Dan Hurley turns down the Lakers, Will remain at UConn | NBA | THE HERD

all right it’s official W bomb Dan Hurley has turned down the Lakers offers 6 years 70 million so the Lakers offered him $1.5 million per year which is double his Yukon salary we predicted it that was our leene I said I felt 6535 he would pass I had two really good sources on this one somebody that talked to Hurley this weekend and he was having real doubts he was asking people who he didn’t know particularly well what are your thoughts on it what would you do he was searching for answers and and my feeling is there were too many certainties his wife’s from the East Coast yukon’s a juggernaut he’s the best college coach they’ve got recruiting morum it’s you know it’s a nice place to live he’s got control of personnel his parents history is high school and college coaching not the NBA uh the Lakers is a Big Brand I do not think it’s a great job right now so my feeling was 6535 he would stay anytime I’ve had to make a big decision if I’m going to take the job I kind of know really quickly after an interview if I’m asking myself questions 36 hours 48 hours after an interview you didn’t you didn’t come with a compelling enough case and and I’ll just say this is J Mackin made really interesting points earlier that you have to strike when the iron is hot that is true in most cases that it’s like it’s like Taylor Swift is on fire get her on tour like I get that but be very careful one of my rules in life be very careful about trying to get happier than happy Dan Hurley wife’s from Jersey great program he’s a very happy guy who just won a national title be careful about trying to be happy than happy if you’re happy you won go on the internet everybody’s angry everybody’s pissed nobody’s happy everybody’s tribal I wake up I drive to work I’m happy every day I won be careful about trying to elevate above that uh he’s in a great spot best program great family you know it’s a beautiful place in the country to live he’s got control over personnel and I think the bigger picture is Laker fans struggle with this don’t F Big Brand with great job the NBA is not the NFL you just can’t it’s not baseball where you can just buy as much as you want it’s not football where you can trade almost anybody you want you’ve got a salary cap and you have to have matching salaries to trade it they don’t have a lot of draft Capital this is also and I I don’t think this can be underscored LeBron is a lot in LeBron’s Prime you would put up with anything he got you to the finals he gets you to the playing game in the west and by the way the West young players joic is getting better ant’s getting better Luca is getting better all the Western players the young Stars ant they’re all getting better LeBron’s getting older well but the Brand This is not college sports where a Jim Harbaugh or a Steve sarkeesian or a Kirby Smart can walk into Georgia and get 25 first round picks every year the Lakers don’t have two of their next four first round picks so this is a very hard league and the draft only gives you about eight good players a year like you know go this is a bad draft draft picks don’t mean anything this year people are trying to push draft picks off in the NFL you’ll get a bad draft two years ago it was a weak NFL draft most of my executive buddies Scouts buddies were like you run out of player by late third early fourth you’re out of players now you can get puka AA there are gems but it wasn’t considered a great draft this was considered a great draft but in the NFL you’re going to get four really good rounds with with still gems undrafted fifth six seventh in the NBA like this draft you may be you may not have a star in it you may not have a single star in this draft so you and also when you get get in the NBA when you get a star he’s 19 he’s Jaylen green he doesn’t even know how to play Detroit Lions get pan Su great day one Aiden Hutcherson great year one you get in football you get guys that can play immediately CJ strad stud second half of his first game SAU Garder lockdown opener that doesn’t happen you’re I mean wemi comes into the league he’s the best Prospect they’re saying ever do you see how many games the Spurs won the same as the year before without him and that’s the great player of the future of the NBA so you get an occasional Draymond Green or joic in the second round though there’s a reason I can name them half the NFL is undrafted so it’s a much easier bill I mean Oklahoma City has done everything right everything right for four years everything they’ve won every trade they can’t beat Dallas they can’t win a second playoff series and and Sam pry for three to four years has literally just I mean think of how good Danny a did in Boston he won every trade it felt like for five years right like everything and they’re still looking for titles hi everybody it’s me Uncle Colin subscribe here to get the latest from the herd including exclusive behind the scenes videos and more wherever you may be however you may be watching thanks again for making us part of your day

  1. Lakers have been a horrible franchise for nearly 2 decades . If LBJ doesn’t get them that title the Lakers would be the cowboys of the NBA

  2. The Lakers never really wanted Hurley this was just a publicity stunt to show that they were looking at all candidates for the job, that’s why they gave him a low ball offer, JJ Reddick will probably be there coach 😂

  3. With his reputation at UConn, he can coach that program for as long as he wants to. With the Lakers, he’ll get fired after his first season. Sure, he’d collect double the money, but then he wouldn’t be able to go back to the college game. Money ain’t everything.

  4. I like my home town lakers they should have kept Darvin Ham.
Darvin just took them to conference finals last year.
My Lakers deserve this smelly egg on their face.

  5. I think this is the smart move for Hurley. Would have been a bad career decision, personal decision I think for him, and I think he knew that. Also would have had the pressure of coaching Lebron James, trying to force a championship out of his last years which most likely is not going to happen. Lakers and Lebron just are not the draw they were in the past, hard reality for those folks to face. I think maybe Hurley would be open to the Knicks, Celtics, Nets jobs in the future.

  6. Lakers offered a HC candidate the equivalent of $13.3M/yr in 2004. $11M was never going to land Hurley; the Lakers are either idiots or just did it for headlines, which is also..idiotic.
