Mastodon @Boston Celtics Dr. Daniel Kharrazi, an orthopedic surgeon at Cedars-Sinai and former #Lakers consultant, told @BostonGlobe he’s seen a injury like Porzingis’ once in 25 years. He was optimistic about Porzingis’ ability to play: gary washburn (@GwashburnGlobe) on X

I’m still kinda flabbergasted with *how* rare this fucking injury is…
I guess it’s befitting of a unicorn🦄😑
This is what I want to hear so I will believe it to be true
Seems to be that the general consensus is he can play through it.
Well Gary just followed up saying “Dr. Kharrazi added that Porzingis will eventually need surgery to repair the injury” He can play through it but this summer won’t be fun for him and he definitely can’t play for Latvia
Porzingis will also eventually require surgery, per Washburn’s [tweet](https://x.com/gwashburnglobe/status/1800655760331874567?s=46)
We are so fucking back.
Curt Schilling by any chance?
Wonder how long the recovery time will be for the surgery
Generational injury for a generational player
Wouldn’t the rarity of this injury mean it’s riskier to play on though?
My guess is he attempts to play limited minutes tomorrow if cleared, simply because it’s doesn’t seem like resting him for a game or two is going to help.
Hopefully he can at least play tomorrow. If Celtics can go up 3-0, I think they can manage to win
1 without him.
15 mins where the refs slow the game down and some timeouts in between
I’m leaning towards games 3 and 4 KP is out, game 5 they try to play him
The doctor saying “if he’s just running up and down the court and some lateral movement” doesn’t sound that optimistic. It’s gonna be very difficult for Porzingis to only do that.
During the 20th anniversary of the ‘04 season, we are now repeating history with KP bloody sock game
I don’t envy the coaching staff needing to make a decision.
1. Play him like the last 4 minutes of each quarter (16 minutes total ) and try finish the series by winning game 3. You can also just see how he goes after each quarter.
2. Rest him game 3 and play him game 4. But do the 2 extra days really make any difference to this type of injury? Not sure.
3. Rest him both of those games and have him come back in game 5? Again, does that improve his recovery at all with this type of injury?
If he says he can go in game 3, then I think option 1 is best.
If the risk is he misses most or all of next season and he’s never the same again, I don’t know if it’s worth it. I’d hate to see him put his career in jeopardy. This team can win 2 more games without him.
I don’t need these doctors fluffing me, dude. Just doom, me, baby
I think KP wants the title over playing for Latvia.
So I got another safety guy.
Who there was ever someone who needs the knees over toes guy, it’s porzingus
>I don’t think it’s something that he’s gonna make worse by just playing, especially if he’s just running up and down the court and even some lateral movements may be OK.
This doctor doesn’t watch basketball. There’s no way he can go out there and expect to only move laterally “some.” If it’s not safe to move laterally (Which happens a lot in basketball) then it’s not safe for him to play.
