Raptors Make Another TRADE – Masai Ujiri Lands High Upside Center | Raptors News

the torona Raptors have made another trade into this year’s NBA draft and they end up selecting with the 57th overall pick ear Chom a 7 Foot Center that has some shooting potential and has an extremely high upside he’s the youngest player in the NBA draft and Bobby Webster bide you Jerry are taking a big flyer at the late end of the second round on a dude that won’t be NBA ready right now but a couple years down the line could certainly be a piece that is looked back on as one of the Steal in this year’s NBA draft not saying it’s a guaranteed steal a guaranteed W but if things go right if the development goes right course this could be a certainly a dude that develops into a legitimate NBA Center in the NBA so we’re going to break down who erck Chom is as a basketball Prospect what impact he’s going to have on the Toronto Raptors in the short-term and potentially the long-term future of this organization but this is almost a historic draft pick in the NBA spheres he’s from Cameroon one I think it’s a seventh player from Cameroon end up getting selected but came straight out of the NBA Africa league so obviously MSI Jeri has a tight you know deep roots in terms of building Bas in the continent of Africa and has a deep roots in terms of drafting or bringing in Cameroon players you know obviously Pascal seak could be the biggest success story and then uh you know sergy Bala also going over there you having a deep relationship with the Giants of Africa stuff so basically a guy that baiu Jer has probably been scouting looking at for a very very long time and he is a very intriguing player now Gathering stats Gathering info they’re kind of all over the place regarding him as a prospect but early Chom is a guy that is essentially 7 foot power forward Center 232 lbs he’s only 18 and2 years old so the youngest Prospect they said on H the TV you know they say he the youngest Prospect in the NBA uh so he was projected to get drafted 57th that’s exactly where he ended up landing and the Toronto Raptors trade it with the Memphis Grizzlies to make that deal happen uh reportedly the Raptors basically gave up cash consideration so no big deals maybe there will be more details revealed on that front but the fact that there hasn’t been any details revealed beyond the fact that’s you clearing up some cap space there I mean that’s uh that’s indicative that the Raptors didn’t really give anything up to draft early chch but definitely an intriguing sort of frame and size and then when you take a look at his stats you know 36 in vertical which is pretty solid for a seven-footer right uh pretty quick Shuffle speed again for a size he has a 9 foot One reach and is a 74 wingspan so again physically this dude has all the intangibles of a center that can play in the NBA and again the stats here specifically don’t really uh tell a ton you know played three games and 13 points nine rebounds 3.3 assists 2.7 blocks in those NBA Africa games 1.3 Steals and shot 38% from behind the three-point line but again all the stats that are kind of published and you’re seeing going around they are extremely extremely small sample size so to get a better grasp in terms of who erck chch is as a pro Prospect we’re better off diving into the scouting reports in terms of what people are describing his game as you and how will translate over into the NBA fair so let’s dive in I got a few exerpts to really sink our teeth into so essentially Chon earned a spot on the NBA watch list at the g-league Showcase with his outstanding physical tools clear defensive appealing and flashes of shooting range ball handling and passing coming to the from the NBA Global Academy there’s just some uncertainty about his NBA Readiness but he’ll be appealing to more patient teams willing to make on uh take on a high upside longer term project so as we mentioned right the potential of the flashes are there he’s a seven-footer that can kind of shoot the basketball can kind of dribble can kind of do these things and has all the physical tools to be a rim protector to be a shot blocker to be a guy that can have an impact as a disruptor at the basket but NBA Readiness is still you know the concern about him right now he’s only 18 years old centers take a while to develop along those lines too I mean Christian Koko was a guy that had some question question marks about his NBA Readiness and he was a multi-year college Prospect so he was older coming to the league than early Chom is but basically and him and the Raptor system will be nice in terms of development with the 905 but uh bleach reports Jonathan wering Compares Chon to sergy Baka who is a one-time NBA champion three- time all defensive player selection and two time leader in blocks in the NBA and he’s drafted by the Super Sonics obviously played for the Toronto Raptors but like chch Ibaka started off his playing career in Africa and if Chom does have a career that resembles Ibaka he’ll have enormous success now to expect that ER chch is going to have the career of sergy baka the 57th overall pick that’s high expectations now it and I think I don’t think it’s undoable I don’t think it’s something we should write this guy off an 18-year-old because he hasn’t looked NBA ready really coming into things but to compare him to a guy that had a really debatably you know International wise and stuff potentially Hall of Fame career because I know that NBA Hall of Fame is a little bit different than you know just pure NBA success sergy Bak was never an All-Star and stuff in terms of global impact and things doing things in the Euro league and stuff maybe not Hall of Fame that’s that’s exaggerated but a big big name a big influential piece an impact player throughout the course I’m a homer I love sergy Baka I want to put in the whole of thing but realistically that’s a crazy take by know International Players like role players have gotten in that’s why I’m declaring that before the comment sections eat me alive but basically to compare early Chade to sergy Baka that’s a high bar High set to really aim after for but I like that that those comparisons are at least being made you know for a guy coming into the Raptor system coming into the Raptor group that is a positive for people that are excited about this draft pick you know a guy CED that but I don’t think our expectations should be set too high you know starting off but basically this is coming from sportset they said the 18-year-old Center is a native of bafang Cameroon he stands at seven a 6′ 10.25 we get different heights on all the different websites that come out with the 74 Wings span he’s also the youngest player in the draft he averaged 139 in 2.7 blocks in the three games for the Africa basketball league qualifier last season and he showed a willingness to stretch the floor and play as more of a b a modern big shooting 38% on his seven three-point attempts per game so that man is eating up threes he is just hoisting them from there behind the three-point line which might be a little bit discouraging because again a guy with seven foot frame you might want him scoring finishing a little bit in the rim but again those long arms being a lob threat that is a positive and we don’t know the point guards he was running with in those AF African league gamees so you know maybe with an Emanuel quickly he’ll be more of a pick and roll roller getting to the basket doing those types of things but shooting seven threes a game and 7 foot is a raw rpec is a pretty bananas there coming in at those sides but also chomre is a gifted athlete using his long frame and impressive leaping ability to protect at the rim and block shots however he is still a raw product who relies more on his athleticism uh than defensive IQ at this point in his development because of his athletic abilities he’s a capable switcher and can use that length to defend multiple positions and jump passing Lanes on offense he’s a strong roller capable of getting up for lobs and pick and roll actions and runs the floor well in transition before finishing strong on fast breaks he’s also shown some flashes and developing passing abilities and short action so again you know obviously the comparisons are going to come into you know former Raptors you know Pascal cakam being from Cameroon as well I like the fact that he runs the floor he’s an energy guy that’s how Pascal cakam got on the court during his rookie season when uh if you recall back Jared solinger was supposed to be our power forward but was dealt with a ton of injuries Pascal seak was that raw Prospect drafted 27th overall that we didn’t expect to really be playing and he started a ton of games to start off that year as the season went along players got back healthy obviously Pascal cakam got more of a bench rooll you know didn’t play a ton of games to close out that season but had the opportunity to get on the court develop and the Raptors right now who are a team that’s rebuilding you know switching up their sort of mole and uh you know going younger right chch hope does get an opportunity to get some run get some opportunities to get out there on the basketb this season I think he certainly will for the Raptors 905 but it’d be nice for the NBA main group for you know you can’t teach that ridiculous length and height and the ability to shoot when you’re that sort of size of frame so if he can get things right you know become more NBA ready become more of that uh you know polish Prospect I think this is huge for the Toronto Raptors but let me know what you guys think about uh this draft selection especially a 57 overall not having to give much and to trade into that position let me know in the comment section down below you guys the best make of this far and folks if you made it this far in the video you’re enjoying the content watching the latest feds you’re part of the 51% that haven’t subscribed make 1. If this guy ever pans out his potential is actually crazy. He’s now listed at 7’1 which means he grew. He can likely be just as tall as Edey in a couple of years except he runs like a Gazelle for his size and he’s athletic with long arms. It’s about getting him in a professional setting for a couple seasons with the 905 and helping him understand the game a little better because he’s still actually learning the game. He’s working on the 3 point shot but if this guy clicks he can be Masai’s biggest swing while costing him next to nothing. I see people saying stash him overseas but that’s not a good idea. He’s going to be with some organization that’s trying to win and won’t put time into developing him.

  2. I don’t think he see’s himself as just a center. He’s a Rich Paul client and there’s a picture of him and Lebron in the the gym. He said that he idolizes KD’s game and when you look at most of the players he looks up Pascal and Embiid are the only big’s and that’s likely because those guys are from his country. He likely see’s himself as a position-less, hybrid type like Giannis. This is why he likely put’s up a high volume of 3’s.

  3. why didnt he just go undrafted? what did we have to give up? did the raps just get fomo since the knicks were also stock piling 2nd round picks cause no one else was lol…i guess they heard the knicks wanted him too?

  4. This guy is awful. He'll never see the NBA or Euro League. Most 57th picks don't pan out Just being tall with long arms doesn't make someone a NBA player/ prospect. Smh.

  5. Not that weight matters, but I wish Raptors can create the next Shaq in the NBA. Raptors is missing a young big man that can dominate the paint.

  6. This is the BIG NEWS:
Jalen Smith declines his player option and is set to hit free agency unrestricted – and with the signing of Pascal, and the Pacers wanting Isiah Jackson to take on a bigger role, this might squeeze out Smith.
Raps are thin at back-up bigs, Kelly and the new guy Sasha are what we have (since Boucher is an after thought) – Smith fits the age group, can back up Jak, Kelly backs up Scottie, a nice 4 man rotation of bigs – if we trade Jak, Smith starts. He doesn't demand the ball, can run the court, plays big, great at put backs. Go sign him Raps!
