Is the #3 worth this?

Would be part of a larger Houston trade but would Memphis agree?

I don’t hate it, not sure it’s enough seeing as Houston is going to be looking for players.

We don’t need draft picks. Like it or not this team is in win-now mode starting this season at least while Jaren is on his current deal

Lose 2 years of early picks just to move a few spots with **this** draft class?

Hell fucking naw. Take the best asset at 9 and see who turns up in FA.

In 2026, the following dynamics will be at play:

**1.)** *JJJ’s contract will be up and for a bunch of reasons, both parties feel it’s best to part ways.*

**2.)** *GG & Vince will need their contracts extended and get some real money.*

**3.)** *A range of role players will be at or near the ends of their contracts and the organization will need to make a decision on what they’re paying them.*

In short: things will get expensive in 2026. And you know what the best thing is about a draft pick? They’re cheap for about 4 years. Especially those selected in the late first round where we would reasonably expect to pick based on any sort of post-season success. Giving up a first round pick is not something to be done lightly.

And for what? The 3rd pick in this draft? To get who? A center?

We pick at 9, meaning there are 8 selections before us. Sarr is going to be one of those picks and Detroit, Houston & San Antonio —*none of whom need a center*— have 4 picks between them. That leaves Washington, Portland and Charlotte as possible destinations for a center to end up and I just don’t think Clingan’s necessarily that good a match for any of them. There’s just not a great argument for taking him over the better talent who’ll be available at those points.

But if any of those three take your precious Clingan, we can just take Edey at 9 and watch him eat Clingan’s lunch eat time they play.

There’s just no way you understand how the 2026 pick swap works if you think this could get it done. Why would Houston drop to 9 for a 2nd and a pick swap that likely will poof out of existence / is jumping a couple spots at best.

There are better hobbies to have as an uninformed person than pushing random buttons on a trade machine.
