Milt Newton – Draft Press Conference Round 2 | 6.27.24

so last night John talked about the newness of an overnight in a full afternoon um so what was what was it actually like that process of of having all that time before things got going at you know 3:15 yeah felt like an extended version of last night um I I think as we always are um our guys and our organization was prepared to make uh decisions last night if it was that but having an extra day um you have chance to rehash and kind of look at the decisions that you could probably make uh take calls from a lot of Agents trying to get their um their players drafted but uh it was just an extension of last night it went pretty seamlessly obviously L just for you guys what kind of decision to not trade that go back yeah I mean especially where we were uh there was a lot of uh conversation calls from Agents calls from other teams wanting to move up into our uh into our spot into our position um but we had our process in place and knew that if um if our player was there we were definitely going going to uh select that player which we did um Tyler huge huge upside tremendous Talent humble young man hungry um the fact that he can shoot the ball at 610 611 um put some weight on he’ll be able to play some four and some five um great talent great tools uh someone that we see uh having great upside that can help our our Organization for years to come they deal with the gague phical of that game how different is it from what they’ have faced and have they gone to college and just what’s term preparation level the guy going from that program verus uh like you said I mean they are playing against uh grown men more physical game uh they get to work on their game um don’t have to go to class in a sense but uh the level of competition that he has played against uh and excelled at uh I think elev ated um you know what we thought that he could be U we got a really good grasp of what we thought his talent could be but it’s definitely a different level from playing in high school um you’re playing against grown men and it’s a professional game was uh was Tyler someone who who you had up around 23 as well you know in terms of just uh obviously was still available at 33 was he someone that kind of in your mix I guess of players in that you know that 10 kind of range uh yes he was uh he was someone that was ranked on our board very high and um we were surprised that he was still there uh when we picked at 33 um we’ve been doing the work on him since uh he played at day Knight and uh that’s a couple years now we’ve been following him we know about his game and uh he was uh among the group of guys that we really liked and but what he brought to the table what he brings to the table uh we just saw the incredible upside that he brings and uh once again U at 610 611 doing the things that he’s able to do it was a situation where we feel like it’s a good fit for us yes yes just defensively how do you feel well defensively very long uh shot blocking ability and Mobility wise laterally he can get out and guard guards on the perimeter if it came to that uh he’s well-rounded now it’s just a matter of him learning Concepts learning how to play against NBA quickness getting stronger to compete against guys that are going to be stronger than him but like I said before I think uh we feel like he has the tools to be a very good NBA player for a long time is the intent to sign them then and to have them rostered for your next year uh most definitely most definitely so and John said that about AJ Chris and just turned 20 so you have a couple guys who are the very young end I guess and this is not to Discount Andre in AJ and Mar but um it was there a thought of okay there’s no first as of now there’s no first round pick in 25 there’s no second round pick until 31 is some of that of the last two days was that factor to a degree of like let’s take some real high upside guys because we may not have a pick until two years from now if as it STS yeah I mean at the end of the day uh you know he is a talent uh he is 19 years old and we’re looking at the Long play um he is a player that we feel uh and you know we have some great coaches that are really good development coaches uh he he will be a talent for us and we will be able to utilize that Talent um we’ve got a lot of young K players like you’ve said and but we also have some guys that are more veteran more mature older and uh at some point you got to have that infusion of talent and we feel like uh with Andre and a and the three ajs now uh we feel like uh that’s a good infusion of talent to help them uh develop do you feel like that inrees the pressure of what you guys are facing kn you might need to find couple rotation guys in those kind of minimum oh most definitely um as you said two 19 year olds um we don’t think uh we could be surprised that they will be rotational players right now in the near future but uh it it wasn’t about that uh it was about adding Talent um to this team and if you’ve looked at uh especially this last year uh and in the playoffs teams that are uh younger getting up and running and long and athletic um we feel like uh that’s the trend of the NBA and we felt like we added two two players that can add to that but um um you know in terms of adding play now players uh I mean we we’ll deal with that in free agency speaking of I guess Talent uh a player who you had in Summer League last year but did not come over as Hugo Bess yes um is there any chance that he’s in the mix to come over at all or or kind of what is there a plan for him in this coming year uh we would like for him to come over if possible but the plan for him is always to develop and we also have to weigh against whether or not he can make our team right now which we don’t think he can and losing opportunities over in Europe and so we’re always going to stay in touch but make sure that he is okay with a good place to play uh over in Europe if if it comes to that this isn’t yeah just you guys keep on that guess it uh no he looked really good uh we saw the game uh 14 points in 14 minutes I think five rebounds or whatever he looked like Giannis but we do know that uh it’s still uh a process um I think he was limited to 14 minutes 15 uh 14 15 minutes and it’s something that we are working with uh with the with the national team to make sure that uh that he is put in a position where he doesn’t hurt himself and uh but to answer your question he looked really good and uh we just got to continue with his rehab process

  1. I had no idea the Bucks had any picks. This is the only pick we have for the next 5 seasons, really got to find that gem everbody overlooked. We need to get the guy who has been ballen but no team wants to draft him because of his criminal record. We need a starting SG and have nothing to get one with. If Giannis and Middleton are healthy for the playoffs we're winning another chip. Still dont like having 2 bench guys Beasley and Connington rotating at 2 gurard.
