He can attack mismatches, finish way above the rim, shows touch on floaters and moves his feet defensively. If he gets into an ecosystem where he can become well-versed in the little things, he’s already beyond his peers at the harder-to-teach skills.
Questions about their projection: He might not have any idea how to play professional defense as a rookie. And while he can shoot, if he’s playing the 4 is he versatile enough on offense to put it on the deck and attack closeouts? Can he handle stronger, quicker wings defensively, or will he be a tweener — tall but not particularly strong, quick or instinctual?

Seems like a cool type of player, tht would definitely be fun, but I feel like the Knicks FO wouldn’t take an Ignite players certainly not a young, raw one. It sounds like you think his potential is more of a 4/big wing than a 4/small 5 right?

Thibs doesn’t like the profile of these types of players. Not enough defensive acumen.
Would go with the opposite player profile; a person with the skills, tools and desire to defend like Ryan Dunn for example, over Smith, even if raw on offense.
Knicks just worked him out recently too
The g league ignite was a dumpster fire on defense imo. I think his defense could improve with the correct coaching and situation. I’m not saying he’ll be kawahi but he certainly has the tools to at least be a neutral defender at worst
