The Toronto Raptors got their groove back…

welcome to P basketball live this is going to be a fairly condensed look at the Toronto Raptors entire draft including their trades um an NBA team is usually like what 15 16 people the Raptors just added six new players and a lot of people have a lot of questions about who these players are uh for the Toronto Raptors and I don’t expect uh you to dig through a sixh hour five hour stream especially since YouTube decided to take it down because I played some Sasha ven of Euro League highlights those highlights are in the process of being turned out so you’ll definitely be able to see my reaction to Jamal shed and the terrible you know oh my God we should have picked someone else we should have picked Kevin mcculler but as instant reactions go I’m not a fan uh I realize that this um you know that we do live streams for the community in general so that y’all can have a place to congregate that you can talk to each other but honestly I wish they didn’t exist I wish I had 5 to 10 minutes before every single pick to react to it but the truth is we don’t have that and so we live in an in an age of instant um Manish saying rob seems pretty energetic I got my ice cream man I got my ice cream that’s that’s why I’m energetic right now I got my ice cream and I got my water and I’m good look I’m here to condense this down into a 30 minute if anyone wakes up tomorrow or is up tonight and like yo I wonder what he thinks of these players I want to break it down very quickly I have a video that is going to kind of demonstrate my my grades for each player and we’re going to talk about it okay so with the 19th pick despite my many protests for Eve Mei the Toronto Raptors knowing better as they do uh decided to go with jobi Walter now I’ve made my I’ve made my uh take on this very clear and no amount of sleep has clarified how I feel about this it has not adjusted how I feel about this I believe the Raptors have swung on upside with a very smooth shooter with a very promising wingspan uh who has a very shaky handle and is a pretty incomplete Defender he has defensive versatility he has the potential to guard maybe 1 two three down the line his point of attack defense is not great um some of his off ball Awareness stuff defensively wasn’t great but he has the frame to eventually become a very good Team Defender and I suspect that if he’s going to hang in the NBA especially if he’s going to thrive in the NBA he’s going to have to make his calling card on defense offensively I have mentioned it before he reminds me a lot of guys like Reggie Bullock he reminds me of Tim Hardway Jr he is really a bucket getter in terms of you know one dribble pullup one dribble off the move coming off a cut um coming off a pin down he’s going to thrive beautifully in Darko system he’s going to thrive beautifully off of Scotty Barnes we’ve already seen Scotty Barnes have success with players like this Scotty and Gary have always had good Synergy to me I know a lot of people are saying this is the end of Gary Trend this is the end of Gary Trent frankly I think the IG Gary Trent came a while ago this is definitely a replacement for it okay um PTR rx11 saying he’s like a mini OG could get there no he can’t but Rejoice because he’s not nearly as rigid as OG and while his handle is not great and especially going left I heard a lot of people say that he had some playmaking upside in high school I also saw that but he’s never been a primary initiator and at 6’4 and a half 65 you know 65 and a half inch shoes with 610 wingspan he’s going to be fairly sized as a guard right not going to be ever asked to guard really big wings hopefully not never going to be asked to guard a big big but hey you know this is what strength and development is for I think his biggest areas of improvement naturally are going to be strength you know strength and development we saw Grady needed to get stronger finishing in the paint we know Darko can do that for prospects he know we know that he is able to to uh improve that element of prospects we’re going to need to see a little bit more in between game we’re going to need to see more commitment defensively laterally I mean I don’t believe athletes are finish products at 19 years old and neither should you so there is some potential here that the Raptors definitely could have gotten a guy that a lot of people saw as a lottery Pick and earlier in the year I emplore you to use you know way back time machine or whatever thing you use to restore the internet to previous versions of itself there were people talking about him as a clear top five pick went back and watched some of his high school stuff I get why the the potential was so tantalizing it’s worth noting that when you look at his college stats they are a little bit misleading the first 13 games and then the final 17 18 19 games or so completely different situation um his efficiency fell off his defense fell off you’re going to see a lot of embarrassing blow buys point of attack defense snuffs um shots going short uh early on in the season he was finishing pretty well at The Rim just an FYI so to anyone who’s going to you know go with bad information and say oh well he never finishes well at The Rim he’s got a 610 wingspan he gets the line really well his numbers overall compare very well to keontay George although his game does not compare well to keay George For Better or For Worse Keon was a more on ball Creator he was more of a go get it off six seven eight dribbles type of guy and if y’all remember my take on ke George last year I was not a fan his efficiency shocked me unfortunately after the injury um this Baylor freshman didn’t have a much more efficient season but that’s probably a good thing too he did it on Lower efficiency he did it on almost equivalent uh metrics across the board he was the Freshman of the year I think he’s a really solid player it remains to be seen if E Mei ever becomes the type of player that I Envision him to be or if he or if he ends up more of a Clint capella type the best outcome the best version of um a jacobe Walter is probably better than the likely version of an eve Mei um so I certainly while I he was 16th on my board we picked him 19th I shouldn’t have been so quick to the the rush of annoyance it’s not nearly as um disastrous a pick as I as I felt it at at the moment um but yeah I think I think this is a solid pick works really well with Scotty I expect him to be you know really featured in summer league I think the Raptors are going to give him a lot of on ball reps to really shape out his game clearly they liked him they didn’t work him out they didn’t meet him but they like like him a lot of people think that you know uh he has a stoic somewhat demeanor U we listened during our live yesterday to a one I think it was like a 30-minute conversation with him he really opens up seems like a really good kid and that’s something I can say about literally every single person whether I like the player or I don’t like the player when you listen to their interviews there doesn’t seem to be a lot of ego there doesn’t seem to be a lot of primon ism there doesn’t seem to be a lot of me me me crap coming out of it the Raptors promised last year that there would be no selfishness there would be no more selfishness and I don’t think any player that they brought in breaks from that Norm so I give it a B minus the reason I give it a B minus is because I believe that there is a player on the board that I can Envision being better I think there are a couple players on the on the board that I could Envision being better and his limitations are scary as a guard uh who can’t dribble very well it’s not a great point of attack Defender I worry about his fit with the Toronto Raptors long term but if if it works if if he works on those things the upside is enormous that 1% sliver of hope that I presented yesterday was Devin Booker if this guy can become less Reggie Bullock and more Devon Booker even if it’s 60% of Devon Booker it’s going to require three level scoring it’s going to require a midi pull-up it’s going to require a better playmaking feel and handle and again I don’t necessarily think that players become better Playmakers automatically I don’t think he’s a complete non-player I saw him struggle at times in college a lot of people do with expanded space I wonder what he’ll do that’s always a question for college players with more space What do you do I also want to mention not the greatest First Step you’ll see athlete you’ll see athletic when you see him but there’s a difference between you know real Livewire athletes you have to be so good to be a guard in the NBA you have to be so well-rounded he is not super well-rounded at this point but he does something incredibly well which is shoot at a high point and in very different ways it’ll get him on the court 8 10 minutes a night next year and build off of that and one thing that I will say is what saves this pick for me and probably what endear me uh what endear him to me is his work ethic the work ethic is always there um it seems like he’s really in love with the process of getting better that perfecting the process of getting better it’s a very similar stance that prospects like Pascal SE yakum prospects like demard de R rozan prospects like Fred Van vet yo I’ve seen him come and go man I’m learning to spot the trends of how these people talk and when someone tries to tell you that they’re in love with this process of one day better and you believe them it’s not it’s not really someone that you really want to bet against so that that’s my grade for him B minus salute and good luck in Toronto all right Jonathan mogbo I wish I could pull up that video of Scotty Barnes speaking this into existence right Scotty has obviously um had long ties with Jonathan Jonathan’s come to Toronto he’s visited Scotty multiple times he’s been to I believe I hope I’m not misquoting this I believe he was on he was on that trip with Scotty to Montreal this is a guy who’s familiar with the organization he’s familiar with your star player he works well off of your star player even though he’s been often compared to your star player a lot of people say Jonathan moo is very Scotty Barnes ask yes they are three four type of defensive type of prospects with long arms but I think a lot of the similarities end there they’re very good Playmakers sure they set good screens other than that could mobo be and let me correct my own stance because someone actually messaged me and said Rob you said you said his name wrong 800 times and I’m going to kill you if you say it wrong one more time it’s mobo so the the G that we are all all of us white folks you know uh from North America are saying Mo uh it’s it’s moo so it’s the the G is sucked in so anyways Jonathan moo so I I I love him I I think he is fantastic the the long arms the offensive rebounding the screen setting the playmaking the short roll potential this is a versatile Team Defender this is a guy who can grow uh I think his shot is better than people think I know he didn’t take jump shots he says he can shoot I believe him he’s a hard worker his free throw percentage shows it year-over-year um insanely productive that’s something I can say about all the guys that the the Toronto Raptors um got is it’s it’s really insanely um analytically driven like uh whether we’re talking about him or whether we’re talking about the guy that comes up next even we’re talking about jacobe Walter there is some elements like between Jamal shed and him like analytically these guys really tested out well didn’t really play the strongest conference in San Francisco I think that’s worth noting um limitations offensively I would say he was a point guard he grew into his body 5 foot n as a freshman entering High School grew into this 6′ sish Behemoth of a man that you see still has plenty of room to go as an athlete I think he can get sharper I think he can get faster I think he’s going to get better I think he’s going to be very motivated he’s a very hungry kid I do you know maybe I I’m a little new school but I’m also pretty old school I have maybe for the last 15 years and I don’t know why I’ve always felt like where you come from has a lot to do with who you are maybe that’s because where I come from has a lot to do with who I am and people can sense that on me West Palm Beach this matters to me you know Baltimore players from Baltimore players from the DMV area players from New York City there’s like a way that you are you know what I mean players not supposed to come from West Palm Beach this is the second one that the Toronto Raptors are drafting that’s pretty cool that’s going to make that’s going to make Raptor jerseys really big deal in Palm Beach man that’s pretty cool out there um so I really like him I and I think you know I watched him break down his tape for um for a YouTube channel he was like very humble very articulate very smart guy you know he’s very aware of his limitations he believes that you know not shooting in college he kind of messed with his head a little bit the first year you know in college where he was he was in Community College I believe for a couple years where they’re just asking him not to shoot and you see a guy like this walk in the door and how quickly do you judge him and say hey you big man go go down go down and don’t shoot but this guy grew up playing point guard right so I mean this guy can initiate your break I think this guy can box out I think he’s going to be a terror on the offensive glass he’s going to get you extra possessions he’s going to free guys up those wide shoulders I mean honestly bro like I see a potential future down the line where this guy goes from he’s he’s weighing about 216 220 right now I see a future in which he’s like 260 250 like this guy could be be a beast right and I’m not saying fat like I’m just talking straight up filling out the process of filling out that all of us adults go through this guy I think he I see him as a future Center the player I like to compare him to a lot is Draymond Green I see Draymond Green meets cavon Looney I was very surprised given that he’s from the you know he’s playing in the Bay Area of San Francisco that the Warriors didn’t take him I really liked them I understand some people feel Kyle filipowski Johnny Fury all these guys they might be better I don’t really love Kyle filipowski I was kind of out on it right right away Tyler Smith I felt the same thing Tyler Smith I had a lot of questions about his defense a lot of questions about his toughness with Kyle filipowski I had questions about his his defense as well and I’m like yo the Raptors keep drafting non- Defenders you got RJ Barrett you got Grady dick at some point you need team Defenders to suck up these gaps to to do different things on the court you know and I’m not saying he’s OG he’s definitely not OG and defensively he’s not quite Draymond Green but he is a disruptive event Creator defensively he will get blocks he will get steals he will get deflections he will get his hand on loose balls he will die for the ball he is energy but he’s also Talent don’t mistake it as oh he’s Mantra hero he is so much more skilled than montrez hero he has so much of a you know deeper handle you know so so much so much ball skills and the truth is you know you just don’t usually get this type of prospect it’s a very weird road that he’s taken the Raptors are obsessed with weird roads they’re they’re obsessed with people who Took The Road Less Traveled because they see value in outliers Jonathan mobo is a massive outlier um s Antonio saying he’s a Kenneth fared clone I completely disagree with this 1,00% I know everyone is looking at him physically everyone is looking at his face looking at his hair looking at his his highlights and they’re seeing this and I promise you this the same mistake that people made with Scotty Barnes when they compared him to Draymond Green do not underestimate the brain and the talent the underlying Talent of a human being okay he is a really good passor I cannot say that it will can freed okay or or Montes heral or any of the other you know dreaded guys who who are kind of undersized centers that you’re thinking about right I mean look size to skill is the ultimate equation now the tronto Raptors may not have gotten very tall okay this during this entire draft process they didn’t get a super lot of height there’s no 7 foot s 7 5 7 foot2 there’s not a lot of that unless you’re talking about uish Contra who’s got 74 wingspan at 7 feet 611 what they did get is a lot of size horizontally they got a lot of wingspan they got a lot of strength they got it at the guard position they got it at the wing position and now they got it at the big Wing position so positional versatility is always matter to the Toronto Raptors Wings span size skill ratio all these things matter he checks a ton of boxes he is like every Prospect you know what I mean yo if I asked artificial intelligence to generate every Raptor draft pick in NBA history we’re talking Delon Wright Fred Van vet Scotty Barnes yaka Purtle um Scott you know uh oan anobi Pascal SE yakum Christian Koko if I could get all of them put together just take a little bit of that guy a little bit of that guy a little bit of that guy a little bit of that guy put it all into one player construct that player that player is Jonathan mobo I’m telling you I’m not saying he’s star I’m not saying he’s a superstar I’m saying he’s going to be a 10-year vet and it’s going to be really fun to watch you got a really good player here I understand his stock may have been lower but his stock was lower for reasons that are Beyond me and they don’t really matter um he didn’t come through conventional circles people tend to not trust that as much he’s a very good player okay moving on and I think he’s going to spend some time in the G league but I do think he will contribute pretty soon Jamal shed okay uh I have an apology to make look I did not like this pick when it came I I realized that when sometimes you’re just wrong and honestly I had to go and I spent like the last hour and a half when I was off just watching watching watching interviews trying to watch him break down his own tape watching some of his highlights watching a game that I had sort of exited halfway seeing what did the Raptor see in this guy I saw 6′ one super defensive Prospect I saw this was happening after we had already traded for Davon Mitchell I saw Kevin mcculler was still on the board and I just I couldn’t understand it I I really couldn’t okay and I’m going to give this a B+ right now because I’m just straight up wrong and this is going to be the same thing that I did with Grady last year where I pivoted in 12 seconds this is me pivoting in two hours this is totally a dark oay yakovich pick okay initially I thought this was a Bobby Webster pick which kind of scared me but this is a really like a dark pick RX is saying it right he mentioned in his interview that he just kept talking to Darko kep talking to Darko there’s a lot to like about him um let’s talk about it number one analytically like a monster I think he had a 12 or 13 box plus minus that’s that’s a good thing you know like to be that productive at that size he’s an event Creator defensively he is basically like a football player playing basketball and I really like that in my guards like he someone asked was he like Marcus Smart right and and I immediately shot it down because again optically surface wise Marcus Smart is bigger Marcus Smart is whatever I wouldn’t say Marcus Smart but he has elements of another Raptor’s card that people are not going to be happy about and I say Marcus Banks right now I watched Marcus Banks for a while and I was very upset that his career didn’t work out very well because I I I did have hopes at points that Marcus Banks would turn it around this stocky sort of like Elite like I I he doesn’t have Elite length he’s 6′ three length 6 feet tall but he’s a force I’ll tell you who he reminds me of a little bit right and this is going to sound really strange coming from me he remind um Muhammad LS is the bigger version of Maris noal no he is not not at all no unless you’re just going to talk about oh he has the dog he’s very you know aggressive in which case sure but that’s that’s a lot of point guards no he reminds me a little bit of Fred vanley not as a player please don’t you know start quoting me and being like do you know what Fred vanley shot from the field at witch State shut the [ __ ] up with that no look I’m talking about as a he said things in his pre-draft interviews that I spent an hour watching that were like if you had told me he literally plagiarized some of Fred bamb bed speeches I totally see why they liked him this is a player they’ve had a lot of success with in the past his shooting potential is there there is shooting potential did he shoot well no I think he was below 31% often but there is shooting potential and I also wonder if all of the energy that he burns out on defense and the number of minutes he played was K was leaving his legs a little bit dead because he’s not really a bad free throw shooter right um SP saying Jamal Tinsley no definitely not no no no no no no no definitely not Jamal Tinsley but I love this quarterback ment ality that he has right also shout out to Karen Karen Hall I believe who sent me this beautiful video now this is going to sound really anecdotal it’s going to sound really stupid but I really appreciate these small little things that show people who you are and it’s not staged and it wasn’t scripted at all so one of his teammates I believe this is what happened in the video one of his teammates is is very upset about a loss or something like that and they go into the tunnel if let me know if y’all have seen this and he’s just smashing [ __ ] and he and he ends up like creating a bit of a mess and it’s like garbage all over the place or whatever and Jamal shed Walks Behind and he notices this and so instead of walking past it he stops and he picks it up and puts it in the garbage it’s a really stupidly small thing but as someone who who would do the exact same thing in that situation and and would watch as people just pass by me like not my fault not my problem there’s an element of ownership that comes with this I can guarantee you this guy said I I was not privy to his draft interview I was not privy to his pre-draft interview I did not listen to it watch it whatever but but but but but but this guy I bet you any amount of money he said the word winning like 50 times just like Scotty Barnes I bet you anything he said the word winning a lot because that’s the stuff that creates winning you know how to win in an NBA locker room you confront your issues you know how you win in an NBA locker room you say my bad that was was my fault you know integrity and winning go hand inand I think you got a really in you know a guy with a lot of Integrity here right um I think he he seems really smart like really smart like really mature and and honestly Pat myself on the back here takes one to no one I see high intelligence when I see it in people he’s a guy who sees the game sees himself he’s so aware of his weaknesses and so once you’re aware of your weaknesses and you’re able to vocalize that you’re not lying to yourself about hey I’m a great shooter if he walked around and he’s like I’m I’m Steph Curry we got delusional problems right that tells me a lot about him that tells me he’s keeping his Circle clean right that tells me he has good judgment this is how I I like these things about about a person right so uh Super Chat here for BP is there any way to get Taylor Hendricks given Utah is having so much talent plus drafted more forwards Hendrick great shooter two-way ex Scotty teammate um good for you for knowing that Taylor Hendricks was an excot teammate that’s some losing on the internet um yes Taylor Hendrick was uh I believe with Scotty Barnes in aou for the night Riders I’m not correct if I’m not mistaken so uh no I don’t think you’re going to get you’re not going to get Taylor Hendricks the the Jazz are very high on him and he played really well last year to to close out the season but then again a lot of young players play well to close out the season I carry on I think this guy is going to be asked to quarterback or or sort of lead the 905 this was a role that was handed to Maris noell last year I watched five or six 905 games last year uh when Grady was playing and I watched two or three when Grady wasn’t playing I didn’t find myself very impressed with the product I had a lot of friends who attend 9of five games I have a friend Adam shout outs to Adam who has season tickets with 9 five game he said this is boring basketball it’s abysmal to watch it will not be boring with this dude he is an event Creator defensively he’s a dog he’s someone who really really picks up his man I saw him get cross smashed onto a center and then bully the I was like bro jeez that’s a good sign granted is in college I don’t project the star no one is saying he’s going to be Fred Van B No One’s Gonna say he’s gonna be a starter no one’s saying anything if Jamal shed can become a 15 minute per game Off the Bench guy someday who comes in gives you point of attack defense 94 feet pickup Point smart off Ball moving decent cutting okay positional versatility smaller Patrick Beverly um maybe maybe you know um but yo there’s an upside here where he is a starting point guard I’m telling you it exists within him it’s a very slim slim chance with him with mobo with even with ja with jacobe Walter all of these guys have a slim chance to extreme outcomes and I appreciate that and the Raptors looking for that it’s not and they have pretty high floors too all of them have pretty decent floors I think if you’re looking at like his floor it’s a third string point guard who sticks around in the league for like eight years you found a real NBA player here this is actually like pretty impressive like you took flyers on David Johnson who had literally gotten worse every single year at Louisville you took a flyer on on on 5 foot6 Maris Noel right who didn’t stick around you’ve had a lot of flyers on guys and you’ve put development dollars into guys who haven’t made it as NBA players occasionally one out of six one out of five you do end up with a guy O’Shea brette Delano Banton usually Canadian guys who do end up making it but not as high level players so I don’t know maybe the Gambler in me says your do no I’m saying that you found a real NBA player here I don’t know what caliber of NBA player he’s going to be but you know a third string point guard who can occasionally come in change Pace I think that’s valuable um yeah so what he’s a little bit small whatever he makes up for a little bit of it with his physicality and size he’s bigger than Fred Van B he’s right around the same size as Kyle Lowry he’s he’s entering a franchise that has a history of players like him getting Max contracts if that’s motivation if he and yo I kind of appreciate the fact that he thought enough of himself to bet on himself like again betting on yourself is not not as bad a thing as Fred band vet made us feel is okay betting on is a great thing when it doesn’t hurt other people around you I don’t think he’s betting on himself to hurt anybody else the initial story of Fred vanet was what he didn’t want to go to some [ __ ] situation where he was going to be signing to a two-way deal and sitting in the g- league whatever he decided that he was going to choose his destination they the agent let him slide out of the draft it got undrafted and then he picked his spot and you know the ultimately he’ll He he’ll probably tell that story like he picked his spot but he came to a spot with Cory Joseph uh Lowry and and Delon right ahead of him and then his response if yall remember that interview was who cares they can cut one of them guys in hindsight looking back that is the epitome of Fred Van right this guy is going to come in and he is going to be a pusher in practice I think he’s going to push people to be better players like this always make your practices better Scotty Barnes is like this too he makes your practices better you need Livewire people you need energy people you need high energy people in your locker room room I think you got one here so it’s good you got a good guy here moving on the Sacramento oh bu reach kch okay I will not devote that much time because honestly there isn’t much to say here he is born I think December 28th 2005 so if he was born two days later I don’t even think he he can qualify for this draft he is the youngest player in the NBA if he signs a two-way contract it will be historic for a lot of reasons he’s like the youngest kid since high school kids were allowed in the NBA he is insanely raw he is insanely green I promise you I watch enough tape on this guy y’all know me I’ve been touting African prospects forever I’m always high on them almost always high on them Eve MEC was like one of my favorite players in this draft Christian Koko Pascal seaka Oobi if you know me way back I usually pick up on these guys pretty quickly I’m telling you I wasn’t super high on U com I’m going to be real about that he is so far so so Flor I don’t know who told him to enter the draft I don’t see why he should have gone to college for two years the Toronto Raptors are not taking on a project they’re taking on a Salvation Mission okay this is a bailout they are trying to bail this guy out of development hell because I don’t think he’s been welldeveloped he’s been playing basketball since he was 13 years old he’s 18 years old now honestly if you told me he picked the basketball last year I would believe you he is extremely raw he commits offensive fouls at an insane rate um he has certain skills that are decent um he moves his hips pretty well um he tracks the ball insanely well and he runs the floor really hard he seems to enjoy playing defense and that’s probably good he hasn’t watched a ton of basketball he hasn’t played a ton of basketball the Raptors will have to fix that this is a one in a thousand shot but if it hits if it hits you got a lottery pick I say this is like betting the I mean it’s like betting $2 on like a rigged roulette board that’s like 16 times over right like I don’t even know what I’m trying to say I’m saying like it’s the most improbable of outcomes in almost 100 I want say 99.89% likely this is going to be another and I won’t say Solomon Aly because that is stupid because it’s very different than Sol mon Alby I don’t even know who to compare it to in Raptor’s history because typically players like this don’t enter the draft okay this is very Johnny Fury but Johnny Fury is like a 100 times you know better in terms of like basketball skill and stuff he’s extremely raw he got some very bad advice entering this draft in my opinion he goes to college maybe he gets exposed and he’s not an NBA Prospect anymore and people just decide but I think if he goes to college gets better for two three years this is a guy who comes back in three years and is a late first round pick right now if you’re the Toronto Raptors you think you can circumvent this process or cut it off and decide to take him now right and you’re going to take him now um since they never underestimate the power of clutch see a clutch guy that’s interesting Christian Koko was also a clutch guy so that’s that is interesting I I I don’t I don’t I don’t know if he’s a clutch guy but he got bad advice if he went um if he went in the draft right now unless of course he had a promise unless unless you know the Raptor said hey we’re going to get a late pick or if we don’t get a late pick we’re gonna get you a two-way contract okay great um that’s collusion is that collusion is that is that tampering can you do that with a yeah you can do that with a player anyways point being I don’t think he’s ready to contribute do not expect him to be at the NBA level anyone pen in his backup center is absolutely insane and out of their [ __ ] minds I guarantee you he will not hold that position on the Raptors next year or the year after however at the age of 21 if he turns into something it will probably be a combination of like a very poor man’s Usman garuba and is that valuable as a third string big sure right it’s fine let’s move on so I mean it’s a B minus because you’re at the 57th pick pretty much got the draft pick for nothing he is a high upside gamble with at least a sliver of Hope of being something more and I’m sure at the very least he’s going to be very entertaining to watch because he does do some interesting things with the basketball from time to time that are going to make you say oo and ah but if you watch him play for 35 minutes I promise you you pull your out okay um okay and now finally my grade on the trade okay and appreciate uh 434 of you in here I really appreciate it that you’re y’all are y’all are doing 434 at midnight I appreciate you guys so much I can’t even put into words um Sasha venkov um I don’t know what’s happening with this guy right I have I haven’t really been able to uh talk to my contact and I’m going to talk to my other contact and my boy Leo is um busy right right now but um at some point I will hope to get a little bit more clarity on Sasha venkov and his situation and whether or not he’s going back to Europe or whatever and what that would mean for the Toronto Raptors I’m GNA assume right now that he’s going to stay and I’m going to assume that Davon Mitchell is going to stay okay I give this grade A B largely because of the draft picks that came back now I’m not going to sell you the hopes and Dream speech on how important and how incredible next year’s second round pick is how ever I will tell you that I have looked into that draft pretty extensively and there are some very tantalizing players that I was looking at and look if you’re going to be fair on one side you got to be fair on the other side I was very pissed off I was literally about to create a video just like two three weeks ago talking about how pissed off I we gave up another second round pick in 2025 as part of the yaka Perle trade how it’s going to come back and bite us what if [ __ ] Nicole yic part two is drafted with one of those picks the Raptor should be more careful with second round picks and then they basically get that pick back except they get an even better pick back because our pick next year is probably going to be if things work out the way I think they’re going to work out it’s probably going to be like 39th pick 40th pick 41st pick or 42nd pick right that’s going to be in that area because regardless of whether whether you win the lottery or not your second round draft pick stays exactly as your record was the Portland Trailblazers pick however uh it could be 32 33 34 I mean my God this team is this team is awful right they just traded Malcolm Brogden he’s one of their best players they’re capped out to hell I don’t know what they’re doing but they’re in the west you’re telling me there’s a chance in hell they’re going to be a top 12 team in the west I mean at worst that pick is 38 that has a chance to be really good and I think people know that and because there’s so much hype and Buzz around the 2025 draft maybe a lot of people stood out of this draft there’s a lot of teams that traded out of dist draft they haven’t had a young player come into their program in a while so they’re going to be trying to load up for 2025 draft pick so at the trade deadline either that 2025 draft pick is going to be used as a massive sweetener maybe add in the CBA implications and add in the possibility that the Portland trouble is could be super super bad and if you end up with like the 31st 32nd pick next year’s draft that draft pick might actually be worth like a future first it is actually a really valuable pick so the Raptors got it back um I read a Kings post that was really interesting about this trade where someone said if you woke up this morning and and read that the Kings traded Sasha venkov for J for Jaylen McDaniels you’d be pissed if you found out that they traded Sasha venkov H sorry you tra found out they traded Davon Mitchell for jayen McDaniels you’d be pissed if you found out they traded one second round pick this second round pick 45 for Jay McDaniels they’d be pissed if you found out that they traded the next year’s Portland second for J McDaniels they’d be pissed and they’re like bro we didn’t trade one of those things we traded all four of those things for Jo McDaniels and they think that their draft office they think their front office got cooked but they’re not seeing the cap implications and the Raptors took on money they took on $12 million between Davon Mitchell and SJ venko I like Sasha venko as a player I have mock traded him to the Raptors at least 20 times as early as last year I see the value I get it I’m not the biggest fan of his defense especially in the team context of this team he’s a very smart player if he stays with the raps he’s a really good shooter he has an incredible sense of what to do without the basketball he plays very well in a in a box like he he is just he is not six dribbles and antithesis of everything you saw with Nick nurse it’s literally one dribble boom shot no dribble catch pull up he is extremely efficient I played with a guy like this once um you know back uh in 2005 a joy not him but a guy like him and a [ __ ] joy to play with guys like this um he he he can he can do it off the catch he can do pull up he he’s he’s just a really smart player 6 fo8 6 foot n um has a good relationship with Darko Darko is aware of him I think I mentioned this on the live earlier that they were at a panel literally sitting next to each other laughing like two days ago and I started to think to myself ah is that King’s trade that I want to happen gonna happen it’s not that King’s trade that happened but another King’s trade that happened which brought to the Tron Raptors a player that I never thought would be a raptor which is Davon Mitchell I do not like Davon Mitchell um Karen Hall where is he from he is Bulgarian does Darko speak his first language no my girlfriend is Bulgarian I’m Serbian I 40% we can we can understand each other a little bit it’s close enough the countries are neighboring so the culture is similarish I don’t want to say it’s similar because I’m going to get a lot of hate mail for that but it’s similarish I’ve listened to Bulgarian music I’ve been to Bulgarian clubs I dated one two three I think I’ve dated three Bulgarian girls yeah I mean it’s the cultural overlap is is pretty close to there um Euroleague MVP just a couple years ago so maybe dark can go again Euroleague MVP Anthony Parker is a Euro League MVP we hear Euro League MVP we assume you know there’s there’s uh who else is EUR League MVP was Mike James just Euro League MVP I mean look that doesn’t mean very much it’s it’s not not everyone who wins EUR League MVP is considered a superstar he is a baller though he is absolutely he is you know he’s a he’s a CL he’s a player and he is um low maintenance I believe he’s pretty low maintenance he’s he’s a good character guy from everything I watched of him like three four years ago I really liked him I I walked away very impressed um there was a player not quite like him but of his size profile that I really wanted the Raptors to get um 10 years ago who was Serbian uh nokovich and he never ended up coming over but you know it’s interesting for for EUR European players to ever come over maybe he felt hey the Kings have a history with Shooters like me Pedra St yakovich Etc but it didn’t work out with Mike Brown Mike Brown didn’t want to play him I don’t necessarily think um ha European MVP Den Sher no he didn’t uh so it’s Euro League MVP not Euro Cup or EUR European basketball MVP it’s it’s it’s uh yeah so Joan Davis saying I love Davon Mitchell he’s going to be a shock a lot of people he can play D handle the ball and finish shocked you don’t like him so free to disagree no problem I watch a lot of Davon Mitchell I have trolled my boy Leo for for the Kings picking him at nine a lot right Davon was picked ninth I believe in the 2021 NBA draft right I’m not I’m not crazy right 2021 so that’s that’s the pick after France Vagner they picked him after fron Vagner um they picked him before Moses Moody I mean there’s some Duds in that draft but there’s also some really good players that they passed up to get to get him and I just didn’t like the pick at that point I thought he was very old he was 24 years old coming out of college and um it it just hasn’t looked right with the Kings I watched a lot of him last year because I was doing a lot of Keegan Murray film study last year because my boy Leo kept telling me Keegan Murray is a better Defender and I I wanted to watch it so I watched all of Keegan Murray’s possessions for like I think seven games and I and I changed my mind so I’m willing to change my mind um I was watching daveon Mitchell during those those highlights too because I have a long curios about this guy um I don’t get it okay uh weirdly enough very similar to Jamal Jamal shed in terms of um just like the overall profile of a stocky guard who is a big event Creator defensively who maybe doesn’t have the greatest size and greatest length but competes and gets into your body is very physical right point of attack guy right Davon is a good point of attack guy obviously the Kings had no use for him you got to think of it this way every trade takes two partners right if the Toronto Raptors moved off of Grady dick for a second round pick how would you feel you’d feel like they lost their [ __ ] minds right that’s the point you usually don’t move off of high lottery picks unless you’re absolutely exhausted all options with them I don’t have any high hopes for Davon Mitchell this is clearly an expiring contract you are basically converting a player that you know didn’t work with you for a player that does work or potentially could work and could fill a need for you obviously no matter how good Jaylen McDaniel is going to next year he’s not going to play backup point guard you have a hole behind him man quickly backup point guard hole and maybe just maybe he can fill it so now my broad takeaways of what I like about what the Raptors are doing and why this video’s title is the Tonto Raptors got their groove back I think that the Toronto Raptors are a team that likes to take risks historically this is the team that I followed this is the team that took Pascal cakam you know 25 picks early this is a team that took a chance on OG anobi even though he was injured this is a team that usually took risks that other teams didn’t I made a video I think three days ago talking about how the tronto Raptor should probably trade into this draft because everyone else is trading out of this draft I talked about the possibility of trading up in the draft because everyone didn’t value those picks basically what I was trying to say is at some point you need to be contrarian you need to do something that no one else is doing you need to give away from the group think and get into the philosophy of zigging while everyone else zags that’s precisely how Danny a fleeced the Brooklyn Nets because when everyone was talking about how great Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce and and Jason Terry were he was looking down the line the tronto Raptors made a lot of short-sighted moves over the last couple years I’m going be honest yakob purle Fus young everything to just preserve you know when you get into preservation mode you lose your mojo a little bit I think the Raptors lost their Mojo for a while W yeah sure jacobe Walter is not necessarily the player that I would have expected old Messi and old Bobby to pick maybe they go you know they go Eve Mei 20 times out of 20 four years ago but the roster has changed the player you’re building around has changed and they’re changing too they’ve learned from their mistakes I think they’re being aggressive that’s good and they’re taking small calculated risks guess what if Jamal shed doesn’t work out you wave him next year no problem if jacobe Walter doesn’t work out if the handle never comes along you trade him next year if Jonathan mobo doesn’t work out guess what you trade him next year there’s nothing huge here these are all very intelligent small calculator gambles and you gave yourself multiple cracks at it look I’m pretty big on this idea that you should never ever try to sell yourself on the idea that a prospect is can’t miss usually that’s never the case even when it turns out to be right see just because your your process is wrong doesn’t mean just because your result is right doesn’t mean your process was was right you know like sometimes you get lucky truthfully do you think that the Denver Nuggets knew that Nicole yish was going to be a future MVP do you think that you know the Denver gates for sure knew that Michael Porter Jr was going to be healthy enough to become a max player when they took him at 14 after all the injury concerns do you think you knew that that you think the Toronto Raptors knew that Pascal was going to be a two-time all NBA guy of course they didn’t know these things right of course they didn’t know these things what came of it was small calculated risks you know 20 20 20th pick 23rd pick right Delon right you take these small gambl you take these small risks and ultimately you reap the rewards and the rewards are you get serviceable players or you get quick quick changes right and what I like about the tronto Raptors or I used to like about the tronto Raptors was they didn’t hang on to things too long you know I feel like they were they were getting desperate a little bit I didn’t understand why they hung on to Malachi Flynn for so long I really didn’t it was so obvious he wasn’t working out and then suddenly you’re waving guys to clear wave for this guy I didn’t get that I didn’t get why you know suddenly we’re we’re so desperate to being yob Perle back to preserve this core I didn’t understand that this to me read desperation and it’s so important for the Raptors to realize that what brought them what brought them to the point of a championship was taking risks that other teams refuse to take okay thinking counter to other teams thought I guarantee you that there are at least half the teams in this league did not Scout this draft very well the Raptors decided to scout it extremely well they’ve been scouting it for years for whatever reason they saw this draft as a unique opportunity because as everyone was too busy saying this draft is horrible this draft is trash this draft is bad they’re like let’s go find the next Jeremy Grant let’s go find the next you know Malcolm Brogden let’s go find you know the next yanis Sant TMO let’s go find let’s go try to find the next Nicole yish let’s go try to find one of these guys let’s go find the next sergy Baka let’s take calculated risk let’s do our due diligence and let’s find these guys every one of these players is a wild card literally all of them all six of them have the potential to fail epically right epically none of them are consequential none of them are consequential none of this is like oh you [ __ ] up up Scotty Barnes in 2021 fourth overall pick what are you doing these are six different variables once you get them into your gym they can blossom once you get them into your program they can blossom there’s so many weird things with young players you know Grady dick last year yall remember the initial gry dick that came out how Fish Out of Water he looked how terrible his analytics were he was possibly the worst player in the NBA for the first 40 games he had one really good game against Philadelphia and everything else was ass literally gry di comes on the court you can guarantee yourself that the that the lead that you have is gone that the other team’s going on a 100 run that everyone’s going to pick on him and bro if you just watch those games You’ think this guy was absolutely ass you wouldn’t think he was a first round pick you wouldn’t think he was a lottery pick you would think he was ass what did they do put him down the g- league and then he struggled in the g- league and he was even worse somehow he got even worse he was getting outplayed by career Journeymen who were barely older than him and man I watched it I watched it and I was was like am I going to look really stupid for backing this guy because he looks so bad but what you didn’t realize and what maybe a lot of people didn’t realize and even I didn’t realize at the time was his issue was physique minor his issue was strength they put him on the strength and training program they made him more confident they gave him more reps and then boom suddenly he’s confidently coming off that same shot and he’s hitting the same shot that he was missing honestly you never know how small that tweak is dark rakovic has talked about talking with Mel Bridges about fixing his shop form there might be something about changing someone’s sleep schedule someone’s diet someone’s form someone’s routine someone’s strength training whatever maybe it takes three months maybe it takes a year but at some point you have given yourself really five Crocs and maybe four good cracks and maybe three very reasonable cracks at getting a really good rotation player if the Raptors walk out of this if all six of these players if every one of the six players that I’m talking about here if all of these guys if all you get out of it is two role players you won this draft and you won this day cuz two role players would be a win here if you get anything more that would be great Ru saying Sasha is staying over here great awesome um that’s awesome yeah um Steve Steven saying I don’t want to see any more trades with the Spurs um I think sometimes just sometimes the Spurs and also Danny a with the you know um sometimes they get a little bit overrated as if they can’t make mistakes they can definitely make mistakes I think the Spurs might have made a mistake in this draft to be honest but yes uh maybe that same strength and conditioning plan for Grady will get jacobe Walter right who knows do you think Grady playing summer league he is absolutely he should play Summer League and I believe he will anyways give this video a like on your way out that’s 500 of you 50 minutes this was supposed to be a super super quick recap um K Johnson and City Soko to the Raptors yummy are you saying that because that just happened or are you saying that because you want that to happen again always confusing when people do this anyways I just wanted to articulate my thoughts in a way that was hopefully a little bit clearer hopefully a little bit more succinct hopefully a little less tired and um you know let’s go Raptors right I mean the Raptors got some young players we want young players on this team I hope that we have a management that’s willing to accept when they’re wrong about these players and move off of them and you know what next year if we end up drafting two three more players who knows what’s going to happen you know in the draft who knows what’s going to happen with the Bruce Brown trade uh you know who knows gonna what you’re going to get back for Chris bue I am all for loading up on draft picks because as much as we want to pretend that the Spurs always know what they’re doing or the Thunder always know what they’re doing what these teams are doing is they are accepting that they are not gods and they are taking a lot of stabs okay they’re taking a lot of stabs they know that the best way to win the game is to show up to the table okay the TR it’s it’s one thing you know the the the Thunder sometimes trade out a position right um darl s saying thanks for the recap I hope you get a chance to get the other video up I didn’t take a chance to clip it yeah I I get a chance to catch it live it’s a pretty long video I don’t necessarily uh think it’s it’s all that valuable to catch it live it’s it’s me and Fa and ny4 WS Paul just you know spitballing back and forth and some long pauses in between but sure I’m I’m sure it’ll be back soon um it had asked me to clip the Sasha fenov stuff I’m all for bets but the right bets role player bets is just dumb to me I don’t know so again Dutch you don’t know right that’s the whole point you don’t know Jaylen Brunson was a was a role player bet red was a role player bat Pascal seak was a role player bat OG enopi was a role player bat right Mel Bridges was technically a role player bat right like you got to think about it that way right RK saying we picked up eight players in two days eight what am I missing here there something happened yesterday that I’m thinking that I’m forgetting about right now um Brunson was an advanc Creator bat I see your point but this version of Jaylen Brunson was definitely not the player he was in Villanova he had significant gaps right if he was this good if he was even close to this good I promise you he would have gone a lot higher than the second round I’m just saying you know jyan Brunson as a rookie I remember that dude he was not much more than a role player like you can say he was an advantage Creator but and you could argue that maybe that’s something that jacobe Walter struggles with but I could argue you know jacobe Walter has physical advantages that maybe jillan Brunson didn’t have so things can get better what I’m saying is with a 19-year-old 20-y old 21y old even 23 year old who’s never been in the NBA before there’s a lot of different ways that this can crack and frankly there are a lot of different ways that someone can develop pick things up um and again once again the great equalizer the great amplifier if you will is that um ah the two two ways I forgot about the two two ways my bad that’s that’s where we’re that’s what it is and a 25t center H sorry a 25-year-old 7 Foot Center from Utah uh who shoots 37% from three that’s interesting I’m not expecting too much to come out of that to be honest but we’ll see we’ll see what happens right um Marvin saying I’m just thinking of possible lineup rotation of Scotty at the one IQ at so iq1 Barrett 2 mobile 3 wait what Scotty at the one iq2 Barrett three mobile four and Yak five sounds pretty defensively solid to me I think the great equalizer with Jonathan honestly is going to be the shooting and he’s going to have to work at it pretty hard I understand he’s never going to be dynamic as a shooter but he needs to become respectable as an above the break shooter it’s going to help their spacing a lot it’s going to help him a lot too um rri saying would you be would you guys get mad if we let Bruce Brown Walk I’ll let the chat answer that for you obviously I would not get mad at all I think the Raptors have kind of gaslit themselves into believing that they have some significant asset and a $23 million Bruce Brown I don’t think they do and honestly at some point Bruce Brown and Chris bue and Davon Mitchell all their expiring together might net you a player I don’t know what that player is I don’t know you know here’s a here’s a deal that I would really look at at this point I would certainly look at Andrew Wiggins and Moses moody right would certainly look at that trade if you if you get Bruce Brown back that’s that’s a trade I would look at maybe the Warriors look to clear some cap space if all the rumors about them and um Paul George are true but nevertheless um darl saying nope not mad at all if Bruce Brown walks yeah me neither man this this concept is so sad in Raptor’s land we have a lot of media people who kind of espouse this because it gets people riled up and it gets people angry of this concept of losing the asset again free finance course here if you buy something that’s worth $50 for $200 you don’t have an asset you have a matab ball in your hands it’s not an asset right you can consider it an asset but to offload the asset you have to lose more than what you paid for it it’s not really an asset worth having you can consider it an asset as in it’s a nice to have but any asset that takes more to lose it I mean it’s like I don’t know I don’t feel like going into a finance crash course but it’s like owning a uh it’s only like it’s um hey do you like Kaleb Houston for the Raptor yeah I like Caleb Houston a lot also an ex ex Scotty teammate interestingly enough Bird that’s funny um right now an overpriced Wiggins would would be worth the defensive and shooting um Jamal Jamal shed uh um so a lot of people have said Jamal sheid it’s it’s not sheid um Jamal shed highlights I believe it’s shed I’ve heard him called shed many times um so I think it’s shed and I think I I I myself said Sheed initially when he was drafted so I apologize for that um Jamal sh highlights are incredible yeah I I would suggest watching there’s a video in which he breaks down his defensive highlights definitely go check that video out is is really interesting um what what what is it on No Ceilings I think um it’s a it’s I don’t know I I walked away very impressed with him uh just as a as a player as a person and I think he’ll fit really well with the 905 all right post martinist appreciate it man like buying a Maserati lose 50% first year sure yeah it’s a little bit like that right um my my favorite Jamal shed highlight is him picking up trash after his angry teammates knocked over a garbage can the guy’s classy I actually brought that up earlier and you know you’ve articulated it really well it is pronounced Jamal shed okay good that’s that’s great I don’t really like lavine’s game don’t think he’ll be a good fit hey Rob do you like bridges for Raptors he has criminal record in California you know what’s really funny it almost sounds like you’re telling me hey Rob do you like this guy and then giving me a sales pitch that he has a criminal record in California it’s almost like hey you want this ice cream it’s really nice I’m still thinking about ice cream [Music] bro did anyone see the video of McDaniels finding out he got traded yes we did we flashed it when he got traded it was really funny I had a pretty I had a pretty solid joke about it to be honest not going to lie I had a pretty solid joke about it I said it’s the first time he’s been off his phone and he gets traded um he’s picky for uh he is classy for picking up the garbage can but damn it’s crazy how low the bar is sometimes if everyone was just a tadmore respect to will go such a long way I understand what you’re saying but he didn’t just pick up his own garbage which I think would go a long way in itself to improving the world that you’re talking about he didn’t pick up his own garbage he actually picked up somebody else’s garbage and he did that as an as a star athlete now we are used to our star athletes being spoiled entitled narcissistic Above the Law Bratz and so that is why someone would feel entitled to do that I’ll tell you a funny story when I was 5 years old uh I used to uh my mom used to work at a mall right and we couldn’t afford a babysitter this is super delinquent parenting that I’m just exposing here so my mom would work at the mall and she’d be like at the front and she would have me sit on the bench in front of the mall which is like scary now that I think back on it I’m like damn how did I not get kidnapped and what I would do is I got tired of just sitting there and playing with my action figures and my Legos on a bench and people were looking at me kind of funny so what I try to do is try to do a bit of a Civic service so what I try to do is I try to go and I try to open doors for people so as people are coming in or out or whatever sometimes you see old people so I just try to open doors for everybody I thought it was good stretching for me you know to open the door like that and I would Push the door and people thought it was really cute and people say thank you and you feel really nice about it so I mean it’s stupidly stupidly small things like that right it’s really about we live in a world where I think a lot of people go around saying not my fault not my problem right when you see a person who says doesn’t matter if it’s my fault I’m going to make it my problem and I’m going to solve it because it’s happening close enough to me and I can do something about it that’s where you start start to see real men in my opinion emerge right how many people could have stepped in and diffused the situation that was going on in the Raptor’s locker room like two years ago but people didn’t right um I believe it was coach who threw stuff on the ground too don’t really know um can we can we still make trades or we have to wait till Sunday I believe we can make trades yeah we can make trades I’m pretty sure we can make trades yeah we should be able to make trades anyways I’m going to get I’m going to get out of here thank you so much um to y’all for for tuning in I really appreciate it we just hit the one hour mark which dissuades enough people from watching this but I appreciate you guys hanging out with me and it’s been a really fun draft going five hours four hours three hours whatever and you know just sort of live reacting this going through this process it was fun I hope next year I can do way better I want to be so much better next year with the draft like I want to be like researching process and also it’s a great draft and the Raptor going have multiple picks I want to get like early like maybe to the point where we can talk about one player every single Raptors game or something like that so that’d be great I need to get a lot better at this I I don’t feel like I did the greatest job as a dra draft analyst if I’m want to call myself a draft analyst like my little [ __ ] Title Here says I got to be a 100 times better with this I can’t be you know like caught off guard I can’t be like you know missing numbers in my head there there’s there’s a lot more that goes to this I want to I want to get into it though it’s fun it’s super fun um to watch these kids and then to try to project what they’re going to do and then try to track them and and college basketball is really fun to watch too so anyone who wants to do it with me next year definitely and you know maybe you can come on and tell me what you saw all right I’ll RK s see you in an hour Rob no that’s it for me tonight I promise all right although I did promise yesterday and then I did a live anyways but no this is it for me this is 12 12:33 and I’m signing out have a great one good night guys

Quick takes and grades on 6 newest Raptors; Ja’Kobe Walter , Jonathan Mogbo , Jamal Shead , Ulrich Comche , Davion Mitchell and Sasha Vezenkov.

I’ve had some time to think, some time to balance some of my takes. I’m never a fan of instant reactions and always end up a little bit calmer after some time to digest and dig deeper. I think the Raptors have a VERY specific idea about what they want to accomplish and are going to take 100 stabs if necessary to get it right.

  1. I disagree with Yves Missi.Darko system requires center that can playmake other than score, plus Missi can't shoot.Other than that, he's a good defender. At best, he's a young Clint Capela type.

  2. Great live!. Going into day 1 of the draft, I was really losing faith in Raps management. Can't believe how much my opinion has changed. I wasn't thrilled with Walters pick but that's mainly my bias towards size. Thursday's events shocked me. It's been a few years since Raptors have been this aggressive and creative. Love Mogbo pick and absolutely loved Chomche. He's a pure Hail Mary play for upside.
Will the incoming players via trade the Raptors have turned over 1/3 to 1/2 of the lineup
Very big day for the franchise!!!

  3. Thank you for adding meaning to our lives Rob! Don't stress about trying to be 'the best analyst'. Being your authentic self is enough. ❤

  4. Why are some fans comparing Mogbo to Precious? It’s the most lazy comparison. Precious handle’s isn’t at the level or Mogbo’s and neither is his passing and just whole basketball IQ. I swear the comparison is just based on the both having dreads and both of the being of African heritage. It’s a lazy comparison.
