[Windhorst] Paul George, Clippers could seek an opt-in and trade like Chris Paul years ago

Interesting video of Windhorst's thoughts on PG this summer. While we all know this in theory could happen and know the Clippers pursued this route with Chris Paul, the assumption is that it is not a very likely option because the clippers and PG would have to be willing to do this and PG may have max offers elsewhere with cap space teams who he can go to without a trade. Plus the clippers have signaled that they want to keep PG.

However, just wanted to post this as I think it is always important to listen when Windhorst says something that isn't being thrown out as a likely option by others as he tends to 1) know a lot 2) likes to tease things vaguely that end up materializing. In other words, he usually is very intentional with what he brings up and shares. It was also very interesting that he brought up the date of the NBA draft and his opt in date being close (June 26 and June 29) and how the draft will be the first date to look out for possible news on PG…wonder what he is hearing if anything. Could be nothing…but could be something.

honestly, that would be the best option, at least we’d get something for him, but that would be tough to see. he has too many teams he can go to that have open cap room that “may” be appealing. And if he opts in I think we’re still over the second apron so we can only trade for the exact amount? the new rules are complicated.

  2. We got Pat Bev, Lou Will, Montrezl, and more for CP3 when CP3 had no intention of staying. I would absolutely take a trade like that for PG if PG wants a max deal.

Seems like if an Opt-in and trade becomes an option it is because PG is prioritizing location (west coast to be near family) and Clippers want to move forward without him at the number he wants. Since if it is a money thing he would probably go to Philly. Which would mean the teams that could be in play for a opt in and trade assuming he wants to stay in California would be Warriors, Kings, and Lakers in that order as I doubt we would trade him to the Lakers. Could there be a Kuminga, CP3 and stuff package from GSW? A Murray, Barnes, and stuff package from the Kings?

  4. Called this sht months ago. If he doesn’t wanna go to philly or orlando this was his best route to go to a team he wants.
