anyone who watches this and doesnt see how he will be an instant upgrade for us is crazy. His BBIQ, the way he always finds an open spot on the court for an open shot brings a tear to my eye. Look how he plays off Clingan. The second Clingan starts to get doubled, Castle was there for a free bucket. He throws full court passes for easy breakaways and hes great at feeding the post. His connection with Wemby should be instant.

People here should go watch Dejounte Murray college highlights (especially running the offense) and then compare to that to his all star year here. The way Pop turned Demar Derozan from pure SG to a SF/PF that was one of the most efficient playmakers in the league in his last year here. People should have close to zero concern that Pop isnt going to mold Stephon into a great PG. The future is bright.

I don’t think people realize what kind of player he is. They open up their browser, search stats, see the shooting percentage, and close their browser. That’s not remotely the story. This guy was operating Hurley’s sophisticated schemes alongside grizzled veterans and was arguably the second most important player. He never looked any different, as a freshman. He was effective all over the floor. He adjusted throughout games according to what they needed. He often carried the scoring load. Defensively, an absolute menace.

He excelled at every facet, at buy-in, at BBIQ, at competitiveness. I think he’s the best player in the draft and it’s not particularly close. All that without a jumpshot, which I have little doubt he’ll develop.

How does Castle’s play at UConn compare to Vassells at Florida? To me, Devin looked like a better individual on ball defender and better outside shooter. Castle looks more rugged and knows how to bang down low.

Watching Castle, particularly after knowing what kind of player he was and during this college season initially, It gets me so irrationally excited.

He was the best deffender on one of the best college teams in recent memory and he did absolutely positively a bit of everything.

Run pick and roll, operate in the inverted pick and roll, I said offball screens, run off screens, play patiently In the dunker spot, cut off ball to the basket, serve as a tough gritty rebounder, serve as a secondary ball mover, serve as a primary ball mover, score in the mid-range and short game, and spot up from distance.

Hurley’s system pretty much requires that every single person on the floor be able to shoot, pass, defend, and handle the ball. I’ve seen some people say that his overall stock was inflated by playing on such a talented team. But I push back against this. That’s one of the most complicated and demanding systems in college basketball.

The fact he was able to do so many things, and so many things well, in a system that typically requires years of experience, and is radically different than anything he’s had to plan before, just blew my mind this year.

Yeah one of the downsides is being asked to do so much, it Did occasionally show that there are certain things he’s not amazing at yet, And since he was rarely allowed to stay in a safe spot like a lot of premier prospects who teams let do their thing, build up their draft stock, and stay in their comfort zone.

There was nothing comfortable about what Castle was asked to do this year, and he’s still was stupidly important on again, one of the best teams in college basketball, modern history

I think a big mistake people are making with Castle making all of these comparisons to what he could be, what he is, based off what his play was this season

I honestly think he’s a giant ball of clay. I think there are so many aspects to his film this year that involve things. He is so baby. Fresh new, learning on the fly, and so many things. I believe he’s talented with that. He didn’t get a chance to utilize that it would be a mistake for us to really assume we know what this kid is or is going to be at the next level.

He’s a really smart basketball mind, with great measurables and tools, a fantastic work ethic, a fantastic intense attitude, and a whole lot of Dawg In him as the kids say lol

He could end up being a whole heck of a lot better than people think
