Zach Lowe: “If you want to look at a potential free agent ‘2nd apron casualty’ the name that I’ve heard the most about in the last 48 hours is Kentavious Caldwell-Pope… If you asked me right now ‘Is Kentavious Caldwell-Pope a Nugget next season?’ I would lean ‘no.’”

Makes sense, it’s not worth paying him. We can try to use his cap space to get more role players

Yeah lots of teams are interested in him, but we have his bird rights so we can match any offer. And at this juncture I doubt we are trying to project just how interested in him we are.

Not signing him purely to avoid the second apron would be criminally wasting Jokic’s prime. I think what we are trying to avoid is just signing him to something way above his market value because we might need to move him next year.

Can someone explain to me what’s the plan if we let him go for nothing? We get some flexibility, I get that, but what can we even do to improve roster? How much money are we working with in that case? Can we sign free agent etc. For me it’s crucial that we keep him. Second apron or not we are not making significant moves this off season. Why not keep really important guy that we can’t replace? We can even trade him after few years, he will always be desirable player.

Not going into the apron for KCP would be mismanagement plain and simple. We’ve wasted enough of Jokic’s best years. Any more empty playoff runs is straight terrorism.

We should 100% just say screw it and go into the second apron like the Celtics said they’re prepared to do. Our best chance at winning another championship is retaining the core of this roster.
