Dray: “The way I view it, [Steph] covers up for me on things offensively, I better be there to cover up for him defensively. B/c that’s how this thing works, where I fall a little short of the glory, you pick me up there; where you fall a little short of the glory, I’m going to pick you up there.”

Dray had Derek Fisher on for his post Game 4 show tonight and I thought their discussion about the talk around Luka’s defense was interesting in that it’s a perspective few fans share or consider. I thought the part below, at the start of the clip and which precedes the quoted portion in the title, was great Warriors/Dray-specific insight. I say Dray-specific, because I’m not sure there’s anyone else in the league that can cover the ground he does in a single defensive possession so it’s hard to know just how applicable the advice/perspective below would be outside of the Warriors when Dray is on the court:

“I always tell my guys that are a little less of a defender, just don't give up a straight line drive. If you can make him literally take just a small veer off the path that he's trying to go on, just a small veer, I can get there & help & cover it up for you. If you just give him a straight line drive, it's hard for me to not over and give up something crazy over here because I over help. So just give me one slide where you're still in front and if he gets past you on the second slide, great no problem I'll be there, I'll cover my man, and I'll cover him too like nothing not for you to worry about.”

This only works if you are on the floor with him. Please get your shit together this season and don’t get ejected/suspended.

Didn’t really apply when your ass is suspended.

He’s extremely lucky to have a calm, loyal, level headed, humble superstar like Steph as a friend and a team leader.

  4. Yep. This is why the Steph
dray trio was so well balanced. Steph had offense and playmaking. Klay had offense and defense. Dray had defense and playmaking.

    Perfectly balanced
