WILD Tobias Harris Report | Sixers Forward Projected WHAT?!

the writing has been on the wall for Tobias Harris’s time in Philadelphia for quite some time now we know that he’s a free agent this offseason and the biggest piece of salary cap coming off the books which is a large part of this financial flexibility and salary cap plan that the Sixers have been so committed to we got a little bit of a picture of where he might be looking and some wild takes on what his value could be that I do want to dive into in this particular video so to start with this report that we started off today saying that the Dallas Mavericks San Antonio Spurs Detroit Pistons Jazz and New Orleans Pelicans are expected to show interest in Tobias Harris per Krispy Haynes quote he is motivated to prove people wrong so I don’t know where this prove people wrong is coming from or what tobias’s specific angle is and I thought I was going to be caught up on this for this video until another report dropped that got me even more fired up and who we have this from is Brett seagull of clutch points and I hate to full out flame a guy but I’m going to have to for the way this is writing and what officially caught my attention here was this tweet that originally on his article he quote tweeted himself and said very interesting to dissect toas Harris’s numbers a common misconception is that he does not live up to the value placed upon Him however Harris has outperformed Paul George Pascal cakam and ogan anobi in head-to-head matchups throughout the years three players who are said to be receiving $30 million Contra contracts in this off season so a couple things here right away for starters Tobias Harris is not going to sniff $30 million in free agency he is coming off a season in which he’s been making $40 million which has been critiqued as one of the worst contracts of all time and I do think I can make a pound-for-pound argument that it is up there and the reason that I particularly say that is this is not a situation when you compareed to some of the other bad contracts the Ben Simmons of the world Ben Simmons is a bad contract because he does not play basketball Tobias Harris was there all but 40 games during his entire tenure in Philadelphia and he still could not find a way to live up to it he’s a guy that lacks the ability to be a primary option on a winning team and is not good enough at the comp skill sets to provide winning abilities to a team he can’t be a successful role player and he’s not good enough to be a primary score or primary option on a winning team there and then the part that I think is just flawed in this logic to pull this up once again says Harris has outperformed Paul George Pascal cakam and OG anobi in head-to-head matchups you know how much I care about the team success or how much what percentage of the I guess responsibility to that success as a team that Tobias Harris gets far l than each of those guys name that Paul George is far more important to the Clippers sex success than Tobias Harris ever was to the Sixers that pcal seak whether it be on the Raptors or on the Pacers that he was far more responsible for that team’s success than Tobias Harris was for the Sixers and we’ve just seen this guy come up small so often and in fact there’s a couple more Artic a couple more comments in this article that I did want to dig in that full out made me crack up here and then go into everything else so he writes here in one of the opening paragraphs Brett seagull wres as we evaluate this trade from 5 years ago many tend to overlook the positive impact Harris made in Philadelphia although these Sixers may not have made a deep postseason run the veteran forward is not the one to blame for his team struggles between all the injury concerns that the Sixers have battled and the lack of stability in terms of roster construction and coaching Harris was underutilized it’s that simple well Brett seagull no it is not that simple cuz you cannot give me that when Tobias Harris has played with a million different players had to three different coaches in his six years tenure that we just saw him underperform in all these situations now In fairness to debias Harris he has seen his role shift drastically during his time with the Sixers there’s no doubt about that that there have been moments when he’s been looked at to be a number two option to Joel embiid there’s been moments in which he’s essentially been regressed to a three and D style of player a catch and shoot you know Corner three-point shooting guy that was primarily during the James Harden days there were certainly periods of time in which Tobias Harris was not playing his ideal basketball but the issue with that is his ideal style of basketball is not built to win NBA games that if you just had Tobias Harris played the way that he wants to he’s going to back himself into tough contested two-pointers fade away is in the mid-range and he’s straight up just not good enough to have the ability to shoot those shots those are Superstar shots those are the same area of the floor at which Joell embiid operates and one of the guys in an MVP and one of those guys is a player who has never made an All-Star game then there’s a couple other sections that I do want to get into with Tobias Harris that particularly frustrated me this paragraph here I I couldn’t get through without laughing and Brett writes Harris is the type of player who makes winning plays for his team whether it is making the extra pass on offense or grabbing a 50-50 rebound he has been this type of player for his whole 13 career in the NBA Now set to hit free agency and pursue other opportunities outside of the 76ers the key questions for Harris revolve around what opportunities will be available on the open market and what kind of price he will demand now this specifically frustrates me cuz this is the Tobias Harris conundrum once again he cannot be good enough to be a primary option on a winning team and what is particularly frustrating is he’s not good enough at these complimentary skill sets this is the same Tobias Harris that went through his entire Philadelphia Sixers tenure without taking a charge that is hard to do you know how often charges accidentally happen during the flow of a game do you accidentally run a little too hard at somebody in the lane or bumping into him in a turn that never once happened to Tobias Harris and I also can’t for the life of me think of a time in which he came up with a hard 50/50 ball he just does not do it he does not get loose balls he does not rebound tough he doesn’t get the tough rebounds he certainly does not do that and while Joel embiid certainly has to wear some of this blame Tobias Harris is just as responsible for these Sixers rebounding issues there’s a large reason that so often it is the case that when Joel embiid comes across to try and block a shot and Tobias Harris’s job is to get the rebound it does not happen and that’s why the Sixers continually got killed on the boards no it was not all tobias’s Harris’s fault but this also shifts in the same conversation to you don’t do the other stuff well enough to make up for what is the job of a power forward and by the way it was reinforced several times in this article how Tobias is a power forward not a small forward and how he was paid out of possession well if you’re a power forward then I need a little more on the boards and I’m not saying Tobias Harris is a bad basketball player he’s an NBA player there’s no doubt about it but he’s one that is a flawed player overall and to dive in what he brought to the Sixers team this year 17.2 points per game 6.5 rebounds 3.1 assist 1.0 steal shot 48.7% from the field 35.3% from three shots 40% from on Corner threes 95.6% of his threes are assisted but just 27.1% of his shots are three-pointers still s 6’8 31 years old he’s a guy that I would consider a below average Defender and while he’s adequate in certain situations he’s never going to be a guy that you can throw the primary option that you line him up against the Paul Georges of the world the Jason tatums of the world it’s not going to go to buy Harris Direction and while we’ve seen small doses in which he has been successful in certain opportunities he’s never going to be a defensive stopper and that’s another area which with with his skill set with his ability his body he should be capable of doing his hips don’t switch Cliff quick enough he can’t slide his feet on the perimeter he gets blown by in these types of opportunities particularly when there’s anybody with an ounce of quickness his hips particularly are so tight is one of his defensive issues that he just can’t switch with guys he can’t shift side to side in the way that you just straight up have to at the NBA level now the final paragraph I think put a nice little nail in the coffin for the Tobias Harris experience here and to wrap it up with Brett seagull’s article here he writes the bottom line is that Harris is still seen as a productive player on the open market he will undoubtedly have suitors once free agency begins and the next chapter of his career has a chance to be his best since Harris is still in his prime any team that looks to sign him will be getting a player that instantly improves their immediate playoff outlook all the talk in free agency is centered on George and Thompson but may just be the most valuable player available due to his leadership and proven production time will tell what the future holds for the 31-year-old folder just Round of Applause for Tobias Harris’s agent who wrote this entire article and we do know that to be his dad and to flashback in the Tobias Harris experience with which once again making $40 million and to put this in perspective in modern-day terms in which the salary cap is higher and that there isn’t as big of a concern for this that 40 million at that point was far more notable than 40 million now particularly when we having these conversations about Paul George making 50 million or Brandon Ingram making 36 million or Mel Bridges making 24 million think about that that Mel Bridges makes 24 million and Tobias Harris was making 40 this year think about how absurd that is but when you flash back to the Tobias Harris’s timeline don’t forget that this was never the guy the Sixers wanted even when giving him that contract they gave it to him because they had to that flashback to that 201819 season the Sixers made their all-in push mid-season for Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris with a Jimmy Butler experience not working with him dead set on making his way down to Miami doing the sign and trade forcing himself out of there that there was the beef between Ben Simmons and Jimmy Butler not Tobias Harris and Jimmy Butler that the decision was made we don’t think Tobias Harris is the better player we just know he’s the less problematic of it and we’re going to rock with it because of that and the Sixers had to pay somebody as they went all in with their assets mid-season the Dario sares the Robert Covington The Landry shamet all the draft picks that it took to get those two deals done that you could not afford to let both walk for free so Tobias Harris to his credit struck when the iron was hot that he hit free agency at the exact right point and capitalized because of it but that is a one-time thing I honestly can’t wrap my brain around what an adequate Market is for Tobias Harris because I do believe he is flawed as a basketball player in a way that can never be successful the unfortunate reality is his basketball Destiny is to average empty calorie statistics on a below 500 team being a primary scoring option he can do that just fine enjoy the rest of your career with the Detroit Pistons or the Atlant Orlando Magic Utah Jazz wherever you want to end up but there is no Contender that Tobias Harris can help and I would not welcome him back on these Sixers for a veteran’s minimum for most of Tobias Harris’s tenure it was about him not being able to live up to what that dollar amount commands by the end he was straight up bad and I’ve watched every single game of Tobias Harris in a Sixers uniform so for the Brett seagull comments and bark backs on Twitter about go watch the film I’ve seen every bit of it and it ain’t pretty I watch watched him score zero points in game six I watched him be ineffective as a Defender throughout the playoffs I’ve seen the Tobias Harris experience from front and center good dude wish him the best but it better not be in Philadelphia and that’s all I have to say about that so let me know what you guys think in the comments I cannot believe that that was put out on written press about Tobias Harris I want to hear your best guess for what a contract will be for him if you have to pin me down right now I’m saying he gets like a threeyear $30 million deal and I mean like 10 mil a year is my overall response there I can’t see him getting much more more than that and my one quick side note here is where some feelings will be made up in the Tobias Harris experience if they are able to work him into a sign and trade that I don’t fully expect that to be the case it’s certainly on the table and the biggest driving force and reason why that is is because the Sixers do not have a lot of salary currently on roster it’s literally just Joel embiid officially under contract at this point so if they are trying to make a trade for the Brandon ingrams or Zack Lavin or male bridges of the world that it does make sense to sign a guy like Tobias Harris to ship off on the deal now obviously that’s going to take everybody working together so we’ll see how everything shakes out there but I do think that’s a possibility that we should at least have on the back of your mind and I will have a little bit of forgiveness for Tobias Harris if he can deliver us a guy who can actually step up
