In your defense, you were already wrong with “Kahn didn’t mess up” no matter what came after that part.

Hey, so long as Derrick was pissed he was good. If we had someone just punch him in the face before each game, he could’ve been great

It was 100% the right pick at the time. There was some rumblings of Williams going #1 instead of Kyrie.
Why didn’t it work with Williams? I know he was a tweener, but was he just ahead of his time as a positionless 3/4 hybrid?

The caged lion just never got released smh

So much athleticism and his sophomore year at AZ the dude could not miss his midrange jumper so it was totally a reasonable pick.
That being said, watching that dude miss finishes at the rim because he avoided contact like the plague was beyond frustrating.

Haha, I just got a Facebook reminder from 2009 with me chanting Tyrese Evans and Curry for draft picks! Glad to see I have receipts still

Also, Williams was a pretty consensus top 2 pick that year. Cool to look at that draft in hindsight with some of the players drafted later, like Kawhi and Butler specifically. There’s some other pretty decent NBA players that were later picks this draft.

My god, I was sooooo hyped for him coming in. He was so explosive and exciting at Arizona but he was just too much of a tweener to be effective, too small for PF and too slow and big for SF with an inconsistent jumper.
He certainly had some exciting moments though.

To be fair he was the consensus number 2 pick. We and everyone else figured he’d be a star. What a painful outcome.

I wanted us to trade down for Klay, probably my best basketball take ever

To be fair he was electric in college

I’d seen Derrick Williams in the NCAA playoffs where he just went off on Duke, so I assumed he was the real deal. I think he just wasn’t quite quick or skilled enough to cut it in the NBA.

I did not like the pick at the time, guy had nothing but athleticism, wasnt even that big, but there was no other prospect to look at 2 (other ones I liked were either overlaps or way too much of a reach like Kemba or Valanciunas.) so I guess I dont blame Khan too much… I blame him for trading Mirotic/Motiejunas, dont remember the pick that was ours. This was not a situation like 2009/2010 where 100% should have picked another prospect (Rubio, DeRozan and PG or Hayward, imho)
