Maybe buy a 2nd round pick. Doubt many teams will want trade their picks because they can be valuable but Indiana has 3 2nd rounders. Doubt they trade the highest one though as their team is about to get expensive. Looks like the Pianoman unloading almost every 2nd round pick through 2030 might not have been a good idea.

This what the Pelicans roster already looks like…

    1. Zion ($36m)
    2. BI ($36m)
    3. CJ ($33m)
    4. Herb ($13m)
    5. Larry ($11m)
    6. Dyson ($6m)
    7. Trey ($5m)
    8. Hawkins ($4m)
    9. 2024 first round pick
    10. Matt Ryan ($2m)
    11. EJ ($2m)
    12. JRE ($2m) team option
    13. Jose ($2m) team option

We’re losing Jonas, Zeller, and Naji.

There are two scenarios. The first is the Pelicans are considering trading BI and/or CJ which would mean the team needs open roster spots to take on multiple players. The second scenario is we’re keeping those guys but need to backfill the end of the roster. I just don’t believe Gayle is going to spend the money to buy a 2nd rounder. I think it’s more likely we pick up a free agent.

This is considered by many to be the worst draft in years- one scout went so far as to say that the overall #1 this year wouldn’t crack the top ten in most drafts.

That doesn’t mean value can’t be had, late. But, I’d rather wait to trade until “in the moment” if we see someone available we like; as opposed to making a trade in advance and potentially being stuck with no one of real value in that spot.
