Do the Brooklyn Nets have a major talent problem going into this season?

Do the Brooklyn Nets have a major talent problem going into this season?

coming up with the 2024 draft looming and no picks for the Brooklyn Nets we ask the question is this roster frankly devoid of talent we dive in coming up [Music] next you are locked on Nets your daily Brooklyn Nets podcast part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day ah yes my friends it is the locked on Nets podcast right here Lo on podcast Network it’s your team the Brooklyn Nets every single day he’s Doug Nory I’m Adam armick we thank you as always for making us your first list of the day we are 100% free on all those great platforms and let you know today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel FanDuel is hooking up all customers this summer with a boost or bonus daily that’s right there’s something for everyone every day all summer long visit fanduel.com locked on to get started and Doug I don’t want to say this feels familiar when I ask the question do the Brooklyn Nets just lack enough talent to be competitive in this NBA landscape uh I mean going into the season we’re a couple days from the draft you know you mentioned at the beginning Nets still haven’t traded into the draft I think there’s like probably a decent chance they don’t get there with that based on some of the stuff that we’re just kind of seeing happen around guys that follow the these teams and sort of are really really dialed into the other teams not the Nets like the other teams around the league where you can see possibly Dorian finy Smith um excitement if there was ever any kind of waning but as we look at like sort of a snapshot of the Season especially if the Nets aren’t able to dra trade into the draft you know we’re still waiting on the Nick Laxton piece but we’re we’re starting to see sort of like what’s unfolding here and there’s just kind of no other way around it the Nets probably even if everything breaks right are going to go into this season with one of the least talented like rosters in the league now things can change right this is Snapshot things change these kind of stuff goes up and down all the time but I do think if you’re a fan there’s got to be growing concern that what we saw and maybe you’re already here with this but what we saw last year on the court could be very very similar to what we see this year on the court um and you know short of major changes that could be what we’re signing up for yeah and I think when you look around the league and go back to other rosters this past season past couple of Seasons the one thing always identify is a player that that takes that jump or the player that takes that leap or the player that you acquire via the draft or via trade that helps Galvanize and we’ve talked about that extensively well who’s the player you bring in that makes male Bridges and Cameron Johnson and the current Supporting Cast better because you slopped them back into a more comfortable role or who’s the guy currently on this roster that can take that leap the problem at the highest level we’re talking about what is the core of every single conversation male Bridges is that it doesn’t feel like right now in this moment that you could look at him and go oh well he’ll take as the example the Jaylen Brunson type leap this upcoming season right that’s not going to happen we’re now a year and a half into Mel Bridges on this roster and as we repeatedly say it this isn’t a Mel Bridges problem it’s a Brooklyn Nets problem it’s a roster construction problem and that’s what makes it hard to look at this roster and say well player X or Y will be the needle mover for us internally and then you get into the other side of the conversation spending assets well who’s available and that landscape also changed this offseason too I think dramatically especially if you were in the camp of go get a Donovan Mitchell go get player X or Y they’re not there on the market right now and even a step further some of the guys that are getting talked about are the guys that are in kind of their mid-30s and you wouldn’t really want the Brooklyn Nets to get into those Waters in the short term and where Adam and I like started talking about this offline was kind of taking look at the ringer top 100 uh rankings for uh so where they landed at right before the draft now um I’m going to give a couple copat to this one um I know there’s folks out there that will not take the ringer it’s like you know it’s a be all end all of NBA Talent totally get it um also these are moving there’s like the the chains on this are always moving because like different stuff will affect these lists and so these are not these are never perfect everyone takes a different like sort of group of criteria on how they evaluate these lists so we totally get it leave a comment I get it the ringer whatever the the point is they’re what they are very good at I think these like when especially when you have like multiple voices that go in to make a list a comprehensive list is they do I think they are a good snapshot right like they’re a good snapshot of the league you want to argue about if guys should be 10 places up or down okay fine we’re not actually G to do that in this case and we’ll mention guys that maybe like may have been om omitted but as a snapshot it does follow along with sort of like what your eye tell you about this team and when it what it what what’s happening here with the ringer is you know with this top 100 and I actually think most top Huns would probably look very similar to this is that the Nets only Land Two Guys into this group they have male Bridges and um oh I just lost it real what number was Bridges at I just I just had it me um oh 50 yeah sorry he’s at 50 and then Nick claxon is at 94 and you say to yourself okay I mean how wrong is this it’s not that wrong you want to make hey should cam Thomas be up here okay I I’ll give you the list of guys who are at bottom of the list and we can make a very strong case for it should cam Thomas be in the top 30 no obviously not so right we’re always gonna argue around the band around where these guys gonna be is anyone else should even be on the list at all no right um could guys make the leap like a year from now like oh Noah Clowny just like absolutely jumped out there yeah okay maybe so there’s lots of other things that go into this and one other thing too at the risk of very being very long-winded around this one other thing is winning beets movement up these lists right so your team is good and you happen to be on the team you will then climb up the list a good example of this I think is like Derek Lively it’s like okay he’s good would he be on this top 100 list if he was on any other team but the team that just made the finals no right and so there’s other things I kind of want to highlight around the list but I just wanted to say that like when we look at it from like just a holistic snapshot is it perfect of course not is it a good look going into like the draft around like where teams stand with overall Talent yes it is yeah it is like and and when you look at this where the Nets are with a guy at 50 and a guy at 94 and that’s it you’re like huh they’re in a bad spot because when you look at other teams that have fall into similar ranges the they are in a group of teams that it’s uh it’s pretty gross and so where you start to really kind of work it’s it’s pretty pretty gross pretty the words for it but like they’re not totally suitable they’re not totally suitable for like you know if you’re listenting in the car with your kids and and if we’ll come up here in a second talking about Nicholas Claxton the back end being near that top 100 area for the most part maybe Derek Lively as The Outsider those teams that those 90 to 100 type players are on are not necessarily the rosters you get excited about going forward and there’s a key reason why Derek Lively maybe jumps up there in his rookie season it’s having a super star Talent something that we’ll digest here in a moment as well all right before we get to that we’ll tell you about our friends over at eBay look when it comes to Passion Drive patience the formula for winning Championship it’s also what keeps you ride die alive Brooklyn Nets haven’t done anything we could hear something about Nicholas claxon in the contract just to understand that yes he’s coming back I’ve had people asking me over on X you know what when do you think or what’s the likelihood I put I put it at 8020 which is probably low balling the idea of him being back I push back that some people are suggesting the Nets are in an impossible spot where they can’t afford not to resign Nicholas Claxton we understand there’s a lot of money mechanics and roster that goes into it but part of the conversation today is where you really can’t be painted into a corner if your team doesn’t have the Outlook of being competitive or by losing player X it’s going to dramat dramatically change things and there is a future conversation I don’t know if we’ll get to it before the draft getting back to these pick controls Houston Rockets and where I think we need to just turn the page and stop thinking about the pick control that’s been lost because it’s going to only hurt your ability to make sound decisions for this roster that’s an extended conversation off of this going forward but when you mentioned Dereck Lively there being in the top 100 I don’t need to break any news here he plays with Luca and that makes difference in how you look here right you can you know when you look at the rest of the guys kind of in the back end of this and again it’s not the end all Beall list but RJ Barrett this I thought was another good one by the way Jabari Smith Jr’s listed there at 98 for the Houston Rockets not a great team 500 a year ago but RJ Barrett’s a good example that he made me immediately think like cam Thomas is kind of territory where playing on a roster doesn’t totally fit team starts having a New Direction you go somewhere else and there’s enough of a re set where you get jumped up in terms of expectations and what maybe your career could look like so there’s two okay so there’s two situations the Nets face here okay and I agree with you right it’s like this can’t like look if there’s guys on this list that could enter like the top 75 next year with a with a really healthy role on they good coaching in a good system cam Thomas checks all the boxes like he could be M much higher on this list like he’s a I would say he’s a better candidate to be higher on this list than to not be on the list at all next year let’s say like if I’m just trying I think that’s very clear to me um I don’t think and like that that’s not even a hot take um other guys like it it would take you know other guys would probably take a lot the more of a role player you are the worse your team is it’s going to be hard to to to climb up these lists that’s just going to be the way it is um overall though if you like sort of look at some of the other teams who in the same spot there’s seven other teams that only have two guys in the top 100 right most of them you know there’s two and there’s two classes of these teams there’s Philly who has two guys but they’re EMB in Maxi so you’re like okay that’s your team’s pretty good if those are your two guys you’re you know the Spurs it’s like well one of them is wemi okay great you know you’re probably fine um and then the rest of the teams that are on this list with like low Talent are these young pretty bad teams right Hornets with lamelo and and Brandon Miller um Pistons with J Cade right um Washington with just kozma I mean like we’ve always said too it’s like is there any would you trade the rosters for any team I’m like the Wizards might be the are the one team I wouldn’t like everyone else I would probably I think about hard about it the Wizards I I definitely wouldn’t so you can see like so a troubling scenario where the Nets land now the one good the good thing for them is among all those teams who are the bad group who have like you know are bad and have limited Talent the Nets have the best ability to probably change it quickly by grabbing one of these tier one Superstars next year if they become available right yeah so like they they can change quickly in a way that the Pistons and the Hornets and the Wizards just aren’t going to be able to I I think right right so I I think you can and that’s I think it seems like that’s the story the front offices told themselves and has told other told anyone who will listen is that like they’re going this is going to be the plan it’s risky but every every plan has risk in it and you might think that the the the the reward is suitable for the risk but I just wanted to like just sort of like real quick look at the rest of these teams and say like sort of where they land I think they have more guy they have a few more guys that can climb the list like I IE cam Thomas they have the ability between the picks and the potential free uh the potential um cap space opening up next year to be able to just change their prospects around this very quickly who and one of the once those guys get on the team let’s say we will agree that then they will you know Rising tide raises All Ships here some of these guys some of these other role players might get dragged higher because they look better in better roles right so I think that’s like the glass very half full version of this and we’re totally aware of that yeah and I don’t think like it it doesn’t well on the one hand I’m like yeah and this is the problem with the roster and this is why it can be pretty pessimistic to look at this team going forward and then you know that there is the money as you say and there is the ability to go get a guy coming up this next off season and even all the draft picks I I can look out and take off the table having control of your own picks and just say listen by NBA terms with all the picks you currently have and maybe making a decision over the next couple of years around in male Bridges when you have that many shots to fire and that many other teams that are trying to navigate making deep playoff runs and it works or doesn’t work out they’re older they’re this they’re that you’re going to you’re going to get in on somebody like you’re going to end up turning over this roster whether you think it’s the right or best or quickest version to do so so it this isn’t really an overall pessimism but when you currently look at this roster a great example when you’re scrolling through this list and then just making your own list in your mind I came to Minnesota Timberwolves who went on this great run now remember take away car takeway excuse me Anthony Edwards and I’m not taking him off this roster but Carl Anthony towns is 32nd on this list Rudy goldar is 34th on this list and then Nas Reed is 79th on this list and then you throw in Anthony Edwards taking the leap that he takes here and kind of vaulting himself into the conversation now that to me is kind of a version that maybe makes sense from a Brooklyn Nets perspective where it what if you only get one guy what if it was the Donovan Mitchell who comes in the top 20 here in this list can you squint and see cam Thomas takes the leap Claxton remains a top 90 maybe pushes towards top 80 kind of player and Mel Bridges cements himself right and and then you start to Galvanize around the idea of we can be competitive based on the sum of pretty good parts and going and getting one guy otherwise it’s the squint to see how do you get two of these players because you can look across the rosters and really pick those out well when it’s the elite of the Elite Talent and a really solid rooll guy you can get there if it’s the if it’s not the elite of the elites then you you still need to say I have two top 30 or top 40 kind of guys plus supplemental rosters like the talent is very topheavy in the NBA and also you see how successfully some of these rosters have been able to build them build themselves and the Nets just are obviously not there still coming off of the Kevin Durant Kyrie Irving and James Harden frankly having Ben Simmons and saying we’re still in hodge podge territory here we haven’t refined this thing yet look to make the finals or like make deep playoff runs you just have to have like a top basically a top 10 player on your team minimum minimum like like just start there you can’t you’re not going to get far without having one of the very very best guys those guys are hard to get yeah drafting them is a total is a crapshoot we understand that this I I totally get the the group of fans that do not want to go the tanking route um to try to hit on one of these Superstars because we’ve seen it happen lots of times where it just doesn’t happen it happens less often than it does happen right like it just it’s very I I I totally get it so you know paying a premium for bringing in a guy you already know can be that guy is a probably a quote safer route on Italian evaluation level it’s a more risky route because those guys do not become available very often and the ransom for them is is enormous right is is franchise altering right you can’t what the Nets are going through right now with James Harden to grab one of these guys who’s a top 10 player in the league you’re going to have to sell your future to do it like there’s there’s no other way around it so this is the this is the downside of it right it’s like this what makes it makes the conversation like just sort of very difficult but if you’re looking at like the rest of these teams and you’re saying to yourself you know how hard is it going to be to get one of these guys and and sometimes I think too what people Miss is it’s not just so much picking the path it’s which path makes sense for where the rest of you your team is right now and I think that’s kind of where the net the Nets have landed themselves is like we might just be good enough with some of these other guys that this that blowing it up doesn’t make sense if you think claxon’s like you know a real piece if you think Bridges is a is a is an awesome you know number three guy right on his contract if you think cam Johnson’s contracts GNA be really super advantageous in two years with decreasing money if you think you can trade this pick for one of these guys or maybe you think the Suns picks Plus cam a cam Thomas leap gets you one of these dudes like I I that might just be the real story and it might be like they’re closer to that version than they are to the draft pick version which is going to take six years with a question mark so I don’t know it’s like this calculus is really is really pretty difficult and so I and I I we’ve advocated for like the bridges blow it up like piece but I totally get under that under the one under the one condition where it like goes back to the rockets for their own picks but I totally get why you wouldn’t want to do that because if you look around the Le rest of the league it’s like hey if someone already did the Italian evaluation that Giannis is a top five guy and we could get him because the Bucks are gonna blow it up here then that is a better choice than hoping for like Cooper flag in next year’s draft or something um and it’s always it’s always easier to go with the known commodity obviously I’m not breaking any news here the known commodity is always easier to trust in terms of where we want to go than the unknown commodity even if it means being younger right being longer term stable well yeah but that comes with Perils of draft player X and every single year somebody underperforms expectations some team is looked at and goes you may have had one of those top picks and it turns out you picked wrong so coming up here in a second not only is there an example inside of this list of teams that have a lot of talent but just don’t get across the line there’s also a building sentiment about why in the short term it’s going to be hard for Brooklyn to continue to evolve this roster when it comes to moving veteran Talent we’ll get into that to close things out coming up next all right before we get to that tell you our friends over at fandel look you love sports I love sports we love them so much we never want them to stop but the playoffs in the NBA are over we’re getting fewer games when it comes to basketball but the stuff doesn’t stop over here on FanDuel uh FanDuel just lets you keep going um basically sporting whenever you want all summer long you just open the FanDuel app you dream up bets at any time you’re in the mood they got Stanley Cub stuff rolling over there Copa America wasn’t the little us MNT La the other night with a with a two nothing win over there against friends to the South and Bolivia there got fanduel’s got this and so so much more this summer FanDuel is hooking up all customers with a boost or a bonus daily that’s right there’s something for everyone every day all summer long head on over to fanduel.com lockon and start making the most out of your summer FanDuel official sports betting partner of Major League Baseball all right so as we tie a bow in the lock on Nets episode obviously draft’s coming up we’re excited in theory if something happens we’ll tell you about it Nick claxon as well but in the meantime while the Brooklyn Nets refuse to help us out in terms of creating beautiful content for you we take a look at this list and one thing I’ll say that jumped out to me before I I I think what is a growing concern around specifically adorian finy Smith and just getting something for him and using that asset down the road for a future move one other team that jumped out to me here is the Atlanta Hawks who when you go through this list now they don’t have the elite of the elite when you run it down but a player like Jaylen Johnson who takes a leap into on this list 72nd and then you go up and you find well you also have dejonte Murray living up up in this list as well going into the 30s and you also have Trey young this is an example of 51 for Deontay Murray and then I think 34 36 for uh Trey young here’s an example of a team with three guys right in the meaty part of the curve and while when you said about like swapping your roster for another team like I think think about it hard because they got some players Etc but at the same time go back and look at this past year and think about what Atlanta’s talking about doing right now blowing up their team so you know they’re in kind of that similar spot of hey I can I can point across this roster and tell you there’s some Talent here doesn’t mean it’s good enough Talent or doesn’t mean it’s complimentary enough Talent so maybe we we say no thank you to to a couple average Seasons because that’s not the dream here the dream is being competitive in playoff basketball and this is where we’re talk this is I want to be really clear too where we’re talking about overall talent and then Superstar talent and you know what I mean like so the you’re right like the Hawks have a much more talented roster what they’ve told themselves probably is that we’ve also seen the ceiling on that roster like the ceiling is this right it’s like eight N Seed you know I mean I know they made it further than that two years ago but um or three years ago just doesn’t seem like that’s going to be repeated at this point so you like we have more talent in the aggregate but we don’t have a top 10 or top 15 guy we don’t we can’t get them and especially when we have these other guys on the contract so we just have to kind of reset it like there’s there’s in terms of like the NBA timeline all these teams are all over the place of timelines I I can actually give lots of examples like that like the kings are a good example hey two two pretty high guys in Fox and sabonis we might have seen what the ceiling is on that and then you have to kind of make your decision about being really highly competitive but never great or do or do whatever and you’re also like Hey we’re in Sacramento we’re not going to be able to you know sign a big free agent like there’s all these these other problems right and so this is where like the Nets again are might be in a good spot going into 25 where it’s like assets plus cap space Atlanta can’t get like a top 10 guy but we might be able to right like we really might be able to and we might need to live with a pain of a 2024 season that could look uh I mean we’re gonna roll with the all all summer all season long there is a very real chance where this season is is bad I don’t even know the way to put it like it’s I hope not I hope they maybe and maybe last year like last year’s doldrums paved the way for like a Plucky upstart season and that might be good enough to kind of Tide the fans over into in into whatever but like there just are a lot of other teams where you’re like yeah more talent but but we know what the peak is yeah and if you’re the Nets and you’re saying okay we don’t know what the peak is because next year is going to look a lot different when we snag one of these dudes Mitchell Giannis whatever these guys I’m just throwing out I mean who who knows who these guys are going to be then you might say to yourself well we’re in a better spot than Atlanta because we can take we have a we have a we have a swing for the fences move and they don’t I don’t know it’s like funny it’s like this is this is the funny kind of sort of chess match is not the right word but it’s it’s just a funny way the NBA can sometimes unfold where it’s like yeah right now that other thing looks a little bit better but two years from now where would you rather be I don’t know like it’s it can look a lot different and you know to go back just to Atlanta as the example it’s like Trey young well like he’s he’s he’s better than any of the players that the Nets have on their roster okay great but but they feel like they’ve gotten to your point we’ve gotten a sample of this and they’re almost unable to look at it as the Brooklyn Nets say we have really really good support players and we just need a star in front of them the Hawks look at it and say well we have a starish player I mean they probably say star but you know whatever however you want to categorize and they go and it didn’t work out so they feel like they’ve done the test it hasn’t gotten the results they wanted and they want to Pivot Brooklyn to your point is saying we haven’t even really done our test yet because these guys are supposed to be the support system for player X or Y that doesn’t mean that it’s right it doesn’t mean we agree that it’s going to work out but you can tell yourself that story one by the way it’s the exact by the way it’s the exact reason you kind of you’re the Nets do not want to trade for a Trey young right like yeah yes this is yeah people have suggested this it’s been out there before and it’s like no cuz I kind of I I see the sample is of Trey young with a pretty good roster it’s not going to be something that dramatically changes the Outlook and by the way I think Trey young is awesome I really do he’s really really really good we’ve just but at the at that contract and like sort of like just from what we’ve seen like he would be the you you put a good he’d be the best player in the Nets the day he stepped in the door it wouldn’t even it just that’s it like it’s Point stop it’s over like he would be the best player but we also know what the peak is we also know he’s not going to get into the top 15 we also know he’s just not going to get there and so it’s like it’s not better to make your team slightly better along those lines at the risk of not being able to do have the chance at the higher at the higher ceiling right and so I think like that he’s actually a perfect example of that to me and and and it’s the thing of makes your team better yes but we understand wins you playoff series I mean that’s what we’re talking about I mean Nets make the playoffs but you know win playoff series that’s what matters here you need to be good enough to get into a conversation where you’re getting out of the first round that’s the start of the conversation of making a real change to a roster and changing how you perceive your organization one thing that I wanted to note here as we head towards the draft obviously is the difficulty here around these decisions and trying to get better players at least just from the Rumblings and the sense that we get around the league the Dorian finny Smith and trying to like unload some of this stuff and prepare for that Superstar and have more drafts you know uh excuse me we’re draft Capital more draft space more cap room is that everybody around the league when you go through this list the better teams that have the highend talent are now suffering on that second apron of the new CBA they cannot aggregate a bunch of nonsense contracts at the back end of their roster to make up 14 a. half million dollar for adorian finy Smith they cannot just throw in a first round pick in year X or Y because they already gave away a bunch of those over the last couple of seasons and it is a Waters just in terms of making a lack of movement from Brooklyn palatable right now it is a it is an awareness that you may have to wait for certain players to decline options and sign elsewhere certain draft classes to go through and find out that you missed out on something and other moves to get made and this is really hard between the Clon contract and any move you want to see the Nets make to get in this draft or otherwise the Nets have always been a wait and see kind of team and now there’s like a double down of the league is kind of dictating you wait and see and that is really really hard pill to swallow I think if you’re a Brooklyn Nets fan base right now it’s really hard um and you know there’s I don’t know if you want to call like the Net’s path I mean it’s not the path of least resistance and I mean there’s like principles of least effort and stuff like that which can which when you do nothing can feel like that’s the case right like it can feel like U because I think that’s like a way what you were just describing it’s like hey do nothing and hope that it works right um I don’t think that’s like necessar it’s like too simplistic to say that that’s what the Nets are doing I think that’s the case but it can appear like that it’s like hey if we just kind of sit here and just do less then something might just happen here like something might just happen here that might not be wrong by the way it’s no no there I know that’s the hard part being super aggressive can put you in trickier spots and it’s like if we and and and exuding patience can be the hardest part because it’s like you got to deal with the Wrath of the fans and you got people asking you about all the time the team stinks or whatever and you’re you’re giving away the third pick to Houston right there’s like there’s extreme downside with this but it might be the path to the highest upside too and um and so I don’t know this is all to say look the Nets are in a ve this is like a it took us 30 minutes to say with this list to say the Nets once again for the een time are just in the trickiest spot here like they’re in an extremely trck they painted themselves into a very tricky spot where waiting on this tal like waiting on maybe having some of this Talent like rise a little bit and just waiting for someone else to shake loose is the best path and if it doesn’t work it doesn’t work but it wasn’t either it wasn’t riskier or less risky than the alternative and what I will tell you right now my closing thoughts is you know a guy like cam Johnson who maybe you know you squinted and thought would be in and around a top 100 kind of conversation he’s not there and you fast forward a year from now and I can name guys and I and I can tell you I don’t know the names of guys that will get into this conversation and all of a sudden where your veteran 27 to 30y Old support group Talent all of a sudden it just looks a little bit weaker across the NBA landscape right so you’re always battling that battle that that uphill journey of what are other teams doing how does it impact our Outlook and how do we value our players it’s why these trades and these opportunities to make big decisions are hard but sometimes you look back and go yeah probably should have from the highest level of a Mel Bridges to the lowest level of a Dorian finny Smith and we’ll see all we can do classic wait and see what happens with Brooklyn over maybe the next couple of days with the draft and then over this next season as well the Brooklyn wait and see Nets love it all right we’re gon be back mascot they were gonna make they were gonna make one it was just going to be an enormous like question mark and you know he comes down on the wires from the rafters and it’s just maybe look if something does break dor infiny Smith trade Nick LAX is signing we’ll jump back on maybe do a live episode over on YouTube as well uh make sure you’re subscribe to lockon NS over on YouTube too because I think there will be times where we do some live stuff here especially around breaking news if it were to come so make sure you’re subscribe to lockdown Nets on YouTube predictions of a disappearing Center are a warning of a bleak future that we can’t avoid if we adhere to our own founding principles that’s a lot of confusing jargon from a woman named Susan Collins oh one of the alltime great poets Hunger Games baby new book coming out we’ll be back again tomorrow talking more Brooklyn nuts basketball basketball basketball basketball basket basketball basketball basketball basketball yeah

With the offseason underway, the Locked on Nets guys take a look at the state of the Brooklyn Nets roster to see where it stacks up against the rest of the league where talent is concerned. They look at the top 100 players in the NBA, see where different Nets like Mikal Bridges, Nic Claxton, Cam Thomas others fall (or don’t fall).

Is this part of how Sean Marks has set things up in getting a superstar, or are there even bigger problems on the horizon?

  1. Ya but ATL has multiple players that can land multiple unprotected 1st rd picks+ to restart a rebuild. ATL has done a terrible job surrounding TY. I mean to go and get another small guard to put next to him was baffling.

If I'm San Antonio I'd go get TY if Wemby is mandating them to win sooner that draft picks will allow.

  2. Good pod guys. it amazes me how you guys continue to produce great content when you have such a crappy team to dicuss. I watch a lot of the lock on network and you guys are a cut above the rest. we have Jackson in Houston and we are happy with him, but I wish we had you too. the problem with Brooklyn is they are in talent acqusition mode and they are not acquring any talent. the longer it take them to focus on the draft as a way to build this team the longer the fan base will suffer. Brooklyn only has 2 players in the top 100 and IMO that is accurate. outside of Bridges and Claxton there just isn't much there. I know that upsets some to hear that, but the sooner you ID the problem then you can get to work fixing it. Brooklyn is trying to catch lighting in a bottle and while its possibe it's still very hard to do and the odds are stacked against you. what they haven't realized is while chasing stars they are passing up chances to improve the team with young prospects who could possibly help change their direction. YES you must draft good when rebuilding, but drafting is a tried and true method to getting cheap high end talent. if they were doing that in addition to star chasing that would be ideal, but that does not seem to be part of their plan

  3. With Donovan Mitchell now close to resigning an extension the Cavaliers i think it’s time for the Nets go to plan B
