Knicks Rumors on Trading Mitchell Robinson For Luke Kennard via ESPN

Knicks Rumors on Trading Mitchell Robinson For Luke Kennard via ESPN

[Music] ESPN has proposed a trade idea that would send Mitchell Robinson to the Memphis Grizzlies with the New York Knicks acquiring Sharpshooter Luke Canard and a future first round pick on today’s Nicks Now by chat sports video we’re going to break that down and I’ll give you my thoughts on if they should pull the trigger on that deal but first smash that subscribe button for me we put out free inform of entertaining passion driven content every single day on your New York Knicks sometimes multiple videos a day and we’re trying to catch the Los Angeles Lakers report another channel here at chat sports that covers the NBA we’re almost there and I want to catch them so hit that sub button if you love the Knicks so the trade idea that ESPN has proposed is as follows Luke Gard becoming a New York Nick with the Memphis grizzley sending a future first round pick to the orange and blue while Mitchell Robinson Mitchy no snitchy getting sent to Memphis and overall I think that this is a creative trade idea but I’m just not so sure that it makes a lot of sense for the New York Knicks Chris Herring of ESPN was the one who came up with the idea and here was his rationale Fork saying quote Robinson’s $4.3 million average salary isn’t prohibitive but Nicks might want to move off his deal to make more space to pay Isaiah hardenstein who came on strong this past season as a rebounder Defender and an impressive passer while filling in for Robinson who is limited to 37 games this season including the playoffs due to ankle injuries Luke Canard 27 makes essentially the same amount as Robinson and as a two-time league leader in three-point percentage could help the Knicks spacing Off the Bench the Grizzlies could throw in a future first round pick to sweeten the deal in case the Knicks needed any extra motivation to deal away a starting caliber big man and I have a lot of thoughts on this but I want to talk about the player Luke gard and what he could bring to the New York Knicks if a deal were to happen 6’5 just 27 years old but he only played 39 games last year for mempis he actually was a guy that was collecting some dnps as the season went on but when you take a look at what he’s done over the last four years some injuries have started to stack up playing 39 games this year multiple reasons for that we talked about it 59 games in 2022 70 games in 2021 really good and another good season of 63 the main reason I would want to trade for Gard is his ability to knock it down from Deep he hasn’t shot less than 44% from Beyond The Arc over the last four seasons he is truly one of the best three-point shooters in the NBA and a skill that I think would always translate for a player coming to the Knicks is their catch and shoot three-point percentage when you have guys on your team like Jaylen Brunson who gets double teamed he’s the head of the snake and opposing teams are always going to try to double team him they’re going to have a lot of Shooters open and we also forget that Julius Randall before he got hurt was the sixth most double teamed player in the NBA if you’re going to double team you’re going to leave Shooters open and Canard he knocks that opportunity down at one of the higher Clips in NBA history shooting 48.7% on catch and shoot threes this year 52 the year before 46 the year before 45 42% the guy is almost automatic when he has it catch and shoot three presented to him and maybe the New York Knicks need to improve their three-point shooting right regular season they shot just 35.8% from three number 14 in the NBA in the playoffs though they were extremely efficient from that area shot 37.5% from Deep number two of all 16 teams that made the playoffs but when it comes to attempts per game the Knicks could definitely Elevate their volume I think the more threes you shoot the better it’s going to be for your offense especially if you’re the New York Knicks that likes to rely on extra possessions with offensive rebounders long shots equals long rebounds and it’s just math at this point three is more than two you’re 13th in regular season when it comes to three-pointers attempted per game an 11th in the playoffs so while the percentages above League average cool I think that the volume could take an uptick for the New York Knicks on their offense when it comes to Luke Canard in his contract he does have a team option for $14.7 million for this upcoming season seon so after this year he would be a free agent and the question then becomes a you deal for him are you going to Reign him or you just going to let him walk in free agency are you doing this deal more so for the future first round pick or because of Luke Canard and what he could bring to the basketball team before I give you my thoughts on this trade and we break down Mitchell Robinson as a player I want to hear from you in the comment section would you make this trade if you were Leon Rose you add Luke Canard three-point specialist a future first round pick but you give up Mitchell Robinson one of the best offensive rebounders and rim protectors in the league type A for accept type D for decline I’ll give you my in the comments and description of today’s video when it comes to that trade I am going to decline it for a long list of reasons but mainly not mainly let’s just start from the to the the top and work our way down a reason I’m declining that trade is we have heard the New York Knicks are going to pick up buan bogdanovich’s contract for $20 million this season right are Buon bogdanovich and Luke Canard going to be playing at the same time for the New York Knicks off the bench we’re going to have two small forwards that shoot the three ball and don’t defend coming off the bench I don’t think you can have both if you’re going to decline bogy’s option and then look to go sign a center to replace Mitchell Robinson with the full mid-level exception sure but I think it’s a little redundant Overkill to have bogie and Luke Canard Point number two Mitchell Robinson is what the New York Knicks have built their identity around Mitch bleeds New York Knicks basketball when you close your eyes and you of the Knicks what do you picture defense effort and offensive rebounding he checks the Box on every single one of those the stats aren’t beautiful when it comes to points per game I think we all know that Robinson is never going to a center that fills it up on a nightly basis but when you factor in what he does on the glass as well as a defensive player when it comes to blocks and steals per game I thought he was having his best defensive year of his career prior to prior to being hurt and I thought he was going to be in the running for defensive player of the year the guy was averaging over 1.2 blocks per game and over 1.2 steals per game on top of the fact he is quite literally the best offensive rebounder in the National Basketball Association he is special he was second League wide in offensive board percentage in 2021 and first in 2022 and would have finished second this past season had he played enough to qualify for the leaderboard I am though 100% worried about Mitchell Robinson and His durability you just saw the games played for him that is something that no doubt about it I know I’m worried about and I know the New York Knicks are worried about as well the guy played in just 31 games this year 59 the year before that 31 in 2020 he’s only played more than 60 games three times in his six-year career and also he’s played under 59 games three times and he’s played 31 games two times that’s definitely a question mark but the reason I’m not ready to give up on Mitchell Robinson as a prospect a player and a part of this New York Knicks team is because I can’t forget what he did in the first round of the 2023 playoffs when he went toe-to-toe with Jared Allen who the year before was was an All-Star and he didn’t go toe-to-toe he dominated him he was the best big man in that series he averaged eight points per game almost 10 rebounds 5.8 offensive rebounds for Mitchell Robinson will also giving you 2.2 blocks per game and 1.2 steals per game but it’s game five that I will never forget the game that clinched the Knicks the first round win had them move on to round two and Mitchell Robinson was the best player on the four 13 points 18 rebounds 11 offensive rebounds with three blocks and two steals the guy was unbelievable and he is what the New York Knicks want to be he’s their rim protector they have built their defense around having a top rim protector on defense they’ve also built their offense to as they know they’re not the most efficient offense when it comes to shooting percentage and being able to create the most quality looks what makes them a top offensive rating team in this league is the extra possessions created by offensive rebounds the Knicks have found kind of a little cheat code and a way to cheat offensive ratings because of the offensive rebounds and Mitchell Robinson he is the best player in the NBA since Dennis Rodman when it comes to offensive rebounding overall when it comes to the New York Knicks potentially trading Mitchell Robinson for Luke Canard in a first round pick I say no because if I am going to trade Mitchell Robinson I am doing it for a player that is a star or a superstar I just think that you can get more in return When dealing Robinson than a three-point shooter who is in a contract year Robinson is someone that can be a part of a big deal that Nets you a star and that is the only way that I would trade Mitchell Robinson from the New York Knicks make sure you are following me over on social media I’m on Twitter I’m on Instagram at Marshall greenore hit me up over there Chris Herring (ESPN) on the Mitchell Robinson Trade:
Robinson’s $14.3 million average salary isn’t prohibitive, but the Knicks might want to move off his deal to make space available to pay Isaiah Hartenstein, who came on strong this past season as a rebounder, defender and impressive passer while filling in for Robinson, who was limited to 37 games this season (including the playoffs) due to ankle issues. Kennard, 27, makes essentially the same amount as Robinson, and, as a two-time league-leader in 3-point percentage, could help the Knicks’ spacing off the bench. The Grizzlies could throw in a future first-round pick to sweeten the deal in case the Knicks need extra motivation to deal away a starting-caliber big man.

  1. I have never ever been a Fan of Leon Rose and now he is on the Edge of Committing one of the biggest Blunders in NBA and Knicks history by letting OG Walk. The Daily News said today. Asset mis management and I will be applauding when he gets fired. Retrospect is legit here because obviously you had no firm agreement with OG when you traded RJ and IQ and a Draft pick. No Dolan is in his right to Fire Leon Rose. Dolan asked him hired him to get a Star and not only has he not done that he is set to lose players. Even if OG signs I fire him anyway for letting OG back you into a Corner

  2. It's a bad idea to trade Mitchell Robinson Period. Isaiah Hartenstein is a career backup. Against Philadelphia, Joel Embiid gave Hartenstein 50 points, please don't forget that. Please don't forget who Robinson is. Top 5 in the NBA in rebounds and top 5 in shot blocking.

  3. I like Mitch but he’s gotta go. He is not the first person I think of on NYKs. He has no offense and is always hurt. He’s a great offensive rebounder because he has no offense and is around the paint. He can’t hit FT. I’m good with Mitch.

  4. I would do it… shit, MR can't stay healthy. Like the defense but you can't count on him! He's likely to miss 40 games next season as well. Trade Mitch for the right return. YES, I'd make the trade… what good is having him and he's not playing!!

  5. Unless they're swapping picks , terrible idea. The Knicks can give up 24, 25 and a Future 1st for pick 9 and that's fine

  6. Luke kennard, miles mcbride, hart, kelly oubre. Best bench in the league next season in my opinion

  7. If Im the knicks, I dont make any splash signings/trades this offseason. Just focus on resigning our stars, focus on staying healthy, keep your depth, add some rookies in the draft and see what moves you need to make by the trade deadline.

  8. I would do it in a heart beat Robinson is OK BUT HE HURST US MORE there's easily 10 centers better then him knick fans are crazy 🤪 you can't count on him for points and we need PONITS

  9. Without Mitch we wouldn't have even beat the injured sixers. No way unless you need the extra money for a star

  10. The Knicks make 1 stupid trade like this my 28 years of being a fan of the Knicks will end Isaiah hartenstein is good but I like him as our back up we need and Mitchell
