on today’s show we are going to be talking about some rumors some you have heard some you have not And discussing the viability of them Paul George Klay Thompson and another guy we’re also going to be talking about the summer league roster and what are other teams doing in free agency so far stay tuned this is DM ver nuggets oh man thank God it’s Friday I need a week I need a little rest here before this upcoming week we what is up everybody welcome to the dnba show go two man game here on a casual Friday Adam mat is in the house we’re going to be breaking down those rumors man such a rumor filled Friday I got it’s a peak slop season you know especially once the draft ends the couple days before free agency starts the most slop of the year you got free agency rumor you got trade rumors you got everything going on right now MH and of course the nuggets are tied up in all of it of course they well I wouldn’t say all of it but certainly some of the big stuff we’re going to talk about that I’ll I’ll be honest with you I think both of the rumors that we’re going to get into have some legs to them no I’m not saying tons of like you know oh it’s happening there’s some Tim legler to them they have a little Tim legler to them there’s also another one that might have some legs we’re going to get to later on you’re going have to stay tuned for that one cuz there’s one that we’re going to talk about uh but let’s open actually I want to talk summer league roster with you to kind of talk cuz I want to start nuget already things already happening but actually one thing happened yesterday that we spent no time on well it happened late that’s part of it McKinnon won the heart trophy the MVP trophy and I feel like because of how the NHL and NBA they just don’t match up we spent no time on this show at least talking about how Wild it is that the city of Denver won both the NHL in the NBA MVP it doesn’t feel like it does it no I mean it’s the first time it’s happened since Magic Johnson Wayne Gretzky and LA in 1989 isn’t that iconic Magic Johnson Wayne Gretzky same city two all-timer yeah and they also have an iconic picture together yeah I think from the year they won it and we need yic and McKinnon to recreate that picture so and I think it’s just the second time ever that that’s been done magic rescue was the first this is the second this is a big deal I feel man it’s a huge deal but we can enjoy it it feels like I know because of how both of these respective Seasons ended and it sucks and I blame both the NBA and NHL for how they roll out there into season awards they love their stupid roll out the NHL doing the award show now award show they’re like three years behind the NBA they’re like oh maybe we should do an award show that’s what the NBA thought like 3 five years ago this is an example of you find out in a capitalistic Society you find out you can monetize literally everything and one thing you can monetize is the re revelation of an award or so you know the Kia MVP it’s not just the MVP anymore we can attach a name to it or something and then you can do an awards and it’s like would Kia be in business if not for the NBA that’s the only thing they have left although you know Kia little some interesting cars roll off that line but would they really be here if not for the NBA I don’t know I have no idea but that but that’s kind of my point here is they that is one that it’s like we didn’t need the sponsorship we didn’t need the late roll out make those things kind of cooler it would have been awesome if it was revealed while both players were still playing and we could have done the in Colorado built it up hyped it up it could have been a cool storyline but nonetheless I’ve been thinking about this so much man about the what’s the most fun Sports Experience you can have and that first title maybe is it and this year it’s just so funny how hard it has been for my myself but I think even more true for the fan base and and and for people to keep perspective on what’s fun and what’s entertaining about a season and this or that and I think when we come back like 20 years from now people will talk about do you remember that year that McKinnon and joic both won the MVP man if I could have lived through that or if I could have done this or that and it doesn’t feel that way like right now even though it absolutely is so really cool I know that’s a hockey thing but really cool that the city of Denver had a championship then another champ ABS Championship a nuggets championship and then both of their key star players winning an MVP in the same year it’s just it’s actually really crazy well it’s also just two you know kind of once in a-lifetime players in the same City playing in the same Arena yeah at the same time yeah that is unbelievable you know the ABS have you know they have a more storied history than the Nuggets of course Joe sack yeah you know an alltime historic hocke player I don’t know I don’t want to try to be comparing him to Nathan McKinnon because I’m just not well versed enough in that but maybe McKinnon’s not one of one in the same way Nicole joic is but like joic and McKinnon on their way to both being alltime great in their Sport and the fact that it’s happening at the same time in the same city in the same Arena and um we have podcasts five times a week about it are pretty that’s a pretty cool coming together of events all right um so anyway I just thought that I wanted to make mention of it because it is pretty cool and maybe it’ll be more of a story at the start of next year the reigning MVPs maybe that’ll become more of a story I hope so maybe we’ll make it more of a story let’s talk about the summer league roster now because it is starting to come together and I mean like we’ve alluded to this a little bit and kind of joked about it but in all sincerity look this is a thing we cover it is to me it’s actually very interesting I know we laugh because it does tail off it lasts like part of this is it’s like 12 days long and so you run out of steam about 6 seven days through it but the the peak of summer league is like the first minute of the first game no come on and then it just well you’re building up you’re building up you’re building up that’s the Apex and then it goes down I think it’s the whole first weekend and by the way the schedule come came out the Nuggets play that first Friday so actually Nuggets basketball returns two weeks from like right now I haven’t seen the suly schedule yet no you should just set me on alerts okay you got to get me on alerts dude you tweeted it out I broke the story I broke here Friday 8:00 p.m. vers the Clippers interesting vers the Clippers and then they play again on that Sunday again at night uh against Toronto and then they play again on Tuesday this is what sucks right during our flight oh so we’re only there for two games for two games and we’ll probably miss that third one just bad bad scheduling but our bad timing uh for us but let’s talk about the Ruster CU I like I said I’m actually into it so jayen picket will be the the point guard like the he’ll unless he gets traded here in the next week he’s going to have the keys this is going to be in my opinion this roster will be built around his strengths not primar like exclusively but last year it was Colin Gillespie and him and it was a little bit remember it was always there together and like one had to start one had to not play a lot now this guy’s been resting I think this is going to be around like all right what does picket do well and how do we build the team that plays that style so first and foremost I just think we’re going to talk here in a second about Alexander cuz that could complicate things or throw a wrinkle but I think picket is going to there’s like no excuse for Picket this year he’s got and I thought he was good last year by the way in in summer league but this year I think he needs to pop yeah I go back to 2018 summer league and that was when Monte Morris was at point guard for that summer league team and it was coming off a season where Monte spent the entire season in the G League just like basically the same Year’s picket and if you remember heading into that nugget season you had Monte Morris backing up Jamal Murray and then the Nuggets signed Isaiah Thomas and I think the idea was Isaiah would be the quote unquote backup point guard you know we’ll see how that goes we’ll give him a shot he never really got a real shot at the beginning of the Season he was more hurt than I think the Nuggets thought he was yada yada y Monte Morris took over the rest of his history but going into that summer league like there was a thought from the Nuggets of like all right Monte Morris has to show he’s good like he’s got to show that he can play real rotation minutes for us into the season because we got Isaiah Thomas but we don’t really know what we have we need to know we got something in Monte Morris he did do that I feel like pick’s in the same situation spent all last year in the G League there’s a clear opening at back a point guard this is the first chance for him to get grab some real momentum this off season and show the Nuggets that like yeah you salary on JY Jackson you’re giving me a chance I’m ready for it he’s going to have two shooters for sure maybe more but he’ll have two Shooters in strawther and Tyson both of who I think will play a lot like there’s a chance Julian struther plays one or two games and then is out but I imagine I don’t know if he’s played enough I think he would it’s worthwhile for him to play jul out there for a couple games I would actually like that do you think he should play all of them or do you think he’s a two two game guy one or two game guy this thing about this thing about playing two games versus playing the whole thing like it’s a thing if you’re a returning player if it’s your second God forbid your third year usually you’re like oh I’m only playing the first couple games why wouldn’t why isn’t the expectation you just play all the games right like why is that too much to ask for people I don’t really get it it’s just one of those weird kind of standards that the NBA runs on I don’t know I would love to see STW out there as much as possible I would love to see the strides he’s made in his game I would love to see where his shot is at where his ball handling is at I would love to see him out there for as many games as like the Nuggets playing for we haven’t actually seen him meaningfully for like several months since the injury since the injury so this is like how much better can he be at this very point I feel like he could actually be meaningfully better and more importantly he should be the best player on the team he has the most experience what’s that Hunter Tyson maybe yeah but hunter Tyson at least wasn’t even in the NBA level like Julian Str had played at that pace so You’ think that going into this one he should lead the team in shot opportunities and hopefully has a Breakout game or two I think they’ll be interesting though together because they unlike picket and Gillespie they don’t overlap with each other like they both can do what they do without it being like oh we’re stepping on each other’s toes and they both provide some spacing which I think is great and then of course donon Holmes pick like for summer league Don Holmes the four or the five at Summer League it’s kind of an interesting question % a four per Calvin boo but at Summer League that’s like at Summer League he’s like a six but no he could definitely play center at Summer League come on but I don’t know there’s some beasts out there you know like that you’re going to be playing up against right but is that where you want to start him in his first Nuggets minutes and setting the tone that way but you also got this guy PJ Hall on a 2-way contract who’s more of a natural Center who I think slots in there by the way I really like PJ Hall I think he’s a good get look I don’t think any two-way guys second rounders are already reaching to say they’re going to make it but then a non-drafted two-way guy when I say I like him it’s like how I like Jay Huff I like him in the system and I like him for summer league I like PJ hall because I think he’s a very smart player can do some yoky stuff out on the perimeter just in terms of being a fulcrum or what have you so I think he has some talents that should fit in here and actually he’s also a scorer 18 points a game last year in little postup guy just posted up non-stop I don’t know I if they’re going to run PJ hall post UPS oh God I hope so that would be the one thing that when you get a guy on your roster who’s not part of your future but he’s really good at one thing and then that’s all you end up doing it’s like when remember when they had uh who’s the shooter um from no no from uh from BYU what’s his name yeah Jimmer forette when they had Jimmer foret and he was way too good that he almost ruined the whole summer league cuz the best play was clearly just get him the ball get out of the way do you think uh PJ Hall’s agent was on the phone with the nuggets in the second round like you know negotiating where his landing spot was going to be for the two-way deal yes this how it works for sure totally but do you think he was like all right how many post-ups are you giving my guy first game of Summer League 10 plus all right we’re in I like PJ Hall I think he’ll be interesting um the fan base it’s funny man the fan base really hates picket anytime we talk about him on this show the chat just starts going crazy on what it’s cuz he’s Calvin boots guy and the fan base hates Calvin Bo I honestly think it’s just as simple as that yeah but uh they get a guy Trey Alexander another an undrafted guy fan base loves him they love him he’s way better I mean I mean 63 guard like oh you got to to get the size there yeah uh second team All-American I mean come on well not a yeah not a first team all americ like pick but I guess second team all- americ is good too um no Trey Al Alexander out of kraton so I actually had saw that the Nuggets had sent tons and tons of Scouts to kraton for those games like all season long the cheap flight cheap flight just you know one state over maybe even a drive maybe actually they were in a van set him on one maybe a little road trip but kraton last year had Baylor shyan who I think the Nuggets did have a lot of interest in yeah you know maybe he would have been the pick if donon Holmes was off the board they couldn’t trade up and they also had Trey Alexander um those were their two best players last year Trey Alexander he is a 63 guard play The One play the two play both positions 17 and a half points per game last year atraton 5.7 rebounds 4.7 assists a steal and he shot 34% from three 82% from the line pretty good shooter just a really multi-dimensional offensive guy can shoot the jumper can get to the rim can pass a little as well just really well-rounded player it seems like do you know who’s coaching the team by the way have you heard have you I haven’t even asked I don’t know I don’t know either who would you like to see he kind of cycle through him briyan Bowen’s had a turn already yeah he doesn’t want to do it again oie’s gone you got Serbia yeah K clask is there but he’s already done it as well oh we need another run with klask think clask is the guy I would love it I’m trying to think of just who hasn’t done it honestly they all have they’ve kind of all taken a turn they had the same coaching staff for so long this might be first year it just recycles and it’s like all right somebody gets it I wonder if you give a guy like Travis armenta the head coaching summer leue job I mean he’s been moving up in the ranks and hasn’t done it yet being groomed a little bit for the gold Grand Rapids gold uh job perhaps maybe it be interesting he’d be a good candidate the last guy that we know of that’s probably not a conversation that uh the chats love him there’s there’s one other guy that we know that’s on the team and that is a guy out of Auburn a forward a super senior 5-year player named jayen Williams um he has 68 230 I don’t know anything another jayen Williams it was it’s hilarious isn’t it another J another Jaylen Williams uh he averaged 12 points a game as a senior uh to go along with 4.4 rebounds that’s pretty low rebounding numbers for a big uh didn’t take a ton of Threes but shot 39 and a half% so that’ll be another guy that’s on their roster or got an exhibit 10 will be with them for summer league so I think to me it’s all going to be about picket and strawther and then I think Tyson and Holmes secondary after that but I think that again is it a coherent roster at the moment to me it looks like there’s at least a coherent like first group that should have spacing a point guard and a big and like that not every roster has that sometimes it’s a little weird but so the starting lineup though pick it at the one yeah STW at the two okay T Tyson at the three or four holes at the four PJ Hall at the five that would be my yeah prediction for the starting line it’s a good lineup it’s a good lineup I’m excited for it I’ll take it all right let’s take a break on the other side let’s get to Anthony Slater of the athletic and he says that the Clippers asked for uh they had a conversation with the Denver Nuggets this week about Paul George Paul George is sitting on a 48 basically a $ 49 million player option he has to decide by Sunday whether he wants to opt into that or opt out he would really like a fouryear or most years he can get from anybody but we’ll just call it fouryear extension yeah and as much money as he can get Max so he knows this is his last big payday like Surefire big payday and he’s wanting that and now he’s got a pickle you know he kind of can place them in a pickle not different scenario than kcp but kind of the same thing where they’re going to have to make a decision here and he wants that four-year Max the Nuggets could do a sign and trade if he says look if nuggets do this they’re willing to give me the four-year Max I will you know I will agree to that you make that trade the pieces as reported would be Michael Porter Jr Zeke Naji and then quote a significant amount of draft Capital the nuggets bulked at that asking price and are no longer interested uh they’re no longer interested conversation is over it’s not like ongoing conversation is over first of all what do you think of just this like the general you hear this before we start breaking down the next step what do you think when you hear that doesn’t pass the smell test for me why so the only way Paul George is coming to the Nuggets is this opt in then sign in trade and then the thinking would be the Nuggets then give him a contract extension correct that’s more than what he would get from the Clippers cuz that’s why he wants to leave the Clippers they’re not giving him enough money well the Clippers I mean let’s be honest man they’ve tried this experiment now for what five years like so there is a little of their do they want to commit to four more years of the exact same thing I think they want to commit to one it’s like Denver with kcp I think Denver would love to commit to one but hasn’t The Narrative been like they would resign him but obviously not on a Max and not for more than what they gave kawh Leonard of course so three years right so he’s going to come to Denver and the nuggets are just going to give him this huge 4-year contract extension in the second apron environment that the nuggets are reportedly not that not that cool with well to be honest with you you’re right that for future me deals obviously that could affect you but the money matches up so that it would just be the same money at this year right right but you don’t want to do it for kcp you do it for Paul George Who is is 34 years old who’s had injury concerns who kind of ducks from the biggest moments in the playoffs right def that’s true who I’m kind of weirded out by based on a lot of the comments he’s made this off season yeah it feels like he’s got a lot of other motivating factors I really wonder if he cares more about his podcast than basketball right now did you see the article about how Paul George like was studying tape of Stephen A Smith I saw that yeah like what why would you even say that on record anyways yeah um all these things are true you’re bringing up a lot of truths here this doesn’t match the smell test for me like this does not add up the nuggets are just going to trade for this guy and commit to the second apron let’s have three max contracts in a you know CBA where everybody says you don’t want that we’re actually going to go down that road for sure with Paul George yeah just doesn’t add up to me I agree I I actually I don’t agree I think that they’re probably is something here I this this does pass the smell test for me it’s just in the way that you said this is the goofy part of free agency it passes as in they’ve probably had tons of conversations just how it happened so sometimes a conversation is simply just hey what’s going on over there oh Paul George okay I don’t know we’d be willing to do this and it’s just a casual thing sometimes they’re more serious so I don’t think you should read into it but let’s pull on the thread of the idea here you’re right about Paul George’s weaknesses what’s his Focus level you didn’t even mention the injuries he has played in the last five season Seasons he played 74 games last year which is really good prior to that 56 then 31 54 and 48 pencil the guy in for 50 games 52 games a year that’s 30 Games missing he basically played what Jamal Murray played this year but every single season that’s more or less what you can expect from Paul George so that part is the biggest concern in my opinion when you talk about the offc court stuff here’s the thing if you didn’t know better you would say the same about Michael Porter would you not he’s got a podcast he does l big he says weird things every now and then that go viral this or that potentially weirder things than Paul George says potentially even weirder and then people can say I don’t know if I trust his commitment or whatever we know Michael Porter is actually very committed to basketball he’s just a strange personality Paul George is a very popular personality what have you but here’s the thing man while I don’t know if Paul George is a winner he used to be in Indiana he was when Toe totoe with LeBron James this is a decade more than a decade ago but I know the youngsters don’t realize this at one point Paul George was was like clutch then he kind of became not clutch and rightfully so but here’s the thing he’s the third guy you know who clutch Jamal Murray you know who clutch niika yic Paul George has to be Michael Porter in those moments and I think he can be right and that’s why if you’re just talking about this from like a straight swap of Michael Porter for Paul George are the Nuggets a better team if they make that swap yes to me it’s un and I love Michael Porter I think there is something about the soul of the team would be you would lose something there oh yeah we’ve kind of been trying to hang on to the you know we don’t skip steps era and develop era Casey P’s out of here it’s kind of like all right it feels like this off seon and based on a couple of the free agents that we’ve heard you know maybe yeah could be coming to Denver it feels like this could really be the end of that yeah but you make that swap Michael Porter for Paul George are you a better team yes you just are you just are a better team he’s just the same shooter that Michael Porter is in my opinion he’s one of the best Shooters same height uh or least similar height he’s just as good and way better defensively even at his age I think he’s better defensively than Michael Porter is and more important than all of that he’s a ball handler he can ISO better than Michael Porter but he can also run pick and roll I think the pick and roll with him would be incredible he can post up better so when you get he’s just a way more versatile offensive player than my way more layered yes way more Dynamic so I think he would be phenomenal and then here’s the big kicker wi that as I’ve been thinking about we worry about Christian Brown in that starting lineup right maybe there wouldn’t be enough spacing or playmaking or this or that is there enough defense if you try to put like a strawther in there you know whatever you have I think if you changed Paul George and uh Michael Porter Jr this actually is not an issue at least in the short term in like year one I don’t think it’s an issue because Paul George is a Defender and a shooter so now if you play Christian Brown there I think your spacing is still going to be okay enough or you know it’s going to be whatever but defensively now it’s a juggernaut you’re talking about Chris Paul or Christian Brown Paul George Aaron Gordon as your supporting defensive players that’s great but even if you had to put a STW in there in a stagger lineup or something now you’re talking about Strather alongside Paul George that’s good defensively for stacker units so to me it actually mitigates if you lost kcp would mitigate it a little bit if you added a player like Paul George at least in year one and it would mitigate it quite a bit I would almost not care who the two was I’d be like they Denver has lots of options now at two that can work along that lineup I agree I agree you just have way more versatility with your lineups you have way more options of stuff you can do also from an offensive standpoint you just have way more you have another guy that can dribble the ball in the starting lineup and I know I’m like really dumbing this down but you lose kcp you know that’s a guy that can kind of dribble the ball Christian not really a dribbler you know he’s not a guy who’s going to create a bunch off the dribble pick and roll I don’t think kcp is a dribbler though man way more than Christian Brown was I know but functionally they would be the same you’re right that he’s more capable but they never did it but then comparing Paul George to Michael Porter yeah Paul George makes stuff happen off the dribble you know Michael Porter sometimes he’ll score 30 points and dribble the ball five times an entire game right um you know those things have their pluses and minuses of course um but but you would just add so much so many more layers as you said to the offense so I think that that so then the question just comes down to okay well they wanted you know draft equity for it and here’s the thing it probably is the deal breaker because I don’t think Denver can afford to give up for that cuz well I think it’s a Well the Nuggets can’t give up any more second round picks so if that’s what the Clippers want think deals off deals off I don’t think that’s what they wanted they think they wanted some first and Denver only really has one to trade so and it’s so far out that I would be willing to trade it for a good move I just know if they’ll pull it off but here’s the thing these when we say it’s goofy it’s because there’s so many twists and turns in these types of negotiations between now and the next 3 4 days it’s entirely possible that Paul George becomes pissed off at the Clippers that this is a thing that’s like you know what well maybe or he is but maybe it’s a thing where he’s like you know what I’m not coming back no matter what now I am done and then the Clippers are a little bit more up against they’re back against the wall and they have to make a decision do I think Michael Porter and Zeke Naji first of all I’ve always thought if there’s one team that would trade for Michael Porter it was the well do they still employ the team doctor probably not I don’t know do they still employ the team doctor that wrote Michael Porter’s career off after that medical report but we know that Balmer really lamented the fact that they overreacted to Michael Porter you know when he was torching them in the bubble he was like why did we let this guy go so I think that’s one place that you could foresee them maybe talking themselves into which is always funny but that’s why I actually think this could happen and and well I don’t again most deals won’t happen but this is one that I’m like even though the report is that they have no longer talking I look at that as Denver just saying we can’t do this for more than what we offer but what we’d offer we would do and if you get to that point call us again and it might get to that point in my opinion I just think it’s not that crazy I love Paul George I’ve long said that his skill set works great with jic and I love him even more if he is not your number one or number two option guess what he would be the number three option he probably wouldn’t run the clutch offense at all other than standing in the corner and I just Denver’s floor would be so raised and I even think their ceiling would be raised I love that deal and then at 34 years old you worry about the age but can I tell you something the smart teams always get out they always wiggle out of these things you know what I mean you’re still like we’re talking about he’s an injury risk more than Michael Porter probably not even though he has played more you know 60 or or played fewer games than than Michael Porter recently I still look at that and go they’re both such a huge injury risk that I don’t think that changes the needle at all yeah so you’d be cool being tied to those three max deals well I I’m not cool with it in like in principle I’m cool with it in that Denver is tied to that if Denver didn’t have these contracts like if if they were trading if they didn’t have the Michael Porter one and they had to trade four contracts to get them I’d be like no that’s too risky but Denver’s already tied to jokic’s Prime to Michael Porter yeah and I love Michael Porter but I’m saying if that that to me is no different it really isn’t that much different in 38 Paul George looks you know he’s in good he still moves he’s still good guys are playing later I just think that and if you signed him for a four-year deal I would count on at least two of those being at a pretty high level and there’s a chance all four are and you think about just the players as well so that’ll be nice also on Monday we we’ll have some reporting on meeting him and and just kind of initial impression so should be very eventful around here for the next couple weeks Klay Thompson according to the same reporters Sam Amic and Anthony SL Slater a league Source said Philadelphia has interest in Tom in Klay Thompson if the Nuggets lose free agent Clint avus called will pop which by the way I appreciate the framing if they lose I like it still open still open leaving the side door open leaving that side door in case anybody wants to come in uh if they who has decided declin his player option and enter the market a leak Source said Denver has pegged Thompson as a possible replacement Klay Thompson’s such an interesting one for long like let’s just put it this way Prime Klay Thompson is actually the perfect fit at at shooting guard for Denver Elite shoo he’s like kcp Elite Defender Elite shooter um and even more than kcp I feel he has the Michael Porter level of hot like I feel kcp could get hot and he there was times he got hot but clay had a he is second only to Steph Curry in the ability to get so hot that you just feel everything’s going in that guy’s probably gone but there’s some ruins of that guy still standing what do you think here you look at Klay Thompson’s stats from last year they were way better than the conversation around him seemed to be yeah 18 points per game he shot 39% from three on nine three-point attempts per game that’s first Michael Porter junor level Michael Porter 16.7 points per game so that’s more points per game than Michael Porter and what did he shoot from three 39% that’s what Michael shot 39 so in 77 games play a lot of games so Michael Porter 81 but right right um so you know it felt like the conversation around clay and again I wasn’t that tuned into the Warriors this year but it seemed like he just did not have a good season he didn’t I watched man I was watching The Warriors the numbers seemed like it was okay but I still side with the fact that he probably just didn’t have quote unquote a great season it blew me away when you shared that stat to be honest with you that many points in that that good from three it blew me away it is crazy um this one also doesn’t pass the smell test for me at all this one is even less believable to me to me than the Paul George rumor where is this money coming from that the nuggets are signing Klay Thompson well it might maybe that’s the key is that maybe the market has dictated that there actually isn’t anything for clay out there he’s going to take a $6 million taxpayer mid-level exception from the Nuggets maybe they really or unless the nuggets are also Sal dumping Zeke and like not signing anybody else and moving under the luxury tax the first apron I’m just saying there let’s not rule it out we don’t know the different moves or different things that are H that that could happen here I just want to explore the possibility of what would it mean if he was here in that kcp role now here’s the thing about Klay Thompson I saw somebody put it in the chat yic could unwash him that’s the reason you would make this bet is that you believe the Warriors run a different system than Denver by the way more offall movement and to be honest with you way more wild shot selection and that’s something he thrives under is running around and then getting the shots up I think Denver needs to add more of that to their game and if you got Klay Thompson and asked him to play like kcp just stand in the corner opposite Mike I think it’d be a waste of him in some capacity but that being said I do think there’s something to guys can get a second leg usually it’s only like a little shot like you get it for one or two more years and then they’re back down so I don’t know if he’s a Will Barton where it’s like once it goes It goes and he just has nothing left or if he is like hey a change of scenery new style of play gets along with the guys and he’s back on top and all of a sudden Clay’s the type of guy that it’s all about his confidence level and maybe he comes here and it’s like man I’m having fun again and there’s a second bounce I just I could see that as well I could see it too people thought Drew holiday was Washed by the way yeah a different type of wash different type of player but that was one of the things they said about him is his best days are behind him then he had a year that looked exactly like his Year from four years ago right and I think Klay Thompson fits in perfectly just with the Nuggets locker room he’s kind of a weird guy no boat though out here there’s nowhere to Nowhere to I know Cherry Creek Reservoir does not Stack Up The Bay little B little tiny circles on a little fishing boat yeah fre C water not quite the same there um but I feel like he he Vibes his personality his offc court Vibe really fits with joic Murray Gordon the core of this team yeah um so I think he fits in from that respect on court he could fill in the kcp role now like kcp to Clay I would still probably take kcp as a better fit um offensively Clay is probably going to give you more though defensively I think kcp is going to give you much more right I think that’s right um but again not a massive massive drop off there I don’t think you could still really have a similar identity uh swapping kcp for clay I would have a little concern about clay seems to be like battling his basketball mortality a lot lately he’s had some weird quotes about his career retiring the injuries he’s obviously played with you mentioned how his confidence has to be high for him to be really good in his role I would just be a little worried that like he’s just kind of trending down and I mean he because he because he is yeah and just like him mentally kind of just his disposition I wouldn’t be surprised if just like it’s just that bad Vibe with him if he’s playing badly all right what about this and it sounds like he wants the years he wants more of a security what if it was like a short term this is the Bruce Brown come here have a great year get sign a three-year deal next year you come rejuvenate your yeah then we can just talk about how can we sign the next Klay Thompson after that for the next couple years no that that’d be great that’d be great I don’t hate this one and but I also have my expectations so low about the Alternatives that I’m like if he fits into this tiny amount of wiggle room Denver has to spend right well the other alternative is like getting Eric Gordon like of course yes you would do this and Klay Thom is just one of my favorite players and I would love the idea of and the last piece of this for me that I think is Meaningful is I wouldn’t mind him teaching Denver off ball movement because Denver does not move off ball well strawther could take a lot from him strawther could take a lot from him by the way strawther could probably teach a lot from some people because he also moves off ball really well but Jamal Murray to me that’s one area he really needs to improve his game Michael Porter I don’t even think it’s a Michael Porter thing I think it’s a Denver a Michael Malone you know David adman thing Denver doesn’t have enough movement in their offense when I think they can add some things in there so I wouldn’t mind him coming in and Denver just working in some Klay Thompson pet plays that just so happened to become Michael Porter plays and Julian St pet plays and who knows maybe even Hunter Tyson pet plays I like Klay Thompson it’s probably worth it but only worth it to me on this idea of my expectations are so low that I’m willing to do it uh is there a third break today I can’t remember we do not have a third break okay that means I can go right in to our another rumor I’ve heard it’s more slop baby more slop another rumor and this one not from a source I’ve actually talked to before like this is the first time getting one here so okay so take it with a grain of salt but I have heard that Russell Westbrook is on the is on the radar Russell Westbrook and maybe I should even say that Denver is on Russell Westbrook’s radar that maybe he’s very interested in being Russell Westbrook potentially wants to come to Denver that in theory wants to and perhaps even is telling people that there’s a chance he you know hey I think that’s a place I’m going to wind up let’s just talk about Westbrook though here as a player Westbrook everybody hates picket everybody hates him is Westbrook kind of a super Reggie Jackson is he kind of the exact same thing of Reggie Jackson he’s just going to your bench is going to be the identity of the balls in his hands everybody just kind of watches him play but he’s still pretty fast yeah I mean when you have Russell Westbrook on your team you know when he’s on the court it’s the Russell Westbrook show yeah especially how it would Shape Up on the Nuggets he’d be captaining a bench unit with other not great offensive players it’d be the Russell Westbrook show that’s the scare the fear of Westbrook is he’s he is incapable of playing other ways he’s incapable he does not involve himself when the ball’s not in his hands like he is actually a decent catch and shoot three-point shooter never takes them and is never ready for them the ball gets out of his hands and he almost like just watches the game happen so he has had some traits in his career that have actually have driven me mad and he’s one of my least favorite players if I’m being full disclosure but again where are we at as a team right now what does Denver have so would that work the bigger question to me is Reggie played half his minutes with joic Westbrook played half of his minutes with yic one he would be that super Speedy downhill driver gets to the rim has strength finishes draws foul he can do all those things but would it actually be Det mental would the yic minutes kind of suck because Westbrook is out there shooting as much as him oh totally he could very well sabotage the beautiful yic ball that we have built this entire era of Nuggets basketball on yeah but in the nonic minutes they were so bad last year that I actually think Jaylen picket Manning the point would have gone better than they did in the Reggie Jackson minutes so of course Russell Westbrook playing point guard could go better than the Reggie Jackson minutes this season absolutely he also as somebody in the chat said the Nuggets do have a little bit of a lack of dog we’ve talked about it with from the Bruce Brown departure and I don’t even think it’s lack of dog I think it’s lack of like bravado you know it’s the like beating your chest this or that Westbrook is the top floor of that that’s all he has He’s Just Energy and and that mind frame so I think there’s something too like Don Holmes and Westbrook and your bench unit that’s two guy and Payton Watson three guys that are just going to be playing so hard and overwhelming and by the way with Tempo in the mile high city that I think you might win some games like that like I don’t know how it look but you might win some quarters because the other team is like damn man these guys are Relentless right now yeah and here’s another non-basketball reason why this makes some sense to me the Nuggets need a win right now like Calvin boot just needs a win he needs to win a headline right now oh oh I see I don’t know if he cares about that to be honest he might but I don’t know I don’t know if he does either but I bet there are other people in that building who are present about that well sure signing Russell Westbrook no matter like what his stats are no matter how he plays next season if it was in Denver no matter how he played last season like you’re winning the headline you’re winning that day on NBA Twitter if you signed Russell Westbrook I think you’d win that day with the Nuggets fan base so yeah I think it would be looked at as oh the Nuggets adding more Firepower how many how many people are going to show up to donon Holmes’s presser on Monday would you guess in the media about 20 20 how many would show up to Westbrook if he sides 200 people you never even seen before cover of the Nuggets will be in town for that one so you were right about that so I think you could win you know the press conference for lack of a better word with Russell Westbrook I think you know it would be looked at the narrative would be oh the Nuggets adding Firepower off their bench and the other thing is the Nuggets backup point guard roll and right now there’s a little bit of a vacancy we’ll see what happens with Jaylen picket but right now there’s a vacancy that should be I feel like one of the more coveted off thebench roles in the NBA if you’re a free agent I feel like there should be a line out the door from Chopper circle to the dmvr bar of point guards around the league wanting to sign up to play the backup point guard role in Denver you play on the Nuggets first of all next to Nicole yic even if you don’t spend all your minutes there or even a majority you spend a bunch of time next to Nico yic you’re going to post the best stats of your career you’re playing behind Jamal Murray who we know misses time during the regular season you’re going to play a big role like that seems like it’d be such a coveted role and I’m surprised it’s not yeah um Westbrook to me would be pure chaos oh yeah of all these guys that we talk even Klay Thoms and Paul George to me I kind of feel like I know how those would go the range is here Westbrook the range is as wide as you can get and I think if I if like I said gun to my head how would it go you got Westbrook how would it go I would be like I think it went poorly that would be my default guess the most likely guess so that one scares me to be honest there is also a world where is he the kcp replacement completely different neither three nor D but but he does bring like an element of offense and transition and Chaos like I don’t know I don’t think so what about this for Calvin Booth he pick it was his guy cleared out Reggie Jackson but bring in Westbrook that doesn’t track no it doesn’t track unless he thinks he plays alongside him and it’s like two point mean if you bring in Russell Westbrook you might as well just trade Jaylen picket because Michael mone’s not playing picket at all over Russell westbr West played in 82 games last year what do you think Russell West was going to play so true dude might never come off the court he play 45 minutes like wait we’re closing with Russell Westbrook over Jamal Murray I love I you’re right that this is the slop time of year but I’m kind of into it man it’s kind of funny like oh I’m not into it you’re not into it at all huh I’m not into Westbrook no what about the both what about Westbrook and Paul George the little the Clippers contingent over there we don’t want more Clippers that should not be a goal of this off season we don’t want to become more like the Clippers oh God it’s so true I want to wrap up by asking who got better here and there’s only two team like not a lot of stuff has happened the draft has happened I think there’s three teams that I can make an argument that I think as things sit right now and of course this is incomplete this is like judging a game at Halftime but I think there’s three teams that you make a case have gotten a lot better first one is obviously Oklahoma City they traded giddy who was on the outs anyway didn’t play that the he did wasn’t and they got Caruso who’s like a really good player they’re better and by the way wind I fear they’re going to sign isaah hardstein to me that’s a perfect landing spot for him and would allow them to be better against Denver because now you can do the Twin Tower thing but also against the other teams you can stagger those guys you can play them together and still space to me I look at that and they go just with Caruso they’re better and they still have all that cap space and all those picks to trade to add another major piece I think they’re unquestionably going to be better next year than they were this year how many games did they win last year 57 right they were tied with the Nuggets I could see them easily winning 60 games next year they’re one of the few teams I could see that they are a regular season Juggernaut now I think they still have some question marks in the playoffs what if they got hardstein it would clear up some of them but like I still don’t think they’re a better playoff team than the Nuggets uh regular season wise they are an absolute Beast absolute Beast I think that even in the playoffs especially you’re right that’s the center position but I just think they’re going to address that it would be crazy if they didn’t address that they will off season so they’ll address it and even if it’s like an Steven Adams or something like that or just like a 610 3 and D Reclamation project who also plays piano like would you do that would you do that well would you send him in division as bad as he’s been is that a trick question yes of course am I I worried about something Zeke Nai in division what I’m what the chat thinks the chat’s definitely on my side in this you’re worried about sending Zeke Naji in division I didn’t say that I asked you if you were here’s my thing I don’t think Zeke Naji sucks as bad as he is I think that there I don’t think he does either I think he could be a good player but I think he could be a good player the way Malik Beasley could be a good player where it’s like you don’t worry about that caliber of guy he went to Minnesota he made some shots whatever you’re not like lamenting Jared vanderbelt you know like oh my God we let that guy go I would have no problem with it and I only say that cuz I think I did hear that the Westbrook that Westbrook that the Thunder did have like some faint interest in Nai at one point smart front office the smart as some people say inter interesting huh interesting uh Dallas I think got better why they got my guy he’s going to be I don’t want to spoil this early candidate trading zek in division as a bonus good onea actually a really good one uh they should actually look to do that to do it call Portland Minnesota Utah um Dallas to me they got a guy who is early mock draft for my guy 2025 Captain Quinton Grimes I love him he’s like Josh green but but shoots the ball better in my opinion he’s got that dog in him I think that’s a good landing spot for him they got him for nothing they got him for the same price it cost Denver to get rid of Reggie Jackson three second rounders they added him to the roster but more importantly it allows them now to be able to retain or at least if they should they want to retain Derrik Jones Jr who was phenomenal for them this year added to their versatility so I look at them and I go oh they lost Tim Hardway Jr who they didn’t like anyway they didn’t want to have to play him um they were trying to get rid of him the same way the Thunder were trying to get rid of giddy right exactly they were both in the similar situation so I look at this and go they look like a team that’s going to run it back with their guys but added Quinton Grimes and Derrick Lively now a year older I whatever they’ll probably make moves from here but they have shown themselves Nico Harrison have shed himself in my opinion to be shrewd and he gets that team and I think they’re better as well yeah I’d agree and you know another year of Luca and Kyrie playing together another year Derek Lively gets of experience uh they’ve still got Gafford right yes so they still have a great rotation at Center and yeah like of course the Mavs are a team that want to run it back um why would you not I know this is crazy considering they just made the finals but it still feels like they need another piece to me at least um the last team in the west that I think got better do you have a guess who do you think’s gotten better oh well it’s not the nuggets at the moment we can rule them out at the moment um I like the sun’s draft but I mean they have not gotten better yet uh the Lakers you know new head coaching move I don’t think it’s them they made a know surprising move at 55 in the draft I don’t think it was them though um not the Clippers not the Kings Minnesota Minnesota to me is the team just because I think Dillingham is the type of guy that if you’re talking about an impact guy they have a lot of roster spots already locked up like they have a lot they need scoring they can’t score and they added a guy that I think is like yeah he’s going to be a fan favorite man that guy is going to be uh the darling of the NBA rookie class every year there’s a darling who’s like Dillingham yeah maybe Hae hawz was that this year or whatever I think dillingham’s going to be that guy will he help win them a title I don’t know about that go that far but I do think he’s going to be a guy that puts up 40 points in a game in his rookie season and everyone’s like what the hell yeah no Dillingham for sure and he’s going to get the opportunity um based on what Tim Connelly said after the draft you know he’s a one he’s a bus yeah uh so he’ll play and he’s kind of the exact change of pace guy that they needed there so there’s the spot we’re on and if signing him could be a negative and I think the I think that the collection of I I think more people than than what the fan base realizes thinks might not actually be better to have kcp coming forward so I I say all that to say I think the fan base views this very black and white I certainly think kcp needs to be back I have a hard time thinking Denver replaces him next
