Gary Trent Jr. GONE? – Very Concerning Free Agency Updates | Raptors News

this is a serious concern for the Toronto Raptors as the team essentially did nothing to start off a free agency and while we knew Messi Jerry wouldn’t be in a rush we already got the Scotty Barnes manual quickly extensions incoming but Gary Trent Jr is still not brought back and is an asset that could be walking for nothing and Bobby Webster had some concerning comments regarding Gary Trent Jr’s future and we missed out on a couple of key free agents that would have been really nice fits for the Toronto Raptors being a rebuilding Squad so we’re going to rec have day one of free agency what it really means for the Toronto Raptors and where we’re going to go from here because I still predict trades incoming in the coming weeks but the fact that torona Raptors were not in a rush weren’t able to close on any of these deals they missed out on some opportunities that would have been perfect to build forward this future but if you want to stay up to date with everything regarding this torona Raptors team make sure you guys hit that subscribe button if you’re a part of the 48% that haven’t hit the Subscribe button just yet make sure you do that so you stay up to date with everything regarding this team but let’s dive into the news because yesterday before we dive into specifically the Gary updates I was pretty sad because the one guy I was interested in inquiring in free agency was this guy jayen Smith I made a video on him yesterday the day before but free agent center Jaylen Smith has agreed to a threeyear $27 million contract with the Chicago Bulls sources tell ESPN Smith’s agents uh reach a deal with the bulls front office overnight so looking at this is something I am pretty cheesed about I am pretty fr frustrated because again Jaylen Smith fit all the boxes in terms of the type of free agent I wanted the torona Raptors to go after have an opportunity to bring in during the off season because first we can look at his stats what he’s able to do as a basketball player 10 points per game close to Six rebounds one assist per night shot 42% from behind the three-point line yes he’s not a crazy shock Creator in the sense that he’s you know off the dribble pullup threes but shoots 42% from the corners as well is only 24 years old the 610 shoots 59% from the field and is playing behind guys like Pascal cak Amobi toop and different players and putting up this level of stats this is a guy I was very intrigued by you know with the mid-level exception for the torona Raptors to bring in he’s exactly that Scotty barns RJ bar Emanuel quickly age and given that potential you know as a floor spacing three points shooter you know potentially could get some blocks per game if he was given more opportunities more run I looked at Jaylen Smith as a guy that would have been a perfect acquisition for the Toronto Raptors in this off seon and frankly based off the fact they were slow moving in the sense that uh you know they didn’t get a Bruce Brown deal done if it’s going to happen Bruce Brown is indicated he’s comfortable he’s happy coming back to the Toronto Raptors next season if these deals don’t go down but the fact that they didn’t make one of these moves over the past five days forces them to miss out on players like Jon Smith yonas valent Tunis is only making $10 million per year I know over loaded at the center position he’s not as much of a need as a Jaylen Smith but jayen Smith at $9 million over three seasons that’s a steal and the Raptors are in a much better position or a much more attractive destination than the Chicago Bulls who are going to be a ver I don’t know what the Bulls are doing right now so I I am frustrated that that’s the price Jaylen Smith went for and we just couldn’t jump into the sweep Stakes we couldn’t pick up on this guy because we still have our unfinished business yet to deal with here now so unfortunate misses fromer to sort of start off uh this offseason but basically we have more concerns to sort of look forward at now for this Raptor team based off the fact we didn’t make moves and that big one is regarding Gary Trent Jr who we have a couple of basically updates you know regarding that whole situation so dug Smith has come out from the Toronto Stars saying the Raptors are never going to be major players in the free agent Market uh as the festivities began on Sunday night they sat quietly on the sidelines content to wait and shop for the future seemingly content with a growing younger roster that they hope matures on its own Toronto did not make any Splash as we know or an attempt to resign Gary Trent Jr who can offer his skills to any Suitor now at this point and Doug Smith went on to say in this article essentially that Gary Trent Jr doesn’t really fit with this team so it makes sense the Raptors didn’t make a hard push to try and bring back AR to try and make these moves go down because frankly the torona Raptors can’t and this is why I’ve been of the mindset of the expectation that when we picked up Bruce Brown’s trade option that a trade would be imminent so we would not let the Gary Trent Jr asset Walk For Nothing in free agency cuz I mean Gary Trent Jr is a good basketball player and the Raptors are not in a position to let someone 14 points per game 2.6 rebounds 1.7 assists shooting 40% from the three-point line at 25 years old we are not in a position where we get to pick and choose where we get to say hey we can uh let assets we can let pieces walk for nothing and I keep bringing up this quote from Bobby Webster saying hey the torona Raptors are going to get better they’re going to be put in the right position because they are going to make the right decisions not one big swing as Doug Smith as we all knew coming we weren’t getting Paul George or one of these big names but the Toronto Raptors have to make 8 to 10 really good moves over the next two years to get back into that contention status and you know maybe not contention but mid- tier playoff where we want to be to take that jump you know to get to A step above where we’re currently at and letting Gary Trent Jr walk for nothing getting no assets for him back whatsoever and again a guy like that we let we got serious return for Jaylen McDaniels and the fact that we’re going to let Gary Trent Jr walk for nothing is a very very concern if it ends up being the case and the longer Bruce Brown’s on the roster means the more opportunities Gary has an unrestricted free agency to go to some different teams and stuff like that and the Raptors don’t have the mid level so the jayen Smiths of the world the Gary Trent jior of the world they become impossible for the Toronto Raptor sign the longer this happens the more we’re just going to be losing good pieces for absolutely nothing so that is a big big concern in my eyes that this is being dragged out this is being left on and Bobby Webster did speak out regarding the situation saying that you want to be strategic about what’s tradable what’s not tradable and we have some big contracts coming up for the future so it’ll just have to be something that makes sense for everyone so what this means to me what this indicates to myself the the subtext to this quote maybe I’m reading too much into it the Raptors have tried to trade Gary Trent Jr at the both the previous trade deadlines and they just haven’t been able to get the right return for a Gary Trent Jr package it’s just the reality of it for whatever reason despite the fact he’s a good three-point shooter has shown flash is a really good Defender can do other things out there on the basketball court the Raptors just feel like that they can’t trade Gary Trent J they feel like he’s not that valuable of a piece so that indicates to me especially with how this off season has played out that they’re just going to let Gary Trent Jr walk for nothing that appear alongside Doug Smith sort of reporting there I believe Gary Tren Jr is going to be gone I would happily be wrong I don’t want an asset to walk for nothing but I like Gary Tren Jr’s game I like him as uh you know fit into this team but again with jacobe Walter with grd dick with the oai baji those three guys seem like the shooting guards that the Raptors are locked in on the bench you know Devon Mitchell’s more the backup point guard I think he’s going to get some run as well as uh Jaylen shed so Jamal shed that’s uh that’s Jay too many jayen in this video and forly on this team but I just expect Gary Tren J to be gone right now with how free agenc has played out out and it sucks and essentially the subtext there too they indicate that uh Bruce Brown is a guy the Raptors would be able to trade at 11 points per game a little bit older is more proven as a role player on a competitive team and obviously is an expiring contract and we just saw what the jayen McDaniels expiring contract was able to provide you know out there in the open market we got two solid second round picks and two solid NBA contributors but the Raptors there’s no world we entering you know the the soft cap much less the hard cap with the current state of where this team is in but with Bruce Brown on the roster and again if Bruce Brown’s brought back I’m not going to be yelling or frustrated or whatever but the Raptors are handcuffed with this Bruce Brown contract picked up maybe they’re looking for the trade deadline to really make some moves happen but we’ll see we’ll see in the coming weeks if this steelend up going down and the Messiah acting fast there are still a ton of free agents out there left on the board little minor moves that the Tron Raptors can make to retool to readjust this roster but let me know what you guys think about this in the comment section down below how are you feeling about the torona Raptors really standing path to open up free agency let me know but folks you guys the best F far subscribe to the channel I’m signing out cheers

  1. I honestly don't want any free agent signings. We have a lot of new players. Let's see who can actually play this year while at the same time maintaining some cap space to strike at the right time if need be. I don't think Gary has any value for a sign and trade. Best to just let him walk. Everything is fine in my opinion.

  2. Poor treatment of Pascal, and he certainly was honest about it. This kind of news does travel. The team is in desparate need of improved players, but seems mediocrity will continue to be the status quo again this year.

  3. What's new??? Nothing. Raptors rumors as always, all hype no glory. Same ol' same ol'. I've lost all confidence in Raptors head office. They aren't even in the stratosphere of being a treat in the nextv5 years the way they are constructed. Just as the former Golden State Warriers GM said "Toronto lacks talent".

  4. Fine with GTJ moving on honestly. I think we should go for a high draft pick next season then start looking at trades with the future first rounders. Another tank may be the right move. Give IQ and Scottie a year to grow and develop some chemistry. I don't see RJ being a long term fit unless his salary goes down. Gradey could be a good piece. Keep Poeltl unless we can find a stretch big somewhere.

  5. If you wanted a 4/5 Smith was likely in our $ same if you wanted “true SF” Naji Marshall but I can understand going to Dallas small move no state taxes and contender.
Dude we should have fix the Sasha V issue to get more cap money. I believed GTJ would be gone if we did not have more than MLE since he could go to more teams at that $ amount.

  6. Jalen 9 per!!! man, that hurts. He is a hustler, up and down the court with good size.
Maybe they're focusing on Bey, knowing he will be ready for '25-26.
I rather Melton over GTJ – he's a better ball handler, better at defense, hustler, "nose to the ball" type – but I agree, GTJ over nothing is a win. He can shoot, which fits this system, and maybe, just maybe, they line up a trade up for him by this time next season. Truth is, JKW will be playing mostly in the G-league next season.

  7. this is not a serious concern – we all know we're in a rebuild – we're not paying any players, we're not signing free agents – we're trying to grow our own talent just like OKC, spurs and miami does. We're looking to be bad and get a good pick in a strong draft class – why grab a big player so we can be mid for years to come?

  8. BB is going to bring back nothing – it will be two dud contracts of underwhelming players and two high 2nd round picks. If they are lucky, a late 1st. Maybe MU cooks and gets a better package, but teams know the Raps are hand-cuffed, and will be further hand-cuffed as the season goes along (unless BB plays out of his head as a Raptor this season, and teams have no choice but to pay the price at the deadline). Right now the Raps have zero options at the back up SF position, so no rush on him, unless they have a guy they really like and want to sign as a FA and need the monies – but that doesn't look to be the case so far. Is that guy from the KIngs trade staying or not?

  9. About 25 teams did little or nothing in free agency. Bulls, Clippers, GSW even Knicks in cap hell right now. Raps have tons of flexibility, the best asset with this new CBA.

  10. Brutal… raps as it stands are terrible. We need to make moves… dumping mcdaniels for usable pieces was good tho

  11. Your crying over nothing, Gary Trent jr. has always been inconsistent, streaky and one-dimensional, and doesn’t provide anything other than shooting, while we have multiple guards including Ja’Kobe to replace him, also we tried trading him, cuz he has no value, so stop with these reactionary videos to attract a negative audience

  12. Who knows what Jalen Smith wants? He may choose to go to Chicago rather than Toronto. You never know. If players choose where’s there is more money, we will not lose Chris Bosh.

  13. I don't find in concerning what so ever! Trent is a one trick pony and most GMs can see that. Homer Raptors fans need to chill lol

  14. Maybe, all things being equal, there are still players that don't want to play for a Canadian team? Anyway, nothing to lose sleep over in my opinion and I think the headline was being over dramatic.

  15. Another lackluster week. Draft was only so so. FA so far, we are too slow and lethargic, as usual. Wheres the sense of urgency?? I hate to say this, but tim to remove the entire front office incl Massai. The Massai and Webster era needs to be over. Now! I dint say that lightly and seriously thank them for their yrs of service and the chip. But its over now. Smith and Valanciunas should be Raptors. Too many missed opportuinities, all underscored by tragic Siakam trade.

  16. Stop saying they missed on opportunity to bring certain payers to the team. U know it’s the players choice where they want to go and they obviously not choosing raptors.

  17. Ben you can’t just say we should’ve signed someone. 😂. The player had to want to play in Toronto. A lot of them won’t even talk with T.O let alone take a cheap deal. Masai might e offered these guys more money and they said no. We don’t know what we don’t know

  18. Ben you can’t just say we should’ve signed someone. 😂. The player had to want to play in Toronto. A lot of them won’t even talk with T.O let alone take a cheap deal. Masai might e offered these guys more money and they said no. We don’t know what we don’t know.
The thing to get really upset about it that Masai KEEPS letting assests walk for nothing. That does piss me off. I’m with you there

  19. Nobody wants to trade with the Raps because they will always come up losing. Lol
    I get it.
    We building through the drafts

  20. ITS A DEVELOPMENT YEAR..EVERYONE CHILL..with 2 first rd picks, and Chicago's 2nd, raptors are poised to bring in potential stars off a deep draft.. you think we did well this year in the draft, imagine the next year.. NOT signing players is a very good thing.. we get to develop our youth and stay low in the standings. Which means a high lottery pick. See the big picture everyone.. let's enjoy the process! Cheers and Go Rap Go!!!

  21. Well looks like i was dead on per usual the front office and coach and even ben admitted that we are going to suck a big fat one next season with scottie as our "leader" …when are we going to stop using the he is only blah blah blah years old excuse??

  22. Why would you want Gary Trent Jr. when you are trying to lose? This team needs a lot of talent and it is unlikely the draft picks are going to do anything to change it. The problem is roster construction, too many small guards on the team. You can't win in the NBA with this type of roster.
