HOUR 3: NBA Finals were awful | Minnesota would’ve been a better matchup against Boston + MORE
[Music] looking for the latest on the Jazz Utes cougars and Aggies we’ve got you covered this is H Olsen and Scotty G on 975 ESP Sports [Applause] [Music] Z hands and Scotty 75 the KSL Sports Zone all right hands we saw game five get away from us in the NBA the Florida or not the Florida well they might be in the NHL here pretty soon but your Boston Celtics or your NBA champs your 2024 NBA title holders um and they did it in really a remarkable way too and when you add it all up and you look at what they were able to do 64 wins in the regular season and they win an NBA title in 17 games was it 17 or excuse me 16 and three 16 and three yeah but they win it in 19 games 19 games 19 Scotty they lost three postseason that’s it okay does that speak to the competition that they saw in the East because sweeping Indiana in the Eastern Conference Finals is unacceptable uh and but remember they had dealt with the injuries I mean you got the Donovan Mitchell injury against the Cavs Miami was Miami had uh uh Jimmy Jimmy Butler yep Jimmy Butler hurt Donan Mitchell hurt um halberton hurt uh Luca banged up it was a mess yeah they I mean I don’t want to take anything away from him but you know they got a good draw Boston had porzingis out a bit but porzingis came in and he closed out he still added something last night yeah I think but 16 and three in a postseason run is absolutely ridiculous that is just I was reading this morning it’s the second best postseason run of the 18 Celtics team uh the 18 Championship Celtics teams there was one postseason run that was better and and I think that there were two losses but it was it was in the 80s and I don’t think there were seven game series back then like I remember I remember the first time Golden State won a title you and I were year one or year two of the show and David lock came on and said Golden State’s going to win the NBA title and they’re going to do it in 20 games or less and you and I were just like that doesn’t happen and and they did it in like 21 it was close and I thought that’s a crazy number to do it in 21 to do it in 19 games yeah it’s shocking and the fact that they never trailed in that game they had a 26 point lead everything was going their way in fact so this guy named pton Pritchard plays a total of one minute on the court in that one minute he hits a shot that was about 10 feet behind the half court line yep and he’s making a regular occurrence out of it twice in this series yes but this one was 10 feet behind the half court line so people are calling a halfcourt shot it was behind it well behind it yep and he hoisted it and it hit just before the half so you had texted I was like I’m going to hang out I’m going to keep doing this thing he hits that and I was like I I could not watch it but then I watched the second half because you got to get the story lines yeah got to see the reaction well I’m not going to lie I made it through the uh first part of the fourth quarter then I’m like I’m done I don’t want to see Boston prance around I don’t want to see their idiot fans I don’t need to learn anything more about it full disclosure I did not watch the fourth quarter in that game last night oh no I did just because you’re a better man than I am I didn’t know what else to do I’m like well I might as well I watched Derek white get his tooth chipped and then do a postseason a postgame interview he’s like I’ll knock out all my teeth for a championship did you see that Derek Lively land on him yeah smashed his face busted his teeth out those chicklets were busted yeah they’re jacked good thing he’s got good healthc care yeah they were jacked that’s what he said he’s said I’ll get all new teeth I don’t care he was feeling pretty good so now we go to zero and 157 that is the number of 3 leads or three deficits zero and 157 yeah still never a NBA team to come back from a 3 or an 03 hole it’s gonna happen some year it’s going to happen just we don’t know when it would have been nice to see what do you think happened to Kyrie Irving all honesty do you think it was the crowd I think crowd got to him a little bit I think the moment got to him a little bit um he’s a better player than what we saw for sure and it’s just it’s a little depressing to see I was a little bummed out about it expected more out of him yeah he kind of disappeared yeah and I was kind of I wanted him to shove it the Boston fans nose and this he’s been on a nice little Kyrie Redemption tour and now it’s now that’s out the window do what do you think about um this Celtics team you saw the early projections they’re already the favorite to win the 2025 Championship are they going anywhere anytime soon I don’t think they’re losing anybody so the nucleus is back how important is a a Drew holiday or Chris Taps porzingis huge I mean porzingis I mean obviously they won without him but I I think we talk about yeah that’s the thing we talk about Tatum MC Brown holiday was as key to anybody on that team in this run I felt like he was critical yeah F like Derrick White played roles at certain times and Y you know I think that this team is currently built probably goes and gets another one how often are we talking about this Ser this these playoffs though like it just doesn’t feel like this was a really fun playoff there there was some fun stuff early on well the only the only real fun series was it was it was Denver and Minnesota yeah yeah that was the but then but then Minnesota got trounced and it just you know to me this kind of Western Conference yeah yeah this just kind of a ho home like like what you were saying yeah the Western Conference Finals was setting up to be yeah beautiful it was NBA Finals set up to be beautiful and it wasn’t can you believe what Dallas did to Minnesota after what Minnesota did to Denver yeah and it was like uh that’s a stink Fest and the East was worse and the problem is is that we needed to see Denver and Boston that’s the matchup we needed and I think that would have been a six or seven really fun entertaining series but Denver wets the bet against Minnesota would Minnesota given Boston a better run uh I think defensively they would have been way better Luca Luca has just been a train wreck defens the care Factor too is just ridiculous there’s nothing there at least at least show me something I texted you how hard the pill of saying Jake Scott is right is to swallow I and I don’t know do I need to swallow the pill because Jake and I Jake filled in for you just sometime right during the finals before the final I can’t remember what and he essentially he said Luca Don’s triple doubles are Hollow and I said like like Russell Westbrook Hollow and he said yeah now it got him to the finals but it it proved that triple doubles and Luca can’t do it in the finals he could do it to get to the finals he could maybe do it to get out of the West maybe but but then it’s like wait a second that’s still really valuable yeah you got me a finals appearance you know that that’s all we would talk about for five years if the Jazz made it to the finals win or lose we’ve been talking about that for longer than that and now we’ve been talking to about almost 30 years that’s true we do we we hang on to that don’t we yeah yeah so I mean how many times have we talk to bowler and bowler brings up stockt in him Malone yeah because he remembers it because he I was right in the middle of him and working here at KSL and and covering those teams like crazy and the the closest you’ve only been that close one other time since then one one time to the Western Conference Finals that’s it yeah so it’s worth it and it’s great but when the rubber hits the road can Luca donic do it and that’s now going to become the big question and that that’s the proverbial cross he’s going to have to bear is can he do it yeah because his he is just getting roughed up by his lack of effort on the defensive side was it Jay Williams that goes he’s fat he’s got to lose weight like guys are coming at him hard or was it wi horse windhorse better not Brian windhorse didn’t he come at him windhorse came at him didn’t call him fat but but Jay Williams did and now it’s funny how like you’ll see these Talking Heads one guy goes strong at somebody and then the rest of them are like oh me too me too me too yeah and so now they’re all piling on him it’s kind of got a little bit of a Rudy gobear factor to it now it’s cool to hate on Luca the defensive player nobody doubts how great he is offensively but defensively and and this one has lot of element to the TRU of truth to it he’s got to be better defensively because he’s just getting picked on Big Time yeah how how old would you guess Kyrie Irving is I’ve looked it up here 29 so how to guess he’s 35 he’s 32 okay for some reason I I I remember seeing how old he was and being surprised by it so that’s why I went low yeah but yeah because you know he did that what old guy show yeah I didn’t never see it Uncle Drew or something like that I’ve always felt like Kyrie was old so I I actually it just popped in my mind like how many more years in Prime Kyrie do we have and two three maybe he’s still got at least three 35 37 yeah I think 37’s pushing it I think 35 might be the number three more years and you know you talk to the Nerds and they say it’s not about years of age it’s about minutes played and he’s got a lot of those he got a lot of minutes played the the co year didn’t sit out a lot in the co year yeah uh yeah he was not allowed to play right yeah so but I think other than that he’s stayed pretty healthy and played a lot of basketball hasn’t he I think so and he’s been on Olympic teams hasn’t he uh yeah I would assume so yeah I think I think so looking at his minute total he’s a uh in his career he’s played 13,000 minutes and uh you add playoffs come on where you at sorry I know this is fantastic radio ended up with 15 points he was five of 16 shooting so he’s played 13,000 regular season minutes he’s played about 3700 playoff minutes so and there’s a number and lock next time we get lock on I’ll ask him this I think the number is 20,000 combined minutes where you see the drop off oh so he may be coming up on it there’s a number where the Nerds have looked at and they say once you hit this number there’s a there’s a plateau huh there’s a number where you start to hit where you come back a cliff yep yep well you got to imagine he at least has two more seasons with LCA where where they could build something and come together well and maybe you know if you’re looking for cracks in the armor perhaps this is the situation where you know you get old angry Kyrie back or maybe you do get disgruntled Luca yeah ticked off Luca was pretty darn nasty yeah he hates Rudy goar he hates Rudy he nearly retired Rudy in those Western Conference Finals yeah well the NBA is over now we look forward to the NHL game five tonight Oilers Panthers what are you thinking you think this one’s done yeah I think it’s the same thing as what we just watched with Boston last night I hope not I know but that’s what it’s gonna be I think you’re everything’s going to be fine I just can’t believe the things that were reporting I know it’s crazy it’s not like these are misdemeanor arrests this is burglary kidnapping and assault domestic violence assault grabbing your pregnant girlfriend and dragging her down the stairs after breaking into the house with of that there’s going to be video of that has to be right yeah I think you made a a pretty interesting observation the Precedence of of Andy Reid’s son yeah the bad precedence of yeah it’s like how do you how do you rule over all these people after yeah you know and that guy that guy easy thing am I I don’t want to misspeak I think he’s out of jail didn’t he get out I think I think he’s on probation yeah yeah I think the prob the or house arrest or something like that the governor or somebody somebody stepped in like he was pardoned yeah it’s hard to get after people horrible and yeah exactly what how does how does Andy Reid bugs in and say hey Andy Reid or Brit Reed son of Andy Reid has prison sentence commuted by Missouri governor Mike Parson that was after they won the Super Bowl you it was March March 1st oh that’s that’s a bad look that’s bad look that was only a but even then he was only supposed to serve three years yeah it was already a pretty minimum sentence he’d served less than half of that oh that’s such a bad look hey thanks coach for getting us a Super Bowl and what’s crazy is here’s the quote Mr Reed has completed his alcohol abuse treatment program and has served more prison time than most individuals convicted of similar fences really what I don’t know about that one there’s a 5-year-old that was left as a vegetable yeah I know nobody died but it’s like that’s just as bad and ugly he will be under house arrest until October 31st 2025 with strict conditions of probation including weekly meetings with a pearl officer weekly Behavioral Counseling attendence weekly meetings with peer support uh sponsor and stringent community service and employment requirements yeah I’ll take that over prison Isaiah bugs man just continuing and and I don’t know which offense is worse driving accelerated speeds leaving the accident and about five others that we’ve talked about in the ugly it probably goes back to Patrick Mahomes dad getting a DUI just before the Super Bowl there has been like Mahomes is always dealing with a family member that’s in the ugly and he’s not the problem as we’ve talked about he not it’s not him this is not a him problem he’s not and I could you imagine him he’s looking at Travis Kelce on this Taylor Swift tour and he’s just like H I’m going to lose him yeah he Travis Kel getting caught in that world and when they when you get a lot of the players that get caught in that world the Kardashian world or whatever whatever that world is you lose them yeah it’s just a matter of time and Mahomes has watching this just one by one one of his receivers one of his defensive linemen one of his assistant coaches his dad his brother it’s and it’s they’re falling like flies man they’re so caught up in their success that they can’t see past it by the way I am leaving it open for Isaiah bugs to be falsely accused because we’re seeing it so I I will always mention it now because we’ve got a couple of instances in particular on false accusations that ruin lives that they have since been exonerated found not guilty yeah but nobody talks about that part and nobody talks about it yeah all right time to fire that old roulette will Lloyd let’s get it going can humans get mange great question does is coverage for for the UEFA Euro Championship or whatever Euro coverage and they had this side view of Landon Donovan and you could just see this huge chunk of hair gone behind his left ear massive chunk kind of a triangular chunk of hair gone and his teammate his LA Galaxy teammate Mike McGee actually sent him a text and said uh hey dude your hair and Landon Donovan responded he goes oh man I had a transplant surgery but they told me that it wouldn’t show up on on fil oh boy and then they got a bad view if you went on the front view you would have been fine but that side view did them dirty and Mike mcos are you okay if I released this text exchange I actually retweeted the text exchange because I was laughing so hard but Mike McGee was like hey your hair looks really bad and Lon was all caught off guard he’s like what man they told me they they you wouldn’t even to see it but it looks bad he had a big chunk of the back side of his head pulled so that they could pull the The Roots out and plug them into the top of his head at that point I’m not ashamed of it I’m just like yeah just have fun let it go like I’ve been do dealing with some stuff and you guys have been really cool about it but that but but if that was me you guys would be having a Heyday with this yeah we’d be we’d be having fun we’d laugh at you yeah as you should and and I’m sure you’d laugh at yourself and be like yeah yeah I can’t believe that showed up it looks really bad it looks horrible horrible change is hilarious it is so funny it is you want me to read it yes please okay so this is the Tex text exchange between him and McGee McGee texted him and he said uh Landon will you check Twitter ASAP you probably should fire your bar Barber Landon responded with the the face palm and it says Where Were You seven hours ago Dude I had hair transplant procedure two weeks ago and I was told that it wouldn’t show up on camera and McGee goes who told you that haa Marquez which must be one of their teamm yeah and Landon tweeted a bunch of smiley emojis and then a middle finger emoji and and then his teammate says can I post this and he goes whatever I deserve it good night Mo so he posted it he said Landon check Twitter ASAP it’s not going well man it’s not not working out for you buddy oh boy that’s rough yeah all right Lloyd spin it coaching is fun but it’s not that fun all right so you get guys that just are so ingrained in coaching that they just can’t get out of their system Jeff and gunny’s got a good deal right is or did he get out was he part of the firings of ESPN oh so he’s he’s unemployed yeah well he was fired he’s not hurting for money no he’s going to be the lead assistants lead assistant Tyrone L Clipper staff he’s coming out of retirement he’s going to be one of the assistants for tyo with the Clippers he’s 62 years old spent the last 16 years as a TV analy um wow he been 16 years yeah he was with the Celtics apparently I didn’t know this he would accepted a role with the Celtics uh to kind of help in their development kind of a uh in office position um but he wants to get back out on the bench and so at 62 years old coming out of retirement not to be a head coach but to be tylo’s lead assistant with the Clippers well at least he’s jumping on a team that could potentially do something I don’t know kaai is so bummed out man I’m afraid if I was sitting there with that contract I’d just be sick to my stomach because you know you’re going to just you know what the Clippers are going to be yeah good regular season team yeah quick out in the playoffs yep expensive and kawh play 50 games and no future yeah it’s not like you’re sitting there waiting for things to get better because they are what they are yeah yeah but maybe he makes a difference I but still they do have some good talent that he can work with I don’t know I wouldn’t do it 62 but these guys are cers yeah they need it it’s like the air they breathe well I mean it was like uh you know sadly he’s passed but uh oh shoot defensive coordinator for Utah who helped us out on the oh coach peas yeah yeah John peas said he tried to retire for a year his wife kicked him out of the house you got to go back to work you’re miserable yeah he said he failed at retirement failed at retirement yep I mean some of these guys they get in their blood so much they just can’t shut it down yeah where are we with the Lakers coach is it still JJ reic uh I know that they will be they will be interviewing him this week do you think they reached out to Gundy no G Gundy won want to he part of LeBron and LeBron wouldn’t want any part of V gun yeah because he’s been the target probably too many times so if it’s JJ reick is that is that just uh that’s just a buddy y letting a buddy coach right and it’ll last a year maybe two tops do you think that’s what it’s going to be that’s what I think yeah I don’t know the well there was an ESP is that where you headed no go ahead Jay is it Jay Williams yeah did you hear Jay he he accidentally said Lakers new head coach JJ reic he goes firsttime head coach JJ reic I do wonder if that was a slip but I heard that or was he just having fun with it I think that was yesterday no he was Dead series and what I saw oh make sense I think it just slipped I didn’t even I mean I’ve watched a few of the playoff I mean I’ve watched all the games that he’s called I’m not over really impressed with him as an analyst he he doesn’t stand out to me no I thought out of all the coverage I felt like JJ reck was the best of all of it yeah Doris Burke wasn’t bad Doris Burke does a Doris Burke is just crazy well prepared yeah because she knows that she’s going to get hit hard because she’s a woman and there’s going to be a lot of people that don’t want her there so one thing about Doris is she’s really prepared yeah I thought she did pretty good um Mike Breen is the gold standard of play-by-play guys on TV I think I don’t know who it was but sometime in the end of the third and maybe beginning of the fourth they were going to break and whoever the the guy was said Boston Celtics trying to put this went away but the Dallas Maverick’s hanging around and I’m like that was reic yeah was that reic yeah and I’m like oh dude you can’t that’s lipstick that looks bad on that pig man you can’t even I know you’re trying but can’t even do it it’s that’s just terrible it was the worst game I’d seen in a lot of years well that’s that’s a hard part too though you know being in that situation where you’re calling a game and you know it’s a blowout but you want to keep people around and you want to keep them interested I don’t and you’re trying to you’re trying to tap dance a little bit like well folks stranger things have happened in your mind you’re like I don’t think so I haven’t seen anything Stranger Than if this team came back and won this game Luca’s patched together with everything broken yeah his teammates don’t care Kyrie’s checked out because he’s got his fill bads hurt because they keep yelling Kyrie sucks that game that game was so dead it was just so lame yeah please don’t let that be our NHL final night I to see and I could see the selection committee somehow making that happen if by and Kentucky you think they would take that into count and be like yeah they’re not supposed to there’s a big rules
