  1. LongTimesGoodTimes

I don’t think he’s going to be a good NBA player

  2. Theoneandonlylog

There’s many many players I’d rather take

  3. Confident_Pen_919

Seems like everyone in this draft is a gamble. Personally think this guy’s lack of speed will keep him on the bench

  4. ChunkyMilkSubstance

He’s not a modern NBA caliber player

  5. RemoveHuman

Nice college player who won’t have an nba career.

  6. its_adeuce_nosnowman

It’s just risky. He was getting locked up in the uconn game by Clingan bricking 3 footers.

I think he can be like zubac who was really good for the lakers.

If he can get 8 points 10 boards that’s all we need to let Anthony Davis play power forward.

Lebron, AD, and Edey is scary ngl.

  7. Creative_Category_21

Should not be taking any risks with the 17th pick lol

Look no further than JHS. How did drafting help us compete last year? Cant take these chances

  8. Low potential, slow feet, he’s going to get beat off the dribble easily. Don’t like the idea long term. Personally would rather get Ware/Missi if we get a big man

  9. PENIS__FINGERS

He’s gonna be better than people think. He improved alot last season, soft touch, durable, solid rim defender, agile for his size although still slow.

  10. Loud_Ad393

He’s been working on his jump shot right? Depends on if the scouts feel like it’s something that can be developed. Otherwise the spacing would be a disaster.

  11. idontact3

Seems like the sub isn’t too high on him let’s see how this plays out in a few years

  12. KaseyOfTheWoods

I’d rather pick Daron Holmes, but wouldn’t be upset over Edey. He’s huge, durable, in good condition, nimble for his size, has nice touch, and only started playing basketball in 10th grade. No character or motor concerns. I’d like to see what he can do on defense with a ***MUCH*** decreased offensive load.

Good FT shooting and nice touch gives hope that he can someday shoot, but that’s a way off at this point.

  13. At first I didn’t like him but the more I think about it the more I would like the pick. Him or Ware if we’re going for a center and I wouldn’t mind Holmes as well

He’s gonna be a drop big who gets hurt on switches, but everyone that’s not AD or Bam does anyways. To me I think he has a really high floor, I think Zubac with 4 more inches in height and 7 inches in wingspan would be such a unique player. In terms of upside, I think you’re getting elite post and rim protection to go along with inside scoring. That’s huge considering considering similar archetype centers like Kessler or gobert are useless on offense

I think he would be great here as ADs backup from day 1 and if he develops eventually a really good starter

  14. Illustrious-Fig6819

Heard he has a top 10 promise already so more than likely won’t be in our range.

I think Grizzlies are going to take him

  15. WayneOnABeat

He’s ours if Thunder don’t grab him first

I don’t mind. It might be a season or two early but feels like the NBA is going to be a big man league again. Edey will always have issues if he needs to guard stretch 5s but with guys like jokic, embiid, Giannis being premier bigs and guys like Wemby and Holmgren coming up, teams will need to stock up on bigs to clog up space on defense. Defense scheme is key if they have a edey/ad/bron front court. Not much wing protection there but should be dominant inside the 3pt line.

In offense it looks like he has at least 18ft range and a nice touch around the rim. Good hands and willing to fight for rebounds which is probably what AD needs. Will need to see if he can work off the lebron/AD mid post without killing spacing and if he can set big screens.

    I’m not an expert.

Would love him, dont think he’ll be available though

I’m genuinely not sure what this sub has watched when it comes to Edey. There are concerns, but most of the posts in here don’t seem to really address the actual concerns that I see when I watch him.

Slow footed doesn’t ring true. He moves really well for his size and actually has great motor as a kid who is 7’4″ and played huge minutes in college. His combine stats also tell a different story. Among Cs he was better than most within the short distance areas. He was a little slower as a sprinter, but that makes sense. He may not beat your Center down the floor every time, but he’ll outwork him over the course of the game.

It’s also easy to just skate over how effective he was in the post. Admittedly he won’t get those touches at the next level but it bodes well for his touch near the rim where he was excellent. He’s got a tremendous soft touch, is ambidextrous near the basket, and even showed good touch as a shooter in draft workouts.

His problem is simple- in college his offensive asks were SO high that there were some things he didn’t do enough of. He wasn’t necessarily as active defensively as he should have been because he needed to avoid foul trouble, but that shouldn’t be a concern at the next level. Can he be more active as a rim protector? I don’t see why not. The other problem of course- he really can only play defensively in a drop consistently. He can occasionally show or blitz, but not consistently.

However, this idea that those Centers don’t exist anymore is just flat out wrong. Jokic is that type of Center. Embiid is that type of Center. Obviously, he won’t be those guys, but you know what he can be? Zubac. Nurkic. Adams. Valenciunas. Poeltl. At some point possibly late career Brook Lopez. There’s tons of these guys that are still effective despite their limitations and given Edey’s makeup and college career I’m not willing to just write him off as a big stiff just yet.

He’s not my lock down pick for 17, I’ve got others ahead of him, but he’s worth drafting.

  19. I would honestly love this pick.

I have a feeling most people who say he doesn’t have a NBA career and will only be good at college haven’t seen him play and are just thinking he’s Boban 2.0 based on the his weight and color.

The guy has insane touch around the rim, he’s strong and durable and plays heavy minutes too. he averaged 2.2 Blocks per game despite carrying the entire offense.

He even has a pretty decent looking jumper and he’s a better FT shooter than Clingan as well.

The sheer length on the floor that we would have with him and AD on the floor would be insane. If we need to, we can bench him in the playoffs to let AD play more 5 since he’s a rookie as well. (Something we couldn’t do with established players like Westbrick)

Go look at Zodiac GM on Twitter. I don’t care for that stuff but his stuff is usually accurate he says Edey would fit well w Bron and AD.
    If the stars align ✨

  22. WarriorBearBird

If he slips to 17, and we don’t take him, fans will be complaining about it for years as he outperforms whoever we’d end up with.

  23. pedrovoncenzi

He’s underrated and been improving every year not sure why he gets hate

  24. rebeltrillionaire

I think he goes top 10 and Lakers fans are kidding themselves thinking he’ll fall to them.

  25. Miserable-Lawyer-233

Bad fit for the Lakers. Too slow. Can’t shoot. Hurts both pace and spacing.

  26. Tangentkoala

Project dude that can’t score against players like biyombo All that size limited him and he didn’t put in the work to be competitive against 7 footers or guys that are strong.

Dude will fold so hard against 3rd string centers like biyombo.

Don’t know about his work ethic and even if he has the Mamba Mentality drive to improve and put the work in. That probably warrants an interview.

I wouldn’t pick him at 17 maybe second round or undrafted.

  27. TwoTalentedBastids

Perfect, another player on the team that can’t guard a pick and roll and can’t move his feet

  28. Dwestyoung

Would rectify getting rid of Zubac cause he got that same type of play-style as him, I would take him

  29. White-Gravity

I keep hearing people saying he won’t fit in the NBA but he was the best player in ncaa this year, if he falls to 17 it’s a no brainer to pick him

  30. GoalPublic3579

Thoughts are we should just let LeBron and AD leave if that pick is used and not fucking traded

  31. From what’s been mentioned which goes for scouting, mobility issues as well as he’s about a 25 minute player you’d be bringing off the bench? Find some starter’s, no point in moving up to select a player coming off the bench. Maybe trade slightly down while picking up another pick and consider drafting Edey or another big who’d be available?, Pelinka selected JHS at 17th last year.

  32. TyrionJoestar

If he’s the best player they can get at that spot, sure. Only thing I’m worried about is the fact that AD needs help NOW. The AD/lebron window is closing fast and idk if they can wait for this kid to develop. I’m glad I’m not in Pelinka’s shoes lol.
