commissioner Adam [Music] Silver with the second pick in the 2024 NBA draft the Washington Wizards select Alex sar from toou France overtime Elite and Australia’s per Wildcats of the NBL Alex SAR the 19-year-old Frenchman who helped France actually win a silver medal at the 2023 FBA u9 World Cup as Jay mentioned he’s been a pro since he was 14 years old when he was with Real Madrid he spent two seasons of course with the overtime Elite and a year with Perth his brother Olivier SAR plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder you see him sharing this moment with his family and Alex told me that he was really most looking forward to sharing this draft this moment with Olivier but SAR certainly has Andrea one of the more unique paths to the NBA absolutely I mean he has played internationally he has so much experience you have to think he’s drawing from his older brothers experience as well with Olivier being in the NBA like you said the thing about Alex SAR he can light a fire under the Washington Wizards defensively it’s the first thing he mentioned at the NBA Combine to Christine Williamson when she talked to him he said my defensive versatility my passion on that side the Washington Wizards can lean into that and his ceiling is high let’s bring back Jonathan gavone to learn a little bit more hey Jonathan hey Malika alexar is the type of unicorn big man every team covets in the modern NBA with his ability to protect the rim and space the floor 7 foot one with length mobility and explosiveness in Spades he led the Australian NBL and block percentage but he can do more than that with the way he covers ground hedging ball screens switching on the perimeter and operating out of drops he’s not a finished product offensive by any means but the flashes he showed pushing off the defensive glass passing out of short rows finishing skillfully out of pick and roll and even stepping outside and making 22 three-pointers this season gives him quite a bit of upside to tap into on that end of the floor as he gets stronger and tougher and improves his feel for the game SARS Camp honed in on Washington from very early on in this process with general manager Will Dawkins telling Associates he sees shades of Chad hren in alexar a player he had a role in drafting in Oklahoma City I see a little more chrisop porzingis here Malika it’s two for two now the French Revolution continues in the NBA and your miles are all the way up Jonathan you were traveling the globe seeing Alex sar’s Journey because as we mentioned we haven’t really seen one quite like this he was born in Bordeaux France he started playing basketball at the age of four years old Rich were you playing at four no but Little Richard was Little Richard playing there Real Madrid he played for from 2019 to 2021 and then the overtime Elite from 2021 to 2023 Zoom there we go and then after that the Perth wild cats in Australia from 2023 to 2024 you didn’t like my zoom go Zoom no I don’t know if that’s a what’s noise to planes make I guess I shouldn’t be making one otherwise otherwise you’re in a little bit of trouble but and R Jonathan gabone mentioned the French Revolution it’s the first time since 2003 the top two picks in the draft didn’t go to college [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]
