so we are about a quarter of the way through the WNBA season and the Washington Mystics yes my hometown Mystics sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference at 0 and2 and that also is the bottom of the WNBA but in my eyes you have to cut the mystics some slack of course no Elena delodon she is sitting out the season and then Britney Sykes has only played in one full game and Shakira Austin has only played in half of the games this season so far so it’s not like this team is fully healthy and just can’t get the job done even with all of these injuries a handful of these games have been very close I know they play the Liberty pretty tight but nonetheless if the mystics continue on this trajectory they will have a lottery pick in the next WNBA draft for those who don’t know how the WNBA Lottery works it’s only four teams with the worst cumulative records from the prior two seasons for example the Indiana Fever had the worst record in 2022 and the third worst record in 2023 which made them a lottery team now say everything rolls in a mystic’s favor and they get the number one overall pick that means Yukon star Paige Beckers will be in DC now this could potentially be how the Mystics roster looks next year I think a delodon trade is just waiting to happen this off season in exchange you’re looking at draft capital and maybe some dep and when you look at the roster the core players are locked in in terms of contracts but on the flip side Maisha Hans Island to Kimbro Walker Julie vanl are unrestricted free agents so decisions will have to be made a potential starting five you’re looking at Britney syes Paige Beckers Ariel Atkins Aaliyah Edwards Shakir Austin now that is a starting five that could make some noise now when it comes to Paige extremely gifted offensively she can do it all and really thrives in that mid-range area and what I really like about her is that she can play off ball as well she can run off screen she doesn’t need the ball in her hands all the time and I think that will pair well with Britney syes and of course she would be reuniting with her college teammate Aaliyah Edwards so the chemistry will be there I’m also thinking about the excitement Paige would bring to the city I put her in the same realm as kayln Clark Angel Reese Juju Watkins you know these new generation stars but yeah like I always say we’ll just have to see how things play out
