he took 26 shots to get his 30 points but but he’s you know he’s he’s rolling and uh I you know we’ll see he just got to have some help I mean we can look at the box score and tell there just wasn’t a lot of uh lot lot of maybe that’s the Celtics game plan maybe they’re okay with that uh if the results were like last night why wouldn’t they be so uh let’s uh let’s see what happens in in game two but right now uh I think Luca is ready to go full 48 if if need be and and uh and Kyrie too Lively’s obviously been great for the team and he’s just been such a I mean you just don’t expect that out of the young guy like that but that was that was rough and when the fouls started coming they came really quickly uh five fouls in 18 minutes is something what what do you expect out of him in the finals and how much you expect him you said you expect Irving to bounce back and I think we all get that do you expect Lively to bounce back well yeah he did get the Shawn Bradley award uh last night for fouls fouls the fastest 5,000 uh he was nowhere near the record by the way but but but he’s uh he’s learning uh and uh I got you know I got to give a shout out to this kid he has been through so much uh in his rookie season uh we all know he lost his mom and uh they were very very close and uh he’s he he knows his favorite saying now is he’s got an angel on his shoulder when he’s out there and uh it’s it’s a it’s a heart-wrenching story but but one that’s he’s taking as a a chance to Triumph because he knows this this is exactly what his mom would wanted to be doing and and he’s way way mature Beyond his years uh smart kid and and and uh athletic is all get out I I understand that’s part of why he gets in foul trouble sometimes but uh that’s also part of the reason why he’s so effective the Mavericks had no law threat last night to speak of uh that’s got to change that’s one of the things that that they hang their hat on on the offensive end the Celtics did a great job of of negating that and uh and gafford’s good at that as well but it’s got to be Lively that that uh that has the bond with Luca uh and by the way I think you’re going to see that for years and years to come from the Mavericks I think that’s going to be a a tandem that you probably ought to get used to so as much as we look at porzingis as offensive numbers with brown and Tatum size and athletic ability and then with porzingis at 74 everything you say about the lob is true but the Celtics coaches and the Celtics players are probably just as dialed into it is this just strength on strength then this is what we do and this is what we stop and who wins yeah and and and give the Celtics a a w for game one in more ways than one in that respect so uh and KP you’re right uh I think he got called on one foul for when he uh kind of pushed his butt out there and and and leveled Lively but but mostly they did a good job on it uh I I I think on the other end is where I kind of have some concerns because both he and Horford uh have a tendency to hang around the three-point line and that’s that that’s not where Lively is is most effective and and he’s going to have to figure out how to uh to to work off the switches and get out and and cover the line but also be able to get back can get a rebound or or help defend the rim because I mean that’s just the way the Mavericks defense is built so uh it’s it’s on Jason kid and and by the way that he’s proven very good about adjusting for game twos they’ve they uh they have one game two uh you know in every series so far and uh that’s partly because he knows how to uh figure he and his staff Sean Sweeney deserves some credit on the defensive end uh they know how to how to fix things and uh you know I have faith in these guys that they’re they’re going to come back firing on Sunday it’s you know it may or may not be enough but I but I do expect a a really competitive uh and entertaining game on Sunday let thing before we let you go there are a lot of people with Utah Jazz ties in the Mavericks organization partly because organizations are so big these days there’s so many people in the front office and on the coaching staff rosters have gotten bigger too but Dennis used to run the show here and is doing some scouting and Advising for him Alex Jensen’s an assistant coach he was here uh high school college and pro and then also Dante exm do you interact with any of those guys uh can you shed any light on uh uh how they what what they learned early in their career that they’ve taken to Dallas or are you not interacting with those guys that much oh yeah no especially Dennis uh I have known uh Dennis since he was in Houston I covered the rockets in the in the 90s and he was on Rudy Tom jovic’s uh staff uh worked his way up through the through the ranks and and uh terrific guy as you guys know up there uh and smart and his fingerprints are all over this team uh and and I I he doesn’t he doesn’t want to be out in the Limelight he lets Nico and and Jason and and well previously Mark Cuban but but the mainly Nico and Jason now that to St out there and and and uh you know be the the the faces of the front office but but he’s back there and he’s got all sorts of of of input and and uh has had a big say in some of the roster moves uh on this team and thank goodness because uh he he he’s he’s a big asset for the for the organization uh and uh you know and and exm has been he had a a really good regular season he has not had much of a playoff run uh but that’s all right he won them some games in the regular season and for a guy that’s on a on a small contract like that that’s all you can ask if he helps you win two or three games in the regular season he’s he’s earned his money uh and and uh you know and of course Alex he’s he’s a really good uh he’s a really good fit for this coaching staff so yeah all three of those guys especially Dennis I mean I I’m I’m have I think the world of him if you can’t tell uh and uh I like the way they they uh have put things together and and Dennis I I remember talking to him back when he was with the Jazz I had to sit down with him before one regular season game up there I I just wanted to pick his brain about some things and and it’s amazing what he knows and what he can tell you uh you know especially if he if he knows you’re not necessarily on the record and you’re just trying to get some some information so you sound a little smarter when you talk uh he he’s he’s phenom Al and uh the Mavericks were real lucky to have him well Eddie we appreciate the time I’m sure if Steve Loom knew we had you on he would want to say hello so on behalf of Steve Loom Hello hello the Illuminator we you know we don’t get to see each other as much should yeah but he always he always spoke highly of you and and always had it is for you the Mavs theme song on the way out Eddie CCO mavs.com Don’t Worry Be Happy Eddie says that’s their theme song going forward game two Sunday night DJ and PK it’s 975 The Zone we got more in the NBA finals coming up with David lock at 8:00 so stick around DJ and PK that’s next and also our sell midseason Jason Christ joins us from rell’s front office coming up at 825 DJ and PK it’s 975 The Zone this is DJ and PK Utah’s highest rated sports radio morning show for over 20 years ridiculously good presented by Murdoch Hyundai Utah’s number one Hyundai dealer for 16 years in a row a 975 the KSL Sports Zone [Music] DJ and PK it’s 975 The Zone the question of the day brought to you by Sig freeden Jensen with 30 years of serving Utah first game goes to the Celtics what do you think of the NBA Finals now John took a while in the playoffs but apparently Dallas is who we thought they were not sure I want to say that yet you will could be true John certainly they were in game one right if you didn’t believe in Dallas early in these playoffs you’re looking at game one like well finally that’s what I thought would happen I just don’t know that Kyrie’s going to shoot like that every night and I don’t think porzingis is going to do that every night and when the pressure is on Tatum and brown are they going to come through best case scenario no pressure couple stories from the Utah Jazz the old days when they were deep in the playoffs that I think still appli to this series Here Eddie sethco was just on and then I mentioned Steve LOM because they knew each other they were beat Riders sefco was in Houston and Steve LOM was covered in the Utah Jazz for the Salt Lake Tribune and I got told a story that they were out somewhere and they saw Barkley and the schedule had just come out for the playoffs and Barkley’s like somebody somebody wants the Rockets to win and they were like what just there’s three four days between games and the rockets at that point are an older team hem Barkley Pippen are all older and they’re not a very deep team team and so that rest was crucial to get play guys big minutes and sure enough Barkley nailed it the two games where there were the the four days between games he was talking about those are the games the Rockets won and when they played every other day the Jazz won and crushed Houston in a couple of those games 20 point wins and I look at this schedule Dallas doesn’t have the depth to hang with Boston but the games are spread out so they don’t need the depth and the games have these long TV timeouts you can Channel Surf and go watch a movie and come back and not miss anything and so that helps and donic played 38 minutes and I think Kyrie played 37 but and and I said won’t they play low 4S and NCO said if they’re playing low 40s this because didn’t play high 40s 45 minutes they’ll play 45 minutes and there’s only one time they got to bounce back with a just a day in between games I mean they never do back toback in the NBA Finals uh but mostly it’s like it’s play on Thursday and then you wait until Sunday and that gives a chance I did think that gives him a chance to recharge and re-energize and all that but I did think donic was huffing and puffing if there’s a comparison for donic is Shaq he’s not in great shape and both of them I think think what do I need to be in great shape for I’m comfortable I eat what I want and I dominate basketball games it doesn’t catch up to you until later until later in your career now the other thing that applies is a David lock theory about what the Jazz had to do to beat the Bulls and I think this is what the Celtics need to do to beat the Mavs and they did it in game one and we’ll talk with David lock about his theory next he’ll join us right after the break right here on the zone
