but who knows the way this thing is going to plan play out because no one is even super confident of who is going to be the first pick in the NBA draft or whether or not the first pick will be for the Atlanta Hawks we will get to all of that Dev Walker is going to check in with us from the site of the draft Brooklyn New York Jessica Benson from the Jessica Benson show is going to be here with us Greenberg on ESPN saying he viewed Mo Boma as a hybrid of Anthony Davis and Joel embiid and once I posted that then people inevitably start sending me the other ones I got a Dalton connect is comp is Josh Hart even though Josh Hart can defend literally five positions on the court and D connect might not be able to guard one position on the court I got a my favorite one that I have gotten this morning and you want to talk about a deep cut Alexi shed compared to Penny Hardaway our own beloved Memphis basketball coach Penny Hardway let the comps flow I’ve got opinions on all these different draft picks who knows what the Grizzlies or any of these teams are going to be doing tonight we also had a massive trade in the NBA last night with the New York Knicks putting together the old have not been that excited you know we’ve Devon and I both talked we don’t not like I really care to see rookies play for us next year so oh I was listening to everything I have I have oh I’ve got opinions I have burned my a hole in my brain between reading and listening to podcast and people pontificate about the NBA draft oh and I’m going to tell you in a minute I’m going to tell you my last one that got me real Juiced up an opinion that I heard or a statement rather that I heard that I was like well before I get to that Devin Walker is in Brooklyn New York he is the microphone Mangler he is Senor quidilla he’s Mr math he’s najo the reporter the photographer he what up y’all Brooklyn stand up you know what I’m saying I’m actually in the middle of Manhattan bro oh yeah so you’ve got to go across town yeah we’re got I gotta tell I gotta catch the train in about an hour we’re gonna catch the train and go over to Brooklyn about an hour about 2:15 because we got to do a walk through first okay so you were you got there yesterday did you just around town in New York and then the NBA world you know I always say that I love being in New York cuz it feels like all the news is happening like the like you know it feels like you’re in the middle of everything and then oddly enough you really were in the middle of everything as the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks make a massive trade the night before the draft could you could you sense that that had happened being in the town was it any different than if you were in Memphis and you would have heard the news yeah bro I was so I was at a party last night when it happened and so when it happened you see everybody in the party like start looking at each other and they start doing this they look up and they’re like yo and so the it starts the conversation so like you can tell when when the moment happened bro it it just like that whatever conversation people were having before Detroit happened it changed immediately where I was last night I was say say list by the way was it all uh NBA type people uh yeah like NBA type people people influencer type people uh I met you remember shiggy bro you remember the Kiki oh yeah I met him last night at this party shy yeah shiggy was there uh Kendrick Perkins I saw him uh I saw Mayo last night Mayo all the above Mayo all the above all the above I I used to have that song on my running playlist and it was one of our intros us it on the show yeah yeah was in the spot last night uh looks like how do you remember what he looks like I was going to ask you what happened to Mayo but you saw like hey look he was that bro he is like 5 foot three though bro he a little dude is that right I’m gonna say you did not know it was Mayo somebody told you that was Mayo right usually okay so usually at these parties when people walk in the door and you see like 18 photographers just like snapping photos you’re like okay that’s somebody that’s important then I kind of like saw the his face and I was like oh [ __ ] that’s Mayo hold on there were 18 photographers taking pictures of M he hired them no way I I I I deny this from New York bro huh from New York I think oh okay all right yeah he was in there uh it was pretty cool it was super chill it was uh this uh I think this promotion called Aces I think Pro put it on it was super it was super chill okay so any obviously that trade resonated right where you were everybody everybody was like talking about as soon as it happened all right well let me let me let me do this before I get into the draft stuff regarding the trade last year I told you that I was pulled aside by some very influential uh NBA news Breakers while we were at the at allar weekend and I was pulled aside and said individual said to me your guy tried and I said what he goes your guy tried and I was like like who and he’s like kimman and I was like oh yeah and he’s like bro he’s like he was on the phone with Shawn marks late into the night after all that stuff happened and he’s like and I’m not sure if it got to six picks he’s like but I’m for certain it got to five he’s like he was he was all in on trying to get Bridges to Memphis and I was like oh and so that’s always been in the back of my head that maybe they would take a run at it also that there was like whether you want to say it was four first rounders five first rounders six you know at some point it’s like I want this to happen I think this is the key I think this is our fourth piece and you you guys we look is it an overpay sure did the Knicks overpay sure but if you have a conviction about that being something that you think can take you over the top and help you achieve your goals and you think that that is a missing piece to what you’ve got going then you stop caring about right it’s kind of like I’ll uh I I’ll give you for instance right so like I had really wanted this house uh truthfully my whole family wanted it right and so I at the time I didn’t end up giving the guy more but I I just gave them their listing price I I just I what am I going to do am I going to offer the guy 10 thou 10,000 $20,000 less and then over the course of 30 years and then I and then what then I don’t get the house right at some point you’re like I want this so badly I’m willing to do what it the price yeah what it takes to get this I want this to be over with and so if you if you have a conviction and you say look this can be a part of this this can be something that we can have for the next five years this is something that fits perfectly with what we’ve got I totally understood coveting Mel Bridges within the context of having John Morant Desmond Bane and Jared Jackson Jr right as a missing piece I totally understand why they CET having Mel Bridges because of the instant chemistry that all of those guys have the fact that he you know if we say the best if anybody believes in that the best ability is availability he never misses basketball games yeah and he’s an outstanding player as a highlevel role player okay and if you’ve got the guy that you think could take the last shot in the game and you’ve got your all NBA player and you may have two of them because everybody conveniently forgets that Julius Randall wasn’t part of that whether they keep him or not the guy was an all-nba player literally a year ago and they didn’t have him either okay and so if you think like this is a piece that fits you know that we’re going to have great chemistry because all these guys are like Band of Brothers and if it’s an overpay it’s an overpay but we desperately covet this and somebody you know tweeted me last night and they’re like where’s that Rudy goar overpay energy well the point with Rudy goar is I thought it was an overpay and I I didn’t like the fit yeah and you could say well look it worked out they got to the West finals this year and I would say okay but you were able to the reason I didn’t like the fit is because I thought it was I thought that they were super dangerous with towns playing Five against us and they already had NZ Reed and I like both of those guys and I thought that that you are you are now going to be spending a fortune on this team and you’ve got to win within the next couple of years and you’ve got a 21y old star and it’s just not on that same timeline whereas I like the fit better and I like the timeline better for both what the Grizzlies with their possible overpay for Bridges a year ago or the Knicks and their true overpay and I also a Bridges fan you know what I mean I think and and I think that I think the Knicks are going to be absolutely awesome now the great thing for us that came out of that is that this according to Ian Begley is GNA make hartenstein available yes yeah yeah so now this does this does come into play in terms of where are you wanting to spend your assets there have been a bunch of rumors that have come out about the grizzly possibly wanting to get up to take Donovan kingan which makes all the sense in the world to most people right if you think kingan is going to be an extremely good NBA big then he’s 7 foot two he’s got this freakish wingspan he uh he was just on this great team and he is the exact archetype of what we have talked about wanting he you know what I mean like maybe he is going to be better than an Isaiah harste cuz he seven he’s 7 foot2 right and and let me tell you I’m on the way in this morning and I go back and I listen to a podcast that Ryan rillo did with Dan Hurley talking about the Yukon kids and obviously Dan Hurley is going to be a tremendous promoter of those guys uh but when he was talking about kinging and he was talking about everything he brings to the table and then he was saying what is the feedback you have gotten from teams and Devin this is for your purposes in the case that he ends up in a Grizzly’s uniform some way somehow he said every one of them say they are sad to see him leave town because the kid has this incredible Charisma and all of these things all the these things he was describing were not common of a seven-footer right they’re usually big goofies right um and they’re all sometimes they don’t really love basketball sometimes they’re Silent Bob sometimes they whatever right but he’s like he’s got a big personality and everybody like everybody loves him and he’s said and the second thing is this he’s like let me tell you Ryan if he was on your baseball team you would put him at shortstop or you would put him at center field and if you whizzed a football at him he would catch it like a wide receiver and he’d throw it back to you like a quarterback he said this kid is an athlete now and I was like oh my God don’t make me drive off the road don’t make me drive off the road Dan Hurley he was making me fall in love with Donovan Clingan and I know for your purposes Devin oh my God if it did come to pass and you and some way somehow they made a trade and they move up a couple spots and they are getting donovic kinging I know you’ve got you love hearing big Charisma big personality because those are exactly the kind of guys that are perfect for your benefit I got this for a reason huh perfect thing to capture big personality so yeah I love that bro you got you talking me into it I’m getting excited now you just always own fun guys yeah you want guys that like you hear that about right and the other thing the athlete thing and that sounds like a small thing but how many seven Footers can you whiz a football at and it doesn’t look weird like hit him off the forehead or something yeah right that’s how it feels right and he’s like no this guy he was like he would play shortstop and I’m like shortstop like he’s like that Yukon team and I do think that this is instructive when we’re talking about the Villanova team you know I thought about this last night you will remember Roser through the years we have had uh Alan Boston on our show and it’s always been burned in my mind that year he came on the beginning of the tournament this is the this is the greatest year of Alan Boston’s career on this show and before the tournament ever started he said I have Villanova rated higher than any college basketball team I have ever rated in over 30 years of handicapping and we were like what what are you and they mowed down everyone everyone killed them yes killed them and we were like oh my God Allan Boston had this thing P dead to rights and you know who he said this past year Yukon yeah he said Yukon is the only team he goes I couldn’t go any higher he goes I went higher than the old Villanova team and what’ they do everyone yes and guess what’s happened this is all I’m going to say about this stuff with the whole castle and clinging and whatever there was no way I couldn’t get my head around last night and watching those Villanova guys get to come together and knowing how amazing they were in college and that they they did not win and were an accomplished team they destroyed everyone like they were an NBA team playing in college and it’s it’s like are we all going to look up and like oh yeah surprise Jaylen Brunson Mel Bridges and Dante dento are all outstanding in the NBA right are we going to look up and be like Oh surprise Donovan Clingan and Stefon Castle cuz the Hawkins kid looked awesome last year in the short amount of time he got to play he got buried on that Pelicans team if he’s on any other team he plays yes didn’t he have like 30 against us Jordan Hawkins I think he did he has a clip he can shoot the pill out the ball and it’s like are we going to look back and be like Oh surprise surprise these Yukon kids are awesome like that would not be a shock yeah it wouldn’t be a shock because look we’re all these years later and it’s like Oh you mean the pieces of an alltime great team turned out to be awesome surprise I mean they were an alltime great team they weren’t like okay they weren’t like your average National Champion they were like remember during the tournament it’d be like 60 to 25 at half time or something like what is going on he scored 31 against Denver Denver yeah he didn’t do anything against us oh he didn’t do anything played one game against us okay okay I forgive me is that right yeah he only played one game against us oh I’m looking at his all right we lost Devon I’m looking at his uh yeah I’m looking at his game log he had 34 against Dallas oh yeah 34 against Dallas he had 21 against Charlotte he had some games in here 25 against Utah yeah he had some games I got you another 25 against Dallas he killed Dallas yeah was when I think McCollum was out right for a while when he was getting his opportunity but anyway he looked good in his short amount of time playing he looks like a hit he looks like a draft hit right um and so there is part of me that you know obviously I don’t know I I’ve told you where I kind of stand on this I I have no idea on Reay and I have no idea on SAR I just don’t I I I don’t know I there there are there are people that I respect that don’t like uh one of them there’s people I respect that don’t like either of them there’s people I respect that love one of them and so I just like like I read this morning uh guess who likes Ray as a prospect who my guy David Thorp oh who’s super smart guy yeah he is he’s a super smart guy and uh I think very good at Talent evaluation and so I’m just so torn on it I just don’t know what to think about um I I don’t I don’t know what I I don’t know what to think about having Zachary ree as the number one pick I am well aware that that’s what everybody says is going to happen that is where the Vegas odds are and I I can only tell you that for me in this particular one there’s not enough unanimous conviction on him and SAR for me to not want to play it safe and so you go down the list and like of the guys that I am confident in like if I were going to have my these guys will not suck like guys that I think are going to have real careers and maybe their level becomes like really high maybe they become a very high level player in the NBA maybe they could become an All-Star one day whatever um there’s more than I actually thought right when I look back at it because you know I am looking for what do you do and do I think it’s going to be able to translate and then also there may be some exua circumstances where I look at a situ and even if I think you do have something that brings that you bring to the table that’s going to translate there’s also these other factors that I’ve talked about so many times over the years where you know the high school ranking thing is always something I have paid attention to where you were compared to your peers before whatever because we if there is never there’s never been a better example of this than what we just experience with GG Jackson that if you would have overlooked a year yeah you would have gotten a player yeah and instead he makes it all the way to 45th yeah in the NBA draft and it’s like oh God he was always supposed to be the best player yeah in that class um that’s what everybody said everybody said everybody was in agreement right those are those end up being consensus rankings and so there’s that and then the other thing and I’ve talked to you about this like you go through it like just take the freaking Kentucky guards yeah like what are your chances it doesn’t hit it’s rare and most of them turn out to be infinitely better than where they are drafted whether it’s Tyler herro whether it’s Emanuel quickley whether it’s Tyrese Maxi whether it’s Shay gilis Alexander whether it’s kasan Wallace it’s every year yeah if you want to say that there’s one thing that Cal Perry Nails it’s the guards and you can go all the way back to Denver Devon Booker now you can find the homad do all and the uh you know Tyler Ulus but those those are the extreme Rarities yeah over and over again the guys are underrating it happens all the time you could even argue bledo was even underd drafted he was he was when it was going on uh but they all end up being good except for like one or two of them um so then there’s that there’s that right clinging I mean dude if you set screens you’re 7 foot2 you’ve got a crazy ass wingspan you rebound a block shots you’ve got a place in the and you’re a good athlete you got place in the NBA I feel safe yes Shephard the shooting and Kentucky guard yes bazis I I’m torn on because I love the ranking before he went and played for the ignite and it’s not like he’s bad for the ignite and I’ve always like so he’s on the outside looking in for me I wouldn’t be 100% confident that I’m getting somebody that’s going to be a rotation guy in my in and have a career on the other hand I do think his upside is like I can never get out of my head that I went down to South Haven spefic specifically to watch Ron Holland and Bellis Holland had the the thumb injury so I didn’t get to see him and I went in order to poke hes in bazis and say that he’s a bum and I left the arena liking him yeah yeah that’s tough It’s hard to play in that league as an 18-year-old bro it is I don’t think people understand and Deon you’ve been down to a lot of hustle games as well like it means something to me if you can perform amongst the the group of guys down there because they’re all fighting to become NBA players and the talent level is so much better it’s a lot of grown than it was three years ago it is I saw the interview he did yesterday with uh Shams when he was talking crazy and you gotta be that kind of like you got to have that kind of level of confidence bro to be on to play on the NBA level you see the interview he did he was talking about uh rester whatever his name is oh yeah re he he was like yo I’m better than him kind of thing he’s like no yeah he like no offense but uh I think I’m pretty sure I’m better than him yeah so I would never I would never uh bang on anyone for taking uh buellis on on the other hand um obviously because I saw him in person I have more confidence in him but kingan Shephard bazel Castle I just gave you the case right I’d take Castle in a heartbe like I mean he’s a festar guy that played on an awesome team and and showed as a freshman that he can play Within that team system and how they move the ball share cut move yeah yeah you can you can fix the jump shot on the NBA level too you can fix a jump shot easily you can uh don’t connect I told you like I have questions about like I there are people that are super high on him there’s people that aren’t as high on him um he’s old yeah he’s old and it’s like again it’s what can you do besides score I’m just telling you I have a question mark about he could hoop jacobe Walter I don’t know I’m so torn um the Zack Edy thing like I am now he is easily the most interesting guy in this draft he absolutely is he really is because there are so many totally different opinions about Zack Edy and one thing that so for and I’m I’m going give you an instance I have always been one that is questioned there are some people that have a conviction of what he’s going to be in the NBA there’s me who goes why didn’t everybody like him a year ago uh don’t tell me that he has gotten infinitely better within a year’s time when you didn’t want to draft him and are you going to throw him the ball in the post or is that what you’re going to do do thr the ball in the post no no chance and is he going to just get put into literally every pick and roll Under the Sun on the other hand I get it he’s 74 and he he was awesome in college there’s no way around it and so then I start to convince myself the other way I’m like you know what this guy’s GNA have a place in the league maybe he’s not a starter maybe he’s not a high Lev starter but he’s going to be a guy that can at least give you 15 minutes in the league and maybe flip games for you right um you know maybe the floor is en caner or something who was a very valuable player right but also unplayable in the playoffs right right um and then I was reading Hollinger thing and you go down and um he was like it is beyond alarming that the guy never got steals ever no deflex no nothing no like he just did not like it was like a steal every hundred minutes or something crazy like that and he and then he has this line I love that holler’s back writing again sometimes because he slips in lines that just make me laugh but he’s not necessary he’s just saying things matter of fact that he’s not trying to be funny but it but he knows he’s got that dryness to him but he’s like and the other thing is drafting veteran College big men has been about like setting your money on fire and I was trying to think and you go back and it’s like there a lot of mistakes if you just go with like big guys that were awesome in College veterans that were vets like the hbor the Shawn Mays that who was the guy from Baylor remember the EPK OS the like all these like veteran big men old big men it’s it’s hard to think of like guys that were like senior big men that were taken that were good I’m not saying that they again that’s something from the 80s as well which is where he belongs in the 80s he belongs in the 80s wrong a basketball player for sure I just don’t know I I I mean can you remember somebody that was like I mean you can even go back to like the the Kirk haston Indiana and I mean was it meca was meca Oka for yeah he was a veteran guy he was he was yeah meca he won Ricky of the mean like you’re getting the gist that very rarely very rarely are you ever I don’t know if there is a center a starting center in the NBA that played a senior year of college let me see trying to think like just just go playoff teams you don’t gota go teams in the NBA just go like playoff teams no you there isn’t jar was a freshman J Jonathan Isaac was a freshman uh uh Miles Turner was a towards the guys that were amazing high school players Ron Holland thing yeah the Ron Holland thing it’s like okay everybody thought Isaiah CER was going to be awesome forever he played in all of those tournaments he was at you went to ebl to watch Isaiah CER yep you know what I mean and so surprise surprise Isaiah CER turns out good like I wouldn’t be he was always supposed to be good right and sometimes it doesn’t play out right sometimes it is ammani bait and it’s like okay and and and and the story for ammani is not completely written and maybe that will turn out to be a great steel story as well but I’m not so I’m not telling you and sometimes like you remember a couple years ago there was that uh the Duke kid Duval yeah he’s gone you know what I mean he’s like playing in a Canadian basketball league like it just doesn’t sometime and sometimes it’s Josh Selby and it doesn’t play out like there’s I’m not telling you they’re all hits I’m just saying if Isaiah caller ended up being good it’s not shocking to anybody watch right it’s like Cole Anthony that whole year you remember I was like just take Cole you know I was telling people that guy’s going to get drafted too low cuz I see where he is in these mocks and guess what if you redid that draft Cole goes higher yeah like he’s a good NBA player who’s going to make a lot of money and have a career yeah right just being yeah and if I say a corer turns out to be Cole Anthony that’s you nailed that pick especially in the second half of the first round in this draft yeah where he’s projected to go yeah right uh and then khil W who we’ve talked about right like if you’re taking a i i i there’s there’s so many ways you can go on this when you’re the Grizzlies and it’s like do we think they’re going to allocate their money and they’re going to try to bring in it are they going to do the Dallas thing and go young to fill that Center need or are they going to try to bolster up the other parts of their roster with uh or they don’t mind bringing in a young guy to another part of their roster but having a vet at at center right like if it kind of feels like to me that on the big front let’s just say the clinging stuff is true and they do want them and that seems to be the buzz if you can’t do it if the price is too high if somebody just takes them or you can’t get up to do it I wonder if you then just say you know what we’ll trade down we’re going to take a stab at khil we or or whatever right cuz that’s another need guy and then we’ve traded down now that we’re doing that and we’re going to go and we’re going to get our heart and Steen we’re going to get our Jared Allen we’re GNA get our Nick Claxton we’re gonna get whatever and then that’s kind of the Dallas model which is we drafted Lively but we got Gafford and now we’ve got two guys that because these bigs are always better playing 20 minutes yeah they’re always better your big is always better if you could have two of them that can each possibly get give you 25 minutes you’re in much better shape than if you’ve got one of them and you’re going to need two centers I know they have jiren I know they have Brandon but they’re going to need two guys that can play the center position on this team yes and so I kind of feel like if you can’t get up to get clinging you get down to get where that that’s my right anybody ask me that’s that’s what I say every time drive down get a young big and then get the old big on the on the free agent Market or sign and trade or get one some that that way and then I think if you are going perimeter I am in the favor of I don’t think another Wing you know I mean I know you said Ron Holland whatever I just I’ve always thought they’re going to go up or down if they’re doing a perimeter guy Shephard or Carter are the ones I would want no because I just think Carter is the dog whose Dad’s on staff and I’m confident that he’s going to be a eight-man rotation guy on a good team and I could throw him in the playoffs next year shephard I just think makes everybody better because of the shooting and I would love to see him get to run out there with GG Jackson Brandon Clark and Vince Williams on a second unit no my my I I said Holland when you’re saying at nine yeah Reacher’s not going to be there and I’m basing this off your buddy Kevin o Conor’s mck draft which has Devin Carter going one spot ahead of where we pick at number eight so I’m like of all those guys that are available I’m like okay if you’re going to stay there just take Holland I I think we’re all on the same page we would rather have wear than Edy yeah for sure sure like if I’m moving down yeah sure yeah yeah I W I won’t wear then give me another give me a veteran big to go with so then we have we have two bigs that can play two different styles of play so this is the Dallas model yeah exactly so they’ve got gaffard and Lively you’ve got Claxton and wear or whatever right exactly well because the other thing is too even if you get clinging you’re probably going to want to have somebody else as well right somebody else that could do something and so I think you’re kind of I don’t think the way like there’s just not there’s not the amount of minutes at at at at shooting guard right no and I I I just think your wings if you are expecting and and some of this is going to depend on what you’re doing with Canard but if you are keeping Marcus Smart and you are keeping Vince Williams and you’re keeping GG Jackson and you’re keeping Desmond Bane and you’re keeping right like I I don’t even know where Canard fits in the in the mix like he’s probably like to me you’re you’re finding somebody that could give me some minutes on the ball uh or you’re finding somebody that is grabbing me rebounds and blocking shots yeah I just don’t think those Wing positions is what you’re addressing in the draft no offense to all these guys I I mean I think that there there’s some of them that I think I I like the Ron Holland Jared McCain whatever like I mean I could talk myself into getting excited about them I just don’t know where they fit where are you playing minutes like I’m trying to get somebody that can help me next year and it’s like you’ve got to be like super talented or have like like in the Shephard case shoots a cover 52% from three is 52% from three bro like the guy can shoot and you get open shots when you play for Memphis so I think he’s a good fit clinging obvious and then you get down and I guess K we’s the other guy for me yeah like yes I could just see it fitting a need that’s a guy that you could see run in the pick and roll J throws it up and he just over everybody and the other thing is he was a McDonald’s All-American it’s it’s the Lively thing it really is he is he is so helped by Lively cuz guess what else huge questions about Lively huge he was not good at Duke no he was he got put in a good situation man he got put in a good situation and they they and then they turn around and they’re like oh wow he got and you know you know who talked about the situation he was put into Dev is uh is uh uh Rich Paul in that interview when he was talking about he he was talking about the same thing goes for all of our guys what we’re trying to find is the best fit for the player that’s it because we’re not as concerned about we’re we’re most concerned about where they fit and where they’re going to play play and the kind of opportunity and fit they have with these teams because and this is a smart way to think about it um what matter the second contracts are $200 million contracts yeah like if you’re able to fit and thrive in these roles and again no matter who they attain in the draft you are not going to be one of the top three shot takers on the team nope you’re GNA fit in bro so looking at role but guys are whoever you’re taking is playing a role and so I look at it and go what roles need to be filled I always want more perimeter Defenders and dogs that’s the Carter role I always want more Shooters that’s the Shephard role I always want guys that can rebound the ball and block shot and finish above the above the ramp and to me that’s clinging and wear I mean I think that honestly like it might be my list of guys right that I like is there anybody else that you guys would want I’m still not conv I don’t I’m not convinced that they’re going to get a big guy that they’re going to take a big guy though if they don’t take kingan if you were trading down though who are you what are you trying to get I may I mean maybe they take the kid from dupe the McCain kid like I I don’t think that what do he for us though I’m just say I’m just saying I don’t think it’s a given that you do take a big man because this is a need your your whole offseason is feeling needs you don’t have any holes I don’t know if they’re well they going to view it as that we’re feeling a need in the draft yes I don’t know if they I don’t know if Zach does it that way like I don’t know if he’s gonna view it that way why would you get Jared mlan if you got GG Jackson who’s who plays the same exact position he plays like I I don’t I just don’t I don’t think it’s a guarantee that you’re going to take a big guy there I don’t especially when you do ultimately we’re talking about Lively in this think it’s a big guy or another ball handler look at the team that just won the title they go five out like they go five out it’s not about just having a big man that’s why you have Jaren Jackson J that’s why you have Jen that’s I think Jen Daren plays in those situations if it’s five out Jaren can play those situation if you’re playing like a normal game you can play the the jiren the four whoever the rim Runner of the five and kimman has made it abundantly clear they are addressing the center position oh no I know I just don’t know if it if they can’t trade up for kingan I don’t know if they’re going to do it well the only other looking forward to in tonight’s draft I am with you I have gotten myself excited about this draft guess what I’m easily excitable so I’m going to figure out a way to get into it even if there is no unicorn pick or alien or wemi or whatever um but I think for us here in Memphis there’s common thought of like the Draft starts at three which is a little silly in nature because we don’t know who’s getting taken at one and it can very easily get chaotic really fast but for us to see what the Houston Rockets are doing like what’s going what’s going on with the rockets and especially coming after the pck with the Nets last night and are they really trying to dangle some bait out for a Kevin Durant Phoenix Suns trade is there something with shenon and those picks that could be tantalizing enough for the Suns or do they take Donovan kingan in that case and then they’d be more willing to move off of Alper and shenon there’s just so much to be determined with what Houston does that affects the Grizzlies because are the Grizzlies going to trade up to take Donovan clinging at three well and now how big if how how good does that asset look right as three because if I’m giving you three and shenon and four first round picks or whatever and giving you your picks back that you had lost to the Nets now look I have talked to I I have said this on the show where I’ve brought up the Kevin Durant thing and I’m like do not discard this completely just because I think if you are having honest discussions over in Phoenix you’re like how how are we getting better M and are we going to be better in min Ina and Denver and Memphis and Oklahoma City and like you can go on down the list and it’s like and we’re hard capped and it wasn’t good enough and yeah we brought in Mike buen holler but like like they don’t have that many ways outside of moving Kevin Durant to get they don’t have pics you’re right they don’t have pigs and they don’t have cap room and it’s like all they have right now on to okay like can KD Bradley be and Deon Booker be that’s right better us home next year and you don’t want to get rid of Deon Booker and you can’t get rid of Brad and that’s the thing with this too is like how much of this was simply because wo dropped Katie’s name as a little sprinkle in that tweet because to all we know Katie hasn’t requested a trade Booker certainly hasn’t requested a trade so now all these conversations are happening because of that and it feels the Rockets have been leaking a lot of St I think that’s what we’re learning I think what we’re learning is that the Rockets are very good at this yes I agree that the same thing goes for everything we’ve heard about the Grizzlies be it the Marcus Smart piece of it and just the clingy piece of it I’ll tell you this Kevin o’ Conor who I that uh the mismatch with has told me four times you are not trading Marcus Smart to get three no you’re not I could have told you that and it’s like but that obviously came from hey would it be enticing for the Grizzlies to move you because he wants him same see same energy I do not think Houston’s gonna draft three I don’t no I don’t think they’re gonna draft three here’s why shenon Jaylen green tar een cam Whitmore amen Thompson Jabari Smith I mean you got six guys in your first three years of your contract you’re developing all six and you’re going to add another one where where are you adding another one yeah to develop unless it’s Shephard and I know that’s where you know a lot of the mocks have him going and you just say all right he’s going to play behind van v but I don’t know man I mean seven seven guys at Young they want to win now over and over that’s all you heard every single story about the Rockets right now is well you know they want to win now they want to do this now this is about winning now then you got to even out that roster with more vets exactly and it feels very similar like all to what we experienced here in Memphis why did they go out and get Marcus Smart because you wanted vets you wanted older voices in a locker room and I know Dylan Brooks was added to that locker room last year and I’m not trying to disparage like that fit but adding even more is helpful for all those young guys and again you get to this point where you just have overload of young players who are really good and really promising but you can only have so many of those on one roster that’s right it’s just a fact of and they and you know and they’re guaranteeing these other contracts so they say they’re picking up the team option on J shant Tate who I’ve always been a fan of and then they’re going to pick up the I guess uh contracts of Jeff Green and jock landelle and and they’re doing that not because they want those guys necessarily on the roster but they want things that they comp pair together so I just don’t think I think that Houston is treating three like we would have treated three which is there’s not unless there is the obvious like in our case we might have just been take a clinging and be done with it right but unless there’s the obvious fit and they don’t really have an obvious hole there then I think that you’re using it to try to get better yeah you’re using it for the asset rather than for the player that you’re getting cuz are we adding another 19-year-old really you get to a point we did it I know and they said it was a mistake yeah and it was they just kept adding young players yeah they just kept doubling down on Youth and so then you looked up and it was like you’ve got freaking zier Williams and David Rody and Jake laravia and Vince Williams and like it’s like what are we doing yeah what are we doing like what it it it reminded me of the you’re just going to throw him in a room and see who comes out that’s how they said it years ago when we had like javar and Kyle Lowry and Mike Conley it’s like and then you don’t get value for the others effective cuz now they don’t have value it’s like now if you’re trying to shop around our guys like how many of them have value I actually think Houston’s done a pretty good job because I like all those guys there’s none of them I don’t like I like e I like Whitmore I like and that’s why if you’re Houston of course you want to win now because you recognize that you have enough of young legitimate talent and so you want to capitalize on it we know windows are windows close rather quickly as everybody is well aware so excited to see what happens at 3 as it pertains to the Grizzlies and then to get to 3 you have to start at 1 so number two is simply the nature of Viva La France this is a hot France summer because we have the Paris Olympics and we also have parisians taking over the NBA and maybe Parisian not correct because they’re from all around France I don’t want to just limit them to Paris but I was uh reading Mark Stein’s substack this morning and he pointed out that last year there were 14 Frenchmen on NBA rosters and by next season we could be up to 20 so this is a slow takeover and the fact that we could go last year having wemi duh number one pick this year you could have two Frenchmen be one and two with Reay and with Alex SAR and even just seeing what ends up happening with the Atlanta Hawks like are the Hawks using that number one pick does it get traded to San Antonio Where Do We Go From Here is Victor weany trying to make San Antonio little France in the USFA where he just creates this French super team and I think figuring out how much of a voice Victor web Yama if any like we don’t know I just listen to a bunch of I’m like you I’m not a draft expert but I sure listen to a lot of podcasts and read a lot of people who seem to know what they’re talking about the French thing is interesting the French thing is f because we’ve had busts yes we’ve had nilina recently we had Killian Hayes recently yeah both of them are not in the league I just he just uh got cut from the French national here’s uh Hollander had this uh in his article in the athletic on the draft it’s said and it was talking about the numbers that uh I believe it was Reay put up over in in France he said historically drafting players like this from France hasn’t ended well the two perimeter players in the last two decades who hit as Imports now this is crazy we’re Evan fornier and Nicholas Batum both of them had much more impressive numbers in their pre-draft Seasons the ones who didn’t the Frank Nas and seu zambas were overdrafted based on Seasons a bit worse than the one ree is having but R’s statistical profile it’s much closer to those guys than to Batum and fornier wow that’s a number one pick yeah yeah I was like damn and it is crazy do you think about it it’s all bigs you mentioned the Fran B kbal we we’re the jury’s out right he just very young and but you think about it can you think of any of them besides fornier and Batum that have like ball in their hand like yes perimeter players no they’re all big guys they’re all bigs Michael Patric I I mean just that’s forever ago a super average player RP kilan Tilly I’m trying to look at some R Bo I’m looking at all the guys it’s kind of wild isn’t it yeah he didn’t die he’s just but I mean the Reet thing when he’s like bringing up the statistical Pro I’m like this guy is supposed to go number one in the draft so did you see Timothy leahu uh that guy he was good T Mal ta madon not good um yeah these are all was that Usman jamee France was he French he is French yeah he is he hadn’t done [ __ ] no he’s playing in i s he was with the he was with their g-league team this year hasn’t done mared come on mared he hasn’t done mared I think it’s really did you see Seth Davis’s tweet by any chance obviously Seth Davis like big college basketball he said there’s a better chance than people realized that Stefan Castle goes number one tonight which I thought was just fascinating and from a hawk standpoint like trading with the spur sure and they’ve been linked to taking Stefan castle at four or what if the Hawks are just totally moving on from both of their guards and Trey and de jante and I I guess the odds have gotten way I it’s 15 to one now oh which is insane I don’t know I it said odds went to 75 to1 to 15 to1 in a few days on Castle yeah wow so well it also might mean that that’s not the Hawks exactly yeah and that’s where the Spurs come back end up but would they have to trade up to one to take Stefan Castle I don’t think so I don’t know exciting times well also are you willing to give up four and eight yeah or four and yes whatever have a player who is taken way higher than anybody anticipates earlier in the draft is there a player I’ll start with you is there any player that you think is going to go higher than their projection that you’ve come across and I know you’ve talked about a couple of them like Devon Carter could be an example for one of those guys uh I think the Carter Buzz has been so much that like he may very well have a top 10 promise but he’s already there yeah oh probably Holland Holland yeah if he moved any further yes he was the number one player so in a in a draft of which everybody’s like I don’t really know yeah and the other thing is I could have seen somebody brought him in and had a workout if it’s really the motor and they’re like dude it’s 100% the Pistons right well and that’s but that’s apparently the thing with Bal is too is anytime you bring him in for a workout he’s incredible oh yeah B but he’s supposed to go in the top five so I mean of the guys that are I’m looking at this thing and going uh yeah I think I think I would say Holland of the ones that go higher than what they are projected right now where does the one that you’re looking at have Nicola topic topic is on this one this he’s 10 on this this is ESPN’s this is ESPN’s best available okay so on the best available topic is 10 Cody Williams 11 Carter 12 Holland’s 13 so if I’m just going off of that do I think uh this player will go if I’m trying to find a guy on here that I think is going to go higher than what they are on this list he would be my he would be my one that I would say if if there’s somebody there that goes five spots higher right than what they are project what they are on this list I think he’s the most likely candidate okay cuz he was supposed to go number one him and B B is still in the top five that’s how I feel about topic not number one but top five and then obviously he so it’s a it’s a stash project like he’s not going to play next season coming back from an ACL also Serbian not French so you don’t have the worries country also sounds like Nicol leic but it’s not him so you can’t fool yourself um but just from a standpoint of like going back and watching his highlights because I listen to quite a few people who just were so high on him like someone who could be NBA ready right now and especially given how he played but on both sides of the ball at the professional level and ser like so rarely do those guys not come into the NBA a certain level or a certain degree of being NBA ready and so if somebody is willing to like when that story came out yesterday or the report that the heat could be looking at nine for the Grizzlies to trade up I just my head was like does Pat Riley really like these highlights of nicoa topic for for a later option I whole contract thing and whatever right right if you draft him in the first round you’ve got him for four years he has to if he’s going to play with this kid he has to play for you I see that that’s the thing so I’m with you no so I’m looking at these teams like do you think they may have a talented you can just say I’m not playing for you or I’m doing my two years or whatever do you think if New Orleans took him at 21 like LeBron I I don’t care if they have LeBron James does not want to go play basketball in New Orleans I agree like he does not he also doesn’t want to come to Memphis no he five and that includes the number nine Pick O I am unsurprised completely never I’ve never believe they will take a ninth the ninth player in the draft no I will be most surprised if they take the ninth player there’s no chance that is they’re moving up or they’re moving down they’re either not going to be able to get done what they want to get done by moving up which is take clinging her biggest case in Massachusetts in many many years um she goes out uh one night with her boyfriend John O’Keefe he was a cop and they’re out at a bar with a bunch of friends they go back to a friend’s house for a party uh John O gets out of the car goes inside to this party whatever there’s conflicting stories on that whatever she ends up leaving the party and she goes home okay the next morning she is awakened and John O’Keefe has never come back home she goes back over there and John O’Keefe is dead in the in the uh driveway snowbank they have said that she hit him backed over him in the car and so she has been accused of second deegree murder and none of it adds up none of it and I do not believe for one second she did this because of the injuries that the guy had it was like dog bites dog scratches lacerations on his arm black eyes like he clearly got his ass beat and left out in the cold somebody in the house Googled how long does it take to die in the cold so that’s the Smoking Gun all but but here’s oh here’s and and then I’m going to make this story even crazier most of the people that were hanging out at this house are all cops yeah the cop and then the people that investigated are all friends with the people that were at this house lead investigator declared no conflict of interest despite being friends with every single person involved it’s like a 30 person um like guess Who board you see all of these connections between families and friends and former cops and all part of the same force and like when you talk about the the evidence that at at best was just mismanaged they collected blood in red Solo cups they used a leaf blower to try to blow around the snow and get stuff and they claimed the prosecution found all of these shards of this headlight or a tail light is one of the big like this is why she did it she’s missing a tail light on her car however um no one found any pieces of the tail light the day of and the scene was never secured so suddenly over the next couple weeks like 35 pieces of this tail light are being found scattered about there’s video footage missing from the neighbors ring Cam that conveniently worked when they discovered the body the next morning but was off at the time of bro they got rid of the dog they got rid of the house and they all got rid of their phone what are we doing here I don’t even need to know anything else this should be thrown out immed immediately this just be like yeah this what the jury entered deliberation yesterday and I honestly am a little surprised that we haven’t had how bro a verdict yeah but they also like all I would need to know is that everybody involved in this where is the dog the dog’s gone where’s the house the house is sold where is uh where was the car the car was actually at our place actually one of the guys involved in the case doesn’t even work at the police department and the day that mattered the most clocked in at the police department and was there the entire day like what are you doing there’s on video he he’s except for the 40 minutes of video that’s missing from that segment he get this he learned how to extract from his phone text messages between him and Karen Reed okay so he did that and then they said where’s the rest of them he had a very a very cultivated sampling of them and they said where are the rest of it he goes that phone’s gone yeah so he printed off text messages he wanted them to see yes and then and they were like well where is it he said I took the basically the SIM card is in one dumpster and the phone is in another dumpster why and by the way both guys involved in this got rid of their phones the day before the police said do not get rid of your phones so they gave him a heads up and there was a call between those two people people that they claim was a butt dial in the middle of the night the night of the murder oh it was a butt dial I literally take away all the other stuff I will never get over the woman who Googled how long does it take to die in the snow and then deleted the search and then claims the prosecution says it was a glitch and that it could have been she Googled it in the morning and like the time stamp got mixed up but the defenses technology expert was like no that doesn’t happen at 2:37 a.m. this woman how long does it take to die I mean come on how do you get past this but anyway this has been something I started following it a couple weeks ago it’s been going on it’s a nine week trial since how far down the Wormhole are you pretty far do you know Turtle Boy of course I know turtle boy turtle boy is a blogger he’s in jail oh yes because he would he harassing Witnesses yes he would show up to like these people’s kids football games and be like why are you getting car yeah turtle boy turtle boy don’t play they were accused one of the jurors yesterday oh they did like right in the midst of this going into deliberation jur number three is no longer a part of the conversation and we don’t know why ex probably K’s sister or it’s probably what’s it called Jon o Sype towards Karen re like the Assumption was like she was making too big of facial I don’t know okay as she’s learning new things it was clearly that she was sympathetic to there’s no way she can be found guilty if she is is I don’t know what’s going to happen like my Tik Tok now is oh no it’s free car bro you you look up one thing in the algorithm hops on and I don’t really get into this kind of Stu I’m not a true crime person I hate True Crime podcasts outside of the big ones right like I did all the serials yeah this feels like that are the other cereals good I liked the second I only did the first one the Adon one yeah the other one’s good the second one was good I remember listening I actually listened to it on my drive to Memphis when I was moving here and I remember it being man I love death I oh yeah that was a big one yeah Memphis guy yeah but usually I just wait for these to be documentaries yeah that I watch whatever ones are considered good and originally with this case I didn’t want to Deep dive it because I like oh this would be great when the documentary comes out but in the end want to be a part convers no oh dude is that a new one you got to watch perfect wi oh that’s I saw that yes I was on Hulu watching it’s awesome three episodes amazing amazing
