The PERFECT Off-Season for the Atlanta Hawks…

The PERFECT Off-Season for the Atlanta Hawks…

this offseason for the Atlanta Hawks is absolutely massive they finished the season 36 and 46 and quite honestly aside from that Eastern Conference Finals run they’ve been pretty mid their last win season with more than 43 wins was 2015 as you can see here they’ve been very mid over the last few years so this is a huge off season they have a chance to really turn this franchise around after Adam Silva gifted them the number one overall pick they’re going to get one of either Zach breez sh alexar or Donan kingan and we’ll talk about which one that they should get later on in the video but they have a bunch of decisions to make like who they want to keep treyer to jontay Murray they got cap casualties to decide about and they got to fix this horrific defense so stick around for the full video we’re going to be talking all about it and with that being said let’s go and get started I think it’s safe to say that the experiment of Trey young and Deonte Murray playing together has failed um they’ve had two years together in both of those years this team was below 500 overall um I think you know they tried to be like Luca and Kyrie the problem is neither one of these guys is as talented as Kyrie much less Luca so it didn’t work the question is is Trey young a winning player and he’s had five years with Atlanta to show us he’s racked up three All-Star appearances in all NBA selection um by the age of 25 but the Hawks have not had a season with more than 43 wins and yes they were on Pace to get close to that in the co season um but Trey who averaged 26 points 11 assists and three rebounds this year in 36 minutes a game was not efficient only 43% shooting from the field 37% from three that is average for a guy that’s making this much money you want him to be above average and to on top of that he has regressed he was all NBA uh in 2021 2022 all NBA third team where he averaged 29 Points 10 assists on 46% shooting from the field 38% from three and since then his numbers have just gone downhill further and further over the last couple of years so I don’t know I’m not sold on Trey young um the you know the duo of Trey and Jon Murray has kind of underperformed ever since they sent three first rounders to the Spurs and they could be in big time trouble they could really be paying for that mistake here in the next few years because this is their last first round pick they have until 2028 um dejonte averaged 22 and a half points a game 6.4 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game this year so it was definitely a solid season for him he was way more efficient 46% from the field Dan Trey young um 36% for three not great his defense has kind of regressed a bit one of the more you know overrated Defenders now in the NBA whereas he used to be a really really really really good Defender now not so much um and the question is who to keep hot take I’m going to jonte Murray I would rather have de jonte on the team for the next five years than Trey young and hear me out there are a couple of you know good reasons why I think this um he’s owed less money he is more efficient he has better size it’s not a small guard League anymore and he’s a better Defender much better Defender even though like we said his defense has regressed he is a much better Defender than Trey young Trey young is 6 foot on a on a good day he’s 6’1 and he’s making 140 million over the next three years Deonte Murray is a good 65 and over the next four years he’s making 30 million less despite being under contract for an extra year than Trey young that is why I want to keep Deonte Murray around I know Trey is you know he’s kind of the Superstar of Atlanta on the basketball side of things but it it’s just not working out um they also have some big decisions to make in the draft because there are three top tier candidates for the Hawks at least this is what I’m hearing um their defense was atrocious last year as you can see by the Numbers just absolutely horrible their two centers on the roster are Clint capella and Ana kongu um and in my opinion it comes down to their center of the future as to who this number one pick is going to be I would take Zachary Reese but it seems clear that the hwks want a center um looking at kingan he’s a lob threat for sure yes these are F freshman year highlights from him he’s a great rim protector defensive anchor um an above average passer as well for a big uh but he cannot stretch the floor at all no three ball he’s just he’s got solid um touch around the rim and that’s that’s about it offensively he does have a very high floor um as you can see you know what you’re getting when you’re drafting Donovan King and that is a defensive anchor with average offensive skill set as for alexar he is also a rim protector and a lob threat he’s more athletic I’d say although I believe he’s an inch shorter um and he can stretch the floor he shot about what Christof poring a shot from three ball in his 18-year-old season overseas um low floor high ceiling type guy so if you want to take the Gamble and you know you could take a shot with Alex saw I don’t know if it’s going to pay off though like I said ret is my number one pick but I think it comes down to these two 7 foot plus centers um now some trades that they’re going to look into they’re going to be very active in the trade market uh that’s at least my understanding this off season um you’ve got Clint capella averaging 11 and a half points 10 and a half boards one and a half blocks in 26 minutes and you know his numbers have regressed his production has regressed ever since coming over from Houston year by year um still has not developed a three-point shot that’s never going to happen at this point in his career because he’s going to be 30 next year unless we see some Brook Lopez type stuff uh but he’s got one year left on his deal for about 22 a. half million he was their second highest paid player this year I think it’s time to go ahead and move on from capella like we said you’re going to let your number one overall pick start from day one whoever it does end up being um so I think time to move on from Clint capella other trades you can look into um you can pick up the phone on bdon bogdanovich and DeAndre Hunter Hunter this year we saw some flashes of him being healthy he played 56 or 57 games it’s the most in a while 15 and a half points per game four boards and an assist and a half although his defensive numbers declined a bit um 4 6% shooting from the field 39% from three on five attempts in 30 minutes per game so I mean he came off the bench 20 games as well this was a a little bit of a glimpse of Hope in the career of DeAndre hunter in Atlanta because yes he’s been hamstrung with injuries over the past few years off the bench he even averaged 16 points per game five boards one steel we’ll see what they decide to do going forward but I think DeAndre Hunter is a guy that they need to keep um he’s he’s making 70 million over the next three years so contract a little bit Hefty but I think you pay that price for a really good Defender um that can also stretch the floor uh bdon bogdanovich I think is probably going to be time to move on from him 17 points per game three and a half boards three assists in 30 minutes per game this year but he was only shot at 43% from the field he does stretch the floor a little bit 37% from three on eight attempts but he’s going to be 32 next year and you are not a contender by any means he also had a defensive rating of 120 which was of their 10 rotation players that was second worst first um and he’s on a threeyear 48 million deal with a player option that last year so we’ll see what they do with him I’d trade bogy keep DeAndre Hunter that’s just my opinion though they do have some extensions they have to give out Jaylen Johnson just had a breakout year and he established himself as a Cornerstone to this franchise he will be here for quite some time he AAG 16 points nine boards 3.6 assists kind of this new generation of hybrid forward guards that can run the floor make passes like that um and also shoot it at a high rate 51 1% from the field 36% from three on 3.2 attempts for him um breakout year he established himself as a Cornerstone a building block whatever you want to call it a guy that’s going to be here for quite some time and he’s going to get a solid bag on his rookie extension as long as he doesn’t just have a terrible year this year but with you know the archetype he has at 6′ n 225 lbs wow on Chad hen’s head very likely that we see him here in Atlanta for quite some time a guy that just kind of popped up out of nowhere late first round pick a few years ago out of Duke I guess you could say although he kind of quit halfway through the year sadique Bay 14 points per game six and a half boards that looks good but not good at all one of the worst defensive ratings on the team and he shot at 32% from three 42% from the field not good very bad he he was a three-point shooter um and then has just regressed in Atlanta and he is an expiring deal would be a restricted free agent though um don’t know how much the Market’s going to be for him the other young pieces they have Ana Kong Wu Off the Bench as a backup big I think I’d keep him as a backup for whoever the number one overall pick is you have Kobe buffkin who did show some signs last year as maybe being a franchise piece um or not a franchise piece but a good role player if you do move on from Trey or Deonte Murray same thing with AJ Griffin had a good rookie year don’t know what happened this year though let me know yall’s thoughts down in the comments section below though would y’all keep TR would y’all keep Deonte Murray Hawks fans feel free to chime in I didn’t even get to cover who they should sign in free agency um but a lot of trads on the table this summer for the Atlanta Hawks let me know your thoughts 1. Whatever the Atlanta hawks do, they’re perpetual losers, just like every Atlanta sports team. Massive disappointment and failures
