I love PJ but let’s be real, OG plays elite defense. PJ is one of the best defenders in the team but relative to the league he can’t come close to OG. Plus on offense OG is significantly more efficient meanwhile teams in the playoffs are ecstatic if PJ is shooting wide open elbow 3s.
When it comes to salaries, marginal upgrades get more and more costly the higher up the talent ladder you go, the diminishing returns get worse.

I don’t know anything about how contracts work and all that but why is it that teams like the Knicks, Boston, etc afford so many huge contracts but the Mavs can’t? Every year for as long as I can remember the story is always the same. We can have 2 maayyybbbeee 3 big contracts and then we have peanuts left to build a roster. What are these other teams doing differently?

I mean they have some great contracts on the books. They can afford to open up the purses a bit for OG. If you frame it that they’re paying Brunson, Mikal, and OG a collective $92M/year, that looks like a pretty great deal.

Knicks are going all in which is good for them. For me, OG is better but I am perfectly fine with a lesser version in PJ. Especially for that cost.
