Giddey Outlook

I’m sure everyone is sick of talking about Giddey but I am the only who is actually optimistic about this? Look at the comparison vs Barnes who just got a massive rookie match and by all accounts is the cornerstone for the Raptors going forward. Giddey averages less minutes too fwiw.

We are upset we didn’t get picks back in return but how high would Giddey go in this years draft if he was putting up those numbers in Australia? This draft is bad according to every expert.

Obviously this all depends what the rest of the roster shakes out into the next couple months. I see upside.

The only thing they have in common is playmaking everything else Scottie is better at lmao

I just wanna hear Stacey King call him Timothée Chalamet

I think comparing counting stats for different players on different teams and thinking it shows anything of significance is a mistake. They have different roles, on teams of different quality, playing different styles. There is not much to be learned from an exercise like this. As an example, go compare Michael Adams and Tim Hardaway in 90-91, and then look at the rest of their careers.

And I will point out that the best stat on there (in terms of what it tells you about a player’s contribution to winning) is BPM where Barnes doubles Giddey up.

Watch both play and it will be very clear what the difference is between them in terms of both what they can do now and what their potential is. I think Barnes is better now and has significantly more upside.

I am not saying I am against the trade. I think the trade was fine and people who thought we were getting a recent lottery pick plus future draft picks were unrealistic given that Caruso is going to be a bench role player for OKC.

We all gotta just wait and see what it’s like. We’re trying to speculate and this team might not even be recognizable come game 1. It’s possible nearly every vet is gone.

Giddy is a minus defender and Barnes can switch 1-5. If giddy was an elite defender like Barnes he’d be compared to the good Ben Simmons years. But he’s not. So he’s a minus defensively and sagged off on offense because of his shot.

This is like comparing Klay and Lavine in their primes. One side of the ball is wildly different.

Scottie is better at everything, and still has a long way to go before he hits his ceiling. Not to mention the ability to guard 1-5 effectively. I don’t think Giddy is even close by comparison.

This is comparing career numbers but Barnes took a massive leap last season while Giddey stagnated. Barnes is currently a much better player. Giddey’s a year younger and maybe he will catch up but this comparison is pretty misleading.

Okc fan here. It’s never been about Josh’s production when it comes to raw stats. He’s improved every year on a per min basis.

It’ll be more so can he actually impact winning enough to justify his next contract? He’s going to compare his numbers to the Jaden Mcfaniels contract and laugh at that number… not to mention the cap going up. I also expect him to put up really good numbers in Chicago, winning or no winning. So 25-35 over 5 years? That’ll look better on the 4th and 5th year, but it’s just a lot up front. Wishing the best for y’all and him
