The UNDERRATED Sixers Free Agent that MUST be Back…
there are plenty of swirling rumors for who these Sixers are targeting for their big fish acquisition the Superstar to add to the trio alongside Joel be entire East Maxi however it cannot be overlooked rounding out the entirety of the roster and ensuring that all 15 players are ready to contribute this season there’s one guy who’s kind of been lost in the shuffle from the Sixers perspective that being a player that is currently on roster from last season and KJ Martin being the topic of this video I want to bring down why there break up why there’s some unique situations both from the salary perspective and The Encore ability perspective that I think the Sixers should take a hard look on why he should be back in a Sixers uniform next year or at least be used to benefit this team so I’m going to start with this initial report from Evan cider cider here who tweets out KJ Martin is an unrestricted free agent contending teams will attempt to secure on a veterans minimum Market as a cheap rotation piece with potential upside the Bucks Lakers Nuggets Suns and warriors are potential fits for the athletic 23-year-old Wing so it was an interesting kind of story line and just overall season with KJ Martin let’s recognize that he came to Philadelphia as a part of that James Harden trade a bit of a throw in piece alongside Nico Batum Robert Covington and Marcus Morris and the draft picks which were the real prize of that deal but he overall exceeded my personal expectations and I know for some it’s been kind of a bizarre year for KJ Martin and bizarre career trajectory I do want to recognize in the second but let’s start with what he brought to the table this year I’m going start with these stats here not a lot to dig in from the box score 3.7 points per game 2.2 rebounds 0.9 assists 0.2 blocks did not play a lot of minute shot just 28.6% from three 53.6% from the field he stands at 6’6 but essentially plays kind of like a small ball big man role just 23 years old 78.7% of his twos were assisted he had a defensive box plus minus of negative 0.1 and a vorp of negative 0.4 these aren’t things going to read too heavily into again it was limited minutes and difficult situations at times that he did play and to acknowledge of his trajectory as a whole a guy with a very unique upgr for starters he’s obviously the son of Kenyan Martin the senior a guy who was a very successful NBA player and stuck around for a good portion of time still pretty active in the media circles and with KJ himself I’m kind of impartial to believe he was hustled along in a way that probably was not best for his development then when you look at his path to the NBA he did not go to college he went to IMG Academy for a season then he ultimately was a second round pick I’m wondering if he’s a guy who would have been benefited of going through the Collegiate ranks having a chance to be sort of the man at a college in a way that he likely never will get the opportunity and he’s kind of been thrown into this Niche role player type role and I think he is finding a way to flourish in it but it does feel that he’s kind of been lost in the shuffle to an extent and to dive into the stats as a whole he really did show his promise with the Houston Rockets spent the first three seasons of his career or the beginning part of three seasons with the Rockets there overall during that period of time he really shined in that 2223 season where he produced 12.7 points per per game 5.5 rebounds 1.5 assists also saw a little bit of De development from the jump shot overall through his career he’s a 33.7% three-point shooter on 1.9 attempts per game so a little bit better than what he’s shown in a Sixers uniform but again that he was in a tough spot with the Sixers team which was so content on win now and he is a guy that I think could use to play through his flaws as far as Nick nuris I do think he likes KJ as well and he had this quote pretty late in the season saying KJ Martin’s got a unique skill set that underneath the basket cutting he’s a guy that we can throw a lob to as a roller he can rebound a bit pretty versatile on defense too he can guard a lot of potential uh a lot of different positions he’s a utility player Nick nurse on KJ Martin the biggest thing that jumped out to me about Martin’s game and what I’m most impressed with I think he’s a guy who can operate as a decision maker out of the short role and what I mean by that is he can be a guy who sets a screen slips it and whether they uh Blitz the ball handler or whether they bring two guys at him when you get the ball to KJ he can be a guy that has the fouron three decision can either pick out a pass attack the basket himself be athletic to catch an alley he’s really effective in that type of setting and that’s becoming more and more common place in the NBA style of basketball guys like Bruce brown guys like Draymond Green are particularly excellent at that that type of skill set that is a mold that I see KJ Martin kind of Shifting too now I also mentioned the contract situation and that is one of the larger parts of the discussion point so let’s start by acknowledging what his current contract is that he is an unrestricted free agent as mentioned he was on just a $1.9 million Club option last year that was initially accepted by the Clippers and of course he was traded to the Sixers so there’s been so much attention toward keeping flexibility open for the Sixers options from a money management and salary cap perspective from Daryl mury I think that’s the large reason why KJ Martin is even here now to talk about why I want to start by looking at the current Sixers situation with the salary cap this is all that there is on roster that Joel embiid has his $51 million contract there Paul Reed on a non-guaranteed $7.7 million contract out on the club option for 2.96 million there Ricky Council on a non-guaranteed $ 1.89 million there we do know that the tyes Maxi Max extension is coming and deservingly so and before anyone panics about there being no progress on that I will just bring to the table this isn’t going to happen till the tail end of the off season and this has nothing to do with any sort of Doubt on either side of things but from the Sixers perspective it makes sense to fill the salary cap now and then go above it by signing tyres at that point in time and that has to do with cap holds here which also comes in the KJ Martin conversation now here are the Sixers current cap holds for this season and to put this in layman’s turns and as simply as possible what a cap hit is or a cap hold in this situation is whether or not you want the birds rights so Birds rights dates back to Larry Bird when you did not want to break him up with the Celtics in the league kind of made an exception here and has been very valuable from the cerat perspective moving forward so if you want to take on a guys Birds rights you have to take the cap hold that they are correlated there and there are a lot of intricacies in this so I’m kind of speaking a little bit of blanket term but to use the Tyrese Maxi example before I dive back into KJ Martin that you can see his cap hold for this specific situation uh right here just around 13 million just over it for Tyrese Maxi these Sixers are going to accept that cap hit that cap hold there and then that counts as 13 million on the salary cap he’s going to be paid far more than that this Summer that he’s looking around the $212 million range or 207 I believe is the exact number for his 5-year Max that is going to come out to so much more than that per season but these Sixers will be allowed to go above that number from a salary cap perspective because they’re taking on that $13 million cap pit now Tobias Harris is a guy that we obviously want back basically under no circumstances here but to use him as an example that is a player in which you will not accept the cap hit because nobody’s going to pay be paying him $ 45.8 million not even the Sixers who are crazy enough to sign him to the last contract but if you had the intentions of signing Tobias harrisb that is a cap hit that you would decline and then you would sign him without bird rights because you don’t want that number on the salary cap now the Sixers have strategically made all these numbers a little versatile and KJ Martin’s at the Forefront of that now to pull up his cap hit here it is one I expect the Sixers to dip into just over $2 million there he will likely get a little bit more than that that’s slightly below what the Veteran’s minimum is and I think that I’m very curious what the perception of his is on the the public market or from teams around the League this is saying that uh from Evan cider here that a veteran’s minimum is the Target price for him it would would not Shock me if a team’s willing to go above this but where this comes into play for these Sixers is the sign and trade opportunities by giving him the bir rates by accepting that cap hit which again is just $2 million which is pretty small in the ground scheme of things you then can do a signing trade with him where you can kind of feel out the value that you can use KJ Martin’s contract as whatever you need to make the money work and obviously there are limits to that nobody’s going to be wanting to pay KJ Martin $30 million a year or something like that but in the range of a $10 million or an $8 million or a $6 million if that’s what you need to make the money work you can absolutely make that happen and I think that could work from KJ’s perspective too depending of course on what the location is but if we’re talking about back to the Clippers on a potential sign and trade for Paul George if we’re talking about sending him to another location that could benefit for him maybe if it is a Brandon Ingram discussion if you want to go down in New Orleans I think KJ can play in a lot of places and I also don’t want to get it undersold that I would not have no issues with him back on the Sixers if it is for a limited deal and why I feel that way the Sixers need youth on this roster that as much as we are swinging for the fence in win now mode you have to be looking at what that next player is KJ Martin’s just 23 years old that there is still some growing to do in his game I like the way that he kind of found a role for himself this year that he embraced doing the dirty work doing the little things and really found productive and I do think that there is another world where there’s more to his game that he has not quite uncovered yet and I’d be willing to roll the dice with that so KJ Martin is a very underrated Target for the Sixers both from an En Court perspective and the salary cap flexibility that can be brought on for it so pay attention to what happens from here but don’t be surprised if that’s a guy that is a more key piece of the Sixers offseason than is being recognized again this Sixers team needs youth that’s one of the reasons why I’m very much for them keeping the 16th pick and making a selection this year but you got one a Potential Prospect a guy that at a point in time was regarded very highly for his potential you have him within the organization don’t just let him walk without getting better for him so I would prefer the either either the Sixers bring back KJ Martin on a minimum contract or you use this roster flexibility and salary cap flexibility to ultimately get a deal done those would both be massive wins for this Sixers team in my opinion but let me know what you guys think Below in the comments any thoughts on that as a whole make sure to drop them below drop a like on this video as well and smash that subscribe if you have not already appreciate you guys for tuning in and make sure to keep help the Sixers diges family growing I’ll be talking to you next time peace

Keep trading with the Celtics and the Sixers can guarantee themselves in the lottery for years to come!!! 😂😂😂 they are just that stupid!!! 😵💫😵💫😵💫
I think the sixers should sign KG Martin and give him solid minutes long with Ricky Council.
