[Gozlan] If the Lakers trade for Dejounte Murray, they should do it before July when his extension kicks in. If they acquire him this month, the salary-matching requirement for the Lakers would be significantly less. That would also allow the Hawks to take back fewer salaries.

D’Lo, JHS, Lewis and picks would be enough from a salary perspective.
D’lo/1st for Murray would be the miracle of all miracles. Can’t find a more significant upgrade using less draft assets.
Gabe Vincent + Rui works salary matching wise, and I honestly think Hawks would prefer that over D’lo.
Assuming they keep Trae they don’t need another ball-dominant, defensive liability guard like D’lo. They’d much prefer an off-ball defensive guard (Vincent) and a decent PF (Rui) bc they’re actually quite thin at the 4.
Of course you’d also be giving up probably 2 FRPs but I think that would be a good deal.

His value isn’t that high. We better keep Reaves.
If it doesn’t happen before July 1, it’s probably not happening.
Few things to keep in mind. If you want to execute the trade before the new league year, Lakers will only have 2 FRP’s to trade. Will only be able to trade the 17th pick and the 2029 or 2030 first. The 2031 doesn’t become available until the new league year. Lakers also only have $3.4m under the first apron hard cap for the ‘23-24 season. It’s also only a $7m difference on Murray’s contract and the apron hard cap rules are already in place so it really isn’t that big of a deal. Assuming they would even take Gabe+JHS+ 2 FRP’s that’d put Lakers over first apron so they’d have to send more salary. However, Atlanta already has 15 players under contract too so they can’t really just take on extra players.
Expect nothing, appreciate everything
I don’t know people are so hype when it comes to Dejounta Murray. I don’t think the ROI is impactful to getting more wins.
And but they want Austin Reaves…
Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t this all stipulate on Dlo opting in?
Dejounte without Trae this year was 25-6-9 on 44-37-79, attempting 9 threes a game (28 games).
If I was the Hawks I would trade Trae and build around Dejounte. At worst, Dejounte raises his value again playing without Trae and they trade him for a much bigger haul after this year.
The hawks will ask for the farm in the trade . Any other team would be a 2nd round pick and a crappy role player.
