have a day one free agency recap so I’m not going to talk too much about that in this show we’ll do that uh later on um and then yeah a bunch of stuff coming this week remember yes it is impossible to grade drafts before the draft has happened we’re still going to go through and assess what what sorry before the players have played a year 2 years 3 years four years like it’s impossible but we’re going to talk about the selections they made I’ve I’ve got a grading scale um on these selections this is not to do with Dynasty fantasy basketball we did the dynasty rankings the other day uh just talking about how I view these players and then we do a reassessment of a bunch of stuff after summer league and then it’s always reassessed every day we’re always looking at new information that is how all of this stuff works in the fantasy game the NBA game Sports whatever we’re always taking new information we’re always reassessing let’s talk Northwest not the um Kanye Kim Kardashian Offspring progeny that’s the right word I think we’re talking about the Northwestern division in the NBA um and we are going to start with and I said I was going to talk fore agency but I’ll give you a little spoiler we’re talking Denver Nuggets and this cheap cheap team is annoying me no end absolutely frustrating but we’ll talk about that in the free agency show what did the Denver Nuggets do in the 2024 NBA draft well they made a pre-draft promise which again I think some of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard but they did it they traded up to get the guy that they promised and that was Dron Holmes II now I I like Dron Holmes I think that there’s value in him he is a high usage Center um coming out of Dayton I think he can defend okay he’s a pretty strong rebounder he can shoot the three a little bit it made sense to bring him in as a as a backup to Nicola yic Unfortunately they also resigned DeAndre Jordan for i’ have literally no idea Vibes I’m guessing it’s Vibes and I hope that homes is able to grab that job at Dayton 27 points per 40 minutes over a three that’s a lot man 1.33 is for a center is not like it’s not huge but it’s more than like Mattis balis it’s more than Ron Holland it’s more than somebody else we’re going to talk about in this show as well 11 rebounds 2.7 blocks 3.4 assist he’s going to have to tone the usage down but I like him I like getting homes there I think he’s a really solid fit I would have loved for him to go to say even in New Orleans uh a pick earlier but didn’t happen did it what I really like is I was pretty high on Trey Alexander he was a well not what he was he is he’s like a 64 guard who can play shooting guard and can play up at the wing a little bit more he played point guard for kraton last season like 21 years of age and he fell undrafted so like I had him in the 20s I had him at number 24 just behind Holmes and my board who I had at 22 and he went at 22 but it is important to remember that a lot of guys who don’t get drafted in the second round there’s going to be two of these guys especially in this division we talk about them falling outside of the 58 actual draft picks does not mean that the league viewed them as the 59th 6th 65th best player so much of what goes on in the second round is Agents negot iations and saying don’t draft my guy we’ve got a two-way set up somebody somewhere else teams are often drafting players who will accept certain conditions in the second round so I wouldn’t be shocked Maybe I’m Wrong I would have taken Trey in the first round obviously i’ him at 24 but whatever but I I wouldn’t be surprised if Trey Alexander moving to Denver is because they knew an opportunity was opening up and K’s C hopers left and he can fill in that role in the future they play him on a two-a to this begin the year convert the contract later on getting ready for the playoffs I would not be surprised about that at all so I love them getting trade there is a huge opportunity they traded away Reggie Jackson they’ve let contav cwell Pope walk in free agency there is a big opportunity there they also I think did the same with PJ Hall who’s a little bit of an older Prospect but a shooting big man like like think David Lee with a more versatile three-point shot him coming in on 2way as a Michael Porter Jr Aaron Gordon is type backup look he’s not going to play as much cuz pton Watson still there but I think that’s really good value they also got the third Jaylen Williams the Tiger jayen Williams from Orbin on an exhibit 10 not a two-way I had him 92 had PJ 67 they also made a couple of other signings an exhibit 10 to jir Young and an exhibit 10 to glab mclan who I did not have either of those guys ranked so overall that is a pretty strong I think it’s a pretty strong draft Hall overall getting um you know dayon at that spot you the trading up whatever I’m not really considering that part of it huge amount but getting PJ Hall getting Tre Alexander on two ways who I thought of pretty good value signing Jaylen Williams and that value of Dron Holmes is there they actually do they they do they qualify for two Jerry wests so that’s that’s to me a really strong draft in for reference to Jerry W Jerry wests is when I look at it they get a score of 80 over 100 and they got like 81 so they were over the over the margin there so they get that good for them really strong draft I think for the Denver Nuggets good for them for be be abling to uh get some value in because when we do the free agent show later on I’m not probably going to be as um kind or gracious in my evaluation of what they do today’s episode is brought to you by Fel sports book we all love sports what else are we doing here if we don’t right and in the summertime over in the states things slow down but we do have major league baseball full steam ahead WNBA Summer League games but everything’s not as busy as it normally is but Fel is going to give you something to keep you in the mood for sports and that is a bonus or a boost every single day and it is not for new customers it is for all customers so every single day every customer gets either a bonus or a boost over at fandel Sportsbook every day all summer long so go to f.com logdon and start making the most out of your summer Fel is an official Sports B partner of Major League Baseball and don’t forget to gamble responsibly okay so let’s go into the second team I’m going to look at here and that is the min inota Timol who made a uh a bold Gambit they made a bold Gambit in the draft and traded up and I I love it right giving away a 2030 pick Swap and a 2031 I think the Pix swap was top one protected and the 31 was unprotected but understanding where they’re at financially Tim Connelly knows that being able to add a player of this potential quality at this salary slot is only really possible through the draft so that’s what he did he traded up to number eight and got Rob Dillingham now Dillingham is really short we should know this by now he is a fantastic shot Creator a very good shooter struggles a lot defensively an underrated passer a pretty good passer and I was excited to see that the Spurs might get him at eight because having Victor behind him is a great opportunity to help some of his defensive issues having Rudy go behind him is not quite as good but it’s very close the problem here probably is that by the time the Dillingham is starting a year two years go may not be on the team or may have declined significantly in theory that that’s an issue but they had problems with their backup point guard all year with guys like Shake Milton and Monte Morris Dillingham probably gets a chance straight away to be the backup behind Mike Conley 1819 minutes a night fill in when Conley misses time Conley was incredibly healthy last season doesn’t mean that’s going to always be the case Rob and ant next to each other Edwards has got some size and some defensive ability I I think dilling is able to fit into this system pretty well but also be a really strong player coming off the bench it’s going to take time for a big roll though he averaged 24 points with three threes per 40 minutes in Kentucky came off the bench along with Reed Shepard he shot 44% from three six assists and 1.6 deals these are all really solid numbers I had him number four on my board so I I like it obviously that that’s a a strong pick it is a little bit to give up and you never know what’s going to happen in 2031 that is just so far away that’s impossible to really understand what that means but that’s where we’re at and then we knew that what we talked about we did this Timberwolves season review and said look at these team the first best team in defense but 16th in offense and it’s really hard to be a championship level team if you don’t sort of have at least both of those being top 10 and we talk that’s part of the reason I didn’t even pick them to win their first round playoffs as I thought that the offense would be a significant issue through the playoffs and it was but not until later on so the two picks that they made were two really offensive focused ones and one of them was Teran Shannon Jr at number 27 I picked Shannon at 27 to the wolves in my predictive mock I have him a little bit lower at number 39 he’s an older Prospect he’s about 24 he’s a very good scorer I worry about some of the other things he shot pretty well last season I think 36% from three but he’d been at like 32 the other season so that’s iffy I don’t know what he’s like what he’s going to be able to do as a as a shooter sorry as a passer as a Defender and again he is older and a lot of his bigger numbers came this season he stayed in college like four or five years now he did beat the false allegation rape charge so you good for him and that would have been really tough to to be dealing with that sort of stuff put up really good numbers in the in the uh tournament but again this is an advanced age player he’s going to be you not playing a gigantic role I wouldn’t have thought there’s Alexander Walker there’s Edwards there’s Conley and Dillingham so he’s probably not going to be an every night player not a bad value at that spot their two-way guy was Jesse Edwards I had him at 73 that’s about right I guess and then they for summer league they signed Tyler wall wall I guess that’s how I pronounce that he um I didn’t have him ranked and then they also had Jaden Le at uh for a summer league deal who I had at number 86 so some pretty decent numbers there I think for the Wolves overall I give them one Jerry West pretty good I didn’t love the Shannon pick so that dropped it down a little bit it was on the borderline of being a um of being a double Banger Jerry West but we just end up with the single there and in the end the gra don’t mean anything we know this I hope you know that let’s talk about the third team in the Northwest division it is the Oklahoma City Thunder they made Moves as every team did but this team is always trading around and taking players and doing the things that you don’t expect that they’re going to do the thunder in a win now mode they need rebounding so what do they do take the injured point guard who’s not going to play All Season cool deep voice Legend Nicola topic slid I had him at number six he goes at number 12 12 topic is a guy that I was much higher on then a lot of stuff started to come out the ACL injury which doesn’t bother me massively it bothers me a little bit here on this team honestly given that like hey let’s do something with this pick I worry that he could have some of the concerns that Josh giddy had although he was like an 88% free throw shooter I believe over in Europe he averaged eight assists per 40 minutes 21 points 1.73 I think he might be able to develop into a shooter but the negative wingspan or or the zero wingspan the size is fine but I worry some bad of his finishing and I think there might be some of the issues that giddy had and he’s not going to play this year so there are some issues with that I think I think that you know someone like a case and Wallace is still a much better Prospect than what Nicola topic is personally um but you’re getting top pitch at number six o as an overall value play that’s really strong on this team given he won’t play Given what they sort of needed or where they’re sitting it’s a little iffy to me so I I did downgrade that somewhat in terms of fitwise and someone left a comment which is a completely valid comment on one of my videoos saying Josh like when you’re picking in the lottery or the top five what he said you really got to ignore fit and I do agree with that to an extent um but I think when we’re talking about players in certain tiers that’s where fit more comes into it and he was more talking about me downgrading the Pistons for the Ron Holland selection which again I really like the Ron Holland selection for the Pistons because I had him number two but it was probably the worst spot he could have gone to this one here not the worst spot that topit could have gone to because it’s fine there’s there’s a pos positive position available at some point it was more like the Thunder given what you sort of where you’re sitting or what you need I didn’t love that at 26 they picked Dylan Jones traded up up for Dylan Jones I hadit him at 55 honestly this might be my second least favorite pick in the first round Jones’s numbers are astonishingly good rebounds points uh assists defensive stats he did everything for the last two years or so play playing for weever state in what is it the Big Sky Conference but it is a very low standard of competition he can’t really shoot he’s like an undersized power forward sort of a player he’s a pretty good rebounder and they need rebounds so that’s interesting but I think that a lot of the numbers that Jones puts up and we even saw him playing at the combine scrimmages he like struggled really big time I this does not seem to feel a particularly strong need again the rebounding but I worry that Jones’s other stuff is just going to have no no ability to translate over to the NBA so I I honestly didn’t like this pick and while Sam pry is probably the best GM in the NBA there’s him there’s um he’s the best isn’t he I’m trying to think who else would be Brad Stevens is definitely up there too I would say that prey’s draft record has been spotty at times there’s there’s hits for sure Jaylen Williams big hit I think Cas Wallace is going to be a hit poku not a hit still would have picked him but actually wouldn’t have because shenon was there so I would have gone with shenon probably at that spot um you know there there are misses everywhere Josh hustus there’s plenty of misses and and I think that this is a miss again AJ Mitchell at 38 I had AJ at 34 an older point guard playing at a lower level of competition I think his abilities translate more across than Dylan Jones’s do some real um value in terms of driving to the paint some shooting ability could he play a role with Josh giddy not there initially I wouldn’t be surprised now pressy has had a lot of success with second rounders claiming guys like Isaiah Joe drafting Aaron Wiggins that sort of a player Mitchell I I do really like that pick as a two-way guy they grabbed Aussie Legend Alex dukar is it dukar or ducas I don’t even know he’s Australian I think it’s Ducar I him at 112 um on an exhibit 10 they had uh mevy Leons at 95 oh I had him at 95 they signed him on an exhibit 10 that’s not bad they had kmack Ryan on an exhibit 10 which is like fine I didn’t have Cormac Ryan ranked but they had a a big group of guys because they also grabbed uh Trey Mitchell on a summer league deal who I had at 108 summer league uh contractor Jack gy that uh that shooter that you all may remember from the tournament and then Clarence Daniels thei oh I had at 118th he signed to a summer league deal as well unfor I know Sam PR is great I know you can give him the benefit of the doubt I I do get that but I am he did slide under the the threshold he gets one Isaiah Thomas the threshold is 50 they graded out as a 49 it’s borderline but I don’t like the Jones pick the top pitch pick is fine value-wise but for what this team is and where they sit I think there are things you could have done differently so yeah they get the one Isaiah Thomas I didn’t want to do it but there we go one Isaiah Thomas for the Oklahoma City Thunder so let’s look at the um at the other teams in the Northwest division now that was how many teams is that that that’s three we’ve done is it three yeah it’s three let’s talk about the Portland Trailblazers who were looking to move up in the draft to pick Donovan Kling and they made they made a um trade before the draft trading for Denny AIA and giving away pick 14 which is one of the deals that came in the um in the Drew holiday deal trading Drew out overall part of the package for Damen Lillard so they traded that away along with the future first and some seconds to get Denny abier in but in the end the guy that they wanted to pick number seven was still there and that is Donovan kinger now you got to feel that they’re going to have to do something because part of what they did last season in the little transaction was bring DeAndre Aton over to replace Yousef nurkic part of what they did in the Damien L trade was bring Robert Williams over and all three of those players Aon Williams and kingan play the same position now theoretically you could say that maybe Rob plays the four not really maybe Rob can never play again also lock legitimately possibility no idea about his knes maybe Aon plays the four he thinks he can I think it’s a terrible idea but I think they’re going to have to but then that leads to the situation you brought in aier you brought in Grant who are going to have to play the three and the four as well so unless there’s other moves coming I don’t really know what the role is for kingan but also my part of my problem with kingan and I don’t have a huge problem with him going at seven I had him at number nine overall so it’s not that big a difference but I think kingan’s ceiling is relatively Limited his numbers are great 24 points almost 14 rebounds per 40 minutes 4.5 blocks crazy he’s an unbelievably good rim protector he can’t jump I worry about him on the perimeter I worry about him switching I worry about just his ability even finish lobs because he’s inability to jump I worry about his inability or to stay on the floor from through injury which is through college but he just played like 23 minutes a night as this allegedly top three Prospect which a lot of people thought he was um who led a national title team he didn’t even start as a freshman solid pick good enough floor weird spot obviously aan is not him we know that the uh shoveling Legend what do I call him the snowman he’s not him we know this but it gives you a weird balance of where your roster sits and the impact of kingan initially is going to be weird I don’t hate the pick is totally fine the fits a little odd but again long term kingan is probably going to be better than Aon just a very different sort of play player and we’ll see where this takes them and that was it they traded away their other picks to get Danny aier in again pretty good result with an exhibit 10 they signed allate yongi CH who’s also goes by Jackie from the Chinese League I think from Guang Jong from memory ad at number 75 okay that’s fine and then Quinn Alice British Legend wow you know what what a draft we get Donan King it and then a Chinese player and a British player that’s not a combination that I reckon has literally ever happened in an NBA draft Hall I had Quinn at number 83 I think he’s a left-handed guard he’s on a summer league deal that’s the three guys that they brought in totally totally fine with all that that gets them one Jerry West as much as there’s cons confusion about the kingan how he fits with Aon and all that sort of stuff the value is there it’s a totally okay pick Jackie and Quinn are fine as undrafted free agents not a problem solid enough draft hall for the Portland Trail Blazers and then we go onto the final team which is the Utah Jazz who found themselves with a string of early picks well early I guess early three picks in the first three picks in the first um 32 selections of the draft so let’s have a look what they did at number 10 they went with Cody Williams from Colorado Jaylen Williams as a brother now one thing this does for sure is it fits a big positional need for the Jazz because they they have no for now there’s talk that they may be open to trading Larry Markin and I don’t know what they’re going to do there’s they’re an interesting team I want to see more minutes for Taylor Hendricks next season probably needs a few little things to break right for that Williams is a player that there are people who really love him and then there’s people like me and there are others like us there are dozens of us who are a bit worried about what sort of a player this turns out to be the size is there but some of these numbers are very passive we talk about on Holmes earlier averaging 1.33 per 40 minutes Cody Williams averaged one 13 per 40 minutes and this is for a guy who shot the ball Lo really very well at the begin the season was cracking at an unbelievable Pace but that’s an incredibly low volume of Threes the one block per game is interesting per 40 0.9 block 0.9 steals is low four rebounds two assists 17.2 points they are all very pedestrian sort of numbers he had a very hot start to the season he had multiple injuries he had a very slow second half to the season I worry that he’s just a bit of a nothing player which is that’s fine in this draft that’s the same sort of worries I have with risset I had ret higher than Cody Williams I had Cody at 19 the positional size the age is all strong there’s a track record coming in as a high school high level high school recruit which I like as well I just especially even full fantasy yeah I’m a bit worried about where Cody fits I just don’t know which of these skills pops like does he become a volume scorer volume shooter high level rebounder big defensive stats guy I’m not sure about any of those things I I I worry that he becomes like a an invisible sort of wing who defends okay but also at the moment his defensive stuff is not very good he is not a good Defender at this point he could develop into that I don’t hate the pick but obviously there are other players I would have picked at number 10 instead of Cody Williams the next one is Isaiah Kia they had a pick at number 29 Kia slid a lot but there were Whispers of him sliding before the draft there also Whispers of Ron Holland and Rob Dillingham sliding and that didn’t happen but Kia slid a lot I will give a Kia averaged 21 points per 40 minutes with 1.3 Tribbles and cola’s considered a bad shooter still hit more threes than Cody Williams almost four rebounds almost six assists almost two steals three blocks he’s a bad free throw shooter I don’t think the Coler is going to become a very good shooter he might become pass I love that his free throw rate was very high he attacked the rim he drew fouls a lot didn’t hit them that well I worry about his shooting stuff I think he’s a pretty good passer he came in as the number one high school recruit in this class and slid a lot but also the USC situation was a joke there was the bronny James stuff with his heart there was just the team being dysfunctional Boogie Alis was there as well the whole team fell apart and Kia could have and should have been better at keeping it together but also that negative situation I think impacted some of his efforts some of his um frustrations and some of the negative feedback that I think teams got about him I won’t say his personality but some of the effort stuff or all the immaturity issues potentially with Kia I would have in a draft like this I would have taken the chance on him so much higher I had him at number 11 so I think that is a massive massive W to get Kier at 29 kont George I think can play alongside Kier I think ker has got more a chance of being a starting point guard but also maybe all of this stuff that teams let him slide and I think part of what happens also is that some teams might think he’s going high and they don’t do enough work on him and they’re in his middle range and they go what do we do with col we haven’t looked at him why teams let him go we haven’t done the work how do we let it go and I think that well that’s exactly what happened with Cam Whitmore last year is that a lot of these teams like we thought he’d be gone we don’t know enough which again is I how that is that feels incompetent to me if I’m able to do enough work on oh that’s not I don’t do enough work the same work as free agents or sorry as front officers do but like surely you got some sort of an idea as a front office you some of these teams bring 80 players in for workouts but you don’t know what cam whitmore’s about you don’t know what col is about it seems weird but it happens too often anyway colier at 29 a impossible to say that that is not a steal it or very much may not work out like it just might he might not be good he may not shoot he might not defend he might not play with any effort and he might be just a complete prick I don’t know that but that I I love getting him there the other one that I love is Kyle filipowski at number 32 I would have yeah he was in consideration for me as a lottery player I ended up with him at number 18 the negative wingspan is a frustrating thing but he still block shots he rebounds he passes he shoots and he scores as a 7 foot big man the fit here is a little weird yeah it’s very easy to look at him as K in because it makes sense KY linck is’s not a huge wingspan guy but he can shoot he can pass he can block shots he can defend he can rebound Lin not there anymore and there’s still John Collins there’s Taylor Hendricks there’s Walker Kesler I I think there is a gigantic chance that in the future filipowski is a starting center ahead of Walker Kesler and him and Taylor Hendricks are the front Court of the future I think there’s a huge chance of that this is theft to me to get him a 32 I know there was all these weird stories about him being brainwashed by his older girlfriend who may or may not have groomed him and cut him off from his family I I don’t know all the details for that there’s a whisper joh well not whisper John gavone set it out that teams were avoiding him because they didn’t like the story with his girlfriend the Jazz maybe they don’t care as much about a player allegedly being brainwashed into being a Mormon I don’t know is there a correlation there maybe but from what filipowski did on the court unbelievably good value in terms of who else they sign babacar San from the G League ignite I had him at 84 he’s to an exhibit 10 yeah maybe he’s not good I he probably he probably isn’t to be honest Amando B exhibit 10 who wasn’t a pretty interesting Prospect sort of coming into this year but struggled and Max admas to a summer league deal as well so what does Utah get well because I didn’t like the Kobe Cody Williams pick as much it’s fine I did love ker and filipowski overall they just narrowly miss getting the two Jerry wests and they get one Jerry West really good draft love the colia love the filipowski not as high on Cody Williams but overall I think they did really well in their draft Hall and that is the end of the Northwest division you know what to do you leave your comments you double bang it you leave all that stuff down below and then we get into the next division which is going to be the Pacific Division coming later on today guys we are done here thank you so much for listening everyone see you [Music]

  1. Utah has the highest Mormon population in America, so i'm not surprised they took Flip. As a Raptors fan I was a little upset passing on him but I get it.
