who in the hell is klay Thompson guarding in 2024? What makes the nuggets good defensively is kcp and Aaron Gordon being able to guard the 2 best players on the opposing team. Kcp always guards the best guards if it’s the point guards or the shooting guard. Klay Thompson can’t do that at all anymore.

Maybe okay coming off the bench would be ok. I can see him putting in some scoring and critically promoting smart Basketball in the bench not just dunks but passing and thinking.
klay may not be a best shooter anymore but his brain isn’t mush and that can be useful.

Klay would EAT. Makes a clearer Klay/CB platoon for shooting or defense (and keeping CB’s extension number affordable?). Messy and KCP fits better but I can see it 🤷♂️

You lose defense on the perimeter but Klay, while inconsistent, can still shoot the hell out of the ball and he has good size. He is also extremely good at moving without the ball still and his role would be reduced, so it should mitigate some of the bad habits. If the money works then I’m ok with taking a flyer on him

I guess Klay could get hot from 3 and win us a playoff game but we are already lacking in the defense department with MPJ and Jamal Murray as our starters.
Alternativevly, Klay could also shoot us out of a playoff series to Cancun but we already did that to ourselves this year against the Timberwolves.

I don’t mind it for a short term rental at a reasonable price. I don’t have to like Klay to appreciate his shooting threat and BBIQ. CB is the primary guard defender now but his shooting HAS to come along or we’ll play 4v5 with teams sagging off him heavily. Klay even on ‘bad’ years is one of the best 3pt shooters ever seen in the NBA and Jokic creates open looks as well as anyone. MPJ learning to run off screens and disrupt defenses with movement like Klay was always how he’d have to reach his ceiling IMO.
If MPJ and Klay played a pseudo splash bros style then we are back as top contender even with a defensive setback. Watson, CB will be put in when we need to focus on that. Jamal and Jokic 2 man game with weak side screen action to free up Klay/MPJ is free buckets.

I don’t think it would be awful, people in here making it seem like this is the worst option ever. He’s not what he was but his team also wasn’t great this year. The open looks generated by Jok ball would generate much better looks that the offense he ran with last year.
Not great but also not awful. Like I said, he had a large slump last season but could bounce back well this upcoming season
