I don’t get it. Why couldn’t the mavs match this?

  2. Nico would better have something cooked up if the difference was just 3 million.

  3. I need to hear the whole story because what the fuck

  4. We signed Naji. This should’ve been seen coming

  5. MavsAndThemBoyz

Damn we couldn’t pay an extra $3M to keep our boy???

  6. Surprised it was only one million more per year than Naji

  7. Simple_Wait_7286

Bruh we couldn’t give him that offer before signing Naji?

Something had to have happened internally over the past few days, that man really wanted to stay in Dallas.

  8. TZBlueIce

Huh. So we didn’t want to pay him more or he didn’t want to go to a bench role behind Klay?

I’m not going to jump to conclusions here because Nico was very upfront about getting him back. Maybe HE wanted to leave?

This moves the Clippers from shit to shit. So… yeah.

I don’t think this one is on us to be honest.

  10. yeah only explanation is DJJ just didnt want to be here…..no way it went from DJJ top priority to letting him for a few dollars extra

all due respect, DJJ was an awesome fit with us and his good performance was certainly a product of that. feels like it made sense for us to overpay him a bit but i don’t see this move being a huge needle mover for the Clippers, especially with Kawhi’s history of injuries likely forcing him to have more minutes than what’s ideal. and i’m really not trying to sound like a sore loser here.

wish DJJ the best, he was amazing with us.

Unfortunate, but at least we got his replacement in Naji Marshall. Would be interesting to hear what happened behind the scenes. Did DJJ choose LA over Dallas or did the Mavs choose Naji Marshall over him?

I love DJJ and what he did for us last year but glad to see him get the bag.

Not sure how I feel about this overall yet though. Marshall looks like a better shooter on paper, but I’ll admit, I haven’t really watched him that much to know if he’ll be a better POA defender.

DJJ mustve been lying because no way the Mavs werent willing to give him full MLE. Bro just wanted to live in LA.

I’m curious about what happened here. I really doubt it’s financial. Is it perhaps over his role? Maybe he didn’t wanna be a bench guy again. (assuming we get Klay)

I’m gonna miss him a lot ngl.

  15. Ambitious_Pin_4354

Man so many ppl in here saying we let him walk for 3mil less. Maybe just maybe he didn’t wanna come back cause his new agency told him to goto LA? Like come on everyone use your brains here we didn’t fumble this just most likely never had a chance.

  16. He either wanted LA or we didn’t want him at that price, and either way is totally okay.

  17. Got nothing but love for DJJ and his high flying heroics, but bro was completely useless in the finals. Dude honestly put a cap on our ceiling with his mid shooting. Btw I hope Clippers fans aren’t expecting any full court lobs from DJJ, I don’t think Kawhi can make that pass from a wheelchair.

This wasn’t Nico – it was all DJJ

  19. boosterronny

My guess is that he wanted to be a starter and we couldn’t promise him that. He had a great run but I’m not really bothered if we can get Klay.

  20. PM_ME_UR_RESPECT

Love ya Derrick but there are multiple reasons why this doesn’t make sense to me

  21. This whole thing has been so unexpected from the way he and Nico have talked in the media. He was an instant favorite of mine and will be missed.

  22. TheKyrieFan

He was the clear weak link in our team, without Luka he is still 0 on offense. We moveeeeeee

  23. sameolemeek

I’m glad we didn’t resign him. Career journey man who just happened to have his best year on a contract year. Clippers are his 7th team in 8 years

We saw the real DJJ in the finals

  24. UpbeatRaspberry9828

Could this be a money play? Saving a few million and not signing DJJ to offer more fore Klay? Seems like Dallas and Lakers are going to be bidding for Klay.

  25. Hugh_Jankles

DJJ has felt like that Mav in days past where you keep him way beyond his need for the team and is simply overpaid and wasted space on the bench.

The Mavs got what they needed out of him. Now they are moving on. Keep building and tinkering. There is no need to keep banging your head against the wall by keeping insignificant pieces for longer than needed.

I’m gonna miss those high flying alley oops from DJJ.
