Spurs Add Stephon Castle To Victor Wembanyama & Trade Rob Dillingham To Timberwolves
what’s going on everyone so the San Antonio Spurs last year got their franchise guy in Victor wanyama uh they were able to land uh a real Cornerstone and already arguably a top 15 player getting into this NBA draft and it’s like okay who are they going to draft what is going to be the running mate alongside Victor kind of grow and establish this hopefully new Dynasty for the San Antonio Spurs I mean with Victor wiama you’re looking at multiple championships you’re not trying to win just one you’re trying to win four five six plus uh and there was several names kind of floating around uh and one of the guys that the San Antonio Spurs uh had on the radar tons of reports about it I even covered it here on the channel was Stefan castle that Stefan Castle uh the San Antonio Spurs were very interested in he’s the guy that I was kind of hoping that they draft I was kind of pushing for I just really like his skill set his versatility him being willing to do the Dirty Work and sacrifice I just think he’d be great out there on the perimeter on both sides of the basketball that’s who the San Antonio Spurs ultimately ended up drafting at number four um this in my opinion was a great pickup especially given the landscape especially giving uh who was left out there right you got uh vassel that is there uh right got Victor whama obviously they’re looking for a point guard which they drafted and ended up trading and we’ll touch on that that here in a moment uh which was really surprising to me but again we’ll touch on that here more in a moment but now you can kind of start seeing this roster taking shape um I still think that they need to get either a center uh and move Victor to the four or get a four and keep Victor at the five got to get a point guard so there’s still some work to do if you’re the Spurs but getting Stefan Castle I mean you he said it himself right he’s a proven winner he’s a guy that knows how to win he did it this year he’s he’s got a good head on his shoulders he’s a guy that I think is going to be very versatile I wouldn’t be shocked and I said this before I wouldn’t be shocked if we look back in 3 to five years and he’s the best player in this draft I mean he has all the skill sets all the tools basically everything you could want from that type of prospect but also in a very surprising move the San Antonio Spurs drafted Rob Dillingham which I was stoked for I was like oh man now you got you got your point guard for now in the future and Rob Dill Dillingham right yeah on top of that got vassel you got uh Castle right you got uh Victor wi minyama really start seeing this take shape like this is looking really good let’s go I thought this was huge and then we got the report that Dillingham was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves first off this is huge for Minnesota cuz Minnesota they now get somebody that can eventually step up and take the the starting spot from uh Mike Conley and now you got kind of your backcourt pairing between Rob Dillingham and um uh Anthony Edwards so now you got some real speed athleticism versatility out there in your back court uh which I think is huge for Minnesota and their plans try to win an NBA championship um now the San Antonio Spurs on their end I don’t know like I I I get why they traded it so basically they traded it for a uh for two one protected one unprotected pick uh so that okay fine but I don’t know I just I almost feel like I’d rather have Rob now the idea is that like if this Minnesota’s good for a couple years and then in 2030 right hopefully they’re terrible and maybe you get a lottery pick then or you kind of Stack some picks that you can now use to go and leverage and make a trade and pull off for a guy you know like a Darius Garland or you know maybe you’re going and taking dejonte Murray right maybe they want kind of more of the veteran route because you have such a young team kind of bring in a more experienced more veteran L guard rather than a young guy that’s going to kind of go through his hurdles go through his hiccups I I could I could maybe see that um I mean this this is a good move by San Antonio right I mean they they’re getting two future firsts one’s completely unprotected so even if it lands number one they get it the other one is you know lightly protected so they’re getting basically two quality what could be quality picks that now they can use to go and and pull off some type of trade or make some big splash or kind of hold on to for you know a rainy day but I don’t know I I kind of I really like The Pick of Dillingham he was a guy that the Spurs were apparently really on also and they wanted to kind of keep around um so little little surprising there if I’m being honest but nonetheless look they got Castle you got Victor wanyama you got basically your two Foundation pieces going forward obviously they still have a bunch of other young Talent um but Castle is the guy that you you’re drafting after Victor that these two guys are supposed to be the foundation are supposed to be the future uh for this organization so I I look I like the move of drafting Castle um he’s the guy that I was kind of hoping that that they would end up acquiring um you know I I do think if uh you know Nicole atopic if he didn’t get hurt he may have end up being the pick you’re seeing him really starting to slide really starting to fall uh as you know with injury concerns happen but Castle was a guy again I think you know in three four years we might look back and go man he was the best player in that 2024 draft I just think he has all the skill sets all the tools he’s a dog the thing that I like the most that you saw Gonzaga was or at Yukon um the things that you saw at Yukon were were him willing to do the dirty work doing the hustle plays you know chasing down the ball sacrificing his body diving on the ball right like he he was a guy that showed he’s willing to do anything and everything in order to um you know win like he just wants to win so I did I thought that this was a a really solid pickup uh I’m excited to see the future of Castle and see what how do they how does he pair alongside and play Under pop system how does he play alongside Victor wanyama how does he play alongside vassel what does this mean for uh Calvin Johnson right this kind of mean that he’s out does this mean that he’s more likely than not getting traded um you know Spurs are are very set up right they’re very they’re in excellent shape um so I’m excited to see how this all takes place but anyway as always this is a discussion I pass a question on you let me know your thoughts and opinions down in the comments below what do you think how do you feel what were your thoughts uh first off what are your thoughts on the Spurs actual draft pick in drafting uh Stefan Castle do you really like the pick do you not do you wish that it was somebody else and then secondly what did you think of the trade uh what were your thoughts on uh the Spurs trading or drafting Rob Dillingham and then trading him to the Minnesota Timberwolves for two future firsts um are you excited for that do you think like hey that was a great move great steal great opportunity for the Spurs now they have you know a very compelling package to go get a star or go get you know some real complimentary pieces um you know are they potentially gearing up for a Darius Garland because there’s a lot of talks and expectations that Donovan Mitchell is going to opt in you know if if or or sign a new extension not opt in but if he does sign a new extension then Darius Garland if he ends up out Spurs have a ton that now they can kind of use to to package together to maybe go make and pull off for Darius Garland um this does kind of feel like maybe that’s a a a position that they’re putting themselves in to go make a splash for a actual point guard because it’s just like look San Antonio they need a point guard right they do they need a point guard so the fact that they need a point guard and yeah drafted uh a guy that with ham could be um you know basically your your point guard for now and the future I think it’s kind of interesting that um that they would then go and trade him uh for a bunch of future picks unless they have a plan or at least a an idea of what they want to do and what they’re looking for right my guess is that they’re they’re gearing up to go make a push for like I said a Darius Garland or maybe it’s a dejonte Murray maybe even Trey Yun right I mean there’s talks still about Trey potentially going to the Spurs I I I kind of agree with some of the reports that Trey that the Spurs aren’t interested because Trey isn’t a Spurs system player which I do agree with but I mean he is one of the best Playmakers in the game if not the best playmaker I mean you talk about a guy that averages 25 and 12 playing alongside Victor could be tough but does he take away from like vassel and castle and all these other guys right like that’s something with him just being so ball dominant so heavy on ball um it’s a question at least worth asking but again uh how do you feel I’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions uh let me know down in the comments below uh do you love the moves do you hate the moves somewhere in between again however you feel whatever your thoughts are I’d love to hear it so let me know down in the comments below that being said if you haven’t liked this video hit that like button helps me a lot me enjoy these types of videos and I truly appreciate it if you’re it was actually good decision for trading the 8th pick for some future 1st pick spurs org know they dont have any chance to get another lottery pick o 1st round pick anymore because they are now on a mission to be a top seed again
Terrible trade you’re looking to build now you could’ve traded that eighth pick for a good player
Future spurs pg is nolan traore soon
Castle is going to be our pg now
The 2 picks will bw traded back in 2-3 years when they get more valuable
This trade made absolutely no sense.
with that rob dillingham trade we save like 5million of cap space for this season. im not really mad, i think they really want to draft salaun but charlote picked him at 6, so they just traded the pick
Castle, blake, Devin, sochan, wemby. Hopefully we can get another defense sg/sf
What people forget is the 8th pick was a freebie so picking up 2 1st rd is big W 👌 def those late picks will be use in a superstar trade please be a booker, Luka, or Maxey caliber player.
It was just sad for dillingham.. he really looked like he wanted to go to San Antonio
I hated the trade at first, but it does make sense if the Spurs already have other plans for trades or free agents. Plus, not good to have two rookies fighting for the starting PG position. Castle made it clear that he wants to be THE PG for a team that needs a PG.
The Spurs are trying to build a dynasty…not a one and done team. That takes some patience. I can see Castle becoming a legit star in the NBA.
Rob will be good if his size doesn’t hinder him.
Wemby is getting fitted for his Lakers uniform as we speak. 5 min after his rookie contract expires he’s gone. He’s going to get tired of losing quick.
The Spurs just drafted a PG um why would they trade for another PG?? No offense but don’t understand your logic. Castle has been crystal clear that he wants to play the point.
If fans had their way, the Spurs wouldn't even be able to land Wemby and will remain stuck in mediocrity.
This team knows what they are doing. Two first round picks are great assets to have to trade for quality players.
Rob Dillingham isn't going to help the team win now no matter how much hype he comes with. He's a rookie and undersized. If Spurs don't need Trae, they won't need Rob.
This team knows the window to compete is in two to three years' time, not now. Wemby still need to develop, as crazy as it may sound, and development will be hampered when a team is in win-now mode.
It is the media that tries to trump up the win-now urgency just to create narratives to sell hype.
Yes, casuals will be impatient and impatience is what separates good from great.
Victor Wembanyama wants to win now…..and San Antonio responded with: "How about we win in 10 years from now?" 🤣
There's no way San Antonio keeps these picks lol. I would be surprised if they didn't use them as leverage to land someone else eventually. Maybe not right now, but at some point for sure. I could be wrong, but if they plan on holding on to them, that's going to take a lot of persuading to convince Wembanyama to stay long term lol.
If I was Wemby, I would be thinking that this has potential to be the Kawhi Leonard situation all over again. Where they do what they think is best for the Organization, and not for the player. And that is not a recipe for keeping the player you want. Back in the day when San Antonio won all those championships, nobody was leaving their team, requesting trades, opting out of contracts, etc. Nowadays, it's all you ever see or hear about. If San Antonio plans on treating things like they did back in the day and not adapting with the times, there could be a very good chance that they lose Wembanyama in the future if they aren't careful.
Our new Bowen….but a better shooter…
I think and hope they are cooking up a trade coming soon, that is why they traded Rob. If they get a solid all star small forward or pf, that move will be great.
Honestly I would have taken Salaun and then Topic at 8.
They can wait for Topic.
They can put something together for a vet guard (CP3) to help out Jones.
They could sneak in on Klay because this brings culture to the team without compromising the future.
A big huy like Saric who is no fuss, but all about the team could work as well. I'm no expert, but I yhink that the Spurs might have botched it.
Why not take another big with that pick instead of rob if you’re gonna waste on a trade. Need depth not picks in 6 yrs
You sleeping on Jeremy Sochan at the 4
Robby D is going to be a stud, Spurs dropped the ball Wemby will bolt to be a Laker
pretty sure we're gonna start Castle at PG
great video for this crazy trade
Castle is the PG
Rob learn the first rule of the grade
Nothing personal it’s just business
Dillingham and Ant attack will be insane
Not only are the Spurs cheap but they are stupid. You help the competition in Minnesota? smh
I like Tre Jones as the PG/BackupPG for our future so I dont mind them trading Dillingham. Jones is a dawg on defense as well. He knows how to use his hands and feet. Defense is gonna be tought this upcoming season. Just give Tre time. Big Trust!!!
No more "Stephon". New nickname must be "Storm"
STORM CASTLE!
Absolutely shocking the Spurs got such little in return for a top 10 pick. “This was a weak class” is overblown when arguably the best shot creator with offensive star potential is given up for unknown picks so far down the road. He could have been the 8th pick in a stacked class. Class means nothing, it’s the player that matters. Fills the most needed role for the Wolves, when it wasn’t clear how they would possibly fill it. This was a checkmate move by Tim Connelly who strikes again. Dude is running a master class at GM.
In 6-7 years time spurs will be winning championships and wont have anything close to lottery picks. They're probably looking to have one more year of high quality draft picks before beginning their run for it. Stashing their drafts like this will allow Wemby's Spurs to have the longevity of Duncan's. I think it's a very smart move
You guys do realize thet have FOUR 1st rd picks next year, right? They already selected a PG. Next year's draft is better. They acquired more trade bait by adding another 1st. Winning now doesn't include surrounding Wemby with a bunch of young players…. especially when the team is already young. They will trade some picks for vets soon. Those wolves picks more valuable later. Rather have those picks than 3 of thier upcoming 1st which will likely be later in the round. Relax!
I don't mind the trade. I mind the fit. He's a big guard, and can play defense. But we don't know if he can play PG at an NBA LEVEL. Not saying he can't we just don't know. And he's a NON SHOOTER from what the reports say. So he's Sochan right now pretty much. So it's a wait and see right now I guess
I think spurs getting sneaky with this. Cuz if you think about it they got 2 draft pick 2k30 2k31 they didn't need the 8 pick next year they got a tone of pick on a better draft set. Why getting another contract when theyre cleaning the roaster. Good cap space tones of pick that can be package to buy vet or additional key players on the bench. They trying to build an all around competitive team they wanna make sure to not overstretched vic min and potential injury, and having a second roaster that can easily stand on business playoffwise. So after next years we gone see the real spurs team. The only things is the team needs to catch up on vic cuz hes pretty much an all star already vassel is almost there but other than that, there are a lot of improvements needed for the rest of the squad.
Vassel (Va cell) lol
Stephon really fits the way we play, and we really needed a great perimeter defender alongside wembys interior defense
My only issue with the trade is I thought Buzelis would be perfect on this team and he was right there to get. And i would have preferred those picks be a lil sooner, maybe in 27-29
Not a single word about Sochan xD How the fuck? Castle is the guy who changes Sochan the most. Now Castle protects 1-3, Sochan gets 5-4 which he is the best in. Now Spurs has insane two defenders, and after those two there will always be a final boss Wemby. Spurs gets huge upgrade.
Stephen is the point guard. He was always a point guard and sacrificed by playing off ball at uconn.
ngl i don’t think it’s a big deal we traded rob , only cause imo i feel they had to decide who is cheaper between him or tre jones , now im not saying tre is better but he has shown he is a great fit for this team. Now i feel either way we shouldn’t expect to be in win now for another couple of years , i get it we don’t have pop for much longer but we cant try to rush this team either
I love this trade. It was like okay let’s choose the lesser of 2 evils kind of thing, who are we gonna have the least time trying to develop in our system and honestly it’s a no brainer with castle. With character, and just pure IQ of both ends. If wemby and castle click, then in 2 years we will see the beautiful game yet again.
If they planned on trading 8 they should have moved down and drafted nikola topic to stash he plays similar to a young manu.
Btw we didn’t trade Dilly for the picks. We traded picks and Minnesota asked us to pick Dilly for them.
If anyone has been paying attention to the Spurs over the past couple of years, they really value big guards. Dejountay Murray, Joshua Primo, Derrick White, etc. Hell, they even experimented with Jeremy Sohan at pg. They clearly want a big guard who can play at both ends, which is why they drafted Castle. Connect the dots.
Traded a bench player for 2 1st picks? Alright that’s just logical
Edit: also think Stephon is going to be the best player in this draft, his ceiling is an all defensive juggernaut, let’s see how he develops
That #4 pick is solid
Castle slow as enchilada cheese, Rob would have been "Payton and Kemp" with Wemby, shame. What NBA team needs a Slow Point Guard?? Rob was like next Iverson.
spurs could have got the wolve 1 in 2024 or 2 round wolves were desperate and still get 2031 pick and 2030 pick swaps
